Vi är extra nöjda med kvällens laguppställning på filmmenyn. Vi är ju som bekant stora förespråkare av independentfilm och tack vare producenten och skådespelaren Sara Hagnö har vi fått tagit del av det finfina thriller-dramat THE ART OF TELLING LIES. Filmen heter : IS THIS THING ON? Där har ni tillsammans med med lite trailertips kvällens program. Det blir kul. Vi lovar!
America does better with George Washington's mythical, "I cannot tell a lie", than we are doing with Donald Trump's serial lies. And that's the truth.

This episode is all about the book The Game of Life and How to Play it by Florence Schovel Shinn and all the mistakes, lies and shitty behaviour I had. Firstly, I tell you about a lie I told my husband. I said I paid $1,000 for a manifestation coach and I paid $6,000. I then said some shitty things about an ex - these are all LESSONS.Highly recommend the BOOK but beware - you will start analyzing yourself - so be ready! Hosted on Acast. After a fun grocery store trip, Ozzie and his mom are on their way home when they hear their car make unusual sounds. Instead of heading home, they take a detour to see their favorite mechanic! With help from Ozzie, mechanic Hassan hands over a special checklist and teaches Ozzie how to help diagnose the problem. After some searching and poking around… they find the cause: two of Ozzie's toys stuck deep inside the engine! Embarrassed, Ozzie makes up a story about how the toys got there—but pretty quickly, his heart feels heavy. He decides to tell his mom the truth. They sit and talk, and Ozzie learns that even when it's hard, telling the truth is always the right thing to do. Back at the garage, Ozzie proudly helps Hassan fix things up—and even gets to lend a tentacle (er, hand!) later when Sammy's dad rolls around their block with a scooter mystery!Support the show

The last episode had us looking at the age old tradition of telling lies, so it only seems right to go the other way! Speaking truth though, can often get the speaker in trouble unless done in a careful way! This week, G. Long and Deb are discussing satire in history. Satire, especially comedic satire, has been used to speak truth about leaders, despots, society, religion, and everything in between for more than a thousand years. Plato, Erasmus, Swift, Twain, and others have demonstrated that satire is often more effective in cutting through the bullsh*t, than even the sharpest knife. We take a look at satire in history on this episode of the Long in the Boot Podcast! Thanks For Listening! Artists create, podcast, and destroy. Welcome back to the podcast where today we're going to be talking about Immortality. Immortality is a game from Sam Barlow, creator of Her Story and Telling Lies and it follows in the same tradition as those games. Largely player-directed, the game involves watching clips of three films and footage associated with them in order to gain an understanding of what happened to the people involved. There is a set point at which the game shows you its credits, but whether you feel done at that point is largely up to you. Differing from the previous games, rather than inputting text to find clips, you click on elements in scenes to cut between them, following actors or props or other elements to see new things, and you can control the speed of playback and even play in reverse. Your understanding of these mechanics and how the internal logic of the match cuts works really determine what kind of agency you can exercise in solving the mysteries, so your milage may vary depending on how much you liked the core loop of Her Story in comparison to this one. Even so, the technical prowess on display here is still incredible, with a surprising dedication to capturing the feel of the eras of film each of the game's three movies represent and performances that don't feel like an imitation so much as part of film canon themselves. We're going to be talking about the feeling of playing Immortality as compared to other games, the surprising directions the narrative takes and how it differed from our own interpretations, and in a spiritual successor to Haunting Those ROMs, we discuss what may be haunting THIS footage. Thank you for joining us again this week! Immortality has been on the list for a while because we have a particular soft spot for Her Story and how different that game felt to anything else, and while this is more refinement than innovation, it's still a really impressive title and would probably give you a similar feeling to us if it is the first of Sam Barlow's games you've played. Did you pick up on the game's secrets? Did you struggle to rewind because you were playing with a mouse? Let us know in the comments or over on our Discord! Next time, we're going to be talking about Monster Hunter Wilds, so I hope you join us then and that you have some free time in the coming weeks.

You are listening to our weekday Summer Podcast series where we are using this summer as a RESET — an opportunity for us to return to what matters most! This week, we are exploring being "active in service." Today's reading centers around Romans 12:3-5. We all struggle with making excuses at times, don't we? Excuses for avoiding things that are good for us, like exercising. Or excuses for overlooking important responsibilities like calling a loved one on their birthday. Nowhere do the excuses seem to come more easily than when it comes to serving at church. The truth is, each of us has been gifted by God with unique abilities and strengths we can contribute, as Romans 12 reminds us. We may sometimes struggle to see the gifts in ourselves, but they are there. And those gifts matter- they are an essential part of the body of Christ. Without them, there are real gaps and needs that go unmet. For more information, check out portcity.church/summer!

Devastating polling, the return of Nigel Farage and more talk of defections - it was almost looking like a truly nightmarish week for Rishi Sunak, but then came the TV leaders debate with Keir Starmer and the Conservative's claim that a Labour government will raise taxes by £2,000 per household. Keir Starmer failed to effectively deny the Conservative attack line until the second half of the debate and called it a lie. Today, Labour are again saying it is a lie and the Treasury have distanced themselves from it - but, perhaps, as the old saying goes, a lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has got its shoes on. Two weeks into the election campaign, are we entering a new dirtier phase to this campaign? Joining me in the Fourcast studio, Labour's shadow attorney general Emily Thornberry, the Conservative's Home Office Minister Chris Philp, and pollster Luke Tryl from More in Common. Nainita Desai is an award-winning composer whose work has spanned creative formats, from documentaries like The Reason I Jump where she won an Emmy for Outstanding Music Composition, to TV series like Funny Women, to video games like Telling Lies and Immortality. With over 150 credits to her name, Nainita is nothing short of prolific. In the following interview, Nainita talks about her journey into becoming a composer and how Peter Gabriel impacted her career. While we don't touch on her education in mathematics, it plays a vital role in her career as a composer, guiding her interest in sound design as well as composition. From here, our discussion leads into talking about the role of nature in her work, as heard in films like The Deepest Breath, and the 2024 Sundance award-winning film Nocturnes. In both of these films, the role of the ocean and the mountains is as important as the world of the people we are following, and Nainita talks about the way that she reflects those characters journeys in her compositions.Equally important is the role that silence plays in her work. Nainita talks about the role that silence plays as the unspoken instrument for a composer, and how important it is to relinquish the score to amplify the drama of a scene. As a flow on of this discussion point, Nainita talks about the difficulty of knowing that not all aspects of her score will end up in the final film. This wonderfully insightful conversation flows between creativity and personal journeys, with Nainita giving us an in depth look at the mind of a composer. This conversation was recorded ahead of Nainita's upcoming appearance at the Australian International Documentary Conference, which opens in Melbourne on 3 March 2024. Nainita will be presenting a discussion called The Art of Composing for Documentary with Nainita Desai, alongside moderator Emma Bortignon. As we close out this interview, I asked Nainita about the importance of being accessible for interviews and panel discussions, which leads Nainita to reflect on the role of being a mentor for emerging composers, particularly women composers. First of all, it hurts my heart to know that someone has been spreading lies about you. I have been the subject of many lies myself, especially when I was in middle school and high school. One of those lies was so bad that if others had believed it, it could have gotten me in some really big trouble. But even with those lies that were spread about me, it seems like rumors and lies have become common today, especially among teens. You may have heard of this, I'm on TikTok, but I read an article about this a couple days ago and I wish I could say it surprised me, but it really doesn't. But there is a new trend on TikTok where TikTokers are “exposing gossipers” by when they overheard others gossiping about someone, they air everything on video, sometimes getting down to the very detail of what these gossipers look like so people know who they are and who it is they are talking about.” So, essentially, they are gossiping about gossipers, making fun of the gossipers, but also hurting a whole lot of people in the process. It's crazy, but it's become such common place that we don't even think about it when people talk to us about others…or we talk to others about someone else. A quick tip about your friends, if they are talking to you behind someone's back, they are most likely talking about you behind your back. Okay, so back to the question, “What do I do when someone is spreading lies about me at school?” When someone tells a lie about us, we instantly want to defend ourselves by telling everyone that it's not true or even by going to the person spreading the lies and confront them. However, the problem is, when we do this, one, it makes us look guilty and two it causes more challenges. It basically adds fuel to the fire. They want a reaction out of you, and you just gave it to them. People want to make others feel bad to make themselves feel better, the problem with that is that they actually feel better. You might be thinking, “Yeah, but they are the most popular people in school.” It doesn't matter. Actually, many times, the most popular people in school are some of the most insecure people. They gain their identity and social status from the people around them, and if they mess up, they lose it all. When they are at home by themselves at the end of the day, they usually hate who they are.To learn what to do when people spread lies about you, check out this week's episode of the UncommonTEEN Podcast!UncommonTEEN Live Tickets go on Sale December 1st! It's time yet again for Constellation, Last Stand's conversational podcast. This week, the Brothers Moriarty are joined by Sacred Symbols co-host Chris Ray Gun and Punching Up co-host Micah Watson. Micah brings a heavy and personal topic to the show this week: Her upbringing as a Jehovah's Witness. How did faith affect her life, and why did she ultimately decide to walk away? Chris' topic, meanwhile, is a bit more ethereal, as he wants to explore the variables in our lives that ended up having a major effect down the road. How did we become the way we are, anyway? Dagan, meanwhile, wants to get into lying: The lies we've told and been victimized by, the role of lying in polite society, and all of the ramifications therein. Finally, Colin wants to know everyone's contemporary gut reactions to Apple Inc., the famous American company with a perpetually dominant position in our culture. Why do so many people love Apple? And how come this specific corporation draws such visceral reactions from others? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Ocean Vuong is one of the most beloved and acclaimed contemporary writers – his 2016 award-winning first poetry collection, Night Sky with Exit Wounds, was published before he finished his MFA. But his sudden success has come with some pitfalls, and has illuminated some practical skills he hasn't learned. “In some ways, I feel kind of like a child actor,” he said to Anna. Ocean's partner and his younger half brother drive him places and accompany him on trips. “I tell my family, if it wasn't for you guys, if it was just me, I would be in a studio with just a single mattress surrounded by books stacked from the floor up,” he said. But sharing the benefits of his professional accomplishments is a big part of how Ocean lives with his family and shows up for his friends. He talks about falling in love with poetry – and his partner – in his 20s in New York, what he loves about living in the country, and his surprising love of the New York Knicks.
