Growing up on one of the 7000+ islands of the Philippines, food was at the heart of community and family for Adrianne de Jesus Davo (Queenies, ACT). Although she never imagined a career in food, a moment where she was thrown into a commercial kitchen lit a fire in her belly to explore her creative side in hospitality. She worked in hard kitchens, finding inspiration in some, but when a chef told her she would never make it as a chef, instead of giving up it drove her to a new level and now she is carving out her own name amongst the throng of new wave eateries to emerge in Canberra's dining scene.https://www.queeniesatkingston.com.auFollow Deep In The Weeds on Instagramhttps://www.instagram.com/deepintheweedspodcast/?hl=enFollow Huckhttps://www.instagram.com/huckstergram/Follow Rob Locke (Executive Producer)https://www.instagram.com/foodwinedine/LISTEN TO OUR OTHER FOOD PODCASTShttps://linktr.ee/DeepintheWeedsNetwork

Welcome to RYFB with me, Ruby McGuire, Business Mastery and Mindset Queen. This podcast is for you if you're a service-based business owner, a solopreneur. You're effectively the CEO of your business. I'm here to help you feel and behave like one. In this podcast show, we'll explore the many facets of being the leader, aka Queen of your business. We'll talk about creating a success mindset and taking your business to the next level. I'll be talking all things business mastery, mindset and manifesting through the Law of Attraction. I do like a bit of woo! Tune in (mostly weekly) as I'll be sharing lots of business strategies to help you. Make sure you head on over to www.rubymcguire.com to find out how we can work together. Book in a call and let's share a virtual cappuccino together! XXX How to stop people wasting your time on discovery calls In a recent Queen of Business mastermind call, one of my clients (Queenies) asked what to do when you have clients come onto a discovery call and turn out to be time-wasters. If you've been in business for any length of time, you'll know that this happens. Sometimes people do their research around who to work with. You'll also have those people that want to get some free coaching on the call. To help you overcome this issue, I'm sharing the three simple strategies we discussed. Your time is precious. You've got a queendom to run after all! You want people that are ready to work with you, not trying to get free information/advice. Here are 3 simple ways to reduce the amount of people taking up your time : 1. Create a filtering system / selection process What do I mean by this? Create a form on your website that asks your potential clients a series of questions. You want to understand the following: What they are struggling with What they hope to achieve by working with you Their level of commitment I have to say that my favourite question of all time, is one that my then coach, Adrienne Dorison, gave me: ‘How committed are you emotionally and financially to working with me right now?” You need to know the level of commitment that this potential client has. This question cuts to the chase and allows you to find out whether they're going to be a good fit for what you have to offer. It stops time wasters because in that question they will usually share with you what level of budget they have and whether they are ready to commit financially or not. It’s not just about the money though. You want to know if they're ready emotionally too. I like to KISS - Keep It Simple Sweetie - I just ask 4 questions now: What ONE key thing would you like to discuss on our call today? (It keeps the call focused) What have you done so far to resolve your current issue? (This tells me if they are action-takers or not) How committed are you emotionally and financially in us working together? (The golden question) Is there anything else you’d like to share with me in preparation for our call? (This allows them to share important detail with me if they want to) Sometimes, clients will share a story with you about how they've worked with other coaches and they haven't got results. It's quite possible that this is because they weren't ready, rather than it being down to another coach(es) poor skills. If someone bemoans people that they've worked within the past, treat this as a red flag. Once you know the answers to this question of emotional/financial commitment, you can then decide whether to carry on with the call or adjust the length of the call if necessary. Let’s say that they complete the form and tell you that they're working to a £200 budget (change the currency to whatever works for you). You might know that your services start at £500. You can then send them a link to a page on your website with your pricing and services. In the email, you can explain the entry point of your pricing structure. You both then may decide that it's not worth holding the call. You can then consider sharing a link to free resources that you've created. You could also introduce them to someone that can help based on the budget they have to spend. Remember to review your questions from time to time, and adapt where necessary. 2. Put your pricing on your website For some people, putting your prices on your website is a controversial thing to say. I would much prefer to know the price of something to enable me to make an informed decision about whether to buy or not. I don't understand why you wouldn't put your prices on your website. I don’t see the need for secrecy. Maybe that’s just me! I encourage you to put your prices on your website, because this allows your client to decide if they want to find out more about you, and whether to book a call to discover if you're a good fit to work together. The potential pricing barrier has gone, so that's one less obstacle that you have to overcome on that discovery call. That's a win: win in my book! When a client checks out your pricing, they have a decision to make. Can they afford you right now? If not, then maybe they'll pull together a plan to make it happen. They are less likely to jump on a call with you and waste your time, and they won't be wasting their time either. 3. Set expectations at the beginning of the call As you get on the call with this prospective client, set it up as a sales call. Check their understanding and expectations of the call with you. Explain that this is a sales call, and you're talking to find out if you're both a good fit for each other. Tell them that once you've taken them through a few questions, you'll be sharing ways in which you can work together. Another method to manage expectations is to remind them at the beginning of the call how long you’ve allocated for your discussion. That way you’ve set a boundary around how long the call will last. This is a pretty standard method for coaching calls, yet, it also works great for all calls. This way, you won’t overrun. Once you manage expectations you’ll find the call will be a lot easier. Here’s a bonus tip: Get clear on who/how you help When you’re super clear on who you serve, how you help and what you offer, the more clarity people will have when they talk with you and check out your website. I know it sounds basic, but it’s important. For example, my dreamie clients are action-takers. I know that if someone comes on the call and says they find it hard to take action, they will not be a good fit for me. I know I will get frustrated because I love working with people that aren’t full of excuses, and aren’t afraid of doing some work. When you know this about yourself, you’ll find it much easier to recognise your own dreamie clients when you talk with them. When you’re clear on how you help and your services, it becomes clear whether you have the right services to offer your potential client on the call. If you don’t, then share that with them, and end the call. Again you could introduce them to someone that can help. Finally, here’s a quick reminder of the three top tips, and the bonus one of course: 1. Create a filtering system/selection process 2. Put your pricing on your website 3. Set expectations at the beginning of the call 4. Get clear on who/how you help XXX Thanks so much for tuning into Rock Your Fabulous Biz with me, Ruby McGuire, Business Mastery and Mindset Queen. Book in a call and let's share a virtual cappuccino together! XXX Have you ever thought of using Oracle cards in your business? I use them for all sorts of things now. I recently wrote a post about this over on the Coaching Tools Company blog, which you can read here. I share a story of how the universe thought it was funny to play a game with me, and kept giving me a topic I didn’t want to write about! I thought I’d share a few more tips and an example to get you playing with your writing. I use cards in my Queen of Business Mastermind each week. It’s a lovely way to start the meeting, it gives people a little shot of inspiration, and sometimes instigates some great conversations. I worked with a friend of mine many years ago, and because she was a friend it was quite hard to get out of the ‘helping’ phase. You know, where you want to offer ‘friend advice’. I knew this wasn’t what she needed, so I whipped my phone out and pulled a few cards on an app, and used this as the basis for coaching. She had some fabulous breakthroughs. Today I want to talk to you about using them to create content ideas. 1. Set an intention of what you want to create When I’m stuck with what to teach on a training call, or Facebook post, newsletter, or blog post, I simply get a card deck out and allow that to inspire me. So how do you do it? Sit with the cards in your hand, ask the universe to send you guidance on what you want to create Keep your dreamie client(s) in mind as you set your intention, that way you’ll get some clearer messages Shuffle the deck and pull three cards 2. Go through the messages and pull out some keywords that pop out at you As you flick through the cards you’ve pulled, you’ll want to notice which keywords/concepts pop out at you. Usually, your deck will have some extra wording that goes with the card. I don’t usually use everything that comes up. I just notice what resonates for me at the time. I’ll share an example of this with you soon. 3. Start writing Write whatever comes up for you around the keywords that popped out. Don’t filter, just allow yourself to free write. You might be surprised by how much actually comes up for you. Let’s pretend right now that I need to write a blog post. Here’s how the process works in action: Set Your Intention: I want to write a blog post about getting clients, but essentially the topic is around pricing Note Your Dreamie Client’s Perspective: I want my client to feel confident around the services they offer Pull Three Cards: You can just do one card, however, I find that three cards gives you juicier content (see footnote for cards I used): So let’s say I want to write a post about my Queenies (as I call them) getting clients, specifically around her pricing. My Queen doesn’t want to come across as needy, she’s just lacking confidence when she invites someone to buy from her. Let’s find out what cards come up (and no, these aren’t ones I’ve prepared earlier. I’m acting as if I’m really writing this as a blog post!) 1. Lion Spirit - Be generous of spirit Key messages: “You’ve been given the gift of pride and a healthy sense of worth to express your divine authentic self in a unique way.” “Take pride in your ability to serve from the heart.” “Many will benefit from the healthy expression of your unique set of gifts if you choose to work in partnership with Spirit.” If I was writing a post about this for you, based on pricing, I would be writing key headers around the card to get some creative juices flowing. I would then write the ideas as my blog post. Here’s what I mean; Unique offering: I would get you thinking about what parts of your services are unique, different to what everyone else is offering Self-worth: I would get you thinking about how your self-worth might relate to the prices you’re charging Years of experience: Building your confidence, I’d get you to consider how many years of experience, training, reading etc. you’d done around your topic area which you can then bring to helping your client as part of your package Benefits: I would help you recognise the benefits of working with you specifically Serving from the heart: I would get you to consider what additional value-added items you could add to your packages, i.e. meditations, checklists, worksheets, templates Partnership with the Universe: I would encourage you to think of intentions that you could set with the Universe to support you - bringing in a bit of manifesting magic! 2. Parrot Spirit - Watch Your Words Key messages: “Are you aware of what you’re saying to yourself and others?” “Parrot Spirit shows up as a reminder to heed the words that flow from your mouth, your pen and your keyboard.” Then, as before, I’d write some key headers. I’d ask myself here, “How does this relate to decision making around pricing?” That way, I’m always coming back to my original topic/intention for the post. Link back to self-worth: I’d reiterate how your words can affect your self-worth, and get you to think through how you can use the power of your words to help you feel more confident with your pricing Heed your words: I’d get you to start noticing where you need to improve what you’re saying, writing and typing 3. Deer Spirit - Take The Lead (reversed) Key messages: “Don’t let anyone bully you into something you’re uncomfortable with.” “You have solid footing if you stand your ground with grace.” “Today you need a tougher hide so that any compromises you make allow you to maintain your integrity.” Again, use your key headers to link to the overall topic. Take the lead: I’d be talking about how you being Queen of your business means that you need to take control of the sales conversation. I’d share how really knowing the benefits of what you’re offering will help you not to buckle if someone comes across a bit bullish Standing your ground with pricing: I’d explain that it’s much easier to stand your ground when you feel confident with your packages and pricing, and when you trust that if this particular client isn’t for you, then another one will come along that’s absolutely perfect for you. Compromising: I would talk about how compromising on your packages, i.e. discounting, will over time dent your self-confidence, and you’ll possibly kick yourself for not charging what your services are worth! Using oracle cards can really free up your mind, and help you to generate more creative ideas than you would if you just sat in front of your computer. It’s a way to stretch your brain into thinking slightly differently. I hope it’s been useful sharing how I use cards to write blog posts, training etc. I find it really helps me to come up with lots of different ideas that perhaps I wouldn’t have thought of if I’d have just stared at a blank page. Here’s a quick recap: 1. Set an intention of what you want to create 2. Go through the message and pull out some keywords that pop out at you 3. Start writing around those keywords and see what comes up As with any writing, aim to get out of your own way and trust the process. What’s the best that could happen? You may get a one-liner/paragraph that you could share on social media, or you might even end up with a fabulously creative blog post! I wonder, will you now play around with some oracle cards for your writing? If you do, drop me a note at ruby@rubymcguire.com and let me know how it worked out for you. If you use them already, I’d love to know how they help your creative process. PS. Learn how to save hours of time and energy creating content in my Create Content Like A Queen Masterclass PPS. Leading is about being confident, having a sense of surety about you. There are many different types of leaders. You can be autocratic, democratic, laissez-faire, direct, coaching, supportive, bureaucratic, to name just a few. There are also many different traits that you perceive a good leader has to have, i.e. integrity, compassion, vision, self-awareness, communication skills etc. In my Queen of Business Mastermind groups, we have a really fun session where the Queenies spend some time exploring the traits of a Queen, and then we define what skills and qualities they need to develop/embody. They choose who their Queen of inspiration is. It’s amazing how different everyone perception of being a Queen is so varied. [LINK] The beauty of running your own business is that you get to define the role. What characteristics do you think make a good queen? Here’s a list of some of the things I like to think make you a good Queen. 1. Queens are visionaries and influencers. You think strategically and are willing to try new ways of doing things. You inspire others to think and dream bigger. You are a trailblazer, not willing to always follow the crowd, but defining how you want to carve out your business and life. 2. Queens lead by example - You’ve spent time perfecting your craft, and act as an inspiration to others. You don’t just teach people what they should do, you do it yourself first, and then share your experiences of it. 3. Queens are committed. You’re committed to your business and the work it involves. You’re also committed to taking action, walking the talk, and being accountable. You know you will never be perfect (perfection doesn’t exist), yet keep being the best person you can be with your knowledge, skills and attributes. You have a winning attitude. 4. Queens act with integrity - You are trustworthy - You do what you say you are going to do, honouring your commitments. You speak your truth with kindness, even if it feels uncomfortable. You’re clear on your values, and what you will and won’t tolerate within your boundaries. You are authentic in everything you do. Part of this integrity is your willingness to be vulnerable, in order to connect with your people. While this may not come naturally, you keep developing the skills so that it becomes easier with time. You have high standards and know it’s better to under-promise and over-deliver. 5. Queens are strong decision-makers. You aren’t afraid to stand up for what you believe in - You are true to yourself. You make a decision and stick to it, knowing when to change the plan if it’s not working. You know you need to be decisive. Even if that decisiveness means going back to your best friend, mastermind group etc. to help you make a quick decision. You know you need to behave in a way that shows you as a leader, not a follower. That confidence sets you apart. 6. Queens believe in themselves and others - Your knees might be knocking, yet you don’t let that stop you. You push through your comfort zones. You know you have an abundance of tools and resources available to you. You might lack confidence from time to time, yet you do the inner work to overcome any of those obstacles that might get in the way. You learn how to build your confidence muscles. You don’t waiver when you speak, you are clear, succinct, decisive and authoritative. 7. Queens take responsibility - For your actions, for the mistakes you make. You don’t blame others, but take responsibility. You are the solution, rather than problem-focused, and as such you acknowledge failure, and then use the feedback to catapult you further forward. The beauty of all of these traits, and any that you believe you need as a Queen, is that you can adopt them. Your royal duty is to show your people by leading by example, being a model of transformation, sharing your experience, your hopes and dreams so that they can be inspired by you to be their best selves. Embody the Queen you want to be, allowing your skills to expand and change over time. You get to decide - What type of leader, aka Queen, would you like to be? PS. You don’t need to be a Queen on your own. If you want support, check out my Straighten Your Crown Sessions. That's right Queenies, we made it to the end of another season! Despite the pandemic and being in different locations, Aaron and Francesco have managed to keep their friendship, the Round Table, and their livers alive. For the season finale, Aaron blind interviews Francesco about his time interning for Saturday Night Live's 19th Season in 1993-94. Francesco had no idea it was coming and delivered details and dish! So pull up a director's chair, pour yourself a Long Island Iced because they're delivering all the tea about one of America's comedy institutions. And on another note, a huge thank you to all of the listeners who have supported The Queens throughout their journey so far. We hope everyone emerges form the quarantine unscathed and has a joyous start to the summer. We'll be back soon with a very exciting Season 3! Until then continue to stay connected to the people you love and yourself. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/qotrt/message
In this episode, Francesco blind interviews Aaron who has no idea what the topic is until it begins. Spoiler alert: The topic is a voyeuristic show that Aaron performed in during the summer of 1995 called C'est la Vie. It took place in the windows of the Empire Hotel across from Manhattan's Lincoln Center. The audience sat in Fountain Plaza with "radio headphones" and binoculars, peeping stories as they unfolded in the windows above them. So strap on your headphones, Queenies, shake up a French martini, and listen in to the tale of the (in)famous C'est La Vie! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/qotrt/message
Let's face it, dear Queenies. It's hard in here for a Queen. Cooped up, too many cookies, wine to the Nth degree, and at-home workouts? Oh, brother. So, Aaron and Francesco decided to just talk it all out. From the passing of Nono Gorga-Giudice, the celebration of the return to New York Housewives, Gwyneth Paltrow's celebration of all things on Goop Lab, to a few laughs and sips of rose, we try our best to bring a ray of sunlight into this darkness we are all living through. So log onto Zoom cause we don't want you near us quite yet, pour some Witch Hazel, and let's lament... and practice self-forgiveness. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/qotrt/message
It's a really weird moment, Queenies. We know. Currently, we are not in the same city, with Francesco sheltering in place in Manhattan and Aaron in Sag Harbor. And so this week, we decided to write a love letter to dear old NYC. She's going through some hard times. And we will always love her. Pour yourself a Big Appletini and grab a seat at the table... preferably 6-8 feet away. (And for what it's worth, Aaron wasn't able to take that vacation.) --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/qotrt/message
AAAAAANDDDD, we are back for Season 2.5! This time around, we're giving you Microcasts. That's right, Queenies, short episodes for when you need a Quick Queens Fix. A Queens Quickie. Perhaps while you're working out. Oh wait, no, not possible. Oh, or shopping? No, that's tough. You need all your wits about you these days when you're getting pasta and TP. Wait! Getting a mani/pedi.... nope. OH, right! You can listen while you're silkwooding your home and your family and the dog? YES! That's it!! In our first episode of the new season, we celebrate Francesco's 46th birthday. To do that, Aaron grills him with some brand new searing Queens' Queries that you won't want to miss. So pour that Quarantini (no, that's not old yet) and join us for a Very Social Distancing Birthday! And remember, as you listen to this, Francesco is most likely sitting alone with a party hat on, starting out the window, turning the lamp on and off. On. And off. Stay safe out there, Queenies. We're gonna do our best to bring you new episodes and some laughs during this Bladerunner time. xo --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/qotrt/message
It’s our very first foursome! The Queens have always been each other’s Galentines. And In the final episode of Season 2, just in time for V-Day, we have our dear friends Arianne and Kimberly at the table joining the discussion. From guilty pleasures to our origin stories, songs written for one another to being mad at art, tap dancing as children to dancing queens, we spend this time celebrating our love for each other, and for you, our Queenies. So pour yourself a cognac, slip into something satin, and let’s make some whoopee. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/qotrt/message
Happy 2020, Queenies! Nothing says new year like CLEANING. It can be a rebirth, a new beginning, a way to exorcise demons, or just quiet the mind. In this episode, we're talking everything from cleaning habits learned from our mothers to our favorite products, housekeepers past and present, our rituals, and our compulsions. So put your overalls on, tie your hair back, and be like our friend Kirstie Alley and pour yourself a straight Vodka City vodka, because we're about to clean it up for the next decade. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/qotrt/message
That’s right, Queenies, this is our very own LEMONADE! Sit back and relax before the ball drops and hear what we think was the best of 2019. From The Politician to The Great Believers, Madonna‘s Madame X tour (of course) to Tootsie on Broadway, TAK Room to Lizzo, this is the ultimate guide to what we loved and what we want you to hear and see. So pour one out for 2019, cause we are here to judge it! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/qotrt/message
XXX When you step into the role of Queen you need to change how you do business. You can no longer be all things to all people. You can’t constantly give away your time, without being paid. You’re running a business dahlinks. You need to set clear boundaries around what you will and won’t do. Having a really solid business model will serve you well, so you are really clear about what you will and won’t take on. The other thing that will help you as a Queen is learning how and when to use the word, ‘No’! When you run a service-based business, you want to be of service, and that’s great. But at what cost? In order to master your business as a Queen, you need to make sure that you’re smart with your time, strategic with your action, and focused when you do work. Sometimes you need to set boundaries for yourself, as it’s not others who are the problem, it’s you! You’re a Queen, but you’re also trying to do every single job in your business, and all that leads to is burnout. So, if you're sitting at your desk or on your sofa answering emails at 11pm at night , you're training your clients to expect you to be available 24/7 (figuratively, not literally). If you don't want to work at 11pm at night, then something has to change. It starts with not replying to emails at 11pm at night (unless you're a night owl and that's when you want to work). Another example that a lot of my Queenies (clients) love is that I only work Monday to Thursday as a general rule. No evenings, no weekends. It’s something I chose to do a few years ago. It means that when I do work, my time is very focused, and it means I get a life outside of my business too. Boundaries. Now you might be thinking that if you set boundaries with your clients you'll lose them, or they'll fall out of love with you. The reality is some of them might, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't set them. Some people actually like boundaries - and people respect you when you have defined lines that cannot be crossed. Sometimes it can help to have a few phrases to hand, whether it's a reply to an invite to work with someone else, or a client approaching you with a problem. Here's a few ways you can set simple boundaries: 1. “I no longer do free work, but you can check out my free resources here...” [add link] 2. “I only do paid speaking gigs. If you want to know the kind of topics I deliver, here’s a link to my Speaker page...” [add link] 3. “I only work Monday to Thursday, and don’t work evenings or weekends. I’m happy to work with you during any of those times. Here’s my diary link ...” [add link] 4. “I no longer have time to do free trainings in other people’s groups, but here’s a link to some training I delivered for my own tribe. Feel free to share it with your group ...” [add link] 5. “I no longer have time to do coffee meet ups. If you’re looking for some support though, here’s how you can work with me ... “[add link] 6. "It's really kind of you to think of me. I like to give projects my 100% commitment and right now my priority is 'x', so I wouldn't have the time to dedicate to it and give it the full attention it deserves." 7. It's not something that feels like a good fit for me but I could put you in touch with ...." Here's a few reasons why you want to consider setting boundaries: You are a Queen, you need to retain control of your kingdom (not in a ruthless way, but so you feel like you’re mastering your business instead of others ruling it) You will be nicer to know! (Grumpy Queens aren’t great to be around. Working too hard is no good for anyone) You will get time to do things you love (ooh, what could you do with that extra time?) You will feel more confident (knowing that you are honouring yourself, your family/friends and also teaching your clients/others how to be strict with their own boundaries) So give boundary setting a go! If you work on your boundaries, you're going to have to re-train your clients so they understand what is/isn't acceptable to you. It's tough, not for the faint hearted, but it's oh so liberating! And hey, you’re a Queen, you CAN do this! Action This Week: Spend some time thinking about the boundaries you need to set in your business. Where are you giving your time away? Where are you overworking? What needs to change? Make the changes and then you’ll have time to do your royal duties. Want to work more on boundaries?
