In this episode, we embark on a captivating journey through the Mediterranean with an ordinary man, Hensel, whose life takes an unexpected turn. Set against the backdrop of a serene cruise, we delve into the complexities of identity and deception. In this story, Hensel finds himself at a crossroads—he feels constrained by his mundane life as an assistant county assessor, yet the allure of adventure stirs something deep within him. The darkness of the night seems to echo this internal struggle, as he encounters the enchanting Maria Novella, a woman whose appearance brings both beauty and danger into his life.Through the dialogue shared between Hensel and Maria, we explore themes of perception, as the two characters uncover how appearances can be misleading. Hensel grapples with the desire to escape his ordinary existence and to embody the persona that Maria believes him to be—an importer of rare gems. This desire sets the stage for a series of events that lead him on an exhilarating chase through the shadows of both the cruise and his own reality. As the plot thickens, the audience is drawn into a tense navigation of trust and betrayal, with Hensel stepping further into the role he never anticipated. As we follow Hensel on his quest, we witness how his initial act of kindness—to protect Maria's family heirloom—spirals into a web of intrigue and peril. The brooch, imbued with personal significance, becomes the focal point that draws out hidden motivations and unravels the true nature of the characters surrounding him, particularly the sinister Mr. Brilliant and the enigmatic Pietro. The storytelling takes a darker spin, forcing Hensel to confront not only the dangers posed by those around him but also the evolving definition of what it means to be an 'ordinary man' in extraordinary circumstances. The narrative builds to an intense climax, where Hensel must summon his courage and resourcefulness to navigate threats that emerge from unexpected places. As the police become involved, and Maria's true intentions are revealed, Hensel's world is thrown into chaos. The resolution beckons a reflection on the choices we make and the identities we construct, as our protagonist strives not only to reclaim a precious item for Maria but also to rescue himself from the clutches of deception.Through 'An Ordinary Man,' I invite you to explore the thin line between reality and appearance, and the lengths one might go to escape the constraints of their own life. This episode serves as a reminder that beneath the surface of ordinary beings lie complex stories full of ambition, danger, and ultimately, self-discovery. Join me as we delve into the richness of the human experience, embracing the notion that sometimes, the most unexpected journeys arise from our everyday lives.

The corrupt Fulton County DA who is attempting to prosecute Trump now finds herself on trial! Fani Willis faces not only disqualification from the case but now even criminal charges and disbarment! Highlights: “A number of witnesses, including Wade's former attorney, an attorney that actually works in the same office as Wade, are all coming forward to testify that Willis and Wade started having an affair long before Fani Willis appointed him as special prosecutor.” “According to Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz, if they are caught lying over when the affair began, disqualification from this sham case and disbarment are just the beginning of their troubles. In November I went on my annual solo trip, a cruise through Spain, France and Italy - and it was AMAZING. The food in Barcelona was SO good, Cannes and Provence were so pretty, and I just adored everything about my 3 days in Rome! The cruise itself was with Norwegian Cruise Lines and it was the ultimate luxury. It's easily the most beautiful ship I've been on. What I found really interesting though was the little lessons I picked up while on the cruise ship - all about marketing and sales! In the 442nd episode of the "Join Us in France" podcast, host Annie Sargent engages guest Helen Talley-McRae in a discussion about her Mediterranean cruise experience. The cruise, offered by Viking Ocean Cruises, embarked from Rome and concluded in Tarragona, Spain, stopping at French ports such as Marseille and Sète. Helen selected this journey to celebrate a milestone birthday after her 2020 travel plans were postponed due to the pandemic. Helen highlights both pros and cons of cruising. Positives include the ability to visit several locations quickly, simplified logistics, excellent onboard service and facilities, and an all-inclusive package. Drawbacks, however, encompass substantial upfront costs, superficial visits due to limited shore time, potential dependence on organized excursions, occasionally disappointing food quality, and unexpected itinerary changes due to weather. The journey included stops at numerous locations, with Sète, Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, Les Baux-de-Provence, and Monaco emerging as Helen's favorites. In Sète, she enjoyed a local guided tour and the chance to interact with locals. Saint-Rémy-de-Provence and Les Baux-de-Provence captivated her with their rich history and local markets, while Monaco surprised her with its traditional old town, contrasting with the known glamour of Monte Carlo. Despite some limitations, such as an industrial port at Marseille and missing out on certain attractions due to time constraints, Helen appreciated the overall experience and expressed interest in future river cruises. She believes this type of cruise is ideal for individuals desiring a resort-style vacation or those who might be visiting Europe for the first time. After her memorable trip, Helen is excited about her upcoming visit to family in Paris and Brittany.

When I was talking to Megan, I asked her to teach me the appropriate terminology for adoption, so I would know the most respectful way to talk about it. She explained terms to use to be most sensitive:Use the phrase, “placed for adoption” not “give up for adoption.”For the parents placing the child for adoption:Birth mom, first mom or bio mom (*or parent or dad/father) don’t use the term “real” mom/ “real” dadFor the parents adopting the child:Adoptive parent, mom, dadMegan’s story as an adoptive mom:The birth mom of Megan’s baby girl was very, very young and was raped by a much older man. She was so young, she didn’t know what was going on and didn’t even know she was pregnant until 4 days before giving birth. When she did give birth, she delivered the baby at home all by herself at night. She endured a lot of trauma and for these reasons she wanted a closed adoption. Megan completely understands, supports her in that, and hopes that in coming years she can meet her and tell her how much she loves her.Even before Megan’s marriage, she had in her heart that she would someday adopt a baby. After having 4 sons of her own, she had an experience on a school trip to Brazil with one of her sons that ignited the desire to adopt. For weeks she had the song, “Because I Have Been Given Much” going through her head until they made the decision to jump into the adoption process. There are so many different options for how to adopt, internationally, domestically, through an agency, without an agency. Megan and her husband decided on a private agency in the United States and chose to have a domestic adoption.Adoption is very expensive. Just to get started with an agency, no guarantees you will get a baby, is about $22,000. Some expenses you pay at the time of the adoption are the birth mother’s hospital bills (some insurances pay for part of this), the birth mom’s living expenses post partum and during the pregnancy. It all depends on the birth mom and her circumstances. From the agency Megan used, the total expenses could be between $35,000- $60,000 total. The average waiting time for this agency was 6 months. Some adoption processes can take years to go through. There is a lot of paperwork, background checks and a home study before a child can be placed in your home. Her youngest son was 4 years old when they got started and wanted to add in this adoptive child before the age gap got too big. Most adoptions now are open adoptions. Whether than means That can mean a yearly letter or pictures or visiting in person. Most adoptions are more letter based. When the baby is ready to be placed, usually you get an email. In this case, there was very little notice, so Megan received a text to check her email immediately and to email them back right away if they were interested. The baby was ready the next day! Megan’s parents had just come over for dinner when she found out they needed to rush off to get their baby! Megan and her husband had to ran off to the airport an hour later! The adoption ended up being out of state, so they needed to stay in that state until the paperwork had been signed and processed. They were gone for nearly 2 weeks waiting for everything to be finished. It was a long time to be away from their other 4 kids and were grateful for family to help out back at home.Different states take different amounts of time for adoptions to be legally finalized. It took even longer in Megan’s case because of the pandemic and then because of the court case. The trial was delayed because of the pandemic, so they waited 15 months for their adoption to be finalized.Helpful and Happy Questions!I ask these questions to our guests to get to know them better and to tie our podcast into the rest of our blog which houses our podcast archives and covers family topics such as: family recipes, travel tips and home & family life. What is your favorite food or meal?Authentic Mexican Food, especially carne asadaWhat was your favorite trip?Taking a Mediterranean Cruise!! Do you have a home or family hack for us?As soon as your kids are done taking a bath, spend just a minute spraying town and wiping out the tub. This way it’s always clean and you don’t have to scrub away dirt and grime later. Brilliant!!

Over the past several weeks, you've had an opportunity to see behind the scenes and get to know us a little bit. Today, is a special episode where we go deeper behind the scenes and give you an opportunity to know a little bit more about Di and her travel adventures. Chris interviews Di about her early childhood travel experience. Some of her favorite vacation spots, and many surprises along the way. We also discuss some of Di’s top 3 places to go, where she would like to go, and great family adventures. We talk about restaurants, excursions, and more. We hope you enjoy this little peek into Di’s travel history and what she loves the most about it. Show Notes [03:08] We've been married for 11 years. [03:38] Di's Father worked for an airline, and she started traveling at a very young age. [04:27] Di grew up in Atlanta. One of her favorite travel memories was a station wagon trip to Disney World. Her family and some other family friends formed a caravan and headed to Disney World. [05:26] Somebody had strapped a camping potty on the roof. It flew off the top and someone had to pull over and pick it up on the side of the road. [07:27] Her family flew standby a lot. They had to dress up and wait for their name to be called. They also got to fly first class. [08:27] They had been waiting all day for a flight. Their name never got called, and they were invited to stay in the pilots lounge. They got to sleep on big leather recliners. [10:11] Di has been traveling since she was an infant. [10:58] Di loved horses as a child. At least twice she got to go to the Mayan Dude Ranch in Texas. [12:26] This was an all inclusive resort, where you got to ride trail horses all the time. They also had breakfast wagon trains where breakfast would be at the river. There was tubing and a pool. There were also activities geared for adults. [15:57] The cabins also had bunks that were like an old mine. It was a kid's wild west dream. [17:21] Di loves Ocean Isle Beach in North Carolina. [18:52] Her number one vacation would be the Mediterranean Cruise. We went on the Royal Caribbean with Chris's sister and brother-in-law. France and Rome were beautiful. [21:05] Number two was the London, Paris, Scotland trip we just talked about. [22:24] Number three was Vegas. We never run out of things to do in Vegas. There are so many things happening and a lot of outside the box things to do there too. [24:36] Di's favorite family trip with the kids was our California trip. We went to Universal Studios, Sea World, the NBC backlot tour and the Friends set, and we ate at Roscoe's. We also liked In & Out Burger and an unexpected trip to Mexico. [26:54] We went into Tijuana and accidentally kept going South to get great seafood. We didn't have phone service or GPS. Crossing over the border was an experience. We were happy to get back into the US. [31:38] The kids loved LA. [31:54] Di wants to go to Bora Bora. Island, sun, clear water, a hut over the water, Bora Bora sounds awesome. [33:44] Australia is number two for places that Di wants to go. [35:06] Number three is Hawaii. [36:41] Di's top travel peeve is people who don't know how to board a plane. [37:25] Di's favorite restaurants that we've been to are Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steakhouse and Rosie's Cantina in Huntsville, AL. [39:36] The offroading Jeep Tour in the Dominican Republic with the kids was Di's favorite excursion. You ride an open bus, then ride through sand. Then you get to jump into a crystal clear underwater spring. Then we rode out to a beautiful beach. We were covered from head to toe in mud and had a blast. There are many times in my life when I look at what someone else is doing with their career and am in awe of the skills that they use. Meghann Clements is one of these people for me. Meghann has been with Scentsy since it opened in Canada in October of 2009. She was able to quit her job as a social worker with the Government of Alberta after only 1 year and has been working in her business full time since then. She reached Superstar Director, the top level of the company after only 23 months. In 2013 she received the Shining Star award which is the most prestigious consultant nominated award in the company at the National conference in Indianapolis. Her husband was able to retire from law after 3 years and worked with her full time for 3 years. Currently she has the largest business in Canada with over 4,400 consultants in her organization. She also has a large global business with consultants from Europe, USA, Mexico, Australia and New Zealand. She also travels 1-2 times a year to Australia and New Zealand to train and connect with her consultants there. Who wouldn't love that!?! She has earned 13 free trips all over the world to places like Greece, Africa, Disneyworld, a Mediterranean Cruise, New York City, Dominican Republic, Mexico and Switzerland to name a few. If that doesn't make her sound busy enough she is also the Mom of 3 amazing children, 1 girl and 2 boys. The family loves athletics and fitness and Meghann doesn't start her weekday without joining a session at her favorite place Orange Theory Fitness in Okotoks Alberta.
