Abstract: Improving the spatial resolution of a fluorescence microscope has been an ongoing challenge in the imaging community. To address this challenge, a variety of approaches have been taken, ranging from instrumentation development to image post-processing. An example of the latter is deconvolution, where images are numerically deblurred based on a knowledge of the microscope point spread function. However, deconvolution can easily lead to noise-amplification artifacts. Deblurring by post-processing can also lead to negativities or fail to conserve local linearity between sample and image. We describe here a simple image deblurring algorithm based on pixel reassignment that inherently avoids such artifacts and can be applied to general microscope modalities and fluorophore types. Our algorithm helps distinguish nearby fluorophores even when these are separated by distances smaller than the conventional resolution limit, helping facilitate, for example, the application of single-molecule localization microscopy in dense samples. Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty campaigned on a desire to reform the juvenile justice system. Now, four months into the job, her platform is getting its first big test -- in the case of two teenagers charged with killing a 23-year-old woman in her Brooklyn Park apartment. Moriarty offered a plea deal to the teen defendants -- which spurred backlash. Last week, Governor Tim Walz reassigned the case from Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty to Attorney General Ellison. Ellison said the plea deal was too lenient for the severity of the crime. But Moriarty said the deal -- which carried a maximum sentence of two years in a juvenile facility -- was the teens' best chance of rehabilitation. MPR News host Cathy Wurzer spoke to Mary Moriarty about the case and her first months on the job.

George Krumme was born and reared in rural Oklahoma, about five miles northeast of Okemah. His early education took place in a rural school. He finished high school at age 16 in Bristow and then attended Oklahoma A&M as a music major.World War II changed the course of his life. He left A&M to study weather forecasting at Spartan School of Aeronautics and then taught aviation cadets in Texas. Krumme enlisted in the Army Air Corps and received training in mathematics and physics at Pomona College in Claremont, California. Reassignment to the infantry led him to Europe during the Battle of the Bulge, and he was awarded a Purple Heart.After the war, he returned to Pomona to earn a bachelor's degree and was named to Phi Beta Kappa. After graduation, he returned to Bristow, joining his family as a partner in Krumme Oil Company.He moved to Tulsa in 1960 and studied on nights and weekends at The University of Tulsa to earn his master's degree in petroleum engineering and Ph.D. in earth science.He was active in Democratic politics for half a century and served as a National Committeeman from 1976–1996.
