Those of us working in health often focus on the government as the main agent to get things done, especially when it comes to public health. But think of all the others out there with power, particularly commercial and investment power.  There are signs that businesses and institutional investors do seem to be getting more interested in health, with some businesses starting to consider their impact on health in their environmental, social and governance (ESG) reporting. Are we now at a turning point? Or is interest in health temporary? If businesses and investors really want to improve health, how do they best move forward? And can government do more to support them? Our Chief Executive Dr Jennifer Dixon discusses this with expert guests: Catherine Howarth joined ShareAction as Chief Executive in 2008. ShareAction coordinates civil society activism to promote responsible investment across Europe. Catherine also serves on HM Treasury's Asset Management Taskforce.  John Godfrey joined Legal & General in 2006 and is now Director of Corporate Affairs. Today, technology companies are facing some of their largest security, supply chain, and regulatory threats ever. Members of Congress, the administration, and Federal Trade Commission are trying to require that firms allow anyone, anywhere to repair their consumer devices — at a high cost to product quality and individual security. Meanwhile, cyberattacks and data breaches are on the rise, and while trying to get next-generation 5G products off the ground, both software and hardware providers are facing massive semiconductor chip shortages. How are large tech companies navigating these challenges? When John Godfrey's body was found down a rural road just outside the Victoria city limits on Tuesday, December 7th, 1976 it changed the town for many. Not only was John's the third unsolved murder that year but his slaying was also especially brutal, the work of a depraved and heartless killer. The Victoria County Sheriff's Department, who had jurisdiction for the murder, said they were conducting a comprehensive investigation. That investigation, however, went nowhere. When a recently released convict was arrested and charged for an attempted murder that happened a couple months before John Godfrey was killed, he became, according to some, the cops' suspect number one. Hello, I am Joel Ingram, and this is "Crisis to Crushin' It" Podcast. Let’s dive into this week’s talk, and help to: 1. Increase perspective. 2. Expand perception.  3. Allow you to change your reality. Today we have John Godfrey, who is a blockchain, Bitcoin and crypto consultant, Co-founder of Blockchain Consultancy Bitclass (mastering Bitcoin). He has been in business for nearly 30 years and "found" Bitcoin in 2012 when he was researching a financial disaster called MtGox. He left school practical illiterate and didn’t find out he was dyslexic until tested and eventually went to college to learn to read. Growing up through the 1970’s was a tough time, because he couldn’t read he was constantly called a retard (and often beaten) by teachers, in an effort to prove them wrong for himself, at 17 he built his first motor bike a Kawasaki Z1b 900. Success was infectious and so was building (anything), from there he wanted to build a life for himself, so after he joined college to learn to read he also started his first company and spent nearly 7 years in night school. Over the follow 10-15 years he built over £5 million worth of property. The biggest lesson taught to him was by his business mentor, and it’s the 25,000 thing, which is kind of like taking the red or the blue pill once you have it you can’t unknow it. He is currently adding the finishing touches to his 6-part training course on how to have, hold and use Bitcoin. John, Welcome to the show! He was brilliant, brave, and curious — and his tale unspools like a thrilling mystery. Architect Raoul Wallenberg, ’35, protected thousands of Jews from the Nazis in World War II. And then he vanished off the face of the earth. Details of his disappearance remain a mystery to this day, but he likely was murdered in a Russian prison shortly after the war ended. And though he is gone, the descendants of those Wallenberg saved continue to walk this earth, thanks to his courage and ingenuity. Each year the University confers its Wallenberg Medal to those individuals who demonstrate the capacity of the human spirit to stand up for the helpless, defend the integrity of the powerless, and speak out on behalf of the voiceless. The 2018 Wallenberg Medal recognized two youth organizations working to end gun violence. Representatives for the Chicago-based youth organization B.R.A.V.E. and the student activists behind March For Our Lives in Parkland, Fla., accepted the honors Nov. 14 in Rackham Auditorium.
