Discover why you don't really need a complex survey tool Understand what is the principle of “closing the loop” and how can it help you Learn how you can avoid survey fatigue and ensure you get high-quality answers at a lesser cost Resources/Links: To learn more about what you can put in your survey to create impact, click here: surveyconversations.com/MTI Summary Do you want to deliver surveys that create an impact and push your audience to say YES? To ensure that your survey creates an impact not only on your business but also on your audience, it is important to get clear of your actions and make sure your audience feels wanted through three important things. You can't just ignore or assume. Dr. Matt Champagne is a scientist, author, and serial entrepreneur. He was named Technology Visionary by SURVEY Magazine for his pioneering work merging psychology and technology to create unique customer feedback solutions. Listen to Matt's expert insights on how you can maximize the potential and impact of your surveys through the secret psychological levers that get you that YES with less stress. Check out these episode highlights: 01:33 - Matt's ideal client: An ideal client comes from many industries, but typically, it's a small business owner, or it's a head of a larger organization or department, but they have a survey. It's an important survey. 02:13 - The problem he helps solve: It's three problems. I always tell folks, I saw three problems which are the problems of surveys. One is that you haven't generated a lot of participation. 04:00 - Clients' common mistakes before consulting Matt: They'll like to try to give incentives that don't solve the problem. They'll try to go to a more complex survey tool, which just adds complexity. 05:27 - Matt's Valuable Free Action (VFA): We talked about the nine principles of feedback. But if I had to pick one of those principles that you could do quickly, and for free, it would be principle five, which is called, "closing the loop". And this rests on the psychology that people only want three things. 07:12 - Matt's Valuable Free Resource (VFR): To learn more about what you can put in your survey to create impact, click here: surveyconversations.com/MTI 07:50 - Q: How do AI and ChatGPT intersect with surveys? A: My prediction is it's going to be a huge mess to start. Today, I am interviewing Matt Champagne, PhD. We're discussing client and prospect surveys and the pioneering research that he's done over 25 years on maximizing the uses of customer feedback to grow your business and your profits. We're sharing ideas and ways to use surveys in your business in more ways than you've probably considered. Using them to become more in tune with your ideal client's needs so you can help them in bigger ways and be able to capture their attention with your communications. I took copious notes and I'm sure you will too. Enjoy. Dr. Matt Champagne shares: And when we got to the end of the period and stuff, we got all this email from these travel agents. Where's the survey? When is the next survey coming? And they're like - how strange is that people asking for the survey? When we asked them later, would you like to do this again? 97% of the audience said - “Yes, send me another survey”. And we asked them why. They said, because I made a difference. I made an impact on the cruise line industry. I felt like my voice was heard, what I said made a difference. And I'm thinking to myself, what you did was go online and click a button and hit submit. That's what you, in reality, that's what you did. You went and you typed in a form and you click the button. But in their minds, the psychology behind it is they felt like they were helping the cruise line industry - make decisions on how to run the protocols and how to get people back onto cruises. It just felt that close. That's the power when you do surveys correctly, closing the loop and sharing the results and continuing the conversation… For 28 years, Dr. Champagne has been a researcher, university professor, and serial entrepreneur. He was named “Technology Visionary” by SURVEY Magazine for his pioneering work merging psychology and technology to create never-before-seen customer feedback solutions. What You'll Learn From This Episode:Influence people with the right psychologyImportance of building long-term relationships with customersWhy you need to change your old 'tactics'Related Links and Resources:I will give two valuable resources; if you go to the library and check out Dr. Robert Cialdini's book 'Influence' and read it cover to cover, you will find that the tactics that have been taught are not being taught properly. You will be ahead of the game if you take Dr. Cialdini's advice. If you go to www.matthewchampagne.com/sbs and if you go to that link, there's a direct download for the infographic that list out the 9 psychological principles upon which all of these are being based. I want you to read that and see if that resonates with you. Summary:For 28 years, Dr. Matt Champagne has been a researcher, university professor, and serial entrepreneur. He was named “Technology Visionary” by SURVEY Magazine for his pioneering work merging psychology and technology to predict customer behavior. When not teaching, Matt can be found on-stage playing keyboard in his rock band. Here are the highlights of this episode:Matt's motto is "keep your customers forever" and if that resonates with you, you'd probably be an ideal client for him. But he also helps those who sell their products or services to a live audience whether it's webinar or on stage. He knows that some feel like their tactics, formulas, or the hacks don't work like they used to, and Matt tells us that there's a psychological reason behind that. People buy from others that they trust. For salespeople, they try to build relationships along the way. But when you're trying to sell on a webinar for 35 minutes and try to convince the audience to trust you, it's just not enough. What you need to do is extend that trust runway through psychology. You should start asking people attending the webinar before the event, and then share the answers to them. And then, we ask the right questions in the right way during the event. And those who don't buy, we ask them after the event. This is like extending relationship building. You don't want to have that 'icky' feeling when you try to present and reach out to customers. Some tries hit the audience with all those influence tactics just to close the sale immediately but most of these audience would want to build a long-term relationship. He then stated "Do you want to be that person who uses just the tactics?" Matt's Valuable Free Action (VFA): If you can step back from the digital world and try to talk to them (audience) as if they're in front of you, would you treat them in that way? How would they like to be sold to? Think of what you would like to say in order to establish a relationship and familiarity with them. So, when you start thinking of that person being in the room, it totally changes the way you deliver on webinar. Ask yourself "How would you want to be sold to or how would you sell to a friend?"

Global Product Management Talk is pleased to bring you the next episode of... The Everyday Innovator with host Chad McAllister, PhD. The podcast is all about helping people involved in innovation and managing products become more successful, grow their careers, and STANDOUT from their peers. About the Episode: Many product managers and product marketers are using surveys incorrectly. We like surveys because they are relatively quick and inexpensive compared to other tools, such as customer interviews. While they can help us confirm what we think are the needs of customers and provide customer experience information, they are not something most customers look forward to participating in. My guest has a different experience. He creates surveys that not only have insanely high response rates but that actually create more loyal customers. Imagine that–surveys as a tool to make loyal customers. He is Matt Champagne, researcher, university professor, author, serial entrepreneur, and most importantly a survey and feedback expert. He has implemented systems in more than 600 organizations to drastically improve customer retention, learning, and performance. We discuss his 9 Principles of Customer Feedback. Having a ‘satisfied’ customer isn’t enough these days. How many people switch phone and TV plans every year or two to get the better deal, regardless of how satisfied they are? What you need to do is create ‘lifers,’ and one of the best ways to do that is through surveys. Yes, I said surveys. But just ‘asking’ isn’t enough. Today’s guest, Dr. Matt Champagne, is an industrial organizational psychologist. He has been helping businesses create better surveys for over a decade. And according to him, most of us have been doing it very wrong. Discover: The one thing you can do to make your surveys matter to customers How to ask the right questions to get the answers you actually need 3 of the biggest mistakes businesses make when creating surveys Why the ‘autopsy approach’ should be left for dead If you’re a business owner who wants to create life-long fans instead of satisfied customers, you don’t want to miss this episode with Matt Champagne, Ph. D.   KEY POINTS At 4:00 – Matt talks about what the ‘autopsy approach’ is, and the biggest mistakes businesses make when creating surveys. At 8:00 – Matt explains his principles of psychology, and shows how social media would fail if we treated it like we treat our surveys. At 11:00 – According to Matt, surveys are key to earning lifelong customers, and he explains the why and how. He also explains why ‘asking’ is the complete wrong approach. At 18:00 – Matt explains why he doesn’t use the ‘satisfied customer’ approach, and the surprising way to make your customers happy through surveys. At 22:00 – Matt sums up what makes a great survey, and the short list of what you need to do to create it.

#240 How to Promote Your Products

Last week we discussed packaging your passion – turning your wisdom and experience into a knowledge product. We covered the 3 converging marketplace forces that make that possible. This week, we'll assume you've identified your passion and decided how to package it. So, how do you sell it? How do your promote your product? Anyone with a good product can promote it – by mastering a specific method of persuasive communication. Copywriting. Today we'll give you a basic framework for that, plus some cool cheat sheets you can use right away. That, plus we SOLVE the “Instagram Problem”, and provide you with a secret backdoor to the Copywriting Academy LIVE conference… a $5,000 conference you can attend for FREE. AND… the return of LISTENER QUESTIONS! Click here to download or listen to this episode now. Spiritual Foundations Are you in a “valley” in your life? Are you lonely? Depressed? Afraid? Maybe it's a minor valley – a day where you seem to be slightly off schedule and unproductive, ineffective, and uninspired. Maybe it's more serious: an argument with your spouse, a problem with a child who has gone astray, or you've just lost your job. Or maybe it's worse: you or someone you love received a devastating medical diagnosis. Someone close to you may have died or been horribly injured. These are all valleys – and all can lead to hopelessness and the fear of facing the valley alone. There's even a song about it, written by Woody Guthrie: You gotta walk that lonesome valley, You gotta walk it by yourself, Nobody here can walk it for you, You gotta walk it by yourself. This is actually a Christian song, full of references to Biblical heroes. It's well-written. It's catchy. And it is 100% wrong. Jesus is our Great and Good Shepherd, and He promises every believer that he will “never leave you nor forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5-6). He said, “I will be with you always.” (Matthew 28:20) You are never alone. You don't walk ANY valley by yourself – not even the darkest one. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.” Psalm 23:4 Notice it's the valley of the SHADOW of death. Not death itself. For Christians, there is no such thing as death. We go on. We transition. We are resurrected – but it's even better than that. We are placed into bodies and lives BETTER than any we EVER have in this present age. Jesus walked the valley of death so we wouldn't have to. Then he snatched the victory from death, rose again, and handed us back the keys of the kingdom. It's worth noting that up until this point in the 23rd Psalm. God is LEADING us… and then suddenly we WALK into the valley of the SHADOW of death. But even though walking into the FEAR of death may be our choice… or perhaps we even contributed to the DANGER TO OURSELVES by smoking, driving drunk, cheating in a marriage – or whatever… Jesus is not there to WHACK us with his Shepherd's staff and say “I TOLD you so!” But see how Jesus, our good shepherd, watches over and delivers us even though we walk—not by His leading—into the valley of the shadow of death. He is still with you in the valley. It's NOT a lonesome valley. You DON'T have to walk it by yourself. Somebody else DID walk it for you. His name is Jesus. Tip Of The Week Let's solve the Instagram Problem. Problem: you want to post to Instagram from your computer, but you can't. You have to do it from your phone. Problem: you want to schedule your Instagram posts ahead of time, but you can't… unless you use an app that runs on your phone all the time. Grum to the rescue. Scheduling your Instagram posts for a whole week is easy. Upload photos from your computer and they will be published in your Instagram account on the required day and at the right time For your convenience Grum lets you set up hashtags, emojis and there's a calendar for your posts. Post your content to as many accounts as you need at the same time. No need to log in and out of the Instagram app to switch accounts! Feature Segment: Promote Your Product Last time, in episode 239… 3 Converging Forces That Make “Idea Businesses” Possible Global Networks Instant Commerce Systems Digital Distribution These 3 converging forces make it possible to take your life's passion and turn that passion into a book, a product, or a business. We gave you a method for determining WHAT to package into a product. So if you need that, go back and listen to episode 239. Now, this is where people get STUCK. “How do I make a product?” “I don't have a video studio/camera/produce/face.” “I'm shy.” “I can't write, or I hate writing.” The “how” to make the product is NOT THE MAIN ISSUE. It's a detail. People get stuck, but it's easy to overcome. This is all a smokescreen for the REAL problem. The REAL problem is: we don't like to sell. GET OVER YOUR INNER CONFLICTS Your product is good. Business only works when both sides prosper. The way to sell without manipulation: the P.A.S.T.O,R, framework. P – Person, Problem, Pain A – Amplify, Aspiration S – Story, Struggle, Solution, System T – Transformation, Testimonials O – Objections, Offer R – Reverse the Risk, Raise the value, Request a Response We have a free video training series on this which you can access at this link. Next week we will dive deep into how you can Prosper With Purpose. What's the PURPOSE behind all this prospering? How can you prosper and feel positive about it? Listener Questions This week we bring back listener questions. We have questions from: Kevin Lageer asks how do you go about finding your passion when there's nothing you feel passionate about. Julie wants to know how to get this free book about LinkedIn marketing from John Nemo. Tyrone Barton from Alabama says he loves the show – and has some suggestions for us. Matt Champagne  takes issue with something Ray said a few episodes back. How To Help Subscribe to the show through iTunes and give us a rating and review. Make sure you put your real name and website in the text of the review itself. We will mention you on this show. We are also on Stitcher.com, so if you prefer Stitcher, please subscribe there. Final Thought My prayer for you is that you will see more and more that God is doing exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us. And that power is the Spirit of God Himself! Live life fully alive, refuse to suffer, go forth and prosper with purpose! Do you have any lingering questions about how to Package Your Passion, or how to Promote Your Product? Any questions you'd like to make SURE we include in out next episode, entitled ‘Prosper With Purpose'?
