Today we are joined with the father of e-sports Walter Day! You may have been introduced to Walter many years ago through the popular Netflix documentary The King Of Kong and he is back as the main focus in a heartwarming new film titled Arcades & Love Songs. There is a brief moment in The King Of Kong showing Walter playing his guitar and saying he was going to quit the gaming industry and become a musician. That stuck with the documentary team and many years later they decided to take a deeper look into what he meant by that and ended up unexpectedly capturing the most beautiful journey. Walter began hearing original songs in his head after getting his heart broken in 1985, and since then he has wrote hundreds of songs about this woman that never saw the light of day. In this film not only does he reunite with her to tell her that, but at the age of 70 embarks on a career in music, records an album, and through the inspiration of his new appreciation for Taylor Swift ends up playing his very first gig. I can't say enough about how wonderful this documentary is. It will leave you inspired, and may even bring a lil tear to your eye. Was amazing to have this chat as well with Walter and get some extra layers and context on his beautiful journey. Arcades & Love Songs: The Ballad of Walter Day is currently playing in select theatres, but be sure to check out their website https://www.arcadesandlovesongs.com/ and follow them on their socials for updates and details on future releases.

On this episode, we're diving into a story that blends nostalgia, music, and the origins of esports — a follow-up to one of the most beloved documentaries in gaming history. I'm talking about Arcades & Love Songs: The Ballad of Walter Day.This new film is the feature directorial debut from Oscar-winning producer Ed Cunningham — best known for Undefeated and The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters. If you're a fan of the latter, you're in for a real treat, because this film brings us back into the world of Walter Day — the iconic star of The King of Kong, and the man often credited as the father of esports. Now 74, Walter is taking center stage once again in this musical documentary that follows his legal battle to protect his legacy, all while chasing a long-held dream: recording and performing the rock-opera love songs that have been echoing in his mind since his heart was broken back in the golden days of the arcade. This episode features not one but two great interviews — first with Ed Cunningham, the director of Arcades & Love Songs, and then with the legend himself, Walter Day. We'll talk about everything from the making of the film, to Walter's unique musical vision, to what this journey has meant for him personally. So whether you're a longtime fan of The King of Kong, a lover of indie film, or just curious about this one-of-a-kind story, stick around — you won't want to miss this.

Many people know the basic history of NASCAR and how it came from moonshiners of the Prohibition Era, but what will shock you is that Atlanta could have been the home of NASCAR and the two men that prevented that from happening were two of Atlanta biggest names from history - a mayor and a journalist.   Want to support this podcast? We also ask Walter for his official position on the ongoing furore surrounding Billy Mitchell's Donkey Kong high-scores.

We review the Now Streaming film, MAN vs SNAKE: The Long and Twisted Tale of Nibbler, the inspirational and outrageous true story of one man's quest for the highest video game score ever. MAN vs. SNAKE is the Directorial debut by Editors Tim Kinzy, Andrew Seklir (Battlestar Gallactica: Razor). Tim McVey broke the billion dollar mark getting the highest video game score ever back in 1983 when he scored big on Nibbler, a lessor celebrated game under the shadow of the rockstars of the video arcades in the 80s, Donkey Kong and Pac Man. After decades, some questions about the validity of his record and a new challenger, Tim goes for it, again. He's an unlikely leading man who becomes the hero you find yourself rooting for in this delightful gem of a documentary. Fans of King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters, look out for some familiar faces to appear, Billy Mitchell, Walter Day and more of the folks from the wonderful world of video arcade games. 9/10

They thought he was gone, but they were wrong. Jack the Ripper is loose in London once more. Scotland Yard’s Murder Squad faces the most shocking case of its existence, in the extraordinary new historical thriller from the author of the acclaimed national bestsellers The Yard and The Black Country. London, 1890. A small group of the city’s elite, fed up with the murder rate, have made it their business to capture violent criminals and mete out their own terrible brand of retribution. Now they are taking it a step further: They have arranged for four murderers to escape from prison, and into the group’s hands. But the plan goes wrong. The killers elude them, and now it is up to Walter Day, Nevil Hammersmith, and the rest of Scotland Yard’s Murder Squad to hunt the convicts down before they can resume their bloody spree. But the Murder Squad may already be too late. The killers have retribution in mind, and one of them is heading straight toward a member of the Murder Squad, and his family. And that isn’t even the worst of it. During the escape, one of the killers has stumbled upon the location of another notorious murderer, one thought gone for good, but who is now prepared to join forces with them.
