Embody: Feel, Heal, and Transform Your Life through Movement   In this episode of Richer Soul, Rocky Lalvani welcomes Toni Bergins, M.Ed., an embodiment trailblazer and creator of JourneyDance. Toni shares her deeply personal journey of self-discovery, healing, and how movement transformed her life. From growing up in a household where money was a source of tension to building a holistic career path that speaks to her heart, Toni inspires us to embrace authenticity, let go of fear, and embody our true selves.   Key Takeaways:  Transformational Power of Movement: Toni explains how movement goes beyond fitness. It's a practice of emotional and spiritual healing, allowing people to express, release, and find clarity in their lives. Unpacking Money Mindsets: Growing up, Toni observed financial anxiety and arguments around money in her household. She later realized that her beliefs about scarcity and abundance needed to be reprogrammed to achieve personal and financial success. Following a Non-traditional Path: Despite having professional degrees, Toni chose a career in the expressive arts, defying societal expectations. She highlights the importance of following one's passion, even if it means walking an unconventional road. Healing Emotional Trauma through Art: Toni emphasizes how art and movement helped her navigate emotional trauma. Her workshops and her upcoming book, Embody: Feel, Heal, and Transform Your Life through Movement, aim to offer the same healing to others.   Money Learning: Toni grew up in a family where money was seen as a source of tension. Although her family lived an upper-middle-class life, financial worries persisted. Her father, despite being a Harvard-educated lawyer, struggled with feelings of not being successful enough. Her mother's decision to pursue a career later in life inspired Toni's belief in self-empowerment.   Bio: Toni Bergins, M.Ed., is the founder of JourneyDance, a transformational movement practice. Over the past 27 years, she has been teaching at premier holistic healing centers, including the Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health. Toni's mission is to help individuals feel and heal through the power of movement. Her new book, Embody, is set to release in October 2024.   Key Discussion Points: Childhood Financial Dynamics: Financial discussions were rare in Toni's household but observing her parents' relationship with money shaped her early perceptions. Her father's entrepreneurial spirit clashed with societal expectations of success, creating a complex family dynamic around money. Choosing a Heart-Centered Career: Toni reflects on how she rejected the conventional paths of using her professional degrees and instead pursued her passion for dance and expressive arts. She had to overcome societal pressures and personal doubts to embrace her unique calling. Breaking Generational Patterns: Toni's journey was about breaking free from the financial anxieties she inherited. She shares how working on her money mindset allowed her to achieve financial independence and thrive in her chosen career. Upcoming Book: Embody: Toni's book offers a guide on using movement as a form of healing. It's a culmination of her decades of work in the field and her personal story of transformation.   Conclusion: Toni Bergins' story is a testament to the power of following your heart and transforming pain into purpose. Her work reminds us that healing isn't just an internal process—it can be a physical journey too. By listening to her inner voice and embracing her authentic path, Toni has created a life of fulfillment and financial stability, proving that success doesn't always follow a traditional route.   Links: Learn more at journeydance.com. https://www.facebook.com/toni.bergins/ https://www.facebook.com/JourneyDance/ https://www.facebook.com/ToniBerginsJourneyDance https://www.instagram.com/tonibergins/ https://www.instagram.com/journeydanceofficial/     Watch the full episode on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@richersoul Richer Soul Life Beyond Money. A new paradigm for embodied healing in a unique, experiential, therapeutic process in which expressive movement, guided imagery, ritual, music, and creative expression work together. In Embody, Toni Bergins, the founder and creator of JourneyDance, an internationally renowned dance movement program, shares with readers a powerful way to address trauma mindfully so people can confront it, heal, and grow to love themselves unconditionally, just as they are. Embody is a dynamic, conscious practice that can help people release what no longer serves them and shows them how to stop stuffing/numbing the pain and start feeling, stop over-thinking/limiting, and get moving! Embodiment is the new buzzword in personal transformation, but, most often, it is connected to static practices like breathwork and meditation. For Toni Bergins, embodiment is best achieved through active movement, and has created a practice where people literally get out of their heads and into their bodies! Her program is a trauma-informed one that offers a new promise: leading readers through deep, personal work but making it feel like play. In this book, she turns the heaviness of processing pain and past trauma into an expressive art aligned with the most recent research. Specifically, trauma expert Bessel van der Kolk, writes in his bestselling The Body Keeps the Score, “In order to overcome trauma, people need to feel safe enough to open up their hearts and minds to others and become engaged with new possibilities. This can be done if trauma survivors are helped to confront and confess the reality of what has happened and are helped to feel safe again. In many cultures this involves communal rhythmical activities, such as dancing…” And that is Toni Bergins' mission and method: to help readers move into a new story for their lives. Embody features Toni's prescription for a comprehensive healing journey, comprised of five core elements: · Music, to open the doorways of impulse, imagination, creativity and healing to change mood and awareness; · Movement, to enhance presence and confidence, and release old patterns and traumas; · Mystical Inquiry, where imagery and creative visualization exercises are used to guide readers into an alchemic and shamanic state to investigate past hurts, and learn to trust their instincts; · Prayers and Invocations, to raise energetic vibrations to a positive place with powerful affirmations; and · Journaling, with writing prompts to process inner self-awareness learned on the dance floor or through any of the other Embody elements. By the time Toni Bergins reached grad school, her life felt like chaos. Beneath the surface, she was grappling with the lingering effects of childhood trauma, which manifested in body image struggles, disordered eating, and self-destructive behaviors. She became consumed by exercise and dieting, using alcohol as a coping mechanism. Then, one day, Toni took a dance class—unlike any other. There was no choreography, no rules. As she ran freely around the room, Toni felt like a child again. She broke down, crying, unraveling—but she had loved every moment of it. This was Toni's introduction to embodied movement—a form of raw, primal dance that encourages women to fully inhabit their bodies and embrace every emotion. Today, embodied movement is helping countless women heal from their trauma.Toni Bergins is the creator of JourneyDance, a form of embodied movement which is helping women transform their lives. “Connection is the opposite of addiction” says Jean Trewhella. The connection through the ceremony of dance is undeniable in many native cultures. Ceremonial dance is used to commemorate important events or to show praise. Jean Trewhella embodies ceremony and this week takes you on a journey to connect and dance the night away.  Jean's journey through grief and using movement as process started when she was a child. Losing her non-binary child, Ty, to suicide five years ago, taught Jean just how important her connection and love of dance was. Jean was surrounded by her dance family when she received the call about Ty's death. Jean needed to have an official prescription to dance. That way she was sure to keep dancing, to keep moving. Because she needed to keep moving. We needed her to keep moving.  Jean Trewhella started Movement Insights to share the healing power of dance. Jean opened the doors at 100 Saratoga Village Blvd. Suite 10 Malta NY during the pandemic in 2020. Jean a engineer by trade, uses the healing art of dance to get us in touch with our own bodies and out of our minds. To emphasize healing through a ritualistic physical form of release.  Journey Dance is a modality that allows the participants to get out of our heads. The gifts of grounding, freedom, sensuality, emotion and release are just some of the benefits to letting go and getting into our bodies. This type of dance and movement is facilitated rather than taught. Dancing without mirrors allows for a non-judgmental environment to reveal, recover and re-discover our natural and intuitive movement.   This Sunday January 8th join AGP at the Sages Circle 443 Saratoga Rd, East Glenville at 1pm for our first Mental Health Meet-up Peer Group of 2023. We have not been able to do any of these following the pandemic and we are grateful to team up with Nippertown's premier metaphysical boutique and sacred space to bring us together to talk about mental health. Come for conversation, connection and community. This is a peer run, peer led group and is not intended to take the place of professional or medical help.  Return on Sunday February 12th at 6pm for an evening Discussion and Book Signing event with Tim (TPP) Parent to promote his new book, Never Underestimate the Power of You. Life is a DIY project and this is a DIY book. Join TPP if you are curious about healing and don't know where to begin. Attending will be a step in the right direction.  Thanks for listening to this week's episode. Podcast this week is a walk through the woods. I'm trying something, different. Describing the trails near my parents house. So many places to hike, to explore... I never did as a child. Our family was, and still is, an "inside" family. My parents both worked hard to get a home and keep a family, so leisure time was spent...relaxing. I always wanted to be outside but a fear of the outside world was instilled in me at a young age. But now... I love to go for walks to clear my mind. Sometimes, I'll listen to a podcast or sometimes I'll just listen to the outside world. It's all good my friends. So here is my first...narrated soundscape...please share with anyone who can't go outside right now. Kimberly Coleman is an intuitive Mind/Body Healer, holds many titles including Reiki Shihan, Master Massage Therapist, Yoga Teacher, and JourneyDance facilitator. She’s spent her life working hands-on with clients, helping them transform their lives through bodywork, energy healing, yoga, and breath work. In her search for joy Kimberly made an important discovery — that she couldn’t give away all her energy. The inner struggle of self-worth held her back and kept her from the life she wanted to lead. Even after she actively created a life she thought would be best, she was still unhappy. So she started to really investigate why she was unhappy on the inside, why life was always inadequate, and discovered when she looked deep inside, and decided to start loving herself — seriously filling herself up with the love and kindness that she usually gave away — things began to change. Stress decreased. Habits began to shift. People treated her differently. She could recognize and receive blessings that she’d never seen before. We cover a lot of ground in this talk, from what is prana, how to recognize your own signals, how beliefs create energy that you can leverage, and what looking back 2 years might tell you about struggles you're having now. Toward the end, Kimberly takes me and Tricia through her LoveBubble process, which leaves us floating.
