Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for Information about all your favorite fictional universes Just like that, the much discussed, but never official, Nova Disney Plus series, has gone from rumored to confirmed with Deadline reporting the onboarding of a showrunner: Criminal Minds' Ed Bernero. Bernero, who also co-created the Criminal Minds spinoff, Suspect Behavior, will serve as writer and showrunner for the Richard Ryder-focused series. Additionally, off the heels of last week's reports about Chris Evans' return to the MCU in Avengers: Doomsday, last Friday, Variety broke the news that Evans' frequent scene partner, Hayley Atwell is also expected to reprise her role as Agent Peggy Carter. While the DCU officially launched earlier this month with the premiere of Creature Commandos on Max, James Gunn's first live action offering, next summer's Superman, unveiled its official poster via social media Monday morning. The image, a motion graphic, is an obvious allusion to Christopher Reeves' take on the character, and showcases David Corenswett's Superman ascending in flight, accompanied by a remix of John Williams' classic score and a tagline that reads, ‘Look up.' Exciting details; all of which preempts the gut punch that the official teaser trailer will not release until Thursday… (Thanks, James…) Elsewhere, horror filmmaker Mike Flanagan has been given the go ahead to write his standalone Clayface film. Without a director attached yet, it's unclear whether this film will be a part of the Matt Reeves The Batman/Penguin crime Elseworld, though Gunn referred to it as a DCU film. Currently slated for a September 2026 release, Flanagan previously described it as a horror/thriller/tragedy while expressing interest back as early as 2021. Kraven the Hunter, the latest and perhaps final entry of Sony's Spider-Man-less universe, opened this weekend to a disappointing $11 million total, a franchise low. In the wake of this fumble, just the most recent in a long string, many a Sony insider have come out of the woodwork to spill the tea, resulting in the internet being ablaze with claims that the studio is finally pulling the plug. But, not so fast! While it does sound like Sony will stop making spin-offs without Spider-Man, the studio remains quote, ‘deeply invested' in projects that include the marquee character and his many variations, including the Spider-Man Noir series that is in production in partnership with Amazon. Michael Gracey is in talks to direct Disney's live-action Tangled with a screenplay by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson  from the I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot. Variety has learned that Austin Butler is set to star in Luca Guadagnino‘s new interpretation of the book “American Psycho” by Bret Easton Ellis for Lionsgate. Per Deadline, Joseph Quinn is reportedly set to play George Harrison in Sam Mendes' upcoming Beatles biopic series. Barry Keoghan will portray Ringo Starr, Paul Mescal is expected to play Paul McCartney, and Harris Dickinson is the frontrunner for John Lennon. Marvel Comics announced Godzilla vs. Marvel, a six-issue one-shot series marking their first Godzilla crossover in nearly 50 years. The series spans different time periods, starting with a Fantastic Four story. Malcolm in the Middle is returning for a four-episode revival on Disney+ to celebrate its 25th anniversary. Original stars Frankie Muniz, Bryan Cranston, and Jane Kaczmarek will reprise their roles as Malcolm and his parents, Hal and Lois. The Hollywood Reporter claims Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach pitched a Barbie sequel to Warner Bros., but both their rep and the studio deny it. “There is no legitimacy to this,” says the filmmakers' rep, while Warner Bros. calls the report “inaccurate.” The previously announced DCU film Dynamic Duo has received a release date of June 30th, 2028.

Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for information about all your favorite fictional Universes. Milly Alcock will show us her superhero landing when Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow premieres on June 26, 2026. Other than Sasha Calle's portrayal in The Flash, this means we'll see Superman's cousin Kara Zor-El on the big screen for the first time since 1984. The film will be released just a year after we see James Gunn's vision for the man of steel himself.  In a move that seems telling of the new direction of MCU, the Marvel Television banner has been reintroduced and will be used for live action series such as Daredevil: Born Again, Agatha All Along, and Ironheart. The banner was previously used for MCU-adjacent shows Agents of SHIELD, Cloak & Dagger, and others. Brad Winderbaum, head of TV, streaming, and animation for Marvel Studios, said the idea is to let audiences know they can “jump in anywhere” in the MCU and still understand what's going on. Winderbaum also alluded to a Marvel Studios rebrand that encompasses Marvel Television, Marvel Animation, and Marvel Spotlight. HBO's streaming service Max released a teaser trailer for the upcoming Dune television spinoff show, Dune: Prophecy. The show is described as taking place 10,000 years before the events that lead to Paul Atreides' rise to emperor and will follow two Harkonnen sisters as they work to establish the Bene Gesserit. Inspired by the book Sisterhood of Dune, the show has mostly been kept under wraps until now. Movie goers probably should have bought a ticket for themselves and their imaginary friends last weekend as John Krasinski's new film IF didn't quite reach expectations with a $35 million opening in the U.S. Although this means it took first place at the box office, the movie cost $110 million to make and a global box office of $55 million is still a stumble. There may be hope yet for the kid-centered flick with a lot of schools across the country ready to enter summer break. Hot off the heels of an incredibly well received first season of X-Men '97, Marvel Studios seems to have found the voice of their live-action X-Men in screenwriter Michael Lesslie. Lesslie's writing credits include Assassin's Creed, The Hunger Games: A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, as well as the upcoming Now You See Me 3. While both parties are still in talks, if the addition pans out, it will be the most significant step to actualizing the X-Men in the MCU since Disney's acquisition of Fox in 2019. Poker Face and Russian Doll star Natasha Lyonne has joined the cast of Fantastic Four in an undisclosed role. Lionsgate is developing a John Wick spinoff movie around Donnie Yen's assassin character, Caine. Yen will reprise his John Wick: Chapter 4 role in the untitled project set to shoot in Hong Kong in 2025. The franchise expanding film, with no director yet announced, will follow the events of John Wick 4 as Caine has been freed from his obligations to the High Table. 1996 golf comedy Happy Gilmore is officially getting a sequel at Netflix with Adam Sandler returning to reprise his role. Amazon's Marvel drama Silk: Spider Society — from Sony Pictures Television — is no longer moving forward at the streamer but Sony does plan to shop the series to another studio or streaming service. Sony Pictures announced last week that I Know What You Did Last Summer, a reboot of the film with the same name as the original 1997 horror slasher, is set for theatrical release domestically on July 18, 2025. Jennifer Kaytin Robinson will direct and Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze, Jr. are currently in early talks to return. Last week, Disney announced that Hulu is teaming with the estate of author James Clavell to extend the FX series Shōgun for two additional seasons. A writer's room is currently being assembled. Shōgun is currently the most viewed show in FX's history.

The actor explains that he has appreciated how he has been able to continuously reinvent the character, citing Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame as yet another unique chapter in his journey as Thor. "I've said this before but when it becomes too familiar, I think there's a risk in getting lazy then because I know what I'm doing," he said. "I don't know if I'm even invited back, but if I was, I think it would have to be a drastically different version in tone, everything, just for my own sanity… [laughs] Thor lost his mind that last one. He's got to figure it out now."   While in the past Hemsworth has claimed he would play Thor forever, he recently admitted that he thinks a fifth film would have to be his last. He acknowledged that, much like Robert Downer Jr.'s Iron Man and Chris Evans's Captain America, a conclusion for Thor is inevitable. "I feel like it probably warrants that. I feel like it'd probably be the finale, but that's not based on anything anyone's told me or any sort of plans. You have this birth of a hero, the journey of a hero, then the death of a hero, and I don't know—am I at that stage? Who knows?"   From June 23rd, 2022: Chris Hemsworth Plans to Stop Playing Thor Before Fans Want Him To https://www.cbr.com/chris-hemsworth-explains-needs-mcu-thor/ Thor: Love and Thunder star Chris Hemsworth recently discussed his limit when it comes to playing iconic Marvel Cinematic Universe superhero Thor. Hemsworth revealed how he'll know when it's time to step away from the role that made him a star in an interview with Total Film MAgazine. "Each time, if the opportunity comes up and presents itself [to play Thor], I'm just open to whatever creative exploration can happen, thanks to different writers and directors and so on," he said. "But I love playing the character, I really do. It always comes down to: 'Is this script different to the last one? Are we repeating something?' And when it becomes too familiar, I think that's when I'd have to say, 'Yeah, no, this doesn't... I think I've...' [laughs] I'd like to exit before people tell me to exit."   From June 22nd, 2022: Chris Hemworth would play Thor again – if it's something different https://www.gamesradar.com/chris-hemsworth-thor-return-chances-love-and-thunder/ As reported by Games Radar+, Feige is happy for Thor to get a potential fifth or sixth film due to sheer number of tales that revolve around the Norse God that could be put to the big screen. "I know this: there are many, many other Thor stories in the comics that we talk about a lot," he said. "And as we watch Chris Hemsworth continue to grow and evolve as a major acting talent, I would be excited to see how he keeps evolving this complex character."   Walt Disney CFO, Others Brought Concerns to Board Over Bob Chapek Bob Chapek Shifted Budgets to Disguise Disney+'s Massive Monetary Losses https://www.wsj.com/articles/walt-disney-cfo-others-brought-concerns-to-board-over-bob-chapek-11669072222 https://www.cbr.com/bob-chapek-shifted-budgets-disguise-disney-plus-losses/ Per The Wall Street Journal, "people familiar with the matter" shared that shows intended to be (and billed as) Disney+ originals, including The Mysterious Benedict Society and Doogie Kameāloha, M.D., were aired first on other networks, such as the Disney Channel, so their production and marketing budgets wouldn't be counted against Disney+. In this way, the streaming service was seen as losing less money on original content. Chief Financial Officer Christine McCarthy, who was reportedly one of the voices behind Chapek's removal, was "concerned about this strategy."   Chapek had a lot riding on Disney+, as he had promised investors that Disney's streaming division, which also includes Hulu and ESPN+, would be profitable by 2024. However, 164 million subscribers for Disney+, roughly two-thirds of Netflix's current number, and $30 billion invested in content in 2022 alone haven't been enough to stop losses from increasing for the last four quarters. Overall, the streaming division has lost more than $8.5 billion since Disney+ launched in 2019.   OUTRO AND BONUS AUDIO [1:19:30]   We would love to hear back from you! Da Bois struggled their way onto the podcast with resentment in their eye for Enrique who was the one who purposefully placed a bad movie into the list to add chaos to the podcast. The chaos backfired as the movie out to be even less redeemable than they had thought it was going to be with the last 30 minutes flipping the script in an unforeseen way. Da Bois talk about the possible sexploitation of Camila Mendes in the film, Maya Hawke being typecast as awkward lesbian girl, and the overall hyperbole of high school in the movie. Next week, Da Bois will delve back into the Netflix Marvel Universe when they talk about Big Pun in his classic show, Punisher! “I just love storytelling,” Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, in regards to how she got involved with screenwriting. “I loved writing as a kid. I wrote children's books. I loved telling stories. I loved putting on shows in my living room. At more core, I love storytelling and the theater of it.” As a writer, Jennifer's credits include the TV series Sweet/Vicious, and the movies Someone Great, Unpregnant, Do Revenge, and Thor: Love and Thunder. “I like playing in different genres, but what I do lean towards are stories about women and stories about trauma, told in entertaining packages.” “The sweet spot, in terms of the stories I tell, is finding these emotional stories and putting them in these heightened environments.” In her premiere series, for example, Sweet/Vicious was about two vigilantes in collect who wanted justices for campus abuse. The “guttural” idea was “what if Quentin Tarantino wrote Girls? What would that look like?” This idea excited her and stayed with her. When she sold this script, she had about ten years of experience meeting people and “trying to figure out where there's a crack in the door where I can open the door further to step through the door.” Subscribe for video interviews on YouTube: www.youtube.com/c/CreativePrinciples?sub_confirmation=1 If you enjoy the podcast, would you please consider leaving a short review on Apple Podcasts? In which the Mister and Monsters join me in reviewing THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER (2022) which is currently streaming on Disney+. In the latest installment of the Thor story, director Taika Waititi shares screenplay credits with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson to continue Thor's (Chris Hemsworth) story after the events of INFINITY WAR. It's explained that Thor has carried on with the Guardians of the Galaxy to help those in dire need of assistance. He's alerted to some trouble afoot with Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale). He departs but not before Peter (Chris Pratt) imparts the lesson of it's better to have been hurt and have loved than to not have loved at all. The script is over the top but the subtle nuances of that message, which is woven throughout the film and highlighted in all the interactions between Thor and Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), and the end sequence really made this film for me. The film has a run time of 1 h 58 m, and is rated PG-13. Please note there are SPOILERS in this review. Thor Odinson makes his triumphant return to the MCU with the franchise's latest installment, Thor: Love and Thunder, once again starring Chris Hemsworth in the titular role alongside Natalie Portman, Christian Bale, and writer-director Taika Waititi. Waititi's co-writer, Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, discusses the process of landing her first Marvel gig: “My journey with Marvel has been long; I pitched on Black Widow, I pitched on Hawkeye, I pitched on Captain Marvel 2, so I pitched on several different films. Kevin [Feige] is so specific and such a genius when it comes to putting the right person on the right project… and Kevin was like, ‘This is not the right thing for you, but we're going to put you on Thor...' and then a week later, I was in a room with Brad [Winderbaum] and Taika talking about the lore and coming onto the project.”   Robinson goes on to share the importance of pushing yourself and not being afraid to make mistakes: "Don't let the fear of the thing being bad or wrong or weird get in the way of you doing it... If you mess up, if you fail like I've failed, it's fine... you just have to blindly believe in yourself because no one is going to care about you as much as you. No one is going to believe in you as much as you."   Thor: Love and Thunder is now playing in theaters.   Don't forget to subscribe to the Write On Podcast on iTunes!   Now available on Google Podcasts!

Thor: Love and Thunder is a 2022 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character Thor, produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. It is the direct sequel to Thor: Ragnarok (2017) and the 29th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The film is directed by Taika Waititi, who co-wrote the script with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, and stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor alongside Christian Bale, Tessa Thompson, Jaimie Alexander, Waititi, Russell Crowe, and Natalie Portman. In the film, Thor attempts to find inner peace, but must return to action and recruit Valkyrie (Thompson), Korg (Waititi), and Jane Foster (Portman)—who is now the Mighty Thor—to stop Gorr the God Butcher (Bale) from eliminating all gods. Hemsworth and Waititi had discussed plans for a sequel to Ragnarok by January 2018. Love and Thunder was announced in July 2019, with Hemsworth, Waititi, and Thompson all set to return, as well as Portman who did not appear in Ragnarok. Waititi wanted to differentiate Love and Thunder from Ragnarok, seeking to make a romance film and 1980s-inspired adventure. He adapted elements from Jason Aaron's run on the Mighty Thor comic book, which sees Foster take on the mantle and powers of Thor whilst suffering from cancer. Robinson joined to contribute to the script in February 2020, and further casting was revealed later that year including the appearance of the Guardians of the Galaxy. Production was expected to begin in late 2020 but was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Filming ultimately began in January 2021 in Sydney, Australia, and concluded at the beginning of June. Thor: Love and Thunder premiered at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood on June 23, 2022, and was released in the United States on July 8, 2022, as part of Phase Four of the MCU. The film received praise for its light-heartedness and cast performances (particularly those of Bale and Portman), but was criticized for its tonal inconsistency and screenplay. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/popcorn-junkies/message

Along the way, their time together brings them closer but also discoveries are made that drive them apart. Will Veronica make her appointment and get her procedure? Will Bailey still be there to bail her out? Not a perfect film but really enjoyable and a film that can be the catalyst to open up dialog with the young people in your life, especially after today's disastrous news of the SCOTUS overturning Roe v. Wade. The film has a run time of 1 h 43 m, and is rated PG-13. Please note there are SPOILERS in this review.
