Rocket City meets Music City as we talk with Olivia Christian, Marketing Director for tvg hospitality – a hospitality group that focuses on fan and artist experiences. Olivia tells us all about tvg's flagship and first U.S. venue, The Orion Amphitheater in Huntsville, AL, which is an 8,000 capacity greek-inspired amphitheater which opened in spring 2022. In addition to hosting many national touring shows, the venue focuses on being the “third space” for people (after home and work) with a huge focus on community and cultural events, sustainability practices, and hospitality for everyone visiting. The venue's focus on sustainability includes zero waste to landfills, a reusable cup program (reused over 500,000 cups since opening!), and allowing water bottles with water stations throughout the venue. They also have an artist garden with fruits, vegetables, and herbs that are used as garnish for drinks and used in food as well as a special bar named “Carbon” which donates $1 from every purchase to Tennessee Riverkeeper to protect rivers by enforcing environmental laws and educating the public. We chat with Olivia about her history in live events, which includes runs at Ryman Auditorium, War Memorial Auditorium, Tennessee Performing Arts Center, and promoter National Shows 2 (NS2). Enjoy this fun, informative episode that's sure to inspire you to follow your passion, buck venue stereotypes, and have a greater appreciation for a good marketing mix.Olivia Christian: LinkedIn | Emailtvg hospitality: Facebook | Instagram | LinkedInThe Orion Amphitheater: Facebook | Instagram ––––––ADVENTURES IN VENUELANDFollow on Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, or X/TwitterLearn more about Event & Venue Marketing ConferenceMeet our team:Paul Hooper | Co-host, Booking, Branding & MarketingDave Redelberger | Co-host & Guest ResearchMegan Ebeck | Marketing, Design & Digital AdvertisingSamantha Marker | Marketing, Copywriting & PublicityCamille Faulkner | Audio Editing & MixingHave a suggestion for a guest or bonus episode? Former Mayor Karl Dean was known to ask, rhetorically and always in good humor, what Nashville would be without music (answer: Birmingham), but he could have substituted “the Ingrams” for music and arrived at the same punchline. There are few beloved things in Music City without fingerprints, known and unknown, that in some way trace back or connect to the Ingram family. While Martha Ingram was the driving force behind, among many other things, the Tennessee Performing Arts Center and the Schermerhorn Symphony Center, her son John, who now serves as Chairman of Ingram Industries, is the driving force behind one of Music City's latest loves: Major League Soccer in the form of Nashville SC! The story of how John and his carefully assembled team brought MLS to Music City has been told before, but never quite like this. A favorite part of the conversation with John involves his telling of why the green light at the end of Daisy's dock in The Great Gatsby has always spoken to him, "it's all about possibilities." When John sees the green light, "that's where [he's] headed." And, we think that's where Nashville is headed, as well.

Dr Emma Cahill Marron joins Deb in an intriguing discussion of Catherine of Aragon as you've never imagined her. Catherine, born to be a queen, was also a patron of the arts and culture. Dr Cahill brings Catherine of Aragon alive in the discussion. Dr Cahill Marron is an art and cultural historian. Over the last decade, she has published extensively about the cultural and artistic relations between the Tudor dynasty and the Spanish Monarch. Her study showed that as Queen of England, she was a patron of the arts that played a pivotal role in the introduction of Renaissance and Humanism into the court she presided over. Dr Cahill Marron is currently developing research linking female patrons and women artists in Tudor England that aims to show the continuity in this practice between Queen Catherine and her daughter Queen Mary I. Delta Dental is comprised of a network of companies to help you connect to your dental insurance and improve your oral health. To improve the overall wellness of the people in the communities we serve through our products, advocacy, education, and philanthropy. • Our Mission is “Ensuring healthy smiles” – the “e” is intentional as our mission is not just about the products we sell, it's also a reflection of our focus on service and the communities we serve. • A smile can impact the whole health of a person—from being able to chew and eat nutritious food, to being able to speak, to the mental state and self-esteem. At Delta Dental, we believe everyone deserves a healthy smile and our work is a reflection of this belief. • Our advocacy work has helped to expand the Tennessee Dental Safety Net from simply reimbursing clinics for pulling teeth to relieve pain to include supplemental funding for dentures and partials to help restore the smiles for the working poor. • The clinics we support in Middle TN – Interfaith Dental Clinic and Neighborhood Health – are bringing smiles back to our neighbors. • Children's hospitals across the state, including Monroe Carell Jr Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt, are equipped to meet the oral health needs of the patients on those campuses—a child needing radiation or chemo cannot go to the dentist but they also cannot start that needed treatment if there is any infection in the body, including the mouth. • Tennessee's two dental schools, including Meharry, have simulation labs and other spaces we have helped fund to help ensure they are best prepared to treat patients. • We believe an educated society will be a healthy society. Our corporate philanthropy includes programs like Governor's Books from Birth Foundation and Tennessee Performing Arts Center, both with programs to help enrich the education of our youth so they may grow to a healthy adulthood.
