Flamenco as we know it was “born” in Spain in the mid-19th century. But for centuries before that, Roma (Gitanos, Gypsies) had been living in Spanish cities, often rubbing shoulders with the descendants of Africans (Moors), who had been there as both citizens and slaves going back to Medieval times and earlier. This overlooked pre-history of flamenco is explored in Miguel Angel Rosales's groundbreaking film Gurumbé. In this program, we meet Rosales and learn to hear flamenco in a new way. We also meet maverick flamenco artist Raul Rodriguez, inventor and master of the tres flamenco. Some of today's top storiesA suspected killer is behind bars this morning after a woman's body was found inside a trailer in South Bakersfield. Kern County Sheriff's deputies were called out for suspicious circumstances yesterday at a trailer park on South Union Avenue. And that's where the woman's body was found.  43-year-old Jesus Navarro Razo was arrested in connection to her death.  The woman has not been identified as of newstime. A homicide investigation is underway in Rosamond after a man was found stabbed to death.     On May 31st, deputies were called out to Harvell Street and Sierra Highway.     The victim, identified as 48-year-old Gary Martin, was found in a dirt lot outside a motorhome.     42-year-old Raul Rodriguez was arrested more than a week later in connection to Martin's death.     He's due in court next week.Police are searching for a suspect wanted for questioning in a fraud investigationPolice say this man made a fraudulent purchase at a business on North Chester Avenue back on February 20th.     He's described as 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs 200 pounds.    Anyone with information is asked to call the BPD at 327-7111. 17 News is your local election headquarters.     The Delano rent control and Lamont school board recall initiatives... will *not* make it to November ballot... because of a lack of valid signatures.     17's Jenny Huh has the update.We've teamed up with the Volunteer Center of Kern County for our 23rd annual fan drive and we've been asking for your help to keep our seniors cool and you were listening. 100 fans and $2,600 was donated right outside our studio at Compassion Corner on 22nd and L Streets.    We don't have an exact total yet because so many of you made donations.    Lori Honea with the Volunteer Center said seniors in need will get the fans just in time for Heat Wave number 2. Otvorene priznávajú, že im to pomáha, pretože príbeh je o to silnejší, keď za ním stojí konkrétna osoba. Na druhej strane sa aj zákazníčky vedia lepšie stotožniť s príbehom. Avšak neukazujú ideál, ale realitu. Aké všetky výhody vidia v tom, keď je značka postavená na konkrétnej osobe, nám prezrádzajú v podcaste. „Každý e-shop, ktorý chce byť úspešný, musí mať pekné fotky a spustené reklamy. Je to povinná jazda, ktorú treba stále vylepšovať.“ Raul hovorí, že ešte minulý rok robili vo firme všetci všetko. Mali konzultácie, vďaka ktorým pochopili, že si to musia vo firme upratať. Všetko si rozdelili a teraz má každý svoje zodpovednosti. Zároveň si uvedomujú, že nemôžu expandovať do zahraničia, pokiaľ ich výroba nie je schopná vyrábať stabilný počet produktov každý deň. Radšej preto na to idú pomalšie a stabilnejšie. Na záver nám odkazujú v súvislosti s marketingom: „Treba skúšať a netreba sa báť ísť do rizika, pretože často práve riziko tvorí efekt. Niekedy netreba zanedbávať aj detaily, lebo tie tvoria celok. Keď vám niečo funguje dobre, neznamená to, že to tak bude fungovať navždy. Práve preto treba vylepšovať všetko, čo robíte.“

Flamenco as we know it was “born” in Spain in the mid-19th century. But for centuries before that, Roma (Gitanos, Gypsies) had been living in Spanish cities, often rubbing shoulders with the descendants of Africans (Moors), who had been there as both citizens and slaves going back to Medieval times and earlier. This overlooked pre-history of flamenco is explored in Miguel Angel Rosales's groundbreaking film Gurumbé. In this program, we meet Rosales and learn to hear flamenco in a new way. We also meet maverick flamenco artist Raul Rodriguez, inventor and master of the tres flamenco. Judge Raul Rodriguez is a dual citizen, as he was born in Mexico and moved to the US at age 2. He earned a business degree from the University of Houston and worked in the corporate world before earning his J.D. from South Texas College of Law in 1992. After dedicating his practice to criminal law for over 26 years, he was appointed Associate Judge for 13 years. He then decided to run for a position and was elected to Harris County Court At Law 13 in 2018. In addition to his multiple board memberships, co-chair titles, and committee and sub-committee memberships, he presides over SOBER (Saving Ourselves By Education & Recovery) Court. Raul and his wife Patricia live in Houston, Texas.

Son of the Grammy nominated band Boukman Eksperyans, his earliest memories are of rhythm and sound.  Moving to New York as a youth he was inspired by his heritage to begin crafting a sound all his own. Constantly aware of his roots, the struggle of an immigrant and the drive of New York life, Paul began to create a path where music, activism and history meet.  A unique and transfixing sound he calls 'Roots/Blues', Paul weaves his impeccable guitar skills, rich, vocals, musical ingenuity and cultural history together; all while performing a smooth melange of both English, French and Creole (the native tongue of his Haitian roots). Paul has played alongside some of the world's best artists including Ms. Lauryn Hill, Maxwell, Arcade Fire, Jackson Browne and Bob Weir.  Worldwide performances include venues such as The Beacon Theater and Radio City Music Hall in NYC, Massey Hall in Toronto, The Ryman Theatre in Nashville, The House of Blues in Chicago, The Montreal Jazz Festival, Festival Internationale Nuits d'Afrique in Montreal, Le Trianon in Paris, The Paleo Festival in Switzerland, No Siesta Fiesta in Norway.  These continued accomplishments make him one of the few artists coming out of Haiti to garner worldwide success. Paul has joined forces with Artists for Peace and Justice, and become an integral part of their organization.   He is currently working in collaboration with Jackson Browne, and several other artists including Jon Russell (the Head and the Heart), Jonathan Wilson, Habib Koite, Jenny Lewis and Raul Rodriguez on an upcoming album for APJ.  He also continues to be an active member and perform at their many events in the USA and Canada.  This allows Paul to do what he loves; play music while also furthering awareness of Haitian art, culture and promoting the incredible talent of Haiti's youth. Paul’s album titled 'Vilnerab', released in 2015, soared directly to #1 on itunes in the World Music category, receiving rave reviews. In 2016, he was nominated for a Dora Award by the Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts for ‘Outstanding Sound Design/Composition’ in the production of Espwa/Espoir.   In May of 2018 on Ropeadope Records, Paul released an english/creole album, ‘Ayibobo’ , continuing his evolution of sound into Rock/Roots/Blues music. On April 17th, 2020, Paul released his third album entitled ‘Rasanbleman’.  Recorded live at the Cine Institute in Haiti, this album offers listeners a chance to enjoy the raw and emotive energy of uncut and raw power that Paul brings to his sounds.

But he's not a fan of HB 166, which would raise the minimum wage by almost 50%. He must have a pretty good reason for this, right? He does.
