With libraries struggling for limited resources in many communities around the world, growing politically motivated protests, and some people questioning libraries' relevance, it is more important than ever to ensure a library's services and programs meet the needs of the local community. Small and rural libraries, in particular, struggle to survive if not well supported by their community members. In this episode, Beth and Jane interview Dianne Connery, previous Director and current Development Director of Pottsboro Area Public Library in Texas (US). On the verge of closing its doors, Dianne led a group of dedicated stakeholders who transformed this small, rural library into the vibrant community-gathering place it is today. She shares her experiences and strategies that worked for her to engage her local community and ensure the library met their needs. She also shares her opinions about how this process may look different for rural versus larger or more urban libraries.

Today's conversation with Joanie was fascinating as she is (one of the only!) proud advocates of a hybrid role, providing it's the right type of hybrid and with the right family. Having had a long career working in the music industry, working backstage with A-listers managing all their catering she came into the private sector already well versed in working with UHNW demanding clients. She openly admits it took her along time and a lot of patience to actually break into the industry, but she finally did and hasn't looked back. All of her roles have been a hybrid involving cooking, house management and service – which has always worked very well for her. Coincidentally she has also recently been to The International Butler Academy in the Netherlands (just like some of our previous guests) and absolutely loved her time there and would highly recommend to others.
SPECIAL GUEST: DINESH D'SOUZA In this episode, I'm sounding the alarm on the influx of migrants expected to pour across the Texas-US border in the coming days as Title 42 expires. Plus, the NY Times believes it found the 'smoking gun' text message from Tucker Carlson that supposedly got him fired. The text shouldn't have surprised Tucker. Might the bigger issue for Fox News have been fear of regulation from Democrats? And, the Federal Reserve raised rates to the highest level in 16 years but, it's still not enough to fix inflation. Joining me today is conservative thought leader, Dinesh D'Souza. Dinesh, a filmmaker and media commentator, is the host of the Dinesh D'Souza podcast. In today's discussion, we look at why gender dysphoria has become the topic du jour for both sides of the aisle. According to Dinesh, it may mark a dangerous turning point for Western civilization.

We are all tired as hell right now. After the last few years of….ALL OF IT….we're all depleted. From the pandemic, to the political drama, to the possible new world war with Ukraine…it never seems to end. And mid-February can be the hardest time of year–even in the best of times. So here we are. The no-shit is that these are definitely not the best of times. Many of us are exhausted, beaten-down, and wounded. None of us is unchanged. And the global post-COVID mental health crisis is just getting started. 2022 may be the year we end the pandemic and start the suffering that follows. From suicide to divorce to bankruptcies to alcoholism, it's all happening–and getting worse. We are not OK. But we can be. We can get through it. To better days. To healthier lives. To happier times. But we all need help making that happen. This is a time especially, to look for the helpers. And Ana Marie Cox (@AnaMarieCox) is one of those helpers that is now rising to meet this moment. She's been to the dark edge, and is coming back to help others avoid it. After decades as a media innovator and self-described “troublemaker”, the trailblazing Founding Editor of Wonkette, political columnist, and culture critic you may know from cable TV new and places like MTV, Esquire, the Washington Post and her highly successful Crooked Media podcast, Friends Like These, Ana has launched a new life and a new column. It's focused on sobriety. But also on her Christianity, her experiences, and her unique brand of wisdom. And she joins our host, Paul Rieckhoff (@PaulRieckhoff), for a very real, very candid, very thoughtful, very useful conversation–about the hard challenges of life in these exceptionally challenging times. They talk about drinking, divorce, the dysfunction of our politics and media, and how to get through it all. And weave into the biggest political issues and challenges along the way. It's hard to fight when you're tired. And we're all tired. But this is an invaluable conversation to help you through it. It's a life-hack, a dose of reality, and an injection of advice. It's unlike any other episode of this show before. And it's one you'll want to share. Check out Ana Marie Cox's work as mentioned/discussed in this episode: Sober Questioning. See a full transcript at http://heartsofgoldpodcast.com/blog/ Marie shares her project to expand SWENext Club outreach opportunities and to assist girls in creating SWENext Clubs in their schools and communities More from Marie: I am a 4th generation Girl Scout; I have been a Girl Scout since I was a Daisy. Earning the Bronze, Silver and Gold Award. As a Girl Scout Girl Advisory Board member for 5 years my goal since 6th grade was to be a national delegate. I have enjoyed being a part of the Girl Scout council cookie entrepreneur program selling over 1000 boxes per season including corporate partnerships with Hopdoddy, Amys Ice Cream and People Fund. I love being a part of a large multilevel troop where I can share my passion and experiences with others. I love badges, journeys and travel. As a member of the Texas/US congregation who traveled to Cyprus in 2017, 2019 and 2021 as a true Girl Guide exchange program. I have been able to participate in various roles including the local cookie vendor selection committee, media girls, press corps, GSUSA National Merchandising Committee, Citrus Trail Blazer troop and of course there are all the opportunities that I applied for and didn’t get accepted too. That is ok – I learned to persevere, to ask why and what could I do better. As a homeschooler I have time to pursue my passions and discover new ones – I take classes at the local community college. In addition to Girl Scouts, I am involved with SWENext National Advisory Board, 4-H photography, Girls Who Code, SWENext club, volunteering at local library, with Reinvented Magazine as their Marketing Campaign Director and starting my own business. I am an accidental athlete, focusing on strength building sports after bullying in 8th grade because I didn’t look like everyone else - Archery, Obstacle Course racing (like American Ninja Warrior), track, tennis, golf, rock climbing, strength and conditioning.
