Sales Game Changers | Tip-Filled Conversations with Sales Leaders About Their Successful Careers
This is episode 516. Tips for sales career advancement. Read the complete transcription on the Sales Game Changers Podcast website. GENEIN'S TIP: "Find the miracles in the mundane. Right now, look at what's in front of you and pick up something that you've been exposed to for a long time. Look for one new thing you've never noticed before. With that, you can look at your services. Try to find one thing you've never noticed about your service before. First you do it with an object in front of you to make it concrete and then you can take it into the abstract. One thing in my observational chapter that I never noticed before or that I can add in dealing with the mundane things that you're just so used to really seeing, that's biomimicry, how we can look at nature that we walk past. Look at it with a new eye, a fresh eye and there's your innovation."

How does culture impact a person's ability to learn and be creative? In this episode of the Fueling Creativity podcast, Dr. Cyndi Burnett and Dr. Matthew Worwood speak withGenein Letford, Founder and CEO of CAFFEE Strategies, a top 'intercultural creative thinking' professional development training organization that trains employees to unleash their innovative thinking and create sustainable, organizational inclusion strategies. Tune in to learn the fundamentals of cultural competence and Intercultural Creativity™ along with neuroscience-backed tips for teachers on helping kids grow their cultural competency. As a trainer on creative thinking and Intercultural Creativity™, Genein has inspired and led many to reconnect to their creative abilities and produce innovative ideas for an inclusive workspace. Genein shares her thoughts on the impact of knowing your students' cultural value as well as how to help students become aware of their value and their cultural capital. She highlights the powerful role of emotions and storytelling in learning, then breaks down a few of the gems from her book, The 7 Gems of Intercultural Creativity, including empathetic imagination and perspective shifting. Plus, Genein sheds light on how her work as an educator has inspired her role as a mother. “We can't really ask people and young people to be at their full creative best if they're not in an inclusive environment that really has those cultural connections… That cultural competence is a big part of your creative thinking and creative growth.” - Genein Letford Special Offer: We found Genein's connection between culture and creativity extremely useful, and have decided to offer a special 90-minute workshop on Intercultural Creativity. For more information click here, and use the code: “Fueling” to receive 20% off the ticket price! Genein's Tips for Teachers and Parents: Share last. Your perspective may skew the perspective of the students, so encourage them to share their views and ideas first and then share yours afterwards. Say “thank you” to students who share their answers, ideas, and views. There are miracles in the metaphors. Bring metaphors into your day, your lessons, and your meetings and have fun with it. Arts are key. Artistry helps grow creativity. Observation is also key. You can't be creative if you have no data to be creative with, so create activities that combine sensory information, for example, going outside and listening to the sounds of nature. “Knowing that the cultural capital and the cultural experiences that the children are coming in with is key. That is gold because the brain doesn't learn by just throwing new information to it, the brain learns through integration, by integrating new information to already learned information. And so, if the teacher or the educator… doesn't know what the child already knows and what is important to the child, that integration is low.” - Genein Letford Resources Mentioned: The 7 Gems of Intercultural Creativity by Genein Letford Listen to the episode with Dr. Vlad Glaveanu The Torrance Incubation Model (TIM) Listen to Create and Grow Podcast Ep 74 Listen to Create and Grow Podcast Ep 66 Listen to Create and Grow Podcast Ep 79 Eager to bring more creativity into your home or classroom? To know your brain is to know your mind is to know your LIFE. One thing that happens in your brain during learning is myelination. This is when the axons of the neurons become fixated together, with myelin (a fatty substance), to help the electrical impulses travel faster throughout your body. What does this mean for your Intercultural Creativity®? Since creative thinking is a skill, anything you do with repetition gets stronger. Same with cultural competence. In this Diamond Mentor Moment, I share how to incorporate this concept of myelination into your life and I share an example from my life of how this played out with my public speaking. This will be the new skill organizations will be looking for in their new candidates. Conceptual Combination - the ability to combine and recombine items to create new ideas. One way to practice this is to make connections between non-associated items. Last week I posted What is a connection between: a) Abraham Lincoln b) The Titanic c) Jackie Robinson I posted this on all my platforms and only two people responded. I even offered a free signed book! It's funny because research shows that only about 2% of the population retains their genius thinking creative ability. I guess I found my two representatives. Watch to learn their answers as well as my own associations. I'll be teaching on the concept of ‘Association Barriers' and why you want people on your work team to be able to make un-obvious associations in this future of work. June is a month for many celebrations but it is also PTSD Awareness Month. I am connecting this awareness to the topic of 'Creative Abuse' that so many people are dealing with in their personal lives and in their workspace. Many people hold onto an event that was so shaming in their childhood that it changed the way they thought of themselves. It changed their identity. A certain percentage of those people have those events around a creative act. These 'creativity scars' affect the way we create and interact with others. Our creativity stems from our identity. So if our identity is abused, our creative production will be also. This diamond mentor moment discusses the effect of this and offers some strategies to start rebuilding your creative identity.
