Hey everybody, tonight I'm talking to bestselling thriller author Jerome Preisler about Moving Target, his newest in the Tom Clancy: Net Force series. Net Force: Moving Target A NEW BATTLE IS BREWING—ONE THAT WILL SOON RAGE ACROSS ALL POLITICAL AND GEOGRAPHIC LINES. As this new threat escalates, the US president calls on the members of Net Force to prevent global chaos. In Paris, the leader of a new political movement has gone into hiding, pursued by a relentless group of bio enhanced assassins. Seeking to rescue him in the mysterious catacombs beneath the city is one of Net Force's own, Kali Alcazar, who has become a hunted fugitive herself. Halfway across Europe, meanwhile, her friends are about to strike at the heavily armed fortress of the world's most dangerous hacker…and he's prepared a deadly trap for them. “Jerome Preisler takes us deep into the dark side of the web.” —Jim DeFelice on Net Force: Attack Protocol “A tightly woven, expertly crafted story with a finger on the pulse of the overwhelmingly clear and present danger of cyberterrorism.” —Marc Cameron on Net Force: Dark Web About Jerome Jerome is the New York Times bestselling author of over forty books of fiction and narrative nonfiction. Morgan chats from his tour bus Last month, Craig Morgan -- Army veteran, country music hit-maker and star of the CBS series Beyond The Edge -- released his much-anticipated personal memoir, God, Family, Country, in partnership with Blackstone Publishing. The book, which Morgan wrote with Jim DeFelice, details the country star's road to success, from his humble childhood in Tennessee to his years as an elite military operative to his country music stardom with 25 Billboard charting hits. He recently wrapped a six city in-person national book tour where he chatted with fans and personally signing copies of the book. I met with him in Los Angeles where he discussed his life with the small audience. He will release the deluxe edition of his latest album, God, Family, Country (Deluxe Edition), on November 11th. The project, aptly releasing on Veterans Day and coinciding with his headlining show at Nashville's iconic Ryman Auditorium, features 14 tracks including “How You Make A Man,” Morgan's newest single impacting country radio now. Morgan will launch his headlining Operation Finally Home Welcomes God, Family, Country Tour 2022 with Craig Morgan this fall, playing 11 theater and auditorium dates in October and November. Kicking off October 19th in Green Bay, WI, he'll be joined by country hitmaker Ray Fulcher to open the shows. In this episode of The Music Universe Podcast, Morgan chats with us about the memoir, album and how faith keeps him grounded. They Called Us "Lucky": The Life and Afterlife of the Iraq War's Hardest Hit Unit by Ruben Gallego, Jim DeFelice From the Arizona Congressman, a 21st-century Band of Brothers chronicling the eternal bonds forged between the Marines of Lima Company, the hardest-hit unit of the Iraq War At first, they were “Lucky Lima.” Infantryman Ruben Gallego and his brothers in Lima Company—3rd Battalion, 25th Marines, young men drawn from blue-collar towns, immigrant households, Navajo reservations—returned unscathed on patrol after patrol through the increasingly violent al Anbar region of Iraq, looking for weapons caches and insurgents trying to destabilize the nascent Iraqi government. After two months in Iraq, Lima didn't have a casualty, not a single Purple Heart, no injury worse than a blister. Lucky Lima. Then, in May 2005, Lima's fortunes flipped. Unknown to Ruben and his fellow grunts, al Anbar had recently become a haven for al Qaeda in Mesopotamia. The bin Laden-sponsored group had recruited radicals from all over the world for jihad against the Americans. On one fateful day, they were lured into a death house; the ambush cost the lives of two men, including a platoon sergeant. Two days later, Ruben's best friend, Jonathon Grant, died in an IED attack, along with several others. Events worsened from there. A disastrous operation in Haditha in August claimed the lives of thirteen Marines when an IED destroyed their amphibious vehicle. It was the worst single-day loss for the Marines since the 1983 Beirut bombings. By the time 3/25 went home in November, it had lost more men than any other single unit in the war. Forty-six Marines and two Navy Corpsmen serving with the battalion in Iraq were killed in action during their roughly nine-month activation. They Called Us “Lucky” details Ruben Gallego's journey and includes harrowing accounts of some of the war's most costly battles. It details the struggles and the successes of Ruben—now a member of Congress—and the rest of Lima Company following Iraq, examining the complicated matter of PTSD. And it serves as a tribute to Ruben's fallen comrades, who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

Something a bit more personal, since I had a relative who rode for the Pony Express, a brief, but (formerly) iconic episode in American history. (The written version of this was originally posted January 9, 2019).

09112018September 11, 2001 is a day that will certainly live in infamy. A day that just about everyone (now considering there is a generation that is too young to remember the events of that day) remembers exactly where they were when the news broke. While this particular topic is one of regular interest on The Malliard Report, we will be taking a different approach from what we usually do. We will be setting aside the conspiratorial hat, and simply looking at the happenings of that tragic day. There are many theories to what happened, why it happened, and to whom the blame falls upon, but we will not be focusing on that this week. All too often we become so focused on the conspiracies that shroud the day in mystery we forget that a catastrophic amount of life was lost on that day. Brave firefighters answering the calls of the unknown, unsuspecting office workers, and countless others fell victim to the event. We need to take time to remember those that suffered; those who lost loved ones, and not let the gravity of the day be forgotten. This is a special episode because we get to hear reflections from several different prominent people, and their take on the situation as whole. First up is best selling author Jim DeFelice. Most notably recognized for his work American Sniper, Jim shares his experiences while working in New York. Following Jim DeFelice is political tycoon Roger Stone, never short of great insight, Roger gives his take on the day, and lastly the Malliard favorite, Germantown runner shares what life was like on the east coast during the tumultuous weeks that followed.Where were you on that day? Share with us through Twitter @Malliard or connect through the website malliard.com. Don't forget to head over to our sponsor veriteesapparel.com and pick out a great new shirt. Code Name: Johnny Walker embodies everything that the Warrior Mindset Podcast was built upon. Johnny Walker was the Navy SEALs’ most trusted translator. A man who is credited with saving countless American lives and has become a legend in the special-ops community. Co-host Brad Nagel and Johnny worked together many times. This episode we hear how Brad was with Johnny on Johnny's first operation together. From then on, Johnny was on a path that was worth writing a book on. The Co-Author of the film American Sniper, Jim DeFelice, co-wrote Johnny's memoir titled "Code Name: Johnny Walker." A film is currently being directed by the Director of the cinematic hit "Straight of Out Compton" Alan Wenkus. Johnny and Brad clearly have a bond that can never be understood unless you were with them in the theater of war. It's a bond that they call brotherhood, but I think it's more than that, there just isn't a better word for it. It makes me wonder what types of things we miss out on as human beings when two guys wish they were back in war together. Johnnys book tells those stories from a man with what seems like the most unlikely chances to become what he is today. It's an example that no matter what odds you face, overcome the adversity, love your friends and family, and be hell on earth for the people who want to take that away from you. Enjoy Rick's interview with Jim DeFelice and they talk about his laterest book about the Pony Express. American Sniper co-author Jim DeFelice celebrates the legends, separates fact from fiction, and probes the darker side of the Pony Express in his new book, WEST LIKE LIGHTNING: The Brief, Legendary Ride of the Pony Express. The Pony Express tied America together from the Mississippi River to California. It was the Internet - and the Space Shuttle - of its time. Wild Bill Hickock and Buffalo Bill Cody were associated with it. Americans from Missouri to California depended on it for news and mail. It was also an audacious get-rich quick scheme - an attempt to monopolize freight, transportation, and financial services through half the country. It involved a swindle of hundreds of thousands of dollars, bribes to government officials, and the occasional loss of life, an ear or other body part. Congressmen and at least one shady banker got rich off it, albeit illegally. The only thing standing in its way were 1,500 miles of desert, impassible mountains, hostile Indians, sociopathic killers and religious fanatics. Had the scheme behind it succeeded, the credit card we carry today, would have a Pony logo on it. We’d be making mortgage payments to the Pony Bank. Instead, those honors go to its chief rivals: American Express and Wells Fargo. WEST LIKE LIGHTNING retraces the Pony Express trail, figuratively and literally, from St. Joseph, Missouri, to San Francisco, California, with myriad stops in between to talk about Western expansion, Native Americans, the effects of gold and silver rushes, Mormons, railroads, the telegraph, and the bloody conflict that tore the nation apart even before the cannons fired on Fort Sumter. About the author: Jim DeFelice is the co-author of the #1 New York Times bestseller American Sniper, the New York Timesbestsellers American Wife and Code Name: Johnny Walker, Omar Bradley: General at War. He has also written a number of acclaimed thrillers, including the Dreamland series with Dale Brown.

Four days a week, at 9am, for 20 minutes, the school becomes nearly silent. Students gather in groups of 10-15 students all over the school to read with teachers. Almost all of these reading breaks hum with engaged reading. Engaged readers are not hard to spot. They ignore distractions. They continue reading through the morning announcements. They settle into a peace and contentment we so rarely see in high schools today. The enthusiasm for reading in students and in teachers is easy to see as well–they finish one book and have plans for the next, they bring in books to read and to share with each other. They continually invite, rather than police, kids into reading, simply because they know how important it is. Our school is committed to developing a community of readers. I believe it happened because we hired a principal who used to own a bookstore. Neal Moylan responded to growing apathy about reading with time for pleasure reading. And, he tripled the English teachers library budget for them all to start classroom libraries, then also allocated money for any teacher in any content area to personalize their classroom library. That with a shrinking budget. The teachers you ll meet today are not English teachers. But they are passionate about reading, and they are advocates for individual kids. And, to recognize Memorial Day, we conclude this episode with a story of a legacy, a woman who left her mark on everyone who knew her. Thanks so much for joining us today. After working his way through college as a young reporter, Jim became an award-winning journalist, political columnist, and editor before leaving to write books full time. In more than three dozen military and technothrillers, and his first military history Rangers at Dieppe, Jim has explored the effects of war, politics, terrorism and technology on ordinary soldiers and civilians. Taking his readers around the world, Jim has set his novels in such far-flung places as India and Pakistan (War Breaker), Cuba (Havana Strike), Peru, North Korea, Paris and Istanbul (Deep Black series), the Vatican in Rome (Rogue Warrior: Holy Terror), the Middle East (Leopards Kill), and back in time to World War II-era Britain and France (Rangers in Dieppe).
American Sniper is the astonishing autobiography of SEAL Chief Chris Kyle, who is the record-holder for most kills for a sniper in U.S. military history. Kyle has more than 150 officially confirmed kills (the previous American record was 109), though his remarkable career total has not been made official by the Pentagon. In this New York Times bestselling memoir, Kyle shares the true story of his extraordinary decade-long career, including his multiple combat tours in Iraq (Operation Iraqi Freedom) and elsewhere from 1999-2009.Kyle’s riveting first-person account of how he went from Texas rodeo cowboy to expert marksman and feared assassin offers a fascinating view of modern-day warfare and one of the most in-depth and illuminating looks into the secret world of Special Ops ever written. Red Dragon Rising: Blood of War, an explosive new thriller from New York Times bestselling author Larry Bond and Jim DeFelice. As depression and drought wrack China, the country’s new premier has launched a deadly war with Vietnam. The assault has left the world on the precipice of disaster….U.S. Army Major Zeus Murphy disobeys his commander and plunges headlong into the conflict, leading the Vietnamese in a covert attack against the Chinese army massing on the border. If the gambit fails, China will roll over Vietnam—and Zeus will lose the only woman he has ever loved, kept prisoner in a secret base north of Hanoi.
More than twenty years ago, Larry Bond helped Tom Clancy write Red Storm Rising, the iconic techno thriller of the Cold War era. Now he returns (with Jim DeFelice) to start a classic series for our era, Larry Bond's Red Dragon Rising, which imagines the globe torn apart by climate change and its economic and geopolitical fallout. In book one of this four-book series, rapid climate change leads to mass riots in China, and a new communist premier seeks to relieve pressure by marching on traditional Chinese enemies in Southeast Asia. Desperately coping with its own problems, the United States wants to avoid nuclear war at all costs--but ultimately must fight to preserve world peace.
This is a great biography, Omar Bradley: General at War, full of details about some of the most iconic battles of WW2. Gen. Bradley always played second fiddle to braggards like Macarthur and showmen like Patton. In fact, he was trusted and respected all the way up to Ike and even FDR. One of the great stories in the book, that I had never heard before, involved FDR calling Bradley to the White House to brief him on the Italian operations. During that meeting, FDR let Bradley know about the development of the Atom bomb, a secret even VP Truman did not know about. The book was written by NY Times bestselling author Jim DeFelice. Jim was a really good guy except for one thing that was, well, disappointing (Yankee fan). Thankfully, the book is great!
