We recorded this exciting panel on boutique hotels and resorts at the recent 2024 Midwest Real Estate Investor Conference. As the host of this podcast, Brian Hamrick doesn't often have the opportunity to discuss his own investments. But today he sits down with two of his partners to share how they've been applying the short-term rental model to recent acquisitions of a boutique hotel and several resorts, along with the challenges faced, and the strategies employed to find success. Jeremy Garcia and his wife Melanie own quite a few vacation rentals in Muskegon Michigan, and several years ago we partnered on building out an 8-unit boutique hotel in downtown Muskegon. We also acquired a 7-cabin, 3-house resort in North Muskegon with beautiful Lake Michigan frontage. And we've started our own short-term rental property management company called DreamStay – go to www.bookdreamstay.com Alex Jarbo lives in Asheville, North Carolina and is a writer on short-term rentals for Bigger Pockets. Several years ago, Alex was on the Rental Property Owner & Real Estate Investor podcast talking about his short-term rental A-frames. Brian and Alex kept in touch after recording that episode, and in 2022 Alex got an amazing resort under contract just outside of Asheville with six cabins and a 6-bed, 6-bath Victorian House on 11 acres that can also serve as an event location for weddings and other gatherings. You can check that property out at www.engadineInn.com. A mass UFO sighting took place in Muskegon Michigan 30 years ago, and the mystery remains. This episode we talk to a key witness of the event. On March 8, 1994, more than 300 people across 42 counties of Michigan — and as far away as 200 Miles — saw strange lights above Lake Michigan for a period of several hours. Along with police officers, documented 911 calls, FAA operators, and other reliable witnesses, Jack Bushong of the National Weather Service was manning the radar, and tracking this strange phenomena. Bushong joins Talking Strange to discuss this occurrence, and is joined by Bill Konkolesky, state director of the Michigan Mutual UFO Network. About the guests: Jack Bushong grew up in Muskegon, Michigan, and knew from an early age that he wanted to be a meteorologist, having always been interested in the weather, astronomy, and science. He received a bachelor's degree in Meteorology from Florida State University in 1988 and was 29 years old when he was working at the National Weather Service in Muskegon on the night of a dramatic UFO event he tracked on radar. Shortly after the event, he moved to Georgia and became a hydro-meteorologist. He retired in 2016, after an illustrious career with numerous awards and promotions, and now wants to share what happened on the night of March, 8, 1994. Bill Konkolesky has been State Director of the Michigan Chapter of the Mutual UFO Network since 2004. He joined in the organization in 1993 after reporting some of his personal UFO encounters and now, along with his MUFON responsibilities, also does frequent public presentations on the phenomenon and has contributed to numerous UFO related books and television productions. He's also the author of Experiencer: Raised in Two Worlds, and returns to the Talking Strange show for a second time. _______________________________________________________________ Talking Strange Paranormal Podcast with Aaron Sagers is a weekly paranormal pop culture show featuring celebrity and author interviews, with a weekly "Small Talk" mini-sode with reader submitted letters and spooky tales. Shelby is a licensed social worker in the state of Michigan who specializes in complex trauma. Shelby graduated with her master of social work degree in 2020 from Grand Valley State University and has since worked as a children's homebased therapist in community mental health, and as an outpatient therapist in private practice with adults. She has experience working with children, families, perinatal mothers, and adults. Just like Kina, her favorite clients to work with are young adults who have struggled to gain deeper healing in therapy. As a trauma therapist, Shelby uses a variety of modalities and interventions, including Internal Family Systems/parts work, Polyvagal Theory, Compassion-Focused Therapy, Mindfulness, and Somatic Experiencing to attempt deeper healing and meaning. IFS is one of her favorite modalities because she has seen so many clients resonate with it (including herself), and has also seen such powerful shifts in how clients relate to themselves, the people in their lives, and to the world. IFS is an approach to complex trauma treatment, as well as various other treatments, that aims to integrate all "parts" or personalities of a person into a more functional and accepting whole system that is led by the self. The goal is to heal "wounded" parts and restore mental balance. She has found this modality especially effective for clients who tend to have dissociative symptoms and/or attachment/relational trauma. Shelby is currently based in Muskegon Michigan; for more information on her or how to work with her, you can find her information on Tiktok (@Shelby_thetherapist)."

We also have a flower review on Sherbert by NOBO. Is Delta 8 getting Banned in Michigan? What really is going on with the Covert Cups recall here in Michigan. All this and more in the newest episode. Sherbert Strain Review Cannadave & Groovee review the cannabis strain Sherbert. Sherbert was grown by NOBO and we bought it at their Muskegon location. Sherbert is a cross between Girl Scout Cookies and Pink Panties, it's also known as Sunset Sherbert. This specific strain has a gassy & Limonene terpene profile. Have you tried Sherbert before? If so is it one of your top strains? Cannadave & Groovee talk about what makes Sherbert so unique & does it pass the MiCannaCast Strain Review. Tune in and Find out. Muskegon Cannabis The Westside of Michigan is a hub for cannabis spots. We stopped in at Muskegon and were wowed away by all the cannabis companies out there. It had tons of different shops and we were able to hit a couple of them.  The first stop we stopped in was NOBO. NOBO is about the quality of the Flower they produce. We had on Alan Bonsett Owner/Founder of NOBO a brand from Colorado that has entered the Michigan market. We reviewed the Sherbert and the Truffle pig products of NOBO. The overall shop was neat, friendly staff and knowledgeable, they also have deals and grams can cost around 10.40 for one. The Second Shop was Timber Cannabis, a nice spot, and friendly staff was there. They are vertically integrated like NOBO but didn't have any flowers of their own yet. They're currently in the process of growing and harvesting their first batch in the coming months. They based their cannabis on how it made you feel instead of Indica & Sativa. Cannadave ended up getting an 8yth of Michigrown Runtz to try out which was pretty good. The Third shop was Redbud Roots. Very cool-looking shop as well, we didn't get much from this shop. Groovee picked up some Gorilla Glue wax which is reviewed on the CannaCon episode towards the end. See What Groovee thought of the wax! Finally the last stop was Rair, which also was vertical integrated carrying mostly their own in-house product. We picked out a couple of grams of Flower Platinum Garlic & Glue, as well as some Live Rosin of Plantium Garlic. The platinum garlic had a  unique taste definitely a spicy & limonene taste. Covert Cups Recall A big recall in Michigan happened the other day to a product we like to eat, which is Covert Cups. They're edibles two pack 50mg a piece comes in a couple of different flavors. The state recalled them over packaging because it didn't match up to the original package. Berg from Medical Mondays had a great interview with Chris from Covert Cups to discuss what truly happened. The company that produced the cups Euclid lost their license temporarily because of the test and not good healthy practices happening inside the facility. The workers licked the spatula, touched their phones, & didn't wear practical clothing inside the facility. This is the same company that was suspended last year for two weeks due to an employee licking tons of pre roll joints during the pandemic. We shall see what happens here in the future and we will keep you updated. Delta 8  Delta 8 is Not getting banned in the State of Michigan. Governor Whitmer came out with a response saying we aren't banning it like we originally thought. The state is taking a different approach to have Delta 8 regulated in the state. This is a great step for our state to lead the way with Delta 8, we actually reviewed the vape oil of Delta 8 before we thought it was going to get banned. The MRA will be regulating the Delta 8 testing it just like the medical and adult-use cannabis gets tested through that program too.

On Episode 87 of MiCannaCast, Cannadave & Groovee have Special guest Alan Bonsett CEO/Founder of NOBO Goods. We are able to learn more about an upcoming brand here in the Michigan Market and what makes them different from other brands that are here in the State. Mission Statement of NOBO: NOBO is, NOBO is Michigan it's their saying they use. "Those in the know, Know NOBO!" Alan mentioned these are NOBO's brand and what NOBO is. Alan has been in the Colorado Market for about 10 years now. They are huge cultivators in the state of Michigan & Colorado. They have an LED lighting company (Grow Ray technologies) they own and use these for their own grows in the state here. LEDs have changed the game with grow lights. Do you prefer HPS or LEDs as a grower? It's one of the bigger debates in the industry. We agree with Alan that LEDs are the ways to go. Cannadave did a LED vs HPS side by side. NOBO first started in the Legal Colorado market and expanded to the Michigan Market in the last year. They have two retail shops open in the Michigan Market right now they're in Edwardsburg and Muskegon Michigan. They plan to open up 3 more locations in the state this year. They also have a cultivation facility in Benton Harbor to produce their quality buds. They also have an extraction company in Benton Harbor as well, they produce full-spectrum gummies and full spectrum vape cartridges. They create Moonrocks at their locations and have them available in their shops. Farm to Table Model is NOBO's concept for vape full spectrum cartridges to extract the terpenes and reintroduce the terpenes back into the vape pens on Strain Specific strains. It's great to see this reintroduce because its exact strains, not like a bubblegum flavor or berry berry flavor. NOBO's main focus is quality of product to compete with other competitors in the state here in Michigan and Colorado. We believe Quality over Quantity for products is great to see companies going for quality of plants and care on a daily basis than just mass producing cannabis. Alan talks about his time in Oregon and how the competition is out there. Before coming to the Michigan Market was in Oregon and got out but planned to try to get into other states moving forward with legalization. It was cool to hear his experience with the different states NOBO has been and where he plans to take the NOBO Brand. NOBO is hiring in the Michigan Market, if this is something you're interested in please contact NOBO through their website or their social channels. Also, mention MiCannaCast when you go to apply. Guy is a 1993 Muskegon Heights alumnus, who was starting point guard on the Tigers’ state-finals team that year. He spent 11 years working and coaching at his alma mater, nine of them as head coach. The 2019-20 school year marked his eighth as head coach and athletic director at Muskegon High School. In total, Guy has made nine trips to the final four as a player, assistant coach or head coach. He guided the Big Reds to a banner season in 2013-14, when they rolled to a Class A state championship and finished with a 28-0 record. The 1992-93 season was a special one for Guy and Muskegon Heights. The Tigers were ranked No. 2 in the state and made it to the Class B championship game at The Palace of Auburn Hills, where they lost to Saginaw Buena Vista, 69-52. Guy, a 5-foot-10 spark plug, finished with six points and five assists in the game. Maurice Sain, who is a longtime assistant coach on Guy’s staff, led the Tigers with 14 points and 12 rebounds in the ’93 title game. Guy has built Muskegon into a perennial power. The Big Reds have a string of conference and district titles going, and who knows what the 20-2 team in 2019-20 could have done, as its season was cut short because of the COVID-19 shutdown. @HoopsBigReds kguy@mpsk12.net --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/kevin-furtado/support

What’s a nice tech investor like Esther Dyson doing in Muskegon, Michigan? Dyson was an early tech guru, impresario of the highly influential conference PC Forum and newsletter Release 1.0, friendly with Steve Jobs and Bill Gates. Yet now she’s regularly flying from her base in Manhattan into a handful of small communities in America’s heartland, trying to spread the same message of long-term thinking and learning through trial and error that pervades Silicon Valley. The problems she’s addressing have a lot to do with time. At July’s What’s Now: New York event, presented in partnership with Capgemini at their Applied Innovation Exchange, Dyson will lead a conversation about how we need to rethink private and public behavior by shifting from short-term to longer-term horizons.

B.L. Da Lyfe (Botney Collins) BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION There is something about a self-made man -- especially in Hip Hop these days where most folks earn their spot based on association. You know, those “Superficial Stars” who are more famous for who they’re signed to, who they’re sleeping with, or who they’re beefing with. Their “Story” is the star. Their music is an afterthought. By contrast, there is a certain respect reserved for those who make a way from no way out; who turn adversity and struggle into the soundtrack of their own triumph, and find a way to weave their life’s joy and growing pains into melodic rhythms that move the masses... We call these folks MCs (Masters of Ceremony), and they are a rarity in today’s world of instant gratification. Born in Muskegon Michigan, as unpretentious and blue collar as it gets, in an era when a man lived or died on his word and his will to survive, BL Da Lyfe is a true MC in every sense of the word. A Quick Foreword...If you haven’t listened to a podcast from us before, there are only three things you need to know:1) We support local, independent and original music from Muskegon and surrounding West Michigan areas2)We’re completely free and3) we need your help to grow. Please do something for the local music scene and share us today on FB! We appreciate your help and so do the local artists and businesses we feature.So--on the menu today is a five piece from Muskegon Michigan called “Bury the Silence”. If you had to describe their genre simply, you might start with tech metal…or at least I would. But you’ll probably need to give it a listen to know for sure. I know one thing: you’ll definitely walk away thinking, “this band is heavy!” And, for having such young members, impressively technical as well. The tracks on today's podcast are featured on the band's new CD "Phobiotic", which can also be found on bandcamp.com and at their FB page: Bury The Silence. Make sure you check them out! They also happened to be very friendly and enthusiastic when we met for our interview at Firehouse Guitars in Muskegon, Michigan. Listen to the interview for their thoughts on who the workhorse of the band is, who slacks off at practice, and where they draw their inspiration--plus more! We’re thankful for their sponsorship of this podcast and make sure you stop in and check out the large selection of guitars, bass guitars, amps, drums and all musical supplies, as well as the broad range of staff available for private lessons. You can find them on Facebook as well as at FirehouseGuitars.com! Peace and stay local...
