This episode marks 50 produced episodes of Passion to Power! We are so excited- Michelle Zeitlin, Host/Producer. Herizon Music Foundation, founded by Thea Wood in 2019, aims to level the playing field for women in music- on the mic, in the studio, on the mixing board, in publishing, and in every pursuit of the wide open music industry - creators, producers, engineers, distributors, the whole gamut. This is quite a lofty goal, and Thea is committed, motivated, ready and passionate! From participating in TEDx in Texas (say that three times fast!) to running music events in Detroit, Thea Wood has played many roles. She does not consider herself a musician or vocalist, but she dabbles in writing song lyrics. She also has a sharp recollection for musical hits and artists. She loves music and she wants to empower women to expand their "Herizons." Thea shares her trajectory- not a straight line to running a non-profit- in journalism for newspapers and magazines, designing collateral materials for corporate branding and negotiating real estate. She says all these career stints prepared her for this full time endeavor that wraps around her heart. She's part marketing director, part nurturer, part coach, part bulldog, and leans into the challenge of sales- "you have to be able to ASK for money." HOW DOES MUSIC GET UNDER HER SKIN? Did you know music actually trains the brain to work better? Sharper! WHAT are the (disappointing) FACTS about women in music and the inequities in job hiring opportunities, music air play, label opportunities, distribution and support? GENDER vs. GENRE- a big take away! "MUSIC HEALS," says Thea, and answers these questions. She wants to build a foundation where women of all ages can engage with mentors, get resources, and feel they have a safe haven. Thea is also pretty hip! A mother of two, she has shiny eyes and an easy laugh- Michelle and Thea laughed...a lot. Are you ready to be victorious in your life and business? Yet there is that nagging feeling…that doubt…that fear holding you back from that BIG, GOD-SIZED vision and mission that you know you were meant for. There will always be people (sometimes those closest to you) that will cheer you on until you no longer fit in the box they created for you. We can't control how people react to us, we can only control how we respond. No one is responsible for your dreams and vision. Take responsibility. Become a victor rather than a victim. Don't settle for any less than you know you were created for. Make a decision. Push forward. Persevere. Kick. Fear. In. The. Face. In this episode of the Epic Success Podcast, I'm talking with my friend, Thea Wood. She is an entrepreneur, mom, wife, and author of Kick Fear In The Face. She is fantastic and fearless and we can glean so much from her story and testimony. This interview is a part of a series called Take Your Seat at the Table, where I'm interviewing the Queens from our Queens Table Mastermind, all multi- 7 & 8-figure female business owners. They are going to share their journey with you. The good, the bad, the pivots, the tears, and the victories so you can see that YOU deserve a seat at the table. When I was growing my business, I just wanted to be able to have conversations like this one to figure out how I could think differently. So…this is for you! Pull up a chair - you deserve the success you see behind your eyes! The biggest take-aways from today's episode are: Partner with your future self. Invest in yourself. Everything is within you. When you can begin to get clarity of where you're going, you can create habits that set you up for success everyday. It's those micro-habits that set the tone for our future. They are connected to the bigger vision. Stop “shoulding” on yourself. Get a clear picture of what the next 5 to 10 years look like. How you do one thing is how you do most things. We get so accustomed to getting things fast, that we lose sight of the steps that it takes to get to that destination. Get yourself around like-minded people. Take the seat at the table and commit daily. Choose 5 daily tasks that you can start your day with. Resistance will come. Stay connected and you will find breakthrough and freedom. To get connected with Thea, follow her on Instagram. And don't forget to pick up her book, Kick Fear in the Face here. You will not regret it! Others have concerns about whether the current system is truly preparing students for the future. Doug and Thea Wood shared those concerns long before the pandemic hit. But rather than just talk about the problem, they took action to build a solution. The Woods partnered with Angie Taylor to found Valor Global Online, a Christ-centered school with a flexible, entrepreneurial approach to learning. The Valor team is dedicated to cultivating creativity and confidence in the kids who attend and creating a community that prepares them to pursue their dreams. On this episode of The Live Out Loud Show, Thea, Doug and Angie join Brooke to explain why the current education system doesn't prepare kids for the real world and how Valor Global solves that problem by finding and fostering the divine potential in each student. They discuss what the school day looks like for kids at Valor Global, describing how they engage in the online classroom and why the format gives families the flexibility to build their lives around what's most important to them. Listen in for insight on how Valor Global incorporates faith into the curriculum and find out if the school and community Thea, Doug and Angie are building is the right fit for your family! Ali Dineen is a singer-songwriter and musician based in New York City. She’s performed her original music from the American folk tradition at the Savannah Music Festival, the American Folk Art Museum, and the Brooklyn Folk Festival, just to name a few. Ali’s lyrics have been described as poetic and deeply personal. When talking about her new EP, Hold On, she said, “This album grew out of personal heartbreak, and the feeling of a collective heartbreak as we’ve watched the world descend farther into fascism and irreversible climate catastrophe… It took moving through heartbreak and disillusionment and grief, to arrive not at ecstasy or a belief that everything will be okay, but at the realization that life continues somehow and is resilient… no matter how long we’ve got, we need to love, and fight relentlessly for one another.” Ali was recently awarded a Helene Wurlitzer Foundation residency in Taos, New Mexico, where she’s spending the winter working on her next creative endeavor.
