"I'm not afraid. It's the Wizard who should be afraid of me." We watched "Wicked" with our good Judy, Mitchell Anderson, and it was just as good as the first time we watched it! We knew we wanted to review this episode here on our show, and we thought there's no time like the present. Here we are, about halfway between the release of "Wicked" and her upcoming sequel, "Wicked: For Good," so we thought we'd take a look at what makes this movie work so darn well. Obviously, the casting of Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande is on point, but the supporting cast - Jonathan Bailey, Michelle Yeoh, Bowen Yang, and company - are all so wonderful, especially under the direction of Jon M. Chu. Allowing so many of them to ad-lib and keeping those gems in the final cut is a genius stroke! We promise to keep the singing to a minimum, but whether we keep that promise is to be seen. Yes, we have some hot takes on the movie itself, but we talk about what's to come in "For Good,” our predictions on how that half of the story will be presented, as well as a couple of fun facts we dug up in our research. We may not be true theater gays at heart, but needless to say, we're "Wicked" gays now, and we will be acting as such. Alert your local all-night diner - we're coming in at 11 p.m. and causing an absolute scene like it's opening night of our high school musical! They also discuss the guests Dennis would love to get on the show like author and birdwatcher Christian Cooper and American Idol alum David Archuleta. Other topics include: the CD of music Dennis made in the 1990s, a summer trip to rehab, the world's loneliest voicemail inbox, turning 60 and the Xanadu luncheon to end all Xanadu luncheons.

"What is it you can't face?" We watched "The Sound of Music" from 1965 with our friend Mitchell Anderson and we could never answer to a whistle! Whether you grew up in a "The Sound of Music" house, a "Mary Poppins" house, or both we all grew up with a song in our hearts thanks to the legendary, the one and only Dame Julie Andrews. Even if you (sadly) didn't come up watching this movie you most likely know ALL the songs - they're built into the fabric of our culture whether you like it or not. Was "Sixteen Going on Seventeen" in a shampoo commercial? Why exactly is "My Favorite Things" now suddently a Christmas song? Listen, theres a reason pop stars are giving up residuals to include samples of these songs - the music slaps and it will just make your music better (we're looking at you Gwen Stafani and Ariana Grande).  Aside from Julie Andrews, AND the iconic music we are also here to talk about one miss Eleanor Parker as The Baroness. While Julie is serving humble beginnings and dresses evern the poor don't want, Eleanor Parker invented glamour and is forever the Queen of looks. Aboslutely no notes. This movie may be pushing three hours, but we don't care - it flies by. The last act might be a little uncomfortable to get through for modern audiences and we get it, but Christopher Plummer sees that flag hanging above his door, yanks it down and rips it to shreds with his bare hands. Icon.  Thanks for listening and don't forget to subscribe, rate and review us on Apple Podcasts! www.patreon.com/moviesthatmadeusgay Facebook/Instagram: @moviesthatmadeusgay X (Twitter): @MTMUGPod Scott Youngbauer: X (Twitter) @oscarscott / Instagram @scottyoungballer Peter Lozano: X (Twitter)/Instagram @peterlasagna

Dennis is joined via Zoom by actor-singer-writer-restaurantuer Mitchell Anderson to discuss his new autobiographical play You Better Call Your Mother, which takes its title from something a producer said to him backstage after he came out publicly onstage at the 1996 GLAAD Media Awards. This was while he was playing a gay character on the hit TV series Party of Five and made Mitchell one of the first--if not the first--leading man types to come out as gay. It was a huge deal and Mitchell talks about what led him to make that decision, the phone call he made to his mother afterward and the personal and professional fallout from the decision. He also talks about leaving Los Angeles a few years later and moving to Atlanta to be with the man who would eventually become his husband, Richie Arpino. Mitchell also talks about his second career as the chef and the owner of a pair of restaurants in Atlanta called MetroFresh and why he loves it. Other topics include: returning to acting after 18 years in the digital series After Forever, the strangest place he's ever been recognized, how a pair of overalls led him to quit Juilliard, the voicemail he played more over and over and the fact that he gets more fan mail for Jaws:The Revenge than for any other project he's done. www.highwaysperformance.org

All is not how it seems though and we dip into some cliche territory pretty quick but the visuals and direction in this movie are fantastic!
