We feel like the most meaningful thing we can do this week is to consider how the CFM initiative/program of the Church has helped you become more vertically connected. Find ways to share your faith in authentic and REAL ways. Talk of Him. Find Him. He is everywhere. — Quotes & Links: Link to FIND HIM New Testament Study Guide:https://www.seagullbook.com/find-him-new-testament-come-follow-me-guidebook.html “The gospel of Jesus Christ has the power to unite us. We are ultimately more alike than we are different. As members of God's family, we are truly brothers and sisters. Paul stated, “And [God] hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth.” (2021–A:53, M. Russell Ballard, Hope in Christ)“I had many pleasant gospel conversations. Good people—heads of states and other high officials in India, Pakistan, Jordan, Israel, Italy, Portugal, and other countries showed sincere interest in the Church and its people. Much Church literature has been mailed to new-found, good friends around the world. Their hospitality and friendliness will never be forgotten. Although we felt especially close to members of the Church, we were impressed with the fact that people everywhere are essentially good. They long for peace. They love their families and seek to improve themselves and raise their standards of living. I came back with a greater love for all of God's children—for he has truly ‘made of one blood all nations'” (Ezra Taft Benson, 1958)—Talk of Him is presented by Seagull Book and hosted by Ganel-Lyn Condie and John Fossum.

Uchtdorf taught, “The weakest among us, through God's grace, can become spiritually strong, because God ‘is no respecter of persons'” (“On Being Genuine,” Ensign or Liahona, May 2015, 80). Instead of focusing on all your weaknesses you are praying will be made strong, reflect on a weakness you have already seen become strengthened. How have grace and the Atonement of Jesus Christ enabled you to transform this weakness to a strength?— Quotes & Links: Link to FIND HIM New Testament Study Guide:https://www.seagullbook.com/find-him-new-testament-come-follow-me-guidebook.html “Can any one of you imagine our Savior letting you and your burdens go unnoticed by Him? The Savior looked upon the Samaritan, the adulterer, the tax collector, the leper, the mentally ill, and the sinner with the same eyes. All were children of His Father. All were redeemable. “Can you imagine Him turning away from someone with doubts about their place in God's kingdom or from anyone afflicted in any manner? I cannot. In the eyes of Christ, each soul is of infinite worth. No one is preordained to fail. Eternal life is possible for all” (Robert C. Gay, “Taking upon Ourselves the Name of Jesus Christ,” Ensign or Liahona, November 2018, 98).“In truth, God does not show favoritism, the things the world values mean nothing to Him. He knows your heart, and He loves you regardless of your title, financial net worth, or number of Instagram followers.” (2020–A:104, Dieter F. Uchtdorf, Come and Belong)—Talk of Him is presented by Seagull Book and hosted by Ganel-Lyn Condie and John Fossum.

How can the story of Paul's miraculous conversion help you love and find hope for that person? This week, pray to see others as God sees them. Ask God to help you see the inherent strengths and goodness of others.— Quotes & Links: Link to FIND HIM New Testament Study Guide:https://www.seagullbook.com/find-him-new-testament-come-follow-me-guidebook.html “The people who would not believe in Jesus believed in nothing—they said they believed in the prophets, but they did not: if they believed in the prophets, in the scriptures, in Moses, or in God, they would believe in Christ—but they do not. The greatest Christian convert was a man who believed all the wrong things about Christ—it was not what he believed, but his capacity for faith that made Saul of Tarsus eligible for immediate enlightenment.”(Hugh Nibley, “Sophic and Mantic,” CWHN 10:331-32)“It is not easy to understand all the circumstances that contribute to someone's attitude or reaction. Appearances can be deceptive and oftentimes do not represent an accurate measurement of someone's behavior. Unlike you and me, Christ is capable of clearly seeing all facets of a given situation. Even knowing all our weaknesses as He does, the Savior does not rashly condemn us but continues to work with us compassionately over time, helping us to remove the beam from our eye” (Elder Ulisses Soares, “The Savior's Abiding Compassion,” Liahona, November 2021).—Talk of Him is presented by Seagull Book and hosted by Ganel-Lyn Condie and John Fossum.

Holland, “Lifted Up Upon the Cross,” Gen Conf, Oct. 2022)“We are pleased to introduce a symbol that will signify the central place of Jesus Christ in His Church. … At the center of the symbol is a representation of [the] … resurrected, living Lord reaching out to embrace all who will come unto Him. Symbolically, Jesus Christ is standing under an arch. The arch reminds us of the resurrected Savior emerging from the tomb on the third day following His Crucifixion.” (President Russell M. Nelson, Gen Conf Apr 2020)“Because he must ultimately tread this winepress of redemption unaided, can he endure the darkest moment of them all, the shock of the greatest pain? This comes not with thorns and with nails, but with the terror of feeling utterly alone: … Can he bear all of our sins and our fear and loneliness too? He did and he does and he will. We do not know how such great sorrow can be borne, but it is no wonder the sun hid its face in shame. No wonder the veil of the temple was rent. No wonder the very earth convulsed at the plight of this perfect child. And at least one Roman centurion who saw all of this sensed something of what it had meant. In awe, he uttered the declaration for all eternity, “Truly this was the Son of God.”  Matt. 27:54” (1989–O:25, Jeffrey R. Perhaps you are hoping that it will help him or her to be nicer to you. I hope it will! But I also hope that you will look deeply into your heart to see if there are shards of pride or jealousy that prevent you from becoming a peacemaker. If you are serious about helping to gather Israel and about building relationships that will last throughout the eternities, now is the time to lay aside bitterness. Now is the time to cease insisting that it is your way or no way. Now is the time to stop doing things that make others walk on eggshells for fear of upsetting you. Examine your discipleship within the context of the way you treat others. I bless you to make any adjustments that may be needed so that your behavior is ennobling, respectful and representative of a true follower of Jesus Christ. Charity is the antidote to contention. Charity is the spiritual gift that helps us to cast off the natural man, who is selfish, defensive, prideful, and jealous. Charity is the principal characteristic of a true follower of Jesus Christ. What is essential is that our labors in the workplace of the Lord have caused us to become something. For some of us, this requires a longer time than for others. What is important in the end is what we have become by our labors. Many who come in the eleventh hour have been refined and prepared by the Lord in ways other than formal employment in the vineyard” (Dallin H. Oaks, “The Challenge to Become,” Ensign, November 2000).“We ought not to think of God's plan as a cosmic vending machine where we (1) select a desired blessing, (2) insert the required sum of good works, and (3) the order is promptly delivered.” (D. Todd Christofferson, Gen Conf, Apr 2022)“With this unique capability and emphasis on the worth of souls in the sight of God also comes the opportunity for confusion. We live in a materialistic world. Some become confused and seek identity through riches or the accolades of men. The Savior makes it very clear in his teachings that it is not possible to realize the identity of which I speak through such means.” (Victor L. He is the author of the book The Continuous Atonement and the Brigham Young University devotional “His Grace Is Sufficient.” Brad currently serves as Second Counselor in the Young Men General Presidency. He and his wife, Debi, have four children and nine grandchildren. Roger has taught seminary and institute in Wyoming, throughout Utah, and at Utah Valley University. As a young man, he served his mission in Germany and he and his wife, Moana, served together in the Washington Spokane Mission. They have five children and fourteen grandchildren. Both Brad and Roger grew up in Provo, Utah, except for their childhood years spent in Ethiopia, Africa. They have been presenters at BYU Women's Conference, youth programs, and workshops for the Church Educational System. In this discussion with Brad and Roger, we talk about their book, Blessed Are Ye, and discuss how the Beatitudes from the Sermon on the Mount outline the covenant path. Brad and Roger recount touching personal experiences with everything from popularity to persecution as they bless us all with their spiritual knowledge. About Blessed Are Ye: Using the Beatitudes to Understand Christ's Atonement and GraceJesus started each Beatitude with the word blessed. It is the English translation of the Latin beatus, meaning “fortunate” or “happy.” However, considering its Hebrew roots, the word can also mean “holy”--even “exalted.” As we study the Beatitudes, they become much more than simply good advice, a code of ethics, or hopeful words for the downtrodden. They can be a holy invitation from Christ Himself to enter a covenant relationship with Him, receive His grace, and become like Him. How can you better emulate Jesus by loving them without condoning their behavior?— Quotes & Links: Link to FIND HIM New Testament Study Guide:https://www.seagullbook.com/find-him-new-testament-come-follow-me-guidebook.html “We know many wounds are self-inflicted and could have been avoided simply by obeying gospel principles. However, to shrug it off as ‘their problem' is not acceptable to the Lord. . . . Although He does not condone sin, His arms are always open to the repentant sinner” (Elder Glenn L. Pace, “A Thousand Times,” Ensign, November 1990). “Don't we all cry out for help and hope and answers to prayers? Don't we all beg for forgiveness for mistakes we have made and troubles we have caused? Don't we all implore that grace will compensate for our weaknesses, that mercy will triumph over justice at least in our case?” (Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, “Are We Not All Beggars?,” Ensign, November 2014).“Jesus's first and foremost messianic duty would be to bless the poor, including the poor in spirit. From the beginning of His ministry, Jesus loved the impoverished and the disadvantaged in an extraordinary way. He was born into the home of two of them and grew up among many more of them. We don't know all the details of His temporal life, but He once said, “Foxes have holes, and … birds … have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.” Apparently the Creator of heaven and earth “and all things that in them are” was, at least in His adult life, homeless. Down through history, poverty has been one of humankind's greatest and most widespread challenges. It's obvious toll is usually physical, but the spiritual and emotional damage it can bring may be even more  debilitating. In any case, the great Redeemer has issued no more persistent call than for us to join Him in lifting this burden from the people. As Jehovah, He said He would judge the house of Israel harshly because “the spoil of the [needy] is in your houses.” [2014–O:40, Jeffrey R. Hearing the Savior's words, the scribes and Pharisees had begun to reason among themselves, ignorantly speaking of blasphemy while concluding that only God can forgive sin. Perceiving their thoughts, the Savior addressed them, saying: ”What reason ye in your hearts? Whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Rise up and walk?” The Savior continued, “But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power upon earth to forgive sins, [He then turned to the paralyzed man] I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy couch, and go into thine house.” And he did! How intimately does God know you and watch over you?—Invitation: All of God's children here on earth showed in premortality that when they see clearly, they choose Jesus Christ. How can (and should) this understanding affect the way that we interact with God's children here on earth, especially with those who may not share our religious beliefs or lifestyle?— Quotes & Links: Link to FIND HIM New Testament Study Guide:https://www.seagullbook.com/find-him-new-testament-come-follow-me-guidebook.html Whenever we fall short in this life, we would each do well to remember that our faith in Jesus Christ saved us “in the beginning” (John 1:1), and our continued faith in the Savior during this life will enable us “to call down the powers of heaven for ourselves, for our families, and for our fellow travelers in this sometimes difficult journey back to our heavenly home” (Thomas S. Monson, “Kindness, Charity, and Love,” Ensign, May 2017). Rest assured, Jesus Christ will save us if we choose to continually hold fast to Him (see 1 Nephi 15:24)! (FIND HIM New Testament Study Guide by Ganel-Lyn Condie and John Fossum, p.7)“Some may think the idea of a society without guile is preposterous in this day. If so, it is because of the power Satan has over the hearts of men. With the Lord's help, the Saints can be without guile. Being honest and fair helps rather than hinders success and prosperity. … Can you imagine a total absence of contention and disputes, with no one ever attempting to deceive another? How would life be if we always were certain, without question, that what others represent to us is true? Theft would be unknown. We would have little use for jails or prisons, and litigation would be rare. The greatest blessing that would come to a society without guile is the individual, personal inner peace that comes to those who know they are doing right and know their lives are acceptable to the Lord. A society without guile is possible.” [1988–A:80, Joseph B. Wirthlin, Without Guile]“The Savior's reply demonstrated an even greater power of perception. He told Nathanael that before Philip had called him to come and see, Jesus saw him under a fig tree. Nathanael apparently had undergone some surpassing spiritual experience while praying, or meditating, or worshiping under a fig tree. The Lord, though absent in body, had been present with Nathanael in spirit. Nathanael then recognized the Savior as the Christ and said, “Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel” [1988–A:80, Joseph B. (Luke 2:15–16; emphasis added).” (Thomas S. Monson, in Conference Report, October 1965, 141).“In my mind, the shepherds represent valued helpers of our communities, the workers who take care of us—first responders, police officers, nurses, gas station attendants, and so many others—who work and watch often when most of us are sleeping the night away. God is just as aware of modern-day workers as He was aware of the Bethlehem field workers of Jesus's time. The light bulb was an invention with 1,000 steps.” Charles F. Kettering called failures “finger posts on the road to achievement.” Hopefully, each mistake we make becomes a lesson in wisdom, turning stumbling blocks into stepping-stones. … Knowing that the strait and narrow path would be strewn with trials and that failures would be a daily occurrence for us, the Savior paid an infinite price to give us as many chances as it would take to successfully pass our mortal probation…. His grace and His loving eye are upon us throughout our entire journey as He inspires, lightens burdens, strengthens, delivers, protects, heals, and otherwise “succor[s] his people,” even as they stumble along the strait and narrow path. (2018–A:21, Lynn G. Robbins, Until Seventy Times Seven)“When Gabriel appears, Mary is a young woman engaged to be married to Joseph (see Luke 1:27). Although we do not know how old Mary was at the time, in antiquity it was possible for marriage contracts to be arranged even before puberty. Gabriel's appearance and declarations that Mary is “highly favoured,” that “the Lord is with thee,” that she is “blessed . . . among women” (Luke 1:28), and that, according to the Joseph Smith Translation of Luke 1:28, she was “chosen” (see also Alma 7:10) must have elicited a mixed reaction of confusion and even fear in Mary. We can only imagine what thoughts might have raced through her mind at that moment, but they could have included questions like, “Why does God consider me to be ‘blessed among women'?” “Why have I ‘found favour with God' and what does that even mean?” (see Luke 1:30) (Gaye Strathearn, “Mary, the Mother of Jesus,” Ensign or Liahona, Jan. 2019)“Do you feel troubled and uncertain about what is being asked of you? As you fall to your knees, pleading for help to do one more day, do you wonder if God is really favoring you in these blessings? Do you worry aboutthe capacity needed for the callings ahead?” (Come to Bethlehem and See, Ganel-Lyn Condie)—Talk of Him is presented by Seagull Book and hosted by Ganel-Lyn Condie and John Fossum.

Our overarching covenant commitment is to do God's will “and to be obedient to his commandments in all things that he shall command us.” (2021, D. Todd Christofferson, Why the Covenant Path) “The Savior invites all to follow Him into the waters of baptism and, in time, to make additional covenants with God in the temple and receive and be faithful to those further essential ordinances. … Consider seriously the enabling laws of the Lord.” (2019, Russell M. This power eases our way. Those who live the higher laws of Jesus Christ have access to His higher power. And I would like to use as a sort of a text for what I say here today a verse that I took from the book of Nahum, chapter 2, in the Bible, which reads as follows: “The chariots shall be with flaming torches in the day of his preparation. … “The chariots shall rage in the streets, they shall justle one against another in the broad ways: they shall seem like torches, they shall run like the lightnings” (Nahum 2:3–4)Could anybody have described an automobile better than that before there was such a thing as an automobile? Certainly they travel like the lightning, and they look like torches—especially in the evening when the lights are on—and they jostle against each other. If you want a demonstration of that, just go to one of the body repair shops and see how many of them come in all bruised!” (1980–A:22, LeGrand Richards, The Scriptures Speak) “The important world events all seem to have been foretold. The people of Noah's day were warned about the flood, and God made known to Sodom and Gomorrah that their evil would draw a rainstorm of fire and brimstone from heaven. Jesus warned Jerusalem of its impending doom and foretold his own death. He announced the apostasy from God and foretold the dark ages that would follow the Savior's rejection.” … “the second coming of Christ is mentioned over 1,500 times in the Old Testament and 300 times in the New Testament. If God thought this subject that important, he must have wanted us to do something about it.” (1966–A:18, Sterling W. Jonah was called on a mission very similar to that of other prophets: he was to cry repentance to a people ripening in iniquity. Unlike other prophets, however, Jonah responded by attempting to flee from his assignment. Had his reason been cowardice, though still wrong, it would have been understandable. The brutality of the Assyrians in the treatment of their enemies was well known. But Jonah's problem does not seem to be cowardice. Rather, it seems to have been resentment against the Lord for giving the hated enemy a chance to repent (see Jonah 4:1–2.)” (Old Testament Student Manual: 1 Kings–Malachi, 3rd ed. [Church Educational System manual, 2003], 97).“While we are grateful for second chances following mistakes, or failures of the mind, we stand all amazed at the Savior's grace in giving us second chances in overcoming sin, or failures of the heart. No one is more on our side than the Savior. … To become like Him will require countless second chances in our day-to-day struggles with the natural man, such as controlling appetites, learning patience and forgiveness, overcoming slothfulness, and avoiding sins of omission, just to name a few. If to err is human nature, how many failures will it take us until our nature is no longer human but divine? Thousands? More likely a million.” (2018–A:21, Lynn G. Robbins, Until Seventy Times Seven)“When Jonah was sent to the city of Nineveh to warn them of their destruction because of wickedness, they repented in sackcloth and ashes, and by decree all in that city fasted and prayed. Their flocks and herds were also required to do without food and drink. God accepted this display of repentance and humility through fasting and prayer and turned aside his anger and the city was not destroyed  Jonah 3:5-10 It seems to me that if a city could obtain such a blessing by fasting and prayer, a nation also could be similarly blessed of God. We as a people, by emphasizing this principle, could obtain great blessings for ourselves and for the Church in general.” (1951–O:123, Delbert L. In coming days, we will see the greatest manifestations of the Savior's power that the world has ever seen. Between now and the time He returns “with power and great glory,” He will bestow countless privileges, blessings, and miracles upon the faithful.” (Overcome the World and Find Rest, Pres. Russell M. Nelson, Oct. 2022)“I am more afraid that this people have so much confidence in their leaders that they will not inquire for themselves of God whether they are lead by him. I am fearful they settle down in a state of blind self-security, trusting their eternal destiny in the hands of their leaders with a reckless confidence that in itself would thwart the purpose of God in their salvation, and weaken that influence [SUSTAINING!] they could give to their leaders [if] they [knew] for themselves by the revelations of Jesus that they are led in the right way. Let every man and woman know, by the whispering of the Spirit of God to themselves whether their leaders are walking in the path the lord dictates or not. This has been my exhortation continually.” (Brigham Young, Deseret News February 12th, 1862, 257 [PDF])“Be kind regarding human frailty—your own as well as that of those who serve with you in a Church led by volunteer, mortal men and women.... Imperfect people are all God has ever had to work with. That must be terribly frustrating to Him, but He deals with it. So should we. And when you see imperfection, remember that the limitation is not in the divinity of the work....So be patient and kind and forgiving.” (Jeffrey R. Holland, CR, April 2013)“Obadiah prophesied of the destruction of the Edomites, who were the descendants of Esau, the brother of Jacob. This destruction was a consequence of their pride and their mistreatment of Israel. Obadiah also prophesied of the restoration of Israel and of saviors on Mount Zion” (“Lesson 151: Obadiah,” Old Testament Seminary Teacher Manual [2015]).“I can see youth who understand what it means to be ‘saviours . . . on mount Zion.' I can see youth whose hearts are turned to their fathers. And I can envision youth growing up in such a way that they will c

From the day that He and His Beloved Son manifested themselves to the boy Joseph, there has been a tremendous cascade of enlightenment poured out upon the world. The hearts of men have turned to their fathers in fulfillment of the words of Malachi. The vision of Joel has been fulfilled.”(2001–O:4, Gordon B. Jesus Christ is the strength of youth. … It's also important to know what For the Strength of Youth does not do. It doesn't make decisions for you. It doesn't give you a “yes” or “no” about every choice you might ever face. For the Strength of Youth focuses on the foundation for your choices.
