It's been a while since we had a top S&C trainer on the podcast so I'm excited to chat with Dalibor Sirola, the current S&C coach of Sasha Zverev. As well as working with Sascha, Dalibor is the head of S&C at the Piatti Tennis Centre. He has previously worked with Ljubic, Seppit, Milos, Jannik Sinner, Born Coric and Sharapova. We chat about his role at the Piatti Tennis Center, getting confidence back into Zverev, what differentiates the top players, testing players, strength levels, flywheel technology, touching on a development model for juniors and a lot more. Meantime, Andrey Rublev won the first Masters 1000 of his career from Monte Carlo, Daniil Medvedev and Sascha Zverev engaged in a war of words, and Novak Djokovic exited early. Denis Shapovalov begins his campaign from Barcelona, while the WTA heads to Stuttgart. All of that and more on this week's episode of Match Point Canada!
Sean Calvert & Nigel Seeley are back with another Game, Bet, Match. The betting public heavily supports Alcaraz, and they speculate that it may be due to the success of previous tennis greats -- but from a betting standpoint, the numbers are worth scrutinizing.Plus, insights on Sascha Zverev v Taro Daniel, as well as the upcoming match between Andrey Rublev and JJ Wolf. Zverev has struggled in the past to adjust from Indian Wells to Miami's conditions, while Daniel has only won 45% of his second-serve points this season.
James Blake joins Nigel Seeley to talk about the upcoming players to watch in 2023. Carlos Alcaraz is on the rise, but Novak Djokovic is still the man to beat. Is Felix Auger-Aliassime is ready to take the next step? Sascha Zverev is recovering from the French Open injury, but what are his chances of regaining top form? They also look at some under the radar players who have a chance to make an impact this year. Get expert tennis analysis in Betting Weekly™: Game, Bet, Match.

Andrew Burton joins Matt Zemek on this episode to talk about Carlos Alcaraz's arrival to the big league of tennis. Alcaraz won his second masters 1000 title of the season and announced himself as one of the big favorites for Roland Garros. While doing so he went through Nadal and Djokovic in a space of two days - making him the first player to achieve that feat on clay. The duo also talks about Sascha Zverev who was clearly outplayed by the young Spaniard in the title match on Sunday. The conversation transitions into Ons Jabeur's maiden title at the 1000 level as she continues her evolution as a top contender on the WTA tour. Where does this win place Jabeur on the favorites list for the clay major? Last but not the least on the topics list is the horrific scheduling of the Madrid event which is increasingly becoming infamous for sidelining the women's event by giving them unfavorable time slots. In this episode Steven and Alex talk about the recent misbehavior that has been happening on court the past few tournaments. They specifically talk about Nick Kyrgios getting fined at Indian Wells and Miami Open, compare it to the Sascha Zverev situation in Acapulco, and discuss whether or not Kyrgios' Miami Open fine was appropriate. Steven and Alex also talk about Iga Swiatek's current dominance, Ashleigh Barty retiring on top, and Carlos Alcaraz winning his first Masters 1000 title. Steven brings up the question of whether or not Carlos Alcaraz is the new Rafael Nadal and they both imagine what would happen if Rafael Nadal decided to coach Alcaraz. Mischa Zverev joined me from his apartment in Monte Carlo in advance of his trip to New York for the US Open. We discussed his brother Sascha Zverev's domination of the field on his way to winning Olympic gold, and why he won the tournament. We talked about the proliferation of uber fans in tennis, as well as the myriad of obligations he has now as he is managing Sascha's career. It is another Italian job for Rafal Nadal title number 10 in Rome for the king of clay. It was always going to happen, finally the Big 3 have struck back after four straight Masters 1000 titles won by the 25-and-unders, dating back to Daniil Medvedev's title in Paris last year. Since then Hubert Hurkacz has won in Miami, Stefanos Tsitsipas in Monte Carlo and, most recently Sascha Zverev took the spoils in Madrid just last week but this was a week and a final for the historians, for the purists, for the statisticians. Nadal and Djokovic have faced off in all four Grand Slam finas, five times at the Nitto ATP Finals, at nine different ATP Masters, at the ATP Cup, the Davis Cup and the Olympics, but nowhere have these two giants of the game met more often than at the Foro Italico. Today was their ninth meeting in Rome and their sixth final and we bring you all the reaction. What a week it's been in Italy's capital. We also hear from Tournament Director Sergio Palmieri, the world's number two Italian, 19 year old Jannik Sinner, Italian commentator Diego Nargisso and our very own ATP Tennis Radio commentators, Chris Bowers and Andy Murray's former coach, Miles Maclagan.
2020 Amerika Açık, Naomi Osaka ve Dominic Thiem'in şampiyonluklarıyla sona erdi. Grand Slam boyunca Eurosport'un Türkçe anlatımları için mikrofon başında olan Socrates Dergi editörleri Aras Yetiş ve Buğra Balaban, pandemi koşullarında oynanan ilk majör turnuvayı enine boyuna değerlendirdiler. Novak Djokovic'in diskalifiye edilmesi, Sascha Zverev'e karşı 2-0'dan geri dönen Dominic Thiem'in vadedilmiş topraklara nihayet ayak basması, Vika Azarenka'nın finalle taçlanan müthiş performansı, Serena Williams'ın yarattığı hayal kırıklığı gibi başat gündem maddelerinin yanı sıra Maria Sakkari'den, Jennifer Brady'den, Felix Auger-Aliassime'den ve yeni kurulan PTPA'den de söz ediyoruz. 2020 Avustralya Açık sona erdi. Kadınlarda ilk Grand Slam şampiyonluğunu elde eden Sofia Kenin'in, erkeklerde ise (sekizinci kez) Novak Djokovic'in mutlu sona ulaştığı sezonun ilk büyük turnuvasından geriye kalanları Acil Servis'te Aras Yetiş ve Buğra Balaban değerlendiriyor. Kadınlarda Garbine Muguruza, Ashleigh Barty, Coco Gauff, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova gibi isimlere ayrı birer parantez açan ikili, erkeklerde üçüncü finalinden eli boş dönen Dominic Thiem'i bekleyen geleceği, Djokovic-Federer-Nadal arasındaki tarihî çekişmedeki son durumu, Sascha Zverev'in ilk esaslı slam performansını, erken Roland Garros ve Tokyo 2020 tahminlerini konuştular.
Roger Federer speaks to us about achieving his 100th career title in Dubai, plus we also hear from Nick Kyrgios after his victory in Acapulco, get to know a little bit more about first-time ATP Tour winners Laslo Djere and Radu Albot, spend some time with young Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime and preview the BNP Paribas Masters in Indian Wells with the likes of Sascha Zverev, Kei Nishikori, Borna Coric, Marin Cilic, Stan Wawrinka, Milos Raonic and John Isner.
We continue our look-back on the story of 2018 with some of our favourite interviews from the year. Picking up the story in Toronto, the sixth ATP masters 1000 of the year but of course there'd been a lot of water under the bridge since Rome – Rafael Nadal winning his 11th French Open and Novak Djokovic confirming that he was well and truly back by taking his fourth Wimbledon and after that Djokovic started as the favourite in Toronto but came up against a red-hot young Greek, Stefanos Tsitsipas who beat him in three sets and afterwards Jill Craybas spoke with his coach and father Apostolos. Onto Cincinnati where all the talk was about Novak Djokovic and a career golden masters and shortly after the Serb clinched victory, he spoke with Paul King. And the plaudits would keep coming for Djokovic after he followed up that success with his third US Open triumph to tie the great Pete Sampras on 14 career grand slams. He would march onto the penultimate ATP Masters 1000 of the year in Shanghai. And it was in China that Lee Goodall went off the beaten track to find out a little more about one of the year's biggest climbers, Georgia's Nikoloz Basilashvili, who had just won his second title of the year in Beijing, which was also just the second of his career. One reason behind that improvement is coach Jan de Witt, formerly with Frenchman Gilles Simon and now enjoying working with the only Georgian at the top of the game. Having beaten Denis Shapovalov, Basilashvili would lose to Shanghai semi finalist Sascha Zverev .. but in the end everyone would bow to Djokovic who beat Borna Coric in the final.. and so we arrived in Paris for the final masters of the year with Djokovic eying the world number 1 ranking. But trumping even that in the headlines was big news in the Grigor Dimitrov camp. Andre Agassi, formerly with Novak of course, was back, this time alongside the struggling Dimitrov and his coach Dani Vallverdu kindly took time out to Seb Lauzier. And if achieving potential is the benchmark for success, one man well ahead of the curve so far is 19-year-old Australian Alex de Minaur. Newcomer of the year in the ATP Awards, he also finished runner-up in the Next Gen finals and closer to home became the Australian number 1 – which is what he was mainly reflecting on when he spoke with Lee Goodall. And from one young man, we finish this week with another… Sascha Zverev's year would finish in the best possible way, achieving the unthinkable for many in beating Novak Djokovic to win his first Nitto ATP Finals.. shortly we'll hear the reaction we got straight afterwards from close friend Marcelo Melo and fitness coach Jez Green.
As the year draws to a close and the players either put their feet up somewhere warm and sunny or get back into the lung-busting job of pre-season training blocks, this week we start to look back on the story of 2018 by hearing again some of our favourite interviews from the first half of the season, from the American hard courts of the tennis mecca that is Indian Wells through to the sun-burnt clay and imperial majesty of Rome. We start in Indian Wells where Sascha Zverev was bidding to follow on from his breakthrough year in 2017. Key to building the Zverev game has been building the Zverev body and the responsibility for that job has fallen squarely on the shoulders of Jez Green. Formerly conditioning coach for Tomas Berdych and more recently Andy Murray, Green spoke with Jill Craybas at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden and shared some of the secrets to his success. We then we move to Miami and another man off and running quicker than ever before in 2018 was Britain's Kyle Edmund, a semi-finalist at the Australian Open and already making huge strides under a new head coach, Freddie Rosengren. Always ready and available to share his thoughts, Freddie spoke with Seb Lauzier in the players' garden in Miami about Kyle's rapid rise. Moving to Europe and on the clay courts of the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters we heard from Boris Becker, before moving to Madrid and a look at tennis in Spain with a legend of that country, Emilio Sanchez. Finally to Rome where along the way there had been plenty for Italian tennis to cheer about, Fabio Fognini rising to the occasion and good wins for Marco Cecchinato and Matteo Berrettini, all of which left the country's Davis Cup captain Corrado Berrazutti in a good mood when he spoke to us alongside the magnificent Pietrangeli court. And remember, these interviews and many more are also available on our 'Exclusives' channel on TuneIn - https://bit.ly/2CNeiz1
