Health Beat, YOUR Health Habit zone for all things Health and wellness. In this episode Host Brian Hazelgren shares some stories that are inspiring and teaches us the importance of not giving up. Here is one of the stories he shares, The first one is called Shark Bait. Shark Bait is the name of this first story. And it was during a research experiment that our marine biologists placed a shark into a large holding tank, and then release several small bait fish into the tank. As you probably would expect, the shark quickly swam around the tank attacked and ate over the smaller fish. The marine biologist inserted a strong piece of clear fiberglass into the take and it also created two separate partitions in the tank. She then put the shark on one side of the fiberglass the clear fiberglass and a new set of baitfish on the other again the shark quickly attacked only this time the shark slammed into the fiberglass divider and bounced off of it. Undeterred, the shark kept repeating this behavior every few minutes, but to no avail. Meanwhile, the bait fish, they just swim around unharmed in the other side of the partition. And eventually about an hour into the experiment the shark finally gave up, tired of slamming against its nose against the invisible barrier. Now this experiment was repeated several dozen times over the next few weeks. Each time the shark got less and less aggressive and made fewer attempts to attack the bait fish until the shark finally got tired of hitting the fiberglass divider and simply stopped attacking all together. The marine biologist then removed this fiberglass divider after a few weeks, but guess what? The shark did not attack. The shark was trained to believe that a barrier existed between it and the bait fish. So the bait fish swam wherever they wished they were completely free from harm. So what's the moral of the story? Many of us after we have experienced setbacks and failures, we give up emotionally and we stop trying. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

There is no question that YouTube and Instagram are two of the most popular programs today, especially for teens. YouTube has launched careers (think Justin Bieber and contestants on The Voice) and created online celebrities who have gone one to create companies based on their videos. If you own an ipad, iphone, ipod touch, or any smart phone, Instagram is a fast, beautiful, easy and FREE way to share your pictures and life with your friends and family. You can take a picture or video, post to Instagram, and then share to Facebook, Twitter, Tumbler, and more! And with 150 million monthly users, it's a whole new way to see the world! Hosts Youngjoo Ahn and Asya Gonzalez talk about their favorite people, channels, topics, mentors, and influences. Techie Talks reporter Caiseen Kelley explains how ordinary folks become YouTube stars and how they monetize their concepts as YouTube partners. Health Beat reporter, Nicole Eubanks likes the health, fitness, and beauty channels in her quest to live a healthier lifestyle and recommends helpful videos. Youngjoo likes to blog and shoot photos but she doesn't make her own videos yet. Artistic Asya is in the process of developing a unique teen advice column and welcomes an Instagram following at CityRouge. All agree that both YouTube and Instagram are mainstays in their every day life as their source of information, entertainment, advice, and fun insights. It's time to get healthy, get in shape, and our teen reporters don't disappoint. At a time when about 12.5 million American kids are dealing with obesity, and schools' physical education programs are being eliminated, the Center for Disease Control released findings that less than 25% of America's youth ages 12-15 are getting even 30 minutes of exercise a day. Hosts Katelyn Darrow and Youngjoo Ahn gets us ready for balanced eating and exercising regimes. Katelyn, who is an advocate of volunteerism, discovered a fantastic app called Charity Miles that helps you stay on task while earning money for specific charities. New health and fitness reporter, Henna Hendal encourages everyone to find an activity that is enjoyable and stick with it…dancing, skating, jogging…anything that gets you moving. Rachel Glass is getting toned and healthy with her pescatarian diet and regular exercise. Health Beat reporter, Nicole Eubanks doesn't eat cafeteria food and warns about the high amounts of fat, sugar, and oils in pre-packaged and fast food meals. It's a new year and health is wealth. Get up, get out, and be healthy.

The parents of teens today didn't grow up with cell phones, and although we seem to not be able to live without them, there are risks involved. Hosts for today's program are Rachel Glass and Katelyn Darrow who interview others with differing opinions. The Health Beat reporter in Florida, Nicole Eubanks provides startling statistics: each month, girls send on average 4050 texts and boys send 2539! Car accidents have risen and radiation from cell phones can cause brain tumors, sleep disorders, and more. Katelyn shares the upsides of the smart phone apps that can help others through volunteering in her Gift of Giving segment. Youngjoo Ahn talks about apps that boost creativity to help people write, draw, photograph, and play. She says she can't live without them. Social Networking reporter, Alex Lee loves his IPHONE 5 but cautions listeners that although it can do many things, it is still a phone, meant to be used for interaction with other humans, and not through Facetime.

Express Yourself's theme today is a nod to that wonderful woman who gave us life, hosted by Youngjoo Ahn and Katelyn Darrow. Our Economics Tune Up reporter, Alex Pawlakos will give an economic look at how American's show their appreciation to their moms on this Mother's Day by spending more than $84 million. Health Beat reporter, Nicole Eubanks brings us low key, fun, and healthy ways to show our love. Youngjoo celebrates the homemade gift idea for those personal touches, especially on a budget. Katelyn's mom plays the part of both mom and dad in the household, so Katelyn and her sisters serve up unusual and abundant treats not only to their mom, but to abused women in a shelter. To round out the show, we have a special audition with our youngest new reporter, Isaiah Rankin who brings us into the wild with his segment, Nature Calls. An old proverb says, “God could not be everywhere and therefore he made mothers.” Amen! Mothers deserve a special day every day!
