Josh Graham is a second-generation career firefighter with over a decade of experience in a large, fast-growing urban fire department in the Greater Toronto Area. In addition to his firefighting career, he has more than ten years of paramedic experience, having worked in both urban and rural settings. Josh spent two years in the Training Division as the Technical Rescue lead, where he developed programs across multiple disciplines to support his department's transition toward mandated certification. His programs focus on NFPA standards while ensuring crews are equipped with the necessary skills, training, and experience to operate effectively. He has also played a key role as a Lead Instructor in several Recruit Academies. In late 2023, Josh returned to the Operations Division and is currently assigned to a station housing both an Engine and a Technical Rescue apparatus. He continues to contribute to the Training Division as an Acting Training Officer and serves as a Lead Instructor for Rope and Water Rescue, Engine Operations, Search and Rescue, and Firefighter Survival. A firm believer in the historic culture of the fire service, Josh values camaraderie, craftsmanship, and the traditions that define the profession. While modern shifts emphasize safety culture and individualism, he believes that the strength of the fire service lies in its shared commitment to training, continual skill development, and the mentorship of future generations. His passion for the job is fueled by the enthusiastic passing of knowledge, experience, and tradition. Outside of work, Josh enjoys spending time with his wife and two children, as well as hunting, fishing, camping, mountain biking, and practicing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Josh curates a firefighting-focused Instagram page dedicated to sharing relevant training content and fire service culture. His goal is to showcase the confidence and effectiveness of aggressive firefighting, often misunderstood as reckless or dangerous—while highlighting its critical value in saving lives and property. @dumpdawg_jr Sponsorship: @southwest_fire_academy Editing: @bradshea Marketing: @m.pletz Administration: @haileyfirefit Partnership: @firefighternationhq

Vince Broglio of Santa Cruz, CA is the definition of 'waterman'. Strong across a wide variety of disciplines in the ocean for over 40+ years, the cliff notes of his waterman resume go like this: 40 plus years surfing Santa Cruz, surfing Mavericks before pictures were ever published of that wave in a magazine, running jet skis as water patrol on the biggest swell days out there, hand shaping and glassing 1,000's of surf boards and other water craft, kite surfing, tow surfing, wing foiling, And on top of it all, he's an incredible artist creating unreal sculptures out of surfboard resin. Keys For Kids Ministries

Bible Reading: 2 Timothy 1:6-11Jase raced into the garage where his older brother was working on his car. "Cole! Come quick! Hunter fell into Mrs. Scott's pool and she can't get him out!" Cole grabbed a broom from the corner and shot out of the garage to help the small neighbor boy. Jase ran after him and watched his brother jump into the pool and swim to where Hunter was thrashing around. Cole got Hunter onto the broom and pulled him to the side of the pool, where Jase and Mrs. Scott lifted him out. That evening, Jase couldn't stop talking about Cole's daring rescue. "I should teach you some life-saving techniques before I go back to college," said Cole. "Too many people think they can just jump in the water and swim to someone who's drowning, but that's the worst thing you can do. The person will just pull you under. First you should see if there's a way to pull them out without getting in the water yourself. If you must jump in, make sure you have something for them to grab on to." "Like a broom!" said Jase. "I wonder if any of the neighbors laughed when they saw you sprinting down the street holding a broom." "They can laugh all they want," said Cole. "I grabbed the first thing I saw that would help me save Hunter." "You know," said Jase, "this reminds me of Pastor Lee's sermon last week. He talked about how people made fun of Jesus when He died on the cross, but Jesus knew dying for our sins was the only way we could be saved. It's like we were drowning in sin, and Jesus jumped in to rescue us." Jase sighed. "Sometimes I'm afraid my friends will laugh at me if I talk to them about Jesus. But you didn't care what anyone would think when you grabbed that broom to rescue Hunter, and Jesus came to save us even though it meant He would be laughed at as He suffered and died." Cole smiled. "I struggle with the same thing sometimes--I'm afraid my college friends will laugh if I talk to them about my faith. Maybe I should put that broom in my dorm room to remind me how much we all need to be rescued by Jesus." -Vicki L. ReinhardtHow About You?Are you afraid people might laugh at you if they find out you're a Christian? Do you think your friends might tease you if you try to talk to them about Jesus? That could happen, but remember what Jesus went through to save us--He was publicly ridiculed and then nailed to a cross for our sins. We all need Him to rescue us, and those who don't know Him need to hear about Him. Trust Him to give you courage to share your faith with others. Throughout her life, super swimmer Lynne Cox has been making waves; she has swum the Nile, around the Cape of Good Hope, and more than a mile in Antarctic waters. She was also the first person to swim the Bering Strait. This accomplishment earned her praise from both U.S. President Reagan and Soviet leader Gorbachev. Lynne has swum nearly 55,000 miles (that's two trips around the world!) in dangerous, open water. So, when she saw a video of a rescue dog fearlessly leaping from a helicopter, she was mesmerized. On today's show, Lynne shares how she recognized a kindred spirit in that daredevil dog, and how she joined the Italian School of Water Rescue Dogs. What does it take for a chocolate Newfoundland named Al to become an expert water rescue dog? A lot of heart, a couple of dog treats, and one furry hero. A record rainfall more than tripled what was forecasted in Waverly, Tennessee, in August 2021. In the wake of the powerful storm, twenty people lost their lives and hundreds of homes were destroyed. Had it not been for the compassion and skill of helicopter pilot Joel Boyers, the loss of human life would’ve been even greater. The pilot took flight in response to a phone call from a woman who was concerned about her loved ones. In addition to seeing houses on fire and cars in trees, Boyers noted, “It was nothing but [muddy], raging water below me.” The pilot, however, bravely proceeded to rescue twelve people from the roofs of their homes. As harrowing as the raging waters can be in life, more often than not the swirling floods we face aren’t literal—but oh, how real! In days of uncertainty and instability, we can feel overwhelmed, unsafe—“in over our heads” mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. But we don’t need to despair. In Psalm 18, we read how David’s enemies were many and mighty, but his God was greater. How great? So great and powerful (v. 1) that he used multiple metaphors (v. 2) to describe Him. God was mighty enough to rescue from deep waters and strong enemies (vv. 16–17). How great? Great enough for us to call upon Him in the name of Jesus, regardless of the volume and depth of the waters surrounding us in life (v. 3).

WHAT WE DO We create video, audio and written word content to share these training and tactics methods with our Brothers and Sisters in our extended fire families, and to showcase to those that may be interested in becoming firefighters the fun you can have and the amazing skills and abilities you get to learn, whilst keeping the lives of the people around you safe! WHY WE SHARE Firefighters are problem solvers whose role requires them to be on their best day whilst others are having their worst day, and while we do not claim to be perfect we are willing to put our lives on the line to try. While Lynne Cox is known to the world as an elite world-class swimmer who's set open-water swimming records all over the world, she is also someone whose life has been shaped by the love of dogs and the lessons she has learned from dogs. When Lynne found out there was a school in Italy that trains water rescue dogs to jump out of boats and helicopters to save people from drowning, her first thought was: I have to go there right now! So Lynne traveled to Italy and was able to learn first-hand about the training process of these elite canine athletes. Which brings us to the story of Al, an exuberant Newfoundland with a lust for life who isn't quite meeting the expectations of the Vice-President of the Italian School for Water Rescue Dogs – or is she?  Lynne's new book, Tales of Al – The Water Rescue Dog – The Making of a Canine Athlete, is a story of dreams, expectations, disappointments and courage. And if you've ever felt misunderstood, you might find a piece of yourself in Al's story.   Find Links, Show Notes & Photos at: https://believeindogpodcast.com/episodes-1/episode47   Episode Sponsored By: Hugs & Belly Rubs Dog Health Journal: https://www.hugsandbellyrubs.com/doghealthjournal

Lynne's new book, Tales of Al, The Water Rescue Dog, is a heartwarming story about a dog expected to be an "easy train" by the elite Italian Water Rescue Dog Team. Lynne is an American long-distance open-water swimmer, who is best known for being the first person to swim between the US and the Soviet Union in the Bering Strait, a feat which has been recognized for easing the Cold War tensions between Ronald Reagan  and Soviet Leader, Mikhail Gorbachev. Our guest this week is George and his water rescue Newfoundland, Oakley! Oakley was trained to be a water rescue dog at the American Academy or Canine Water Rescue in Boston, MA and started training when she was only 11 weeks old. We did a photoshoot with Oakley last summer and, to this day, is the highest engagement we've ever had on a single Dogist post with a reach of 1.8 million. Elias got to tag along with George and Oakley last week while they did a doors off helicopter trial, so we figured it was the perfect time to have them on the podcast so we can hear all about it.
