This is Jonathan Karl's third book on Trump, the three privately known together as the "Treason Trilogy." Karl is ABC News Chief Washington Correspondent. The book is Tired of Winning: Donald Trump and the End of the Grand Old Party . You can get your copy here. The book is based on his interviews with Donald Trump and top Trump officials, and paints a picture of a chaotic and directionless White House under Trump's leadership. Karl argues that Trump personally led the charge to overthrow the government on January 6th and remains a clear and present danger to democracy. He also discusses the loyalty Trump demands from his supporters and the potential consequences if Trump were to be reelected in 2024. Karl concludes by urging voters to understand the stakes and the potential dangers of a Trump return to power. Today Bill highlights the work of the Laborers' International Union of North America. A union at the heart of the American Labor Movement. Late last week, ballots were counted in a runoff union election between the Teamsters and The Laborers' International Union of North America to represent some Richmond workers. In June neither won a majority of the votes. On Friday, Virginia election officials said they added back nearly 3,400 voters who were mistakenly removed from the rolls – thousands more than initially projected. Isley Brewing Company has served its last … last round. With a rent hike coming, one of the longest running breweries in Scott's Addition had its final day of business on Sunday.
The idea behind No Labels, that Americans should have a third choice between Republicans and Democrats, might be a good idea if our democracy wasn't under attack by MAGA Republicans. But right now, democracy is on the ballot and a third party centrist candidacy will take more votes from Joe Biden than Donald Trump. And it might even get enough electoral votes to deny 270 to either Biden or Trump, resulting in the election being thrown to the House of Representatives. This is not the time to trifle with democracy. And that's what no labels is doing. Dick Gephardt the former Democratic Majority Leader of the House of Representatives come has formed a new group, Citizens to Save our Republic. His focus is to stop No Labels from fielding candidates and if they do, to advise voters in swing states that a vote for the No Labels candidate is a vote for Donald Trump. You can find more about this effort at ForOurRepublic.usToday's Bill Press Pod is supported by The Laborers' International Union of North America whose members are in the forefront of rebuilding America's infrastructure. She also discusses the indictment of Bob Menendez, (she thinks he should resign) the conviction of Peter Navarro, and the potential impeachment of Joe Biden. Lofgren expresses concern about the potential for a government shutdown and discusses the upcoming election for Senator Diane Feinstein's seat.Today's Bill Press pod is supported by the Laborers' International Union of North America. Stuart Stevens spent 30 years helping to elect Republicans at all levels of government as a top political strategist. In 2012 he was Mitt Romney's top political advisor. He is now a senior advisor for the Lincoln Project, a pro-democracy group made-up of Republicans, and former Republicans trying to keep Donald Trump out of the White House. And rescue the GOP from itself. In 2020, he wrote a book, It Was All a Lie: How the Republican Party Became Donald Trump. His main thesis was not that Donald Trump hijacked the Republican Party, but the Republican Party was waiting for someone like him for nearly 70 years. He says the only way the MAGA Republicans are going to be stopped, is to beat them at the ballot box over and over. Stevens has a new book coming out in October, The Conspiracy to End America: Five Ways My Old Party Is Driving Our Democracy to Autocracy. It's free and you can sign up here reliablesources.com.Here is a summary of Bill's conversation with Oliver. Darcy discussed the state of media and news consumption today. He criticized Fox News for its reluctance to address significant issues within the Republican Party and its role as a mouthpiece for the party. Darcy also discussed the impact of social media and AI on news consumption, noting that the landscape is more fractured than ever. He expressed concern about AI's potential to spread misinformation and capitalize on the work of news outlets without crediting them. Darcy also touched on the changes at CNN, including the introduction of a new generation of news anchors and the shift towards streaming with CNN Max.
