At Talk Birdie To Me, we have all been fans of the Monday Q Twitter page (here) for a long time, it's a ripper, if you're not following it then give yourself an uppercut and do it immediately. The guy who created it is Ryan French, and after Nick and Mark have consistently been referring to the page on the pod, we decided to get Ryan on the show for a yak, and it was a lot of fun.We started, well at the start. Why did Ryan start the page, and how did it come about. He tells us about his 'wake-up' moment as a college golfer, junior golfer, when he realised how many incredible players there were and that he would't be a pro.Nick and Mark talk about how they often were Monday Qualifiers and how important it was.The chat goes in an unexpected direction when Ryan's Basset Hound decides that he would like to be part of the chat, we have a look and he is adorable.Back to the page. Mark asks Ryan when he realised that he was onto something good, Ryan tells us about the moment in 2018 when he realised this could fly. And it involved an Australian golfer! And he tells us why his kids school day, on one occasion, took a (brief) backseat to the content on the page.Ryan tells us what he loves so much about the Monday Qualifier stories, moreso in many cases than the big names. He calls golf the 'most democratic sport in the world'.Mark asks Ryan about an amazing story to do with Mike Miller, a US golfer who played in last years Australian Open. The story of how this came about is fantastic, and Ryan tells the story. We ask Ryan about ridiculous 4-spot situations he has seen, and he tells a great story about an Australian golfer in Texas called Todd Balkin. And we wrap up with Ryan's 'Mona Lisa' story, the one that he just loves. It was not what we expected, but it was very funny!.A great chat with Ryan French, he's a ripper and we hope you enjoy the chat as much as we did. Don't forget to subscribe to Talk Birdie To Me, and of course to follow Monday Q on Twitter! We do the show from Titleist and FootJoy HQ thanks to our great partners:Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best. The first of May is just one day away! And that means the CJ CUP Byron Nelson is right around the corner. Damon and Eamon get you up to speed on a field that includes the World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler! How do Scottie and our guys feel about his game headed into a busy, three-week stretch for the two time Masters Champion? Tune in to find out! The guys also take a look at Jordan Spieth and discuss his recovery from a serious offseason wrist surgery and his road back to the top of the game. Just like Scheffler and Spieth, Bobby Massa is a Dallas native who will be in the field this week! We talk to the renowned amateur, who made it into the field this week via a Monday Qualifier and gained some serious street-cred after making it to the Quarterfinals of the 2024 U.S. Amateur. Not to mention, this tournament will be the last week that TPC Craig Ranch is in play before the course is renovated! David Pillsbury, CEO of 'INVITED', stops by to discuss the facelift for the course, and why it's important to update golf courses and keep them relevant to today's game. David Pillsbury (16:17) Bobby Massa (24:58)
Massive week in golf as always, so much to talk about. We kick off the show, unfortunately, by Mark singing happy birthday to the Shark. Just what Greg would have wanted....an out of tune birthday song. However after that Mark plays some audio of Brandel Chamblee talking about the discussions between the PGA and Trump this week. Leads to a chat about what it might mean for a unified game, and with Golf Australia CEO James Sutherland just having returned from Saudi Arabia, and a media conference scheduled by GA at LIV Adelaide this Thursday .... is there news on the horizon ? It does seem as though there may be, and we discuss what it may be about - and what we hope it is about. We have no idea, so we're just speculating.Nick says that he has heard a rumour the Australian Open's Women's tournament will be held in Western Australia which he's excited about. He also mentions the the 'pace of play' policy coming in from the LPGA.More LIV chat - the night tournament in Riyadh had no spectators and was, according to Nick and Mark, arguably LIV's worst event - and they're about to swing into their best event, LIV Adelaide.Mark reads out the comments tour pro Marcus Fraser said on ABC Radio about the Australian Open.Changes coming to the Monday Qualifier structure in some tournaments ....are Nick and Mark happy about this? Mark talks us through the remarkable performance of Will Chandler, the Monday Qualifier who beat Scottie Scheffler by 6. We discuss some of the great Monday Qualifier stories. And this inspires Nick's Top 5.Wolfpacker Greg calls on the hotline with a question about governments and their support of other sports, but not golf to the extent he feels could be provided.Plenty of feedback today to run through and during feedback Nick gives his tip for the Aussie he reckons might go all the way at Torrey Pines. We're checking our Betr app as we speak to suss the odds. Then a voicemail comes in from Jon with a fun question for Nick and Mark. We've had movement on the disaster that is the PING global intro music...thanks to a couple of wolfpackers. Watch this space. And Marks masterclass is inspired by Thomas Detry after his great performance in Scottsdale at the weekend. We're coming from Titleist and Footjoy HQ, and we're here thanks to our great partners:The watchMynumbers app, play smarter and use your data. Jake Knapp wins in Mexico! This is Jake's first career win on the PGA Tour. Jake has been playing professional golf since 2016. He has 3 other career wins under his belt on the PGA Tour Canada and now he can call himself a PGA Tour winner!!James Nicholas has a great start to the year in Kenya this past week on the DP World Tour. T42 finish puts points and cash in his pocket! Congrats James!Cooper Dossey finishes T20 on the Korn Ferry Tour this past week! Incredible start to the year for him as well. This is his best finish of the season so far and he looks to secure a PGA Tour card by the end of the season.Charlie Woods, at the age of 15, plays in a PGA Tour pre-qualifier event in Florida. Unfortunately his day did not go as planned. Charlie would finish at 18 over par and not advance to the Monday Qualifier this week.Capital One's The Match had its 9th version air on TNT last night. Rory McIlroy, Max Home, Lexi Thompson and Rose Zhang all played in a Skins Match raising money for charity. As we would expect from a "scripted" golf match, Rory takes home the win! These quite possibly are the least entertaining form of professional golf to ever air on tv. I applaud the PGA Tour for trying something new, but honestly they need to stop making these events at this point. For more checkout out these links:https://newtoyoucharity.org/https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCfCJNYhniRqWzq5o7vi-72Qhttps://www.instagram.com/buttercutspod/https://www.tiktok.com/@buttercutspod

As the guys #AlwaysEndWithFood, Alex is enjoying the simple Memorial Day BBQ, while Michael is putting bacon into his bread (52:45).
