We're dropping this episode a bit before March—a dreamtime month for many THR readers and podcast listeners. March is on the cusp here in the Northern Hemisphere of longer days. All that translates into more time to move through the mountains—often with warmer temps and more stable avalanche conditions. This episode is handy if you need a little push to get the wheels turning, dream, be inspired, or push yourself out of your comfort zone.Let's get to it.On the Emergence Episode, we chat with Sam Hennessey, Michael Gardner, and Adam Fabrikant. We'll provide links below if you are unfamiliar with any of these three folks. If you follow the podcast, Adam has been on before. And yes, he still shines. For Sam and Mike, this is a first.Emergence. The podcast's title, which we vacillated on, is spot on. According to the Wiki, "emergence occurs when a complex entity has properties or behaviors that its parts do not have on their own, and emerge only when they interact in a wider whole."In this instance, the wider whole can be the group construct: three experienced individuals bringing their strengths and weaknesses to an endeavor and exceeding, in a unique way, the attributes of any individual. The wider whole also includes a vast physical landscape full of possibilities, including technical and endurance challenges, pitfalls that include high-gravity situations, and the potential for interpersonal conflict. We mostly focus on an excellent 2021 adventure by Hennessey, Gardner, and Fabrikant. Here are the basics of their mega-push: a climb of Denali's Cassin Ridge, a first ski descent of the mountain's Northwest Buttress, and an exit on foot across the tundra to Wonder Lake. Beyond the slog across Denali National Park's lowlands, this episode also features some fine ski alpinism done in good style. The good style we speak of also translates to the group at large. What makes these three individuals compelling is not simply their questing in the mountains but the real sense that Hennessey, Gardner, and Fabrikant care deeply about one another. That, folks, is a huge ingredient for any successful endeavor, which also gifts smiles and laughter.Let's set the ski alpinism scene. In 2019, Hennessey and Gardner climbed the Infinite Spur on Sultana (Mount Foraker) in ski boots with skis secured to their packs on a 48-hour trip. Yes, they descended on skis. The first ascent, a storied one at that, was completed by Michael Kennedy and George Lowe back in 1977 over 11 days. Then, in 2021, Hennessey and Gardner climbed a new route on the Isis Face of Denali's South Buttress in their impeccable ski alpinism style. Climb in ski boots with skis along for the ride and ski as much of the descent as possible, ultimately bringing them to the Kahiltna Glacier, the main jumping-off point for the main Denali ascent route. The two took a few rest days, then climbed a highly technical route on the North Buttress of Begguya (Mount Hunter) to the summit—this time sans skis and ski boots. As rest and recovery, Hennessey and Gardner guided the West Buttress route on Denali, as did Fabrikant. From there, the plan to climb the Cassin as a trio and make a first ski descent down the mountain's Northwest Buttress was hatched. After their respective guiding obligations, Hennessey, Gardner, and Fabrikant climbed the Cassin, skied the Northwest Buttress down to tundra, and walked out to Wonder Lake, where they snagged a bus ride back to Talkeetna. Resources—Mike Gardner wrote an excellent summary of their season, which listeners/readers can find here.—Hennesey's piece in the American Alpine Journal titled "Ski Seasons: Modern Ski Alpinism in the Alaska Range" is here.—To learn more about Hennessey and Gardner's fast and light ethos in technical ground, here is a collection of stories/podcasts on their speedy ascent, along with Rob Smith, up Denali's Slovak Direct.Slovak Direct PodcastFast times on Slovak DirectSingle Push on Denali's Slovak Direct—this podcast features Matt Cornell, Steve House, and Rob Smith (not Hennessey or Gardner). It is an excellent discussion of the history of the route and the evolving strategies used to ascend the line. Thanks for listening. Find us at the-high-route.com. Yeah, there are two hyphens for redundancy, which is a good policy in the mountains. For weight weenies, hyphens weigh next to nothing. We are a reader supported website with free podcasts. The theme music for The High Route Podcast comes from Storms in the Hill Country and the album The Self Transforming (Thank you, Jens Langsjoen). Tristia Hennessey is an award-winning eLearning developer from the Pacific Northwest and has a passion for immersive learning, VR, and AR. And interestingly enough, that love for immersive learning stems from her love of travel; she studied abroad for a number of years and learned first hand the power of immersion as a learning experience. So check out Tristia's journey: she went from being an admin assistant at an insurance company to finding instructional design, then taking all of her previous experience and creating a career that finds her winning awards for her designs, and now, building and hosting a community called XR in LXD. It's always amazing to hear how Instructional Designers have evolved themselves into careers they enjoy, and Tristia's story is a great example of that.

Subscribe to The Locher Room: https://bit.ly/TheLocherRoomEmmy Award-winning actress, author and animal advocate Carolyn Hennesy joined me in The Locher Room to reminisce about her incredible career dazzling audiences with her various daytime, primetime and film roles. On television, she played the deliciously vicious “Penelope Ellis” on ABC's critically acclaimed series Revenge. She also joined the cast for the fifth season of the sleek vampires-meet-world saga, True Blood, and fast became a fan favorite as Rosalyn, the ageless vamp with a Texas twang. Prior to Revenge and True Blood, Hennesy was best known for her memorable work as “Barb” on ABC's Cougar Town and for her (twice) Emmy nominated work as “Diane Miller” on ABC's General Hospital. She has also guest starred on a long list of prime time favorites including Champions, NCIS, The Cool Kids, The Mindy Project, MOM, and Liza on Demand. Kids across America know her as the hilariously haughty Mrs. Chesterfield on Disney Channel's Jessie. On the big screen, Hennesy's credits include Click, Legally Blonde 2, Terminator 3 as well as starring in the horror film, St. Agatha (directed by SAW's Darren Bousman,) the recently released comedy Swing of Things and the soon to be released Relentless for Lifetime…but the biggest recent large screen news is her role in J.J. Abrams Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker as fighter pilot Demine Lithe. Online, she's starred in the independent series' Take it from the Top and These People, Business Doing Pleasure for TBS, Two Sentence Horror Stories for Time/Warner, and The Bay for Amazon Prime in the role of Karen Blackwell...for which she received her Emmy Award and the 2016 Indie Series Award. Most recently, she starred as Gloria in Sean Kanen's series, Studio City for which she received Emmy nominations two consecutive years. Hennesy received her training at the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. Her razor sharp comedic timing was honed as a member of The Groundling's Sunday Company and in ACME Theatre's main company. Hennesy has appeared in over a hundred stage productions worldwide, most recently and to great acclaim as Maria Callas in Terrence McNally's Master Class at the Garry Marshall Theatre for which she received the LA Stage Alliance Ovation Award for “Best Actress In A Play” for the entirety of Los Angeles, 2017-18. Among other accolades, the LA Drama Critics Circle has distinguished her with the Natalie Schafer Award and the LA Stage Alliance honored her with her first Ovation for THE FAN MAROO. For the last three years, Hennesy hosted the red carpet reception for the Daytime Emmy Awards for NATAS, FB, and nearly all social media platforms. Hennesy's creative endeavors also include a successful career as a writer; she created the wildly popular “Pandora” (Bloomsbury USA) children's book series and penned the New York Times Bestseller “The Secret Life of Damian Spinelli” (Hyperion). When not on set, Hennesy is privileged to lend her time to a number of causes but she focuses on veteran affairs and particularly animal rescue, preservation, conservation and advocacy as an ambassador for American Humane and her own Los Angeles Zoo. She hosts her advocacy podcast “Animal Magnetism” back episodes of which may be found on YouTube. On January 2nd. 2017, Hennesy crossed something off of her bucket list: she rode on a float (Lucy Pet Foundation) in the Tournament of Roses Parade. Now she simply has to go into space (difficult) and fly over Disneyland as Tinkerbell to set off the fireworks (impossible). She lives in her native Los Angeles with four dogs and one cat, rescues all, and…in what spare time is left…she flies trapeze. Seriously!Original Airdate: 8/18/2021

Convo with Kyle: The Church is honoring a few especially well-known saints this week, and on this episode, Bishop talks about the lives of Saint Dominic (feast day: August 8), Saint Lawrence (Feast Day: August 10), and Saint Clare (Feast day: 11). Then it’s on to the Gospel reading for today which tells the story of a Canaanite woman pleading with Jesus to heal her daughter. Bishop reflects upon the woman’s humility and great faith. Listener Questions: - 28:53 - I thoroughly enjoy listening about the history of the Catholic Church in the United States, I would like to know if there are any books available that contain the history, as Bishop explained on the July 4 episode that I could buy or read? - 31:07 - A Protestant friend insisted recently that Jesus said a marriage was dissolved when one of the partners committed adultery, my research took me to the King James Bible, Matthew 19, and in order to find such a passage, however, the New American Bible doesn't say this. Instead, it says "unless the marriage is unlawful...", could you please explain this? - 34:37 - What is the purpose of a Spiritual Director? Should Everyone have one? - 36:55 - If I have a rosary that has not yet been blessed, are my prayers as efficacious if it prayed with the same devotion using a blessed rosary? 38:37 - What process is Mother Angelica in for Sainthood? Do you think that she will be able to become a Saint someday? Are there any known miracles associated with her? - 39:34 - Is it consistent with Catholic teaching to believe that life exists on other planets? and that aliens have visited ours? - 41:51 - Do you have any fears or phobias? ------ RESOURCES: - July 4 episode of Truth in Charity (https://soundcloud.com/askbishop/2018-july-4) - American Catholics: A History of the Roman Catholic Community in the United States, by James J. When you're in the wedding industry, you often have the benefit of seeing other vendor categories up close. If you've ever considered making a switch from one field to another, this week's episode of the This Week In Weddings podcast is for you. We're chatting with Larissa and Chavvon Smith, who made the switch from being wedding photographers to owning a letterpress and luxury printing company. This week's episode is a must listen for all the serial entrepreneurs out there, and is full of great advice for anyone with an entrepreneurial spirit. About our guests: Larissa and Chavvon Smith are the owners of Cotton Paperie, a Dallas based letterpress and luxury printer. They print items ranging from business cards that help businesses create powerful first impressions to luxury wedding invitations. In addition to working with some of the most amazing brides & wedding planners in the industry, their clients include Google, the Dallas Cowboys, eBay, Cotton Inc., Hennesey, the George W. Bush Foundation, and Fortuny. Before founding Cotton Paperie, Chavvon and Larissa were event photographers covering events nationwide. Specializing in wedding photography they worked as a husband and wife team. Event photography and the busy weekend schedule was becoming a strain to balance that business and 3 small children so Chavvon took the leap and purchased a letterpress and put it in the garage. Having no print experience whatsoever he found the manual for his vintage press on eBay, bought it, studied it, and learned to operate his first press. Larissa having a background in Interior Design naturally gravitated towards the graphics design aspects of letterpress printing. It was a perfect fit. Through much trial and error and the help of their photography friends network, Cotton Paperie was born! In this episode, listeners will hear about: Chavvon and Larissa's transition into the wedding industry Why Chavvon and Larissa decided working weddings on the weekends didn't work for them anymore How they got into the printing industry Best tips for someone wanting to move into a new industry The group of people that Chavvon and Larissa credits for helping them start and test their business concept Want to connect with Chavvon & Larissa? Enjoy! Do you remember Jackie Cooper? He was the child star in the "Our Gang" Comedies, acted with Wallace Beery in "The Champ", and years later as an adult had comedic roles on TV in "People's Choice" and "Hennesey". On this edition of Galaxy Moonbeam Night Site, Ian Rose recalls the career of Jackie Cooper. Not only as an actor but also as producer and director.
