Send us a Text Message.Ricochet is a country music band that rose to fame in the mid-1990s, becoming known for their distinctive harmonies and energetic performances. Formed in 1993 in Oklahoma, the original lineup consisted of lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Heath Wright, lead guitarist Eddie Kilgallon, bass guitarist Greg Cook, drummer Jeff Bryant, and keyboardist Teddy Carr. Ricochet quickly gained attention in the country music scene with their blend of traditional country and rock influences, setting them apart from other acts of the time.Their breakthrough came in 1996 with the release of their self-titled debut album under Columbia Records. The album spawned several hit singles, with the standout track "Daddy's Money" becoming their signature song. "Daddy's Money" reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart and was a commercial success, solidifying Ricochet's place in the country music industry. The song, with its catchy melody and relatable lyrics about a young man's infatuation with a girl whose charm and beauty overshadow her wealthy background, became a fan favorite and remains one of the most memorable tracks of the 1990s country music era.In addition to "Daddy's Money," the band's debut album produced other notable singles such as "What Do I Know" and "Love Is Stronger Than Pride," both of which charted in the Top 10 on the country charts. These songs showcased Ricochet's ability to blend heartfelt lyrics with upbeat, toe-tapping rhythms, earning them a loyal fanbase and critical acclaim. One of the defining features of Ricochet's music is their tight vocal harmonies, which set them apart from many of their contemporaries. This vocal blend became a hallmark of their sound, drawing comparisons to legendary groups like the Eagles. Their ability to harmonize effortlessly was a key factor in their success and contributed to their reputation as a dynamic live act.Ricochet continued to release music throughout the late 1990s and into the early 2000s, with albums like Blink of an Eye and What a Ride. Although they never quite recaptured the commercial success of their debut, they remained a popular touring band, beloved by fans for their high-energy shows and relatable songs.www.BetterHelp.com/TheBarnhttp://www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn http://www.betterhelp.com/TheBarnThis episode is sponsored by www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn and brought to you as always by The Barn Media Group. Teachers at the front line of progressive politics.   How a wave of teachers strikes in red state America is changing the political landscape. Education advocate Jeff Bryant tells us why a record number of educators are running for office, and what they want. Eric Blanc In 2018, in some of the reddest states in our nation, teachers led  a series of walkouts demanding not only better pay for themselves, but better schools for the children they teach.  Writer Eric Blanc embedded himself in this unlikely and powerful rebellion for an inside view of a movement that has the potential to rebuild working class politics in America. Jeff Bryant Jeff Bryant has written extensively about the intersection of education and politics. He says that a movement that began with teachers' walkouts has turned into an a record number of educators running for office and fighting for the future of public schools. SUPPORT THIS PODCAST: CLICK HEREJeff Bryant is a musician, actor and standup comic. He is formerly one half of the folk-pop duo the Human Statues and is now forging out on his own as a solo singer-songwriter. We chat about gaining wisdom around achievement as we get older and letting go of externally imposed ideas of success. He shares experiences of heartbreak and a health crisis that added up to a “now or never” moment in his life. We also dig into ideas around letting go of certainty of outcomes and how that plays into stage fright and how some musicians look down their nose at playing covers. (Jeff reminds us The Beatles started as a cover band.) He also gives us a behind-the-shades view of his experience being an actual human statue and shares his daily journaling practice that focuses on hope.“Like any other human being, I very much struggle with despair versus hope. Up until this point in my life, I think I frequently imagined (that) how I feel is just something that happens to me. And now, at this stage of my life, I understand hope is a muscle. Every single day in the morning I journal. And one of the first things I do is rate my hopeful mood. And that’s just an example of me being attuned to why I’m hopeful or not and for what reason. I notice the impact it has because what I do is I review my journal entries every week or two. One of the most interesting things I find is that there’s times where the despair can seriously kick my ass. And when it happens, it feels like my world. And what you realize when you look at the data is, no no, that was something that was going on that day, and it was temporary. The more your awareness evolves around that, the more you appreciate that there’s a fluid experience of optimism, pessimism, hopefulness, despair. And your job, just like how you eat, exercise, all these things, is to try to orient yourself around being a good shape.“---SUPPORT THIS PODCAST: CLICK HERE---JEFF BRYANT WEB https://www.therealjeffbryant.com IG https://www.instagram.com/therealjeffbryant SPOT http://spoti.fi/3vAXd4f--- AND SOMETIMES ... Hello friends and at last welcome back to BORP! after a long pandemic safety related hiatus we are finally back with the big EP 50! We're super excited to be back and have missed you all very much. After so long of not being able to record together Mick and Tristan spend time catching up on their newly hermetic life styles. Mick is drinking a lot more tea and Tristan mostly just wants to play with Pete The Cat. Because we've hit one of those fun mile stone episodes (where's our congratulatory letter from the queen?) we went with some extra special topics for this round. For our album pick (18:05) we listen to the colossal break up record, and Tristan's favourite album of the 2010s, Take Me Apart by Kelela. For our film pick (1:14:50) we watched the seminal, monumental, and towering anime epic Akira. We're equal parts mollified by the technical wizardry and the convoluted thematics but what a ride. For New and Noteworthy (1:57:20) we checked out tracks my Rósín Murphy, Jerry Paper, Playboi Carti, and Jeff Bryant. Moving on to Three Questions (2:25:02) Tristan reveals himself as the uncultured swine that he is but at least he likes trees. We had tons of fun recording in Mick's newly flexed out studio space and are pumped to be making new episodes again. Find the episode on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or our site Midrange. Also find our episode playlist featuring every track we cover in detail on Apple Music and Spotify. Thanks friends!

Victoria, British Columbia’s Jeff Bryant, is singer/songwriter, and a human being with a beautiful and connected spirit. He came onto the show to talk about not only his new EP “The Great Unknown”, but how the metaphorical ‘picture’ both on the album art but in his life, is a representation of fragility and honesty. Contrary to the connected spirit he has now, there was a long period of disconnection, depression and distance, from his ability to willfully craft songs and want to share them with the world. The journey to get to now was plagued by those things, making this release a big personal win, and hopefully only the beginning of more! In the meantime, I’m remembering Jeff fondly from his days in the late 2000s in a duo called The Human Statues, with Zachary Stevenson. They were based out of Toronto at the time, and rocked my world as guests on my first podcast in 2008. Even then, there was an intelligent approach to their offbrand yet worldclass group of songs and stage presence. How could I say no to chatting with Jeff again, who certainly agreed to reflect on that time, but fondly remember those days as I do, in memory?
