Today, we have a very special guest, Linette, a Latina portrait Photographer and Creative Director who has an amazing story to share. Linette graduated with a Bachelors in Communication at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign in 2012 and started her career in photography in 2014, quickly becoming a rising star in her industry. Life took a drastic turn when she had to do a cross-country move with her family where she welcomed her second child a month later. As a mother of two, without a village, Linette slowly lost control of her purpose. Through self-discovery, moving back home, and psychotherapy, Linette was able to find her footing again. Raising multicultural children, Linette's goal is to build community and empower women through photography to see and be the best version of themselves. Her journey has been both inspiring and uplifting, and we're excited to hear all about it. Linette is also getting ready to launch her own podcast this year around self value within us and becoming a mental health ally to empower others to get the tools they need in their mental health journey. So, let's get started and hear from Linette herself about her experiences as a mother, a photographer, and creative director. This is a conversation you don't want to miss!
Luzy King is an award-winning entrepreneur, Certified Trauma of Money Wealth Coach, contributing author, Community Leader, and Founder of Say Hola Wealth. Luzy is on a mission to destigmatize the idea of wanting more money to help women build a legacy through stock market investing and entrepreneurship. As a first-gen investor from humble beginnings, Luzy understands the challenges of building wealth not only because financial literacy is not taught in school but also because of the cultural beliefs around money in the Latina community. In 2019, Luzy launched her coaching business after witnessing how many women were pushed out of the workforce due to a global pandemic, and many were not financially secure. Now she teaches Latinas and WOC the strategies she used to pay off $220K in student loan debt in 36 months and be on track to make work optional at 45.
Just like every start of a new year, we see and hear marketing campaigns about meeting “weight loss” resolutions. As you probably know, numerous studies show that New Year's weight loss resolutions almost never work. Instead of planning on a quick-fix diet or weight loss program, we should consider a sustainable, long-term approach that would help us become more present and self-compassionate about ourselves. I invite you in this conversation with Marissa Prieto, a Non-Diet Latina Registered Dietitian, with more than 12 years of experience. She is committed to helping Latina women and Latina mothers improve their relationship with food and their body so that they can live a joyful life without the stress of dieting, keep their cultural foods alive, & break the generational cycle of dieting in their family. In this episode, we talk about: How we can unlearn the negative perceptions that we grew up with about our ancestral and cultural foods How we can heal ourselves to be self-compassionate mujeres How to create a body-neutral and/or body-positive mindset about undieting You can follow Marissa Prieto on Instagram, Facebook and her website to learn more about her journey and how you can heal toward having a positive relationship with food, mind, & body. Isabel Gonzalez-Smith is a mother, doula, and the founder of Chicago Latina Moms. Isabel founded Chicago Latina Moms in the summer of 2014 when she was pregnant with her first son after struggling to find a community that didn't automatically associate Latina motherhood with crisis and was determined to create a space for celebration, empowerment, and growth. Today, Chicago Latina Moms (www.chicagolatinamoms.com) is a non profit organization dedicated to empowering, uplifting, and celebrating the Latina mother with an online community of over four thousand members. Isabel has also served families as a birth and postpartum doula as La Luna Doula since 2016 and is part of citywide efforts to improve Chicago maternal and child health. When Isa is not working, you can find her advocating for the neurodivergent community, exploring nature with her sons, and trying to keep her houseplants alive! Hey Girl, I felt it in my heart to bring you a word of encouragement. Are you an hija who grew up without a mom, and feel like you missed out. Do you feel like less of a mujer/woman because you didn't have that mother figure in your life? You didn't have a role model to teach you and nurture you. I can relate to that, because after I was 11 I lived with my dad. I had a big hole in my life, and felt like I would never have that special mother daughter relationship. Now that I have a daughter, I see how beautiful a truly special it is. I get to have what I didn't have so many years ago. I want to encourage you on this bonus episode that no matter if you didn't have that, God will bless you. SO to the Motherless Daughter, please know that you are loved and you are so worthy. In this episode, Real Moms Too interview Sandra Guerra-Lizarraga, a 40-year-old Latina mother from Peru, who shares how she overcame unicornuate uterus, a uterine abnormality. Unicornuate uterus, is a birth defect in which the uterus is developed abnormally, often functioning with just one fallopian tube. A woman with unicornuate uterus can experience miscarriages, preterm labor, breech birth, infertility and other complications. Sandra is a mother of 5 children (ranging in ages 2 months to 21 years old), despite being told she would never be able to conceive. From infertility, to undergoing in vitro, experiencing hyperemesis gravidarum, dealing with postpartum depression, and having a tubal ligation, Sandra has experienced a great deal throughout her motherhood journey. But through it all, Sandra has gained a beautiful family, stronger faith, and hopes all mothers can learn from her inspiring story.
