Theology ought to be ruled by the biblical text. So says Prof. Yarnell, a systematic theologian who studied Hebrew and Greek and who makes careful use of those languages in his work. In this episode he explains the importance of the languages for theological reasoning generally, and specifically with reference to an OT text that was debated by Church Fathers such as Athanasius. Dr. Malcolm Yarnell III is Research Professor of Theology at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and is Teaching Pastor at Lakeside Baptist Church. His publications include Who Is the Holy Spirit?: Biblical Insights into His Divine Person and God, Volume 1 of Theology for Every Person. Title: The Living Word of God Passage: Hebrews 4:12-13, Romans 10 Date: 10.6.24
This week Daniel Ray concludes his discussion with Malcolm Yarnell about his latest book, God: Theology for Every Person. Why should we fully embrace theology? Knowing, loving, and worshiping God is the call and privilege of every disciple of Jesus. Because all Christians are part of his royal priesthood, theology is not just for those teaching in the academy or serving in ministry vocations. God is Malcolm's first volume of a three-part series entitled Theology for Every Person. The other volumes will include God's Word to the World, which considers God in Christ and his works of creation, humanity, and redemption, and God's Work in the World, which explores God the Holy Spirit and the divine works of salvation, the church, and the end.Malcolm B. Yarnell III of Benbrook, Texas serves his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as an author, teacher, and pastor. His most recent books include the first volume of a popular-level theology, God (Brentwood, 2024); a systematic treatise, Special Revelation and Scripture (Brentwood, 2024); and a biblical theology, Who Is the Holy Spirit? (Nashville, 2019). Whether speaking to international academic colloquia or to local congregations, Dr. Yarnell's personal passion is to bless people and glorify God. He currently serves the Lakeside Baptist Church in Granbury, Texas, as Teaching Pastor and the churches of the Southern Baptist Convention as Research Professor of Systematic Theology at the Southwestern Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.Related Links: Free access to some related Watchman Profiles: Watchman Fellowship 4-page Profile on Atheism by Dr. Robert M. If youth workers aren't teaching teenagers about God then how can we call what we're doing "ministry"? The doctrine of God is a topic that people tend to either take for granted or they are intimidated by it's grandeur. This conversation highlights some of the core aspects of the doctrine of God and why it's so important to talk about with teenagers. What is the vision behind the “Theology for Every Person” series? People are easily intimidated by the word “theology.” Why is it so important to promote theology for normal believers? Why start with the doctrine of God and not the doctrine of Scripture/Revelation? Could you give us an overview of the doctrine of God, what does that involve? Does someone need to believe in the Trinity in order to be a Christian? What about the new believer? Our audience is primarily youth pastors and volunteer youth workers… what advice do you have for them in talking about the Trinity and doctrine of God with teenagers, in a way that is simple to understand and doctrinally sound? Advice about a youth teaching series about the attributes of God? Dr. Malcolm Yarnell serves as Research Professor of Theology at SWBTS and as Teaching Pastor at Lakeside Baptist Church in Granbury, TX, among other things. He's also written or contributed to many theology books – his latest project is a three-part series entitled “Theology for Every Person” and the first book has just been released, which focuses on the doctrine of God. To learn more about Dr. Yarnell, go to: https://www.malcolmyarnell.com/ MORE ABOUT THE BOOK: Knowing, loving, and worshiping God is the call and privilege of every disciple of Jesus. Because all Christians are part of his royal priesthood, theology is not just for those teaching in the academy or serving in ministry vocations. Theologian and author, Malcolm B. Yarnell, writes in his new book, God (B&H Publishing Group, March 5), “The first theologian to argue that the Bible should be in every person's language also argued theology is not merely for professional scholars. I agree with Erasmus of Rotterdam: Scripture is for everyone, so theology is for everyone.” Theology proper centers on God, exploring his existence, his divine nature, his Persons, and his attributes. In God, Yarnell shares an overview of these truths in the doctrine of God as well as other great truths in the doctrine of divine revelation. “You are not simply setting out on a journey toward deeper knowledge,” says Yarnell. “If theological study only results in knowing abstract truths about God, then we have not done theology well. Right theology invariably leads to right living and right worship, and this is our ultimate goal in these books and in this life.” God is the first volume of a three-part series entitled Theology for Every Person. The other volumes will include God's Word to the World, which considers God in Christ and his works of creation, humanity, and redemption, and God's Work in the World, which explores God the Holy Spirit and the divine works of salvation, the church, and the end. “This series is intended to help equip every Christian with their God-given call to serve God as a theologian,” writes Yarnell. “In other words, it is for you as a follower of Christ Jesus, whatever the other roles you fulfill in life.”

On this episode of Polemics Report, JD discusses the awesome petition to make Malcolm Yarnell resign from Southwestern Seminary under the weight of his own words. Then, he skewers SEBTS president, Danny Akin, and demonstrates that Akin is a liar and exposes him as intentionally dishonest.
