We've been told that if we just show people the data on racial health disparities, change will follow. It hasn't. In this episode, Corey sits down with Dr. Sarah Gollust (University of Minnesota) and Dr. Neil Lewis Jr. (Cornell University), researchers with the Collaborative on Media and Messaging for Health and Social Policy (CommHSP), to unpack why the numbers alone never move people — and what does. Cultural Differences and Government with Maria Paula Correa Maria Paula Correa serves as Chief Relationship Officer at Libra Group, overseeing global partnerships with governments and key stakeholders. Based in Miami and Bogotá, she is part of the Group's Leadership Team. She plays a pivotal role in establishing connections that bridge cultural differences and align government priorities across international markets. Her focus is on creating trust-based relationships that drive cooperation and sustainable growth. Between 2018 and 2022, Maria was Chief of Cabinet to the President of Colombia, working under President Iván Duque Márquez. In this position, she directed interinstitutional coordination, international relations, and strategic communications for the national government. Before that, she was Senior Director of Strategic Engagement at Concordia, promoting dialogue on global partnerships and how cultural differences and government influence policy and collaboration. Earlier, she worked as Consul at the Colombian Consulate in New York and as Advisor to the Chief of Staff during President Álvaro Uribe's administration, strengthening Colombia's diplomatic relations abroad. Maria holds an MPA from Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs and a B.A. in Law with a Political Science concentration from Universidad de Los Andes in Colombia. She also completed diplomas in Political Communications from Universidad Javeriana and Public Management and Administrative Institutions from Universidad de Los Andes. Diversity, equity, and inclusion have become polarizing terms in our world and that is likely because they are greatly misunderstood. Part of that misunderstanding comes from our unconscious filters - how we see the world, how we take in information, and how we assume we are “the norm" but others are different when the reality is we are ALL different.Today, Sara Taylor illuminates us by sharing what unconscious filters are and the three purposes they serve for us humans - even though they can get in the way of effective relationships.
