Britain isn't working well for many of us right now. The cost of energy, housing, and food are too high, while decent jobs with real prospects are hard to come by. That is the clarion call of a new campaign group that aims to get Britain building again - Britain Remade starts from the conviction that Britain has been a great hub of industry and science in the past, and there's no reason we shouldn't be in the future, provided we have the right policies in place . Their agenda is very much the same one that animates both CapX and our parent organisation the Centre for Policy Studies, so we were very happy to have one of Britain Remade's founders, Sam Richards, on the podcast this week. Sam is a former director of the Conservative Environment Network and before launching Britain Remade worked as a special advisor in 10 Downing St, focusing on energy and environment. Hosted on Acast. The way our town halls are funded is "broken", say local leaders, with those in the North suffering as a result of an unfair system. There's a particularly stark example of the situation facing our local leaders in the town of Middlesbrough. One of the most deprived places in the country, its ability to turn things around is being hampered by the spiralling costs to the taxpayer of looking after vulnerable children. It's not a Labour politician making this claim, but Mieka Smiles, the Conservative deputy mayor of Middlesbrough. Rob Parsons spoke to her about how town halls face effectively going bust because of the cost of children's services. And as efforts continue to find clean ways to produce energy and create jobs into the bargain, Sam Richards from the pro-growth campaign group Britain Remade tells us how in one region of the North there's overwhelming support for onshore wind turbines. *** The Northern Agenda is a Laudable production for Reach. I feel like it was well-deserved,” said McGee. “Any other outcome would have been like mockery to this whole country and what it's supposed to stand for.”Supporters danced along to music by Brass Solidarity, a musical project “birthed of protest” following a verdict in the Derek Chauvin case.At a distance from the crowd, Sam Richards from the Pine Ridge reservation drummed and prayed for peace and healing for the Wright family.Potter's sentencing hearing is scheduled for February 18th.

How can we tackle the problem of fake news and getting to the bottom of the truth? With social media just re confirming our existing biases, where do you see the future of society going and how can we battle against this?

Two students, one of the Western influence and the other of the Eastern influence, are asked similar questions about how it is that they felt about their grades and themselves in other areas of their lives. The differences are quite stark when you point them out. In general, those, of the East Asian cultural influence have a tendency to underestimate their abilities while those influenced by the Western world tend to overestimate their abilities. Sound familiar? Ever feel a bit strange when being asked to talk about your accomplishments? Well, there's a reason for that.
