One of the D's is Dungeons, but the other isn't Dragons. Trust in the almighty Xbox Game Pass "Surprise Me" button and ye shall be rewarded... apparently. The pick for this episode is the deck-building dungeon-crawler developed by Terry Cavanagh that utilizes the most classic random number generator to determine outcomes of its turn-based encounters. The deck-building portion ensures that the game-loop is more complicated than just some six-sided dice rolls, but the premise stays pretty simple. Our hosts have each spent an hour iterating the game loop and now are ready to bring you their final decision. Will these dice keep rolling? Find out now! What do you think? Let us know! Welcome back to Pursuing Pixels. We're missing Randall as he studies up for his final exams, but the rest of us were able to sync up on a handful of games for this week's episode, so let's get right into it... John & DJ get things started off with some more thoughts on Dark Souls II, which John booted up last week to share his initial impressions—and it seems like things are starting to turn around for John! From there, we all dive into Celeste 2: Lani's Trek, a brand new PICO-8 Celeste 'sequel' of sorts that was released by the developers for the game's third anniversary. What an awesome way to celebrate?!? Speaking of celebrations, we also all checked out Ugby Mumba 3 from Milkbar Lads, which was released in celebration of Pixel Day 2021 over at Newgrounds! Tiny Heist from Terry Cavanagh is yet another game we all were able to some time with this week, and is even more evidence of Terry's game design brilliance! We close things out with the wild & wacky adventure game, The Good Time Garden, from Coal Supper, which leaves us wondering just what the hell is going on...
A my, razem z innymi fanami branży filmowej, będziemy komentować wybory komisji przyznającej wyróżniania i główne wygrane. Terry Cavanagh and Stephen Levelle (also known as Increpare) teamed up back in 2011 to create the video game equivalent of a short story. Oíche Mhaith (Irish for "good night") is free, takes about 20 minutes to complete, and will leave you a sobbing mess. It features some NSFW language and images if you're interested in giving it a try. It's basically an M-rated, 8-bit flash game about a broken family as experienced by a kid. If you are looking for a game that will haunt you for days, Oíche Mhaith will give you much to think about. You can find and play Oíche Mhaith on the Increpare website: https://ded.increpare.com/~locus/oiche_mhaith/ Outro music: VVVVVV 'Clubbed Baby VVVVVVeal' by Danny Baranowsky (http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR02205) You can follow the show on Twitter: @BestGamesPeriod Or download the podcast from Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/thebestgamesperiod Support us on Patreon! - https://www.patreon.com/bestgamesperiod

The OLL recorded before a #THIRDSDAY is fraught with danger. This one is no exception. Especially as we had World Cup (and Cricket (and hen do)) Fever. Could we do our usual exceptional radio show whilst knowing that commentators could be confused by goal line technology as we spoke. SPOILERS: Of course we could, we're (unpaid) professionals. And Simon is still making steps towards becoming a professional games programmer / designer (Up, Down, Left, Right available for Android devices) so we went to someone with more experience in that area. Even though he's twelve years old. We got Sam Smith from Boxface Games in the studio to talk about his game Spacepants, what it's like being our grandchild and why Terry Cavanagh won't return his calls. We also found that Ann can't whistle, that Simon can now make really good jokes about programming and try to figure out what's in THQ's bins. And as Ste was in charge of curating the music we had Sega Badawi making a return. It's an excellent show and one that you will show your appreciation of by attending #THIRDSDAY.
This week Cara, Craig and Tom are joined by serial betrayer Edward Fenning in an uncharacteristic sausage fest of a podcast. In it Ed explains the bizarre metanarrative of Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag, Cara tells us how she ruined Terry Cavanagh’s career and Tom extolls the virtues of XCOM: Enemy Within’s battle fedora. Plus the […]
