David Krautter grew up flying at a small airport near Huntsville, Alabama named Moontown. He received his private pilot's license at 17.  He attended Georgia Tech in Atlanta and studied aerospace engineering.  David got into soaring in 2010 after he graduated, flying with the Mid Georgia Soaring Association. During that time he started competing and working on improving his cross country skills. David moved to California in 2018 and purchased a LS-6. He spent the last year completely refinishing and modifying the LS-6 with new winglets and other modifications. Two months after refinishing it he landed in Lake Tahoe during the Truckee Regional contest....David is here today to share his story and the events that led up to that crash. We greatly appreciate David's willingness to share his story so we all can learn from it.   Later on this episode Sergio The Soaring Master brings us another very informative segment about glider polars. All this and more now on episode 124 of Soaring the Sky!

Bside Incoming: Ziggy Zeitgeist For our 147th show, we are honoured to bring you the impeccable selections of Ziggy Zeitgeist. Boy were we excited to listen to what Ziggy would send us. Being both one of the leading names in the nu-soul/future-jazz scene as well as an avid record collector, we knew we would be in for a treat. He's the drummer for the Australian based band 30/70, who have released some creative, liquid smooth blends of jazz, modern funk, hip hop and soul on the likes of Rhythm Section and Moontown records. An absolute classic: 30/70 - The Strut https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6e4dp-D1FOo Now living in Berlin, he has pushed his sound in modern jazz via his band - Zeitgeist Freedom Energy Exchange, creating some truly stunning and intricate music. Their music has made fans out of Wayne Snow (who has featured on one of their albums) , Gilles Peterson, Bradley Zero, Kamaal Williams, Byron The Aquarius, Moxie and more. A personal favourite track - 'Big up' https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=Yzi3Mk2ULHY Be sure to also check out this journey of an album from him - 'Prayer For Peace', perfect for a chilling Sunday like today. https://zeitgeistfreedomenergyexchange.bandcamp.com/ After spending time with his father looking for records to play us, we are blessed to gain a treasured glimpse into what music influences his style with this Bside Podcast. Let us take you on a journey.  A journey back in time, to the year 1994 when Brendan had flowing lochs and was headbanging to his favorite 70’s metal bands, Pat had brown hair and was wearing his signature shell necklace, and Jordan actually had hair.  Wait!  It’s not the 90s it is Savor Lebanon.   The boys head up north to attend this once a year beer, wine, and food festival.   The DJ this year made us feel nostalgic for our youth as he turned out all the best and worst of the 90’s.  Indiana On Tap again hosts a great festival with great breweries represented.   We get to sit down with Erin Edds the owner/co-founder of Garden Party (crafted cocktails anyone), Allison Zook or Cardinal Spirits joins us to discuss their impressive line of craft spirits and liqueurs.  We had some of their coffee liqueur in a milk stout and it created heaven on earth.  We got to speak to Tell City about their triple boner and the Pour house their impressive tap room down south.   Tune into this episode for some hilarious antics and good-hearted fun.   Should brewing beer be a boy scout merit badge?  What is that burning sensation in Pat’s pants? Why are the guys giggling so much about the Boner?  What happens when 2 drunk guys show up with peach candy necklaces?   All these and many more questions will be answered for you on this episode of Blind Pig Confessions. The 3rd annual Pies and Pints has come and gone and once again left us wanting more. So many tasty brews and pies filled the room at the Ivy Tech Community College Culinary and Conference Center along with jhhugames and music from DJ Kyle Long.  Pauly G., Dougy Fresh, and Jordan enjoyed spent another fun evening meeting new beer friends and reminiscing with old friends.   Arts for Learning Development Director, Jennifer Collins, gives the ins and outs of this special event where all the proceeds go each year along with some “chocolatey” upcoming events.   Even though they hit their goal early on, the Pigs thought it would only be right to donate, on the behalf of Indy comedian, Jeremy Brown, an extra $500 since he decided to go to church instead of joining us for the evening. (They do take cash, Jeremy, and thank you in advance.) Beer and pinball extraordinaire, Round Town’s very own,  Mr. Eric Fear, chats about the so many fabulous brews and events coming up for Round Town.   The almost too young chef from Hops & Fire Pizza chats for a few and dishes out some of his killer pies, and as usual, the boys from Moontown (overall winners for the evening) join the Pigs for a few rounds of laughs and brew talk with their new Brew Master, Cody Peczkowski.   Tune in and then join us next year for the 4th Annual Indy Pies and Pints.     Shout outs in this week’s episode include:  Fountain Square Brewery;  Quack Daddy’s;  Black Circle; New Holland Brewery;  Next Hop Model;  Sinking Ship;  One Well Brewery;  Hot Box Pizza;  Brozinni Pizzeria;  Kevin Fertig;  and Upland Brewing Company

Tipsy at Tippy’s Pauly G. and Dougy Fresh get nutty (it will make sense when you listen) at the newly located Tippy’s in Winamac, IN.  Still serving their great, well known, pizza and wings, Tippy’s now has a full bar with a variety of domestic and craft brews on tap.  Co-hosting for the evening, and taking great photos as always, is Dougy’s crush, the beautiful Michelle Dickey.   Arriving first on the scene to scope the place out, Pauly was bit nervous when he wandered into a restaurant packed with tiny unicorns.  But all was soon well as the unicorns left to graze and a thirsty hoard of pizza and beer lovers soon packed the house.   Joining us for the evening was the fine folks of 10-56 Brewing of Knox, IN, Mike and Erica.  A couple new to the brewery scene and already making a noise in the craft beer society.  We’ve been hearing about their brews for some time now, so we were thrilled to have them join us and finally dig into a sampling of what they have to offer.. and we were glad we did.  Starting with a little monkey nut, which had us all wanting more, they pulled out the big guns as we were some of the lucky first to try their pizza beer creation.  That’s right . . . pizza beer . . . perfect for the occasion and we were floored at how well this worked.   A very busy and proud owner, Sheila, who wasn’t expecting quite the full house she had this evening, did find a little time to take a break and tell us a little about her friendly neighborhood bar and restaurant.   Also joining in the fun, the good friend of 10-56, and now friend of ours, Aaron of Copperhop, grabbed a mic to introduce us to his very cool craft beer trail business you will want to know more about, as well as a little of his background and love of craft beers.   Grab a brew, tune in, and then head on down to Tippy’s to see just what the fuss is all about.   Shout outs this week include:  Terre Haute Brewing, Briar Scratch Brewing, Evil Czech, Four Fathers, New Holland, Moontown, Stan and Maggie Czech and their unicorns, Noda Brewery, Kopacetic Brewing, Carlos Guzman and One Well, Quack Daddy, Crooked Ewe, 1205 Distillery, and Indiana Whiskey

(Author's blog link! Click it!) In this episode we talk about Rolling Darkness Revue (2015 poster above), Hellraiser  II, III and IV, Wishmaster, his books, and several other projects and stories from “behind the scenes” Hollywood. Over the years, Peter Atkins has been a screenwriter, author, occasional actor, musician, you name it. This episode was certainly a very personal favorite of mine so far in our 3 and a half years of activity, and I'm sure it will rank in the top 5 best episodes with a guest that we've done at the @Barkercast. Peter Atkins is an extremely interesting conversationalist and a real treat to have for a couple of hours. We are very happy with the time he spent patiently answering our questions and, like he says “shooting the shit” and we hope to have him again in the near future. Pete is a fantastic author and we urge you to find and read his books Morningstar, Big Thunder and Moontown, as well as his short stories that have been published in various anthologies. This episode is also being published on his birthday (November 2nd), so please be sure to comment with messages for  Pete and  we'll do our best in forwarding them to him, or send him comments on his blog. Some Show Notes follow: 1) The Rolling Darkness Revue started on October 31st 2004. The 2015 shows were last Oct 23/24 at the Missing Piece Theatre, Burbank CA. Go ahead and Like their page on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/RollingDarknessRevue The Rolling Darkness Revue  are Peter Atkins and Glen Hirshberg. Go check out http://glenhirshberg.com/site/ and http://peteratkins.blogspot.com/ 2) Pete's story “Children of Fire” was published in “Dread” Summer Special (1992). It features backstory vignettes for certain characters in Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth. Recommended. 3) Recently Peter Atkins was in the Leviathan documentary, narrating his experiences as screenwriter for Hellbound:  Hellraiser II, as well as other anecdotes and he recorded a new commentary track for Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth for the Arrow Hellraiser Scarlet Box Set. 4) Wishmaster (1997). Watch the trailer here. 5) Motorhead music video directed by Clive Barker:”Hellraiser” (Watch it on YouTube) 6) Wikipedia article on Alan Smithee. Hellraiser: Bloodline was a movie “without a director”. We're currently working on our YouTube  mini documentary about this troubled production. 7) The Naked Monster (2005) – Watch the trailer for this movie that's really and homage to and spoof of the “giant monster-on-the-loose” films of the 1950s.   web www.clivebarkercast.com iTunes (Leave a review!), Podomatic, XBOX Music Store, Tune-In Radio, Stitcher, Doubletwist, Blackberry and Pocketcast.
