I take a critical look at the growing popularity of infographics and one-pagers in education. While I acknowledge their aesthetic appeal and potential as conversation starters, as exemplified by the brilliant work of Jamie Clark and the WalkThrus guides, I argue that an overreliance on these simplified visual guides may be holding educators back from deeper understanding and effective implementation. I believe we need to think critically about how we use these tools to ensure they don't become a substitute for nuanced discussions and context-specific adaptations. Key takeawaysThe Nuance Problem: Infographics, by nature, can't capture the full complexity and nuance of educational ideas and practices, potentially leading to oversimplification and misunderstanding.Context Matters: Educators must adapt and contextualize infographics to their unique school settings, considering cultural, social, and institutional factors that can't be represented in a one-size-fits-all visual. The Implementation Gap: Infographics alone can't bridge the gap between theory and practice. Effective professional development requires a range of mechanisms beyond just attractive visuals.Thinking Critically: To avoid "lethal mutations" of educational ideas, educators must approach infographics with a critical eye, using them as departure points for deeper discussion and understanding rather than as comprehensive solutions. Throughout the episode, I provide practical tips for using infographics effectively in professional development, such as fostering critical discussions, adapting to school context, planning for implementation challenges, and integrating reflective practice. Whether you're a fan of infographics or sceptical of their value, this episode will challenge you to rethink the role of simplified visual guides in education and offer strategies for going beyond the surface level to achieve meaningful change in your school. Dr. José Medina discusses linguistic oppression in education and the need for linguistic liberation. He explains that linguistic oppression occurs when students are not allowed to fully leverage their entire linguistic repertoire, and are instead forced to focus solely on the language of power, which is often English. José emphasises the importance of metalinguistic awareness, which is the ability to make connections between languages in one's repertoire. He also introduces the concept of trans-languaging, which empowers students to use all of their language skills to access content learning. José calls for educators to create linguistically inclusive spaces and to model content language learning targets that incorporate the four plus one language domains.TakeawaysLinguistic oppression occurs when students are not allowed to fully leverage their entire linguistic repertoire.Metalinguistic awareness is the ability to make connections between languages in one's repertoire.Trans-languaging empowers students to use all of their language skills to access content learning.Educators should create linguistically inclusive spaces and model content language learning targets that incorporate the 4+1 language domains.LinksLanguage Magazine Article on ‘Content, Language, & Culture Learning Targets'José on X, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok & YouTubeJosé's website: drjosemedina.comThank you for tuning in, and as always, if you found this episode useful, please share your experience. Tania is a herbalist, health & wealth coach, author & activist, leading people all over the world to take ownership of their health through natural remedies and turning their passion for the natural world into a 6-figure online business, creating more freedom, fulfilment and financial abundance. In this episode, Tania tells her story of how her journey into the world of natural health and herbalism began. By watching her mother on her deathbed who very nearly did succumb to big pharma corruption, caused Tania to hit rock bottom and go on a mission to find her a solution which guided her to the natural world of healing which in turn helped her mum heal naturally. This experience made Tania realise that this was part of her purpose in life and so she started to study herbalism. She later discovered her passion was also to empower people and help other healers build online wellness businesses, helping them turn their passions into profits so they are less dependent on the corporate world. Tania and Philly also discuss the corruption in the allopathic medical industry and why natural medicine became outlawed in the 1900's, they cover the events that unfolded in 2020, the Canadian truckers in Otawa, glyphosates sprayed on our food, the harmful effects of food dyes and seeds oils amongst other topics. Dr. Bruce Lipton Ph.D. is an internationally recognized leader in bridging science and spirit. His mission is to awaken people to their own creative and manifesting powers by understanding that we are not a victim to our genetics and that we can learn to reprogram our subconscious mind to have a healthier and happier life. He is a stem cell biologist and bestselling author. In this episode, Bruce and Philly discusses the 6th mass extinction and why human behaviour is the cause of this one and what we can do about it. They talk about what causes most diseases and it is not our genes which is connected to less than 1% of diseases. He tells Philly that the fear of cancer is actually the greatest cause of cancer. He describes what epigenetics is and how this discovery made him believe without a doubt that there was life after physical death, and it eliminated his fear of dying for good. He explains how we have been programmed to believe that our genes control our lives when in fact it is the other way round which means we are the creators of our lives and not the victims. They discuss the big business of the pharmaceutical and medical industry and why there is no encouragement to give people health. He also reveals the 3rd leading cause of death which may shock you! He talks about how the Darwinian theory of ‘survival of the fittest' has been the biggest cause of the problems on the planet and reveals the evolutionary theory we need to live by to thrive with the planet. They talk about the placebo and nocebo effect and how our belief systems and our subconscious mind create our reality. He also reveals that he was nearly 50 by the time he met his wife and had his first healthy relationship, this was due to programming from his own parents. He has since been living 28 years of a honeymoon with her and that's because he changed the programming in his subconscious mind and so can you.Books referenced in the show:The Field, Lyn McTaggertThe Biology of Belief, Bruce LiptonYou can follow Bruce at:Website: www.brucelipton.comResources for belief changing: Resources - Bruce H. My niece has asked me to help her landscape her yard. These are her rules: nothing that takes any time and no hosta! How is she even related to me? HA. I'm about to break some news to her. First there will always be some time to give to your landscape, even the "easy" ones and there are 2 new types of hosta with frilly leaves that should knock her socks off. Take a look on today's Garden Bite.
In today's podcast, Quinn addresses how to reduce or prevent family tension at holiday gatherings. Because it's something that is normal for so many, but something so many don't know how to change. The point of this podcast is to help you work to make your holiday gatherings less stressful and more enjoyable and aligned with honoring God. In the episode, Quinn offers listeners 7 things to avoid which include: 7 Don't to Prevent Family Tension: Don't call someone out in front of the family. Don't wait to have a hard conversation at a family gathering. Save them for before or after. Do not over-drink or overindulge. Don't respect the host house. Don't be upset when someone sets a boundary. Respect it. Don't leave children unattended. Don't show favoritism toward grand kids. 4 Things to Prevent Tension as A Host As the host, tell people your schedule. If someone isn't responding, reach out to them and ask: What can I do to make you more comfortable? Create spaces of retreat. Offer fun activities for different types of people – the introverts and extroverts. 3 Things to Do to Avoid Stop Continued Hurt or Family Tension Set realistic expectations. If you need to communicate, figure out what needs to be said to make things the most ideal. Change the pattern. Change the system. Look for moments to connect instead of moments to criticize. And have fun! Scripture Renewal Tip: Ephesians 5 Mind Renewal Tip: God loves families. He desires us to seek healthy relationships because it brings heaven to earth.

When it comes to her art Jnet has always had the desire to create something of beauty made from her hands. Her love of clay focuses on two main properties: the contrasts of transforming a soft malleable material into a rock hard object that retains the appearance of softness, and the ability to create unpredictable colors and designs on pottery and sculptures with fire. She strives to create sculpturally functional hand-built and wheel thrown forms inspired by joyful colors and nature. Her artwork does not attempt to address any issues facing us, but is a simple exploration of the expressive qualities of color and the sculptural qualities of a leaf, especially Hostas. To her, every piece she creates is a way to add an element of beauty and joy to someone's day-to-day life.To see Jnet's work check out her website and follow her on Facebook & Instagram.
