2012's Trouble With The Curve opens on a then-83 year-old Clint Eastwood in dialogue with his penis, attempting to coax pee out by berating it with gruff, raspy words.
The boys of summer are back on the field this week, and Dave takes 2012's Trouble With the Curve off the shelf. Phil found the movie to be a bland mix of common themes. Amy Adams manages to elevate some of them but struggles with a story that doesn't quite reach the heights it could have. Dave found the characters to be one note and the script to be pretty pedestrian. The movie culminates with too many "easy" answers to questions it barely asks.
Take me out to the freaking podcast! It's time for us to talk Clint Eastwood's final (to date) film acting for another director, Robert Lorenz's 2012 father-daughter baseball dramedy TROUBLE WITH THE CURVE. And who better to join us than producer-director, former aspiring pro baseballer, and returning guest Chadd Harbold? We discuss who exactly directed this thing, peak Amy Adams, the demon Justin Timberlake, sabermetrics, and more. Lousy movie, great ep. Check it out! Topics include: screenplay theft, MONEYBALL, faith-based cinema, "You Are My Sunshine," speculation about Clint's acting coda, high school sports phenoms, clogging, the scene with the horse, Super Monkey Ball, and more. STREEPS OF FIRE #3: JULIE & JULIA and KRAMER VS. KRAMERSPECIAL NOTE: This episode was recorded before the untimely and sad death of Julie Powell, who wrote the book, and is the lead character, in Julie & Julia, played in the film by Amy Adams. Condolences. Streep thirty years apart! Travel back to 1979 and the proto-men's movement galvanizer, Kramer vs Kramer! Streep co-stars with Dustin Hoffman (who was once approached by Mike Nichols in the late 70s to play John Rambo so he will alway be Rambo to us) as a divorcing couple unsure with how to split one of their prized possessions, their son. Hoffman was the bigger star at the time but Streep holds her own and pocketed her first Oscar for it. We talk a lot about how Hoffman wasn't the coolest dude to a still-grieving Streep during filming. A box office smash and Oscar sweeper. does it hold up 43 years later?JULIE & JULIA in 2009 reunites Streep with screenwriter Nora Ephorn (who Streep played a fictional version of in Heartburn) and also pairs her with director Nora Ephron (meh). Most importantly, we cover another movie with Amy Adams, last seen in season one and Trouble With The Curve with Clint Eastwood and cursed manchild blight Justin Timberlake. Julie Powell's blog-turned-book is turned into a movie about a plucky young woman starting a blog about making every recipe in Julia Child's legendary Art of French Cooking doorstop. The film also adapts Julia Child's own memoir about her early days learning to cook in France and being a possible spy (sadly a neglected plot point in the movie). Streep in reunited with her Devil Wears Prada co-star Stanley Tucci as an impossibly smitten and encouraging spouse (and, again, probable spy, a plot line not in the movie). Ephorn had the cast eat actual, five-star prepared food in the movie so all of their reactions (and weight gain) are legit. Kind of a cool to ditch the spit buckets on set. Ephron's early work was as a food writer. So it's one movie that meshes two completely different books together. Does it work? Find out. Ken and Jack are joined once again by Streep super stan, Andi. "What do you say now, jackass? That's known as... trouble with the curve." While one might not call this throwaway romcom late in Clint Eastwood's career as the ultimate title drop movie... it still manages to annoy one co-host enough to negate any charms Justin Timberlake brings to the table in his pursuit of Amy Adams. Those charms include: Roleplaying as her brother who makes out with her in a bar fight. Denied a kiss so he gets naked. Feels betrayed, throws a tantrum and then plays baseball trivia. Classic cinema. Enjoy! Support what we do on Patreon with bonus episodes! Stocks are slightly lower, putting their 4-day winning streak in jeopardy today. And while bond yields are reversing higher, there's technically no inversion of the 2-YR / 10YR spread just yet. We'll have all the latest details. Plus, there's still plenty of optimism for crypto, with bitcoin's price up 10% this week. But is one big whale behind the huge jump? We'll explore. And, Apple is riding an 11-session winning streak, its longest since 2003. Could investors finally see it close about the $3 trillion mark? We'll debate.

Trouble With The Curve star Matthew Lillard makes his directing debut withFat Kid Rules The World. Lillard joins host Robin Milling to talk about the natural progression he's made behind the camera. He tells Robin how jitters didn't even come into the picture as directing and being a family man with three kids have satisfied his life. Lillard says teaching acting prepared him to get a great performance from his actors, but admits he's a little disappointed the coeds didn't crush out on him! Lillard was a fat kid who grew into his lanky body naturally, but says the real story behind the film is about kids who are on the outside looking in. An outsider himself, Lillard was drawn to the stage in high school, but it was a flubbed line that gave him the motivation to succeed. For more information visit www.tuggthefatkid.com
