The highest court in the U.S. state of Nevada

Keefe D spent years claiming Sean Combs placed a million-dollar bounty on Tupac Shakur and Suge Knight. He said it in police interviews. He put it in a memoir. It ended up in court filings that reportedly reference Combs seventy-seven times. Combs has denied any connection to the murder. And now Keefe D's defense team wants Combs to say that denial under oath, in front of the jury that will decide whether Keefe D spends the rest of his life in prison. The reasoning is deliberate. If Combs testifies he never offered a bounty, it does not implicate him. It destroys Keefe D's credibility. Every interview, every recorded confession, every page of the book prosecutors are treating as a roadmap to the murder — all of it becomes the output of a man who fabricates stories for attention and money. The defense is not building an alibi. It is asking a jury to disbelieve their own client so thoroughly that the prosecution's case falls apart.Combs is serving a fifty-month federal sentence on unrelated Mann Act convictions. Whether he would appear in a Las Vegas courtroom is an open question. But his name is already woven through both the criminal case and a new wrongful death lawsuit filed by Tupac's stepbrother Mopreme Shakur, which names Keefe D and one hundred unnamed defendants. The trial is set for August 10. Keefe D has no lawyer. A Nevada Supreme Court petition could end the case before it begins. Tony Brueski lays out the full picture of where things stand in one of the most consequential murder cases in American music history.Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Hidden Killers With Tony Brueski | True Crime News & Commentary
Sean Combs's name reportedly appears seventy-seven times in the court filings surrounding Tupac Shakur's murder. Across every alias, every legal document connected to the case against Keefe D, the references keep surfacing. A recorded 2008 police interview. A 2009 follow-up with Las Vegas detectives. A 2025 DEA document obtained by USA Today. A Netflix documentary that put the million-dollar bounty allegation back on screen for millions of viewers. Combs has denied involvement forcefully and consistently. Law enforcement said in 2024 he was never a suspect in the case.None of that has stopped the allegation from growing louder. And now Keefe D's defense team wants Combs in the courtroom — not as a defendant, but as their own witness. The strategy is to have Combs deny the bounty under oath, proving Keefe D fabricated the entire story. If the jury buys that Keefe D lied about Combs, the defense argues, they should believe he lied about every confession the prosecution is using to build its case. The criminal trial is set for August 10. Keefe D has no current attorney after his latest lawyer withdrew in March. Every pretrial motion the defense has filed has been denied. A petition at the Nevada Supreme Court represents the last chance to derail the prosecution before a jury is seated. Meanwhile, Tupac's stepbrother Mopreme Shakur has filed a wrongful death lawsuit naming one hundred unnamed co-conspirators and requesting broad discovery powers. Tupac would be fifty-five. Tony Brueski walks through the case, the allegations, and what happens when a man who cannot stop talking finally faces a jury.Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? This episode with Victoria Callier is a great one to close out a guest's law school chapter on. Victoria is a recent graduate of UNLV School of Law and a semi-finalist for Rhetoric's Moot Court Madness competition. Victoria takes us down her journey, from being a kid in Las Vegas who would pick an animal of the week and force her parents to sit through a full persuasive presentation on why it was the best one, to studying English at SMU, to coming back home to UNLV and heading off to clerk for the Nevada Supreme Court in Reno right after the bar. What I appreciated most about this conversation is Victoria's honesty. She did not love 1L, and she says so plainly. She went into her first semester treating everyone as competition before a study group completely turned her mental well-being around. She also walked into law school set on immigration and asylum work, then realized through her internships that she did not have the emotional bandwidth for it, and was self-aware enough to pivot toward the corporate research and writing she actually loves. Oh, and somewhere in the middle of all of that, she was Miss Nevada and runs a mental health nonprofit she started back in high school called More Than You Think.Victoria also gets into Moot Court Madness and how the AI feedback from her first run, which she was handing over information without actually persuading anyone, reshaped the way she reads cases and builds arguments. Her closing advice is simple, but it stuck with me: find what you love about the law and hold onto it, because that “why” is what carries you through the moments you want to quit.A genuinely fun and honest conversation, and a fitting send-off as Victoria heads into her clerkship.Victoria's LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/victoriacallierBe sure to check out the Official Sponsors for the Lawyers in the Making Podcast:Rhetoric - Empowers your teaching and training with AI that strengthens learning, protects integrity, and proves authentic understanding, for students and professionals alike, with CICERO. We cover cases that will peel back the veneer of what we need to do to change our lives for the better. We cover news articles that spark conversations about the total insanity of this modern day witch hunt. This podcast will call out bad policy and call out those that are making bad policy. To change things for the positive, we need to act. We are 6-7-8-900k strong. With that many people, plus their friends and family, over a million people are affected by the registry. We should be able to secure donations to hire lawyers and lobbyists to move the agenda in our favor. We need our people to be represented.

Workers Compensation is a very state specific thing, and recently, we have heard a lot of excited talk about work comp subrogation in Nevada. That's because the Nevada Supreme Court changed the long-standing common law rules establishing the system for calculating the amount an insurer could recover on a workers compensation claim in a decision handed down in 2024. Listen in as Rebecca and Steve walk through the rules as they developed in the common law over 38 years, then suddenly changed in 2024, and the legislature's response in 2025, to answer the question: where do Nevada work comp subrogation claims now?
Short-term rentals (or STRs) like Airbnbs have been a hot topic in the local headlines over the last few years. We talked with two STR owners back in 2023 when they first challenged the County's regulations, but since then, they've taken the County to court, including hearings in front of the Nevada Supreme Court. So where does it all stand now? Are STRs legal in Clark County, and what kinds of regulations would actually make sense for our neighborhoods? Co-hosts Sarah Lohman and Dayvid Figler discuss. It's a race to 270. With just six days until the 2024 presidential election, Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are seeking to motivate voters in key swing states across the nation in hopes of picking up enough support to earn 270 electoral votes and claim victory. Trump will speak to voters Wednesday afternoon in North Carolina's 1st District, a region that is anticipated to determine which candidates win the state's 16 electoral votes. Harris will only be an hour away, holding a rally in Raleigh, North Carolina. In addition to North Carolina, states to watch on election night include Pennsylvania, Arizona, Nevada, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Georgia. And Heritage Action for America Executive Vice President Ryan Walker argues that Harris should not count on winning Virginia, despite the fact that President Joe Biden easily carried the state in 2020. The razor-thin margins in the swing states indicate that it may take several days for the American people to know who their next president will be, and some states, like Nevada, pose a unique challenge to determining a winner. On Monday, the Nevada Supreme Court affirmed a lower court decision that mail-in ballots with no postmark can be received and counted until three days after the election. There is, however, a chance the winner will be known on election night, according to Walker. "I think that the energy and enthusiasm gap is such this year that we'll know a significant amount of information going into Election Day," Walker said. "And if we can extrapolate those numbers and compare them to Election Day results in previous years or get some initial data on exit polling, there is a chance that the winner could be declared on election night despite some of these states having late arrival votes that they're still counting." Walker joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to discuss the key issues on the minds of voters this election, and to predict when the presidential election will be called.
Join Jim and Greg as they update the Democrats' latest efforts to get donations from "Doris" and "Diane." They also discuss key events affecting the GOP in Nevada, the New York Times' partisan focus on "misinformation," and more proof that ballot drop boxes are a terrible idea. They kick things off with a fun update on recent Harris campaign fundraising pitches sent to the wrong recipients. Jim and Greg share the Democrats' persistent attempts to get "Doris" and "Diane" (who are really just Greg and Jim) to donate—and the various psychological tactics they use that have no chance of working.Moving to the Nevada battleground, they discuss the latest mixed results for the GOP. Early voting trends show Republicans gaining a lot of ground in this cycle, but a recent Nevada Supreme Court ruling allows mail-in ballots to be counted even if received days after Election Day and without a postmark. They also tackle the latest efforts from the left-leaning media to target online conservative content. Ben Shapiro highlighted an email he received from a New York Times reporter about an upcoming piece that critiques right-leaning YouTube channels based on data from the Soros-funded Media Matters for America. They slam the Times' reliance on the far-left MMFA's analysis and the implications for conservative voices online. Finally, they cover disturbing reports from Washington and Oregon of incendiary devices placed in ballot drop boxes, leading to some serious ballot damage. Jim and Greg want the perpetrators punished severely, but they also see this as just the latest sign that ballot drop boxes are a terrible idea for people interested in fair and secure elections.

Just a couple weeks ago, the Nevada Supreme Court issued a non-decision with potentially huge implications for our elections — they declined to compel Washoe County to certify the results of a June primary recount. It gets a little wonky, but the big question coming out of this is: Does this give Nevada counties free rein to just… not certify any election results they don't like? What does this all bode for November? Today, co-host Dayvid Figler sits down with Nevada Secretary of State Cisco Aguilar for a wide-ranging conversation about election security, the voter ID laws on the ballot this fall, and how we restore faith in our electoral system. Heads up: City Cast Las Vegas members get an extended version of this episode that discusses upcoming legislation, digitalization, translation, and AI in elections. Should public money be used to help build the Oakland A's baseball team a new stadium in Las Vegas? The state's largest teachers union wants to ask voters that question in November. But like so many other proposed initiatives, it's been challenged and appealed up to the Nevada Supreme Court. This week, justices heard oral arguments about the proposed referendum. Host Ben Margiott takes listeners inside the courtroom and interviews Alexander Marks, director of strategy for the Nevada State Education Association, about their 'Schools Over Stadiums' push, the effort to get the referendum on the November ballot and their unlikely alliance with Oakland A's fans.

One initiative seeking to enshrine reproductive freedoms is currently in the hands of the Nevada Supreme Court and advocates are already gathering signatures for another measure dealing with abortion alone. On this episode of Ballot Battleground: Nevada, host Ben Margiott takes us inside last week's oral arguments at the state supreme court, explains the abortion landscape in Nevada and interviews Jason Guinasso, the attorney representing the Coalition for Parents and Children, which is challenging one of the proposed measures. Have you ever driven past Coyote Springs, that never-built development 45 minutes into the desert? They've been tied up in legal battles over water for 20 years. And last week, the Nevada Supreme Court issued a ruling with major implications for Coyote Springs, but more importantly, for how our state uses water. Environmental reporter Daniel Rothberg just wrote about it for the Nevada Independent, and sits down with co-host Dayvid Figler to break it all down. It's wonky, but Daniel makes it easy to understand — and we promise you'll be the smartest person at the dinner table this weekend. Las Vegas, NV - Thomas Randolph, notoriously dubbed the "Black Widower" due to the suspicious deaths of four out of his six wives, is once again under the piercing gaze of the legal system. This 65-year-old Nevada resident, previously sentenced to death in 2017, had his conviction reversed. While no longer on death row, Randolph remains in custody as the anticipation for his retrial grows, echoing sentiments from two decades of intertwined love, death, and suspicions. For many, Randolph's story strikes a chord due to the eerie pattern surrounding his marriages. Four wives met untimely deaths, and life insurance payouts followed two of those tragedies. In the 2017 trial, prosecutors accused Randolph of orchestrating the death of his sixth wife, Sharon Causse, and a man named Michael James Miller. Allegedly, Randolph paid Miller to murder Causse to claim over $360,000 from a life insurance policy. Randolph consistently rebuts these claims, recounting how he found his wife shot dead by Miller. According to him, he fatally shot Miller in self-defense. While the jury's skepticism of Randolph's version is clear, their distrust was further fueled by a grim episode from 1986. Randolph's second wife, Becky Gault, was found dead from a gunshot wound to the head. Although acquitted, the court allowed the jury to consider evidence from that case, including a substantial $500,000 life insurance inheritance. December 9 marked a turning point as the Nevada Supreme Court concluded that the jury should not have been presented with evidence from the 1986 case. Consequently, Randolph's conviction was overturned, paving the way for a new trial. Reacting with evident glee to the court's decision, Randolph expressed his relief on the "Killer Genes" podcast, stating, "I'm just as happy as can be because as I've told everybody - I didn't do this." Yet, a closer look at Randolph's marital history unveils a tangled web of relationships marked by death and suspicion: Kathryn Thomas (Alive): Thomas, his first wife, testified that Randolph threatened her life during their marriage. Despite residing peacefully in Utah, allegations swirled that he once sought a hitman for her assassination. Becky Gault (Deceased, 1986): While Randolph claims she committed suicide, a witness testified he was approached by Randolph to murder Gault. Gayna Allmon (Alive): Allmon's testimony against Randolph portrayed him as a looming threat, recounting an instance when a gun discharged while he cleaned it in her presence. Francis (Deceased, 2004): Francis died under suspicious circumstances. Allegedly, Randolph conspired to murder her in a trailer, a plan that fell through because the would-be accomplice feared Randolph would turn on him. After her death, Randolph immediately cremated her, later receiving settlements from both a hospital and her life insurance policy. Leona Stapleton (Deceased): Randolph reportedly shared with friends and family that cancer claimed Stapleton's life. The details remain shrouded in mystery. Sharon Causse (Deceased, 2008): The crux of the upcoming trial. Randolph's account of finding her dead, then shooting the assailant, Michael James Miller, has been met with skepticism, especially given the substantial life insurance payout he received after her death. Yet, as Randolph revels in the decision, not all share his enthusiasm. Causse's daughter, Colleen Beyer, candidly voiced her frustration, "Everybody needs to know he's guilty... He did it. There is no doubt. I'm really mad, I'm really angry with this system." Randolph's story is a convoluted tale of love, betrayal, and death, now on the precipice of another trial. With four wives deceased under shadowy circumstances and two insurance payouts, the public and judicial scrutiny will only intensify. The upcoming trial promises new revelations and, perhaps, some semblance of closure for the families affected by Randolph's perplexing marital history. Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE?
