Here's the email I got from Kevin to get on the show:I just started listening to your podcast and already love it. I am a huge fan of anything related to classic mustangs. I am 25 and already have had 5 Mustangs, 4 of which were 1970 or older, I'm currently working on 2. The first one I'm currently working on, I bought in a field of Mustangs in middle Georgia as a college graduation/commissioning present to myself. It is a 1970 Mustang fastback. The other, which I bought when I got stationed in Hawaii is a 1966 Mustang Convertible GT 289 4 speed. I am still relatively new and learning as I go.I would love to give encouragement and inspiration to those who are younger in the community or those who, like me, are just figuring things out as they go, one step at a time.  If you own a Mustang, how long have you owned your ride?: The 1970 fastback I have owned for about 3 years. The 1966 convertible I bought about 7 months ago.What do you do for a living?: I am a Naval Officer If you own a Mustang or classic car, have you named your car? The 1970 does not have a name yet. The 1966 is called RustyIf you've made improvements to your classic car or restored it, what work have you done?: 1970- Had the carb rebuilt, did some body work to get rid of the surface rust, I'm finishing up rewiring the whole car. 1966 convertible- rebuilt the front suspension, replaced the doors, replaced the grill and fog lights, new carb, new power convertible top system (still need the new top), currently in the process of rewiring this one as well.What plans do you have for improvements/restoration/modification of your classic car?:1970-planning for a high performance build, either a built 351 or possibly a coyote swap later down the road. 1966- building into a nice driver to have fun with. It has power steering, a/c, and disc brakes. En effet, la fameuse Ford Mustang Fastback de 1967 signera bientôt son retour sans le moindre rejet de gaz à effet de serre, tout comme le célèbre Combi Volkswagen dont on vous avait déjà parlé dans ce podcast il y a quelques temps. Tous les détails sur ces come-back sans émission de CO2 sur route dans cet épisode. Si la plupart des constructeurs automobiles n'ont pas d'autres choix que de tout miser sur de nouveaux modèles de véhicules électriques ou hydrogènes à cause de l'interdiction de commercialiser des voitures essence et diesel d'ici 2035 en Europe, d'autres compagnies ont activé la carte nostalgie en remettant au goût du jour des véhicules ultra populaires auprès des automobilistes et passionnés d'auto de manière générale. À commencer par la firme britannique Charge qui la semaine dernière a présenté une toute nouvelle Ford Mustang Fastback de 1967 100% électriques. Que les fans les plus pointilleux se rassure, le châssis de ce nouveau modèle est bel et bien celui de la célèbre marque au cheval. Si tous les détails techniques n'ont pas encore été révélés, on sait toutefois qu'elle disposera d'une batterie de 64 kWh et d'une transmission intégrale, sans oublier une puissance de 544 ch obtenue grâce à deux moteurs électriques. La marque Charge promet ainsi une autonomie de 320 kilomètres seulement... c'est assez décevant en effet, mais explique pouvoir atteindre le 0 à 100 km/h en moins de 4 secondes, ce qui reste une excellente performance pour une voiture électrique. Alors vous vous doutez bien que ce modèle de collection ne revient pas sur le devant de scène sans quelques petites contraintes. Le nombre d'exemplaires tout d'abord, limités à 499, chacun affiché au prix astronomique de 420 000 euros. Mais laissons la Mustang Fastback électrique de côté pour s'intéresser au véhicule préféré des baroudeurs, le Combi Volkswagen qui fera son retour en fin d'année sous le nom de ID Buzz. Cinq ans après l'annonce de son retour en version électrique, Volkswagen a présenté la semaine dernière les caractéristiques de ce véhicule de 4 mètres 71 de long pour 2 mètres de larges et 3 mètres d'empattement. En jargon automobile, l'empattement est la distance entre les axes des roues avant et arrière. Deux versions seront disponibles, une familiale pour les particuliers et une cargo pour les professionnels. Sous le capot trônera un moteur de 150 kw alimenté par une batterie lithium-ion de 77 kwh pour une vitesse maximale de 145 km/h. Reste encore à connaître l'autonomie du véhicule qui n'a pas été précisée par le constructeur. Désireux de relancer son véhicule phare en version 100% écolo, Volkswagen n'y est pas allé par quatre chemin puisque la quasi intégralité des pièces de l'habitacle seront faites en matériaux recyclés, 10% de plastique récupéré dans les océans et 90% de bouteilles en plastiques recyclées. Autre touche modernité, un écran 10 pouces placé au centre du poste de conduite équipé d'Apple CarPlay et d'Android Auto. Enfin, et tout comme la Mustang Fastback, le prix aura sans doute de quoi refroidir de nombreux automobilistes, puisqu'il faudra débourser 60 000 euros environ pour la version familiale. If a car is original when you get it there is a responsibility to preserve it from a historical perspective. Even if a car can't be saved it might be a good source of parts for another restoration There are cars out there you just need to know where to look for them At a Concours event, I'm about talking with people and being out and about learning I attend Concours Elevens where we celebrate the odd and the insane I invite people to come into the car and really experience it and get involved If I was going to buy a car it would be a Porsche 914 because it's so drivable The market and demand changes and there are cars that are appreciating in value The last year of the Porsche 944 is very collectable but you have to be educated about what you buy and understand the details are critical. This On The Move is off to a fast start with a round-up of highlights from Mecum’s recent auction success in Dallas, Texas. Hosts Matt Avery and John Kraman detail some of the sights and sounds on-site, as well as their favorites, including a selection from the event’s top 10 sellers, such as the 2006 Ford GT that sold for $302,500 and an ultra-slick custom 1949 Chevrolet 3100 Resto Mod Pickup. Then it’s on to talk of the SSC Tuatara and the hypercar’s recent achievement of claiming the title of "World’s Fastest Production" car. The Tuatara features a custom-built twin-turbo V-8 that boasts 1,750 HP. Recently, on a closed section of a Nevada highway, the car screamed to an average of 316.11 MPH on two consecutive high-speed test runs. Moving on, the guys talk trucks, starting with Matt’s recent experience with a 2021 Ford F150 equipped with the 3.5L PowerBoost full hybrid V-6 engine. Matt goes into some of the truck’s standout features including the stowable gear selector, tailgate innovations and the onboard ProPower generator system. Wrapping up the car news, the guys discuss the all-new 2022 GMC HUMMER EV. The fully electric off-roader in Edition 1 trim won’t be available until Fall 2021, but when it is, it'll have 1,000 HP, 11,500 lb-ft of torque and a claimed 0-60 MPH time of just 3 seconds. But, all that tech and innovation won’t come cheap with prices starting at $112,595. The guys discuss their perspective on the strategy of a vehicle like this and share some concerns about an all-electric vehicle out on the trails. For the rest of the show, Matt and John are dialed in on a radical custom Mustang built by Kendall. Joining in on Segment 2 is Bill Stephens, who tells some of the brand’s heritage and long-standing involvement with high-performance powertrains. Bill also shares about his experience as the host of Kendall’s Titanium Garage video series, which documents the ground-up build of the 1967 Shelby GT500 Resto Mod dubbed the Kendall Custom. Going even further, Project Manager Mark Beatty comes on for Segment 3 to detail the nuts and bolts of the vehicle, which features a Roadster Shop Fast Track chassis and a twin-turbocharged Ford Coyote V-8 that can be tuned to deliver upwards of 1,200 HP. It’s my restoration shop. We specialize in 65-70 mustangs.If you own a Mustang or classic car, have you named your car? If so, what is his/her name?I have several Fastbacks but no names!How long have you owned your classic ride?I have owned my supercharged coyote Shelby Clone for about 6 years. My 68 Fastback for about 1.5 years. I have a lot of S code Fastback project cars. I sold a very original patina 65 Fastback. Loved that car...If you've made improvements to your classic car or restored it, what work have you done?Personally I do most of the assembly. My team does the bodywork and paint. I’m very involved in the day to day. Before the shop I had a friend who painted for me and I would build a car every one or two years. I have built engines and have done a lot of upholstery work as well.Do you work on your classic cars yourself or do you have a mechanic or shop do the work? Explain pleaseI buy a lot of project cars and mix them in between the client cars. The project cars are stored in the shopping containers and we restore them. When they come out of the paint booth we list them for sale and they usually sell within a few weeks. I’m very fortunate to have a shop with a small team. I love building these cars! I’m not your typical business owner. Im driven by accomplishing rather than profit.What plans do you have for improvements/restoration/modification of your classic car?For my 68 Fastback, I will be adding street or track’s front suspension kit. I found a nice 68 console that I want to put in it. That car has a built 351w and a T5. Rack and pinion steering and disc brakes up front. Sean Kiernan has over 20 years of experience in the automotive industry as both a professional and an enthusiast. Before moving into paint and specializing in sales, management, and consulting, Sean cut his teeth in collision repair as an advisor, restorer and service expert in Nashville, Tennessee. Among the cars in Sean’s collection is the most iconic movie car in history; the 1968 Mustang Fastback, the ‘559 Bullitt Mustang, driven by Steve McQueen in the iconic 1968 film Bullitt. The story behind how Sean ended up with this car is fascinating. When it comes to cars, Sean is respected by many and considered an expert in his field. I had the pleasure of meeting Sean at the LeMay – America’s Car Museum a few months ago, where he shared his Bullitt Mustang. Getting to see the car up close and personal and hear the story, I knew I had to bring this to you, the Cars Yeah listeners.

Dan lived in a house of car enthusiasts in southern California. Both his dad and grandfather owned their own businesses, so Dan was kind of groomed to have his own business as well. In high school, Dan bought a 1968 Mustang Fastback and spent 2 years restoring it with his dad. Once they finished it, Dan went out and took some “professional” pictures of the car, wrote an article, and sent it to every magazine he could find. He was able to get this car featured in some magazines and even on a few covers! Being a true entrepreneur and knowing what he wanted to do, he took classes in journalism and photography, so he could create better content. Purely by chance, his neighbor ran a business that had several small niche magazines that included a couple car magazines. Dan took the job there during college and worked his way up the ladder to become the editor. He worked at several other publishing jobs in cars and tech. He started to see an opportunity with the new social media growth in the mid 2000’s. So, he pitched a large proposal to his boss to begin changing how they do marketing and focus on the new social side. Well, things didn’t go to plan, so he made the calculated risk to go out on his own and do it himself!    Since 2008, Kahn Media has grown from his spare bedroom to a 7000 square foot office space and 20 plus people. Frankie Waters is passionate about automotive restoration and her current project, a 1967 Mustang Fastback, is a vehicle her grandpa spotted that had been in a guys back yard since 1986. That was two year ago. Since then she’s done rust repair, paint, welding, replaced or restored parts, and rebuilt the motor. She won a video competition, writes a blog, and started her own YouTube channel that has a growing number of subscribers. Frankie’s been featured in Mustang Monthly Magazine, appeared in a video with Kellie Coff from Steeroids and Rob Kinnan, editor of the Mustang Monthly magazine. Oh, did I mention that Frankie, is only 14 years old?

Ryan Brutt is a writer and photographer who exudes enthusiasm about muscle cars. His interest is overtly apparent in his new book, Muscle Car Barn Finds. It details the art of automotive scavenger hunts. Brutt, self-described as an Automotive Archaeologist, lives in Chicago. The contributing rider to Hot Rod Magazine is our guest on Episode 34 of The Weekly Driver Podcast. Hosts Bruce Aldrich and James Raia discuss the book and Brutt's trials and tribulations as he travels through several states on his mission to discover hundreds of often abandoned rarities. Consider Brutt's premise: You're driving along a country road in Alabama and something bright orange in nearby field attracts your attention. It's parked near an old barn and partly covered in mildew. You pull into what remains of the driveway in the abandoned lot and your hunch is correct. It's a 1966 Mustang Fastback. It looks neglected. But a good washing later, it's presentable, and another vintage muscle car has a new life. The same scenario could involve a station wagon in Michigan, a Mercedes-Benz in Florida or a long-forgotten pick-up truck in Texas. They're all known by the automotive colloquialism, Barn Finds. It's the sub-set of muscle car barn finds Brutt honors in his new book of the same name. Sub-titled “Rusty Road Runners, Abandoned AMXs and Camaros and More!” (Motorbooks, $35), the 160-page hardback details the author's treks to uncover muscle car enthusiasts' dream machines. “These old warriors aren't dead, just resting,” reads a segment of the book's promotional material. “A drive in the country or through a small-town back street will reveal them lurking under tarps, hidden behind garage doors and stashed behind fences from prying eyes.” While traveling in eastern Tennessee, Brutt finds what he had long heard about but couldn't believe until it appeared through some roadside hedges. Past a few roads of project cars in various shapes, sizes and degrees of disarray, a storage shed was home to an array of first-generation Corvettes. “In all my travels, I had never seen such a collection of really early Corvettes,” he writes. “There were three rows of them with three or four cars per row.” Brutt also details a no-so-pleasing occasion when he faced the wrath of a husband and wife, who, let's say, didn't exactly provide a warm welcome. Eric Wohlberg spent more than a decade traveling around the world to compete on two wheels. He participated in three Summer Olympics for Canada and won multiple cycling national individual time trial titles and stage races. But Wohlberg, 53, of San Jose, in his sixth year as a director for the Rally Cycling Team, now prefers four-wheel transportation. He often travels to the team's camp and its races in the United States and his native country while driving one of his two vintage cars. Eric Wohlberg and his beloved 1964 Buick LeSabre estate wagon. Images © James Raia/2018 Since 1990, Wohlberg has owned a 1965 Mustang Fastback. For his 50th birthday, he purchased a 1964 Buick LeSabre estate station wagon. “I think every man over the age 50 should be driving a Buick of some sort,” Wohlberg said recently during the team's recent pre-season training camp along beachfront property in Oxnard. “It's a rite of passage.” The well-worn interior of Eric Wohlberg's 1964 Buick LeSabre estate wagon. “Right now, that wagon is driving down property values. The place where it's parked in front of is for sale, so that house is probably going for $15,000 or $20,000 less. I am sure the owner will be happy when it's not there.” Wohlberg's interest in vintage cars and their repairs dates to his youth. He was raised on a wheat farm in Saskatchewan where his family had to be self-sufficient. His father led the way. The creatively done, makeshift engine of the Eric Wohlberg's 1964 Buick LeSabre estate wagon. “If something broke, you had to fix it; that's all there is to it,” said Wohlberg. “I just had that same farm-boy mentality. If something breaks, you do your best to fix it. Sometimes it might break a little worse when you are trying to fix it. But that's how it goes. It's a never-say-die attitude.” Wohlberg is humble. While not equipped at his home to do total rebuilds, but he knows his cars well and does most of the repairs. Monterey Auto Week, the yearly international pilgrimage in August to all things automotive is among Wohlberg's favorite weeks of the year. He camps on the beach in the station wagon with his girlfriend and absorbs the car culture. “It's amazing the attention my car gets down there,” Wohlberg said. “Once all the Lamborghinis and Ferraris are judged, I can score 9 1/2s and 10s with my station wagon. With my Mustang, people always want to know if it's for sale. I've had a couple of offers for the wagon. It's a beautiful wagon and they're kind of coming back into style." Wohlberg's description ideally defines the term, “beauty in the eye of the beholder.” The engine compartment is a collection of mismatched parts, the fodder of creative mechanics. The exterior is weathered. The interior is old and worn. The driver's seat floor mat bears the image of a road runner. A religious figurine rest in the center of the dash, accompanied by a plastic toy rifle. What's not to like? “It's a fun old car; it's a little rough," Wohlbeg said. "It's a 50 or maybe even a 100-footer. But it gets the job done. I can haul a lot of stuff in it. I beat it up; it's perfect for the foul weather on highways 101 and 880.”
