A Little Wray Of Sunshine: Inspirational stories from everyday people
In this short episode, I made a surprise call to my 97 year old mother-in-law to see if she would talk about her Christmas memories growing up, along with some of her other life experiences. She gives good advice about knowing what is important in life, and taking care of each other, along with the wisdom that can only come from living a good, long life.

Helen Jones: Light Language. Energy. Channelling. Healing. The Mind. BEMASS. Helen Jones is an amazing healer and channel from the midlands in the UK. Like Kat in the previous episode, her story involves both loss and chronic illness which led to the opening of her gifts. Her journey was very difficult at times, and she readily admits it has taken her some time to build her confidence and accept the abilities she has. A key expression of Helen's energy is through light language. And as you will hear in this episode, it activated in her in multiple ways, including through song and scribbles. She uses this beautiful vocal frequency in her work as a healer and is able to call it in effortlessly as she does so. Helen shares some of her light language during this episode, which gets an interesting response from Liane, our host. Helen truly lives life in flow, accessing the direction of her guides through her open channel at will. This enables her to call in any specific messages and information simply by connecting, meaning her wisdom and knowledge is readily available at the exact point she needs it. https://www.dcpofficial.com/johnhorton John Horton died at the age of 22 on March 30th 2009, while in a solitary confinement cell in Los Angeles' Men's Central Jail. There were conflicting autopsy reports, but ultimately John's mother, Helen Jones, was able to learn about the extensive trauma John suffered leading up to his death. LA county originally listed John's death as suicide, but the Jones family believes this was staged to help move attention away from the potential that John was killed by a Los Angeles Sherriff Department gang known as the 3000 Boys. CALL TO ACTION Helen Jones would like you to use whatever means possible to amplify… “John Horton who was murdered, beat to death on March 30th 2009 in Men's Central Jail by ten 3000 Boys' deputy Sheriff gang members that viciously run the 3rd floor of Men's Central County Jail. 12 years later and still no justice for John.” “Jalani Lovett who was also beaten to death and murdered by the 3000 Boys deputy sheriff gang on September 22nd 2021. And the 3000 Boys gang tried to stage Jalani Lovett's death.” “WE MUST STOP THE SHERIFF'S GANGS FROM COMMITING GENOCIDE ON OUR CHILDREN NOW. THE GANGS BEEN KILLING BLACK AND BROWN FOLKS SINCE THE 1970'S FOR GANG INITIATION.” - Helen Jones “The los Angeles Sheriff Department has 18 known vicious deputy gangs that are commiting genocide on black and brown men and women.” Contact your local officials to demand that they ban Qualified Immunity Credits Special thanks to Host: Adell Coleman & Chris Colbert Executive Producers: Adell Coleman & Chris Colbert Edited & Sound Design: Byron Hunt Producers: Heather Johnson, Ryan Woodhall and Mike DuBose Associate Producers: Quinton Hill Content Distribution: DCP Entertainment Learn more about your ad choices. On this episode of ScaleUp Radio we, once again, bring you a compilation of some great business advice that we've heard throughout 2021. There's no getting away from the fact that it's been another challenging year for so many, and we've heard some great insights and advice along the way that have helped many of us, and will continue to help us as we face the new year. We've been lucky enough to have a real range of conversations in the past year - from accountants, lawyers, marketers and IT support right through to restaurant owners, franchisees, funeral directors and gin makers. With all of this diversity it's been really interesting to see how much common ground there is. At the end of the day the key challenges to building and scaling up a business are not unique to any particular industry or sector. Sure, there are differences, but the key things remain the same. All of our guests have provided some great lessons that they have learned along the way, that can be of real benefit to all of us. No matter the size of your business - large or small - make sure that you celebrate the wins that you have achieved this year. Small and medium businesses are the backbone of any successful economy and you don't need me to tell you that it can be hard at times. But hold onto the reasons that you started out in the first place. You set out to achieve something, and we have all achieved something special; something to be proud of. Hold onto that star that guides you and drives and work out how you are going to get that little bit closer to it next year. The links to all of the episodes that these pieces of advice are from are below, so you can spend time getting to know each business owner better. This is the last episode of ScaleUp Radio for this year. I want to thank you for your continued support for ScaleUp Radio. We are now being listened to in 59 countries across the globe, with more of you listening and downloading now than ever before. We'll be back with a new episode on Monday, 10th January. In the meantime, enjoy this excerpts of advice from our episodes in 2021.

On this episode of ScaleUp Radio, Kevin speaks to Helen Jones from Collaboris. Collaboris was formed in 2007 as a slightly different company, which took a rather winding path to get to the present day, where it is an information technology and services company that works within Microsoft’s SharePoint program - which you may well have used in your own company, or interacted with at an event. As always, there is an awful lot of ground covered in this conversation, including the challenges and lessons learned as part of their scale up journey and whether or not they would do anything differently. We also discussed: - The process of deciding when is the right time to ‘give up’ on something? Whether it’s an aspect of your business, a branch of growth within your company or even a member of staff. - How to adapt to something like the pandemic, when many of your customers moved to working from home - Having to change your advertising and marketing online to keep up with the different algorithms on different platforms - Making sure that the different members of staff have different skill sets, which compliment one another - and benefit the business as a whole. Helen is incredibly knowledgable about her area, and clearly has a real passion about the industry - she really was very enjoyable to spend some time with. I hope that you enjoy it too. We recently ran a story about a new report that highlighted the fact that poorly implemented ePMA (electronic prescribing and medicines administration) systems can result in potentially fatal medication errors. We were very fortunate to catch up with Scott Hislop and Helen Jones, two of the investigators, on the podcast to discuss the series of events that ultimately culminated in the sad passing of Mrs Ann Midson. The report comes after the Healthcare Safety Investigation Branch (HSIB) looked at the case of 75-year old Ann Midson, who was left taking two powerful blood-thinning medications after a mix-up at her local hospital where she was receiving treatment whilst suffering from incurable cancer. Ann sadly died 18 days after being discharged and the error with her medication was only picked up three days before. This led to the HSIB investigation to question why this happened, even when the hospital had an ePMA system in place. The report highlights that many NHS trusts across England are taking up this technology as they reduce medication errors, but that incomplete use of e-systems could create further risks to patient safety. The investigation found that often all the functions of ePMA systems aren’t being used and that staff switch between using paper record and digital records, increasing the likelihood of crucial information being missed. Ann’s case also highlighted the routine lack of information sharing between NHS services, such as GP surgeries and pharmacies. She had been taking one blood-thinning medication on admission. This was stopped during her time at the hospital, but this message was not relayed to her local pharmacy and she continued to take both after leaving hospital. The report also identifies that the availability of a seven-day hospital pharmacy service is crucial to support a digital system and pick up any errors quickly. The length of time it took in Ann’s case had a huge effect on both her and her family. Ann’s daughter said: “Not only were we grieving the loss of mum but also that she had to deal with the stress and upset of this towards the end of her life. She had to spend a lot of time within different parts of the NHS and all we ever wanted was for her to get the best possible care at every stage.

Helen Jones : Vocalist / Music Teacher FavourEconomy is a collection of audio recordings shared by women who work in the arts. The project operates as a platform for contributors to share their experience, insights and skills by recording an audio file and sharing it to the archive. The archive comprises of a series of volumes that develop over a one-year period coinciding with the financial year. The recordings shared to FavourEconomy have been termed ‘favours’ because they have been produced with the intention of being of benefit for other women to hear. Furthermore, the word ‘favour’ encapsulates a social gesture of ‘sharing something’ without defining exactly what that something might be. FavourEconomy operates as an audio gift economy, whereby each contributor has determined the content and value of their recording set in accordance with their own experience and is received by the listener according to their current situation and need. The audio favours concurrently act to gives value and power to the female voice, which is too often silenced. Diverse perspectives make FavourEconomy more valuable through their ability to highlight the breadth as well as the commonalities of the female experience. The project is inclusive of audio favours shared by those at various stages of their career and who occupy a variety of creative and professional arts roles. This is because the boundaries of contemporary art forms and careers can often be fused, blurred or multifaceted. Furthermore, arts practitioners frequently express themselves in multiple roles and creative disciplines. FavourEconomy is also inclusive of recordings shared by non-gender binary people to allow a spectrum of perspectives to be voiced. For so many women the path to ‘success’ is hazardous with a multiplicity of journeys simultaneously being navigated. Subsequently the female voice often vanishes from public discourse before being heard. To enable a platform for this to occur FavourEconomy is intentionally non-selective and embraces all audio favours shared from a female perspective of working in the arts - beyond only those 'at the top’ of their arts profession. The central aims of FavourEconomy are to promote a culture of supportive communication and information sharing amongst women, to foster relationships that are generative rather than competitive and counteract a system where women are often pitched against each other for finite slices of power and position. FavourEconomy is investigating at a time when we have the greatest numbers of women working in the arts, why there still is not commensurate representation in leadership positions, exhibitions, publications and collections. While there are many systemic issues to be addressed there is one specific area that can be combated by the FavourEconomy. We aim to actively support a culture whereby women help out other women in order to strengthen the female voice, knowledge, presence and power in the arts. We posit that our efforts and insights can benefit others and that the more that we share with and support one another the easier it will be for women to impact upon the circuit of contemporary art production and dissemination. Currently FavourEconomy volumes are accessible online to a digital public and for exhibition as a compendium of sound, installation and text based artwork. Moving forward FavourEconomy aims to furtther explore ways in which the archive records alternative histories; provides a platform for intersectional perspectives to be voiced; operates as an alternative economy; interrogates the notion of gatekeepers, prizes and exclusive exhibitions; challenges notions of success; empower the female voice and strengthens relationships.

In the wake of Liverpool's 5-1 demolition of Arsenal (no, I will never get tired of saying that), the Three Bad Wools reconvene one Wool light as scheduling conflicts meant Matt was unavailable. Fear not however, as we're delighted to welcome Helen Jones as our first ever guest on the show. We talk Arsenal, Gerrard, the front three, transfers and games to come. And Helen makes an unfortunate lookalike comparison for Countinho.
