We set up the recording all by ourselves and are feeling technically smug. We reminisce about the times when the TV used to end for the day and they played the National Anthem! - we are OLD! Do you remember that? Penny talks about Grapenuts - we think she might have made this up. Who's had a Grapenut? We talk about the loveliest day where we planted a tree - it really was magical, knowing that tree will flourish for decades and has started out as this lil fella! What a treat. We suffer all the usual interruptions from Mandy's family pinging their messages... and phoning oops! We announce our plans to video the podcast so you can see us too - not sure it's a good thing, but watch this space. Dishwashers - are they a necessity? How often do you use yours? Penny is horrified that Mandy puts dog bowls in the dishwasher - is it wrong? We take a dum dum look at AI - trying to figure it out, help! How long will we be in a job? Should we be afraid or should we embrace it? And can we trust it? There's a new mixer in the house - Sara's present for her to start her micro bakery! How exciting. So, if you fancy it, pull up a chair and join us for a delightfully irreverent chit chat about life and all its random tangents - bring a cuppa. Cake optional...

Hour 1 One more day of Stugotz filling in for Boomer. Yesterday after the show, Gio and Stugotz played golf together and Gio said it was the worst golf experience. The Mets won again, beating the Braves in 10 after the Braves couldn't pull off a suicide squeeze and then overran a fly ball hit by Jeff McNeil in the bottom of the 10th. We talked more about the worst day of golf yesterday. C-Lo is in for Jerry, but first we talked about the new Post Malone/Luke Combs country song. Al also thinks all of Jordan Davis' songs are about getting engaged. C-Lo has the sounds of the Mets beating the Braves and it doesn't seem like the manager called for that failed suicide squeeze. Dylan Cease no-hit the Nationals for the second no-hitter in Padres history. Dan Le Batard said Stugotz is bigger than anyone on FAN not named Boomer Esiason. In the final segment of the hour, Stugotz isn't sure why Brandon Tierney hates him so much.  Hour 2 Yesterday Gio had a take that this year's Mets team is comparable to the NY Giants in the first year of Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll. In the final segment of the hour, we talked about the book Stugotz is writing that is supposed to come out at the end of the year.  Hour 3 The Mets beat the Braves thanks to a botched suicide squeeze and a dropped fly ball in the bottom of the tenth. The crowd at the Mets game was tremendous last night. We also talked more about Gio's terrible golf experience with Stugotz yesterday. C-Lo returns for an update, but first one more golf story from yesterday. The Mets beat the Braves and C-Lo has all the sound of the failed suicide squeeze by Atlanta. Joe Schoen talked about Brian Daboll losing a lot of weight with pilates. Breece Hall talked about going for 1,000 yards this season after coming up 6 yards short. In the final segment of the hour, a caller wonders how Stugotz got his name.  Hour 4 Chris McMonigle joins us as he's been sleeping at the station since 5am. He is also hosting this afternoon. Hour 1 Boomer is out today and Stugotz is filling in, so it's Gio & Stugotz. We started with the Mets beating the Yankees again as the Yankees continue to struggle at the plate. Gio doesn't believe in this Yankees lineup at all. The Yankees were supposed to be going for it this year which is why they went out and got Juan Soto and Alex Verdugo. Gio wonders what's the point in signing Soto if they don't go to the ALCS. C-Lo is in for Jerry and here for his first update of the day and has all the sounds from the Mets beating the Yankees. In the final segment of the hour, we talked more about the Mets beating the Yankees last night in the Bronx Hour 2 Joe Schoen has become a star on Hard Knocks. Gio said last night was the most boring of all the episodes so far. Last night was about the deal the Giants wanted to make with the Patriots to grab Drake Maye. John Mara compared this draft to the Eli Manning draft. Stugotz wondered how Daniel Jones felt watching these episodes. We also talked about Tommy DeVito making Shaun Morash a human chicken cutlet. Gio wonders how Dave Gettleman wound up drafting Kadarius Toney. C-Lo returns for an update and starts with the sounds of the Mets beating the Yankees. Paul Skenes lost the first game of his career with the Pirates. Brian Daboll talked to Nick Saban 2 hours before the draft. Gio thought he should have called him much earlier than that. In the final segment of the hour, Al has some sort of illness and Stugotz has been pooping during commercial breaks. Gio can't believe people get sick in July. Yesterday Gio hit a moving car with a golf ball.  Hour 3 Stugotz got hit in the head with a golf ball right in the forehead. He said he was gushing blood but played the next hole. We took calls about Gio hitting a car while on the golf course. There was a debate whether Gio was liable or not and a few lawyers called in. An old school caller, John in Glen Cove, called in to talk to Gio for the first time in many years. He thinks the Yankees are under too much pressure and need to let their players grow their hair long. C-Lo returned for an update and started with all the sounds of the Mets beating the Yankees in the Bronx. The middle of the Yankees lineup has been a disaster. Bryson DeChambeau had Donald Trump on his YouTube golf show. In the final segment of the hour, Gio's daughter spilled water and he wanted her to get the towel herself. She was whining until Gio yelled at her to get the towel. He gave her 3 or 4 chances before he started yelling. He does not want to raise a spoiled child. Demon voice Gio was needed.  Hour 4 We talked about Craig Carton calling a Yankees game in a few weeks. Stugotz did a Marlins game once and we have some clips. From your host Barbara Hello, Keelian friends and family! It's been a little while since we talked with a Witch, isn't it? So, I called up Cheryl Costa, who has been a Witch for quite a while. In addition, she's a teacher, an author, a filmmaker, UFO researcher and a Buddhist. We settled in the night we recorded, and had so much fun getting to know each other that we nearly forgot to turn on the recording equipment! (I am such a professional podcaster, y'all!) We talked about Witchcraft, Magick, Buddhism, UFOs, History and Mystery. There's a lot in here, and a lot that is good for everyone to hear—especially when it comes to how to practice magick effecively. And -why- to practice magic.k in the first place.I don't want to give too much away. Just listen, and hopefully enjoy. Cheryl's coming back sometime soon to talk about UFO's UFO statistics and most importantly, UFOs and the Woo…….As always, here is the list of books we discussed as well as a listing of Cheryl's books. The Spiral Dance by StarhawkWomen Who Fly by Serinity YoungMagickal Musings of a Rogue Witch by Cheryl CostaThe UFO Beat by Cheryl CostaUFO Sightings Desk Reference: United States of America 2001-2020 by Cheryl CostaUFOs in Ohio and Where to Find Them by Cheryl Costa—there are also 49 more titles in this series, one for each state. A note about the books: The Desk Reference is full of analysis of sightings from both the MUFON and NUFORC databases—and it is amazing. It's all facts and figures and tables and charts, so it's not a reading book—it is literally for researchers who want some crunched data. Here it is, crunchy as a bowl of Grape Nuts…..but more useful. The UFO Beat is the opposite of the Desk Reference. Here, Cheryl gives stories that came from the data, in all their narrative glory. This is a fun book to read—but do understand, most of the stories in it come from New York, because she was writing for a small New York State weekly paper. I've only had a chance to glance at the Magickal Musings of a Rogue Witch, but what I saw looked plenty good. I'll write a review and post it on Amazon after I've read it.This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/4541473/advertisement

This week Jeff and Dave wrap up their two-part series on the Homeric Hymn to Demeter. Here we learn about Demophoon, infant child of Queen Metaneira of Eleusis. It seems he has a problem with mortality, and Demeter has the cure: nightly fire purgations. As the kids say, "srsly?" But things don't go so well when the blazing goddess of grain is caught in the act of burning off Demophoon's (not huggable but mortal) portions, and rather than wreak havoc on the innocent inhabitants of Eleusis, she decides to set up a cult and allow them to worship her. Meanwhile, what about Persphone? Hey girl, beware the pomegranate! Tune in for an update on Dave's Greece trip, the usual, blithe and bland banter, and maybe a pun or two about Grape Nuts. As the kids say, "Whaaa?"

Dr. Yossi Sheffi and Joe Lynch discuss AI and the future of supply chain, which is the central theme of Yossi's latest book, The Magic Conveyor Belt: Supply Chains, A.I., and the Future of Work. Yossi is the Elisha Gray II professor of Engineering Systems at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he serves as Director of the MIT Center for Transportation & Logistics (CTL). About Dr. Yossi Sheffi Dr. Yossi Sheffi is the Elisha Gray II professor of Engineering Systems at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he serves as Director of the MIT Center for Transportation and Logistics (CTL). He is an expert in systems optimization, risk and resilience, and supply chain management, topics he researches and teaches at MIT and other leading business and engineering schools. Professor Sheffi is the author of a 1985 textbook on transportation networks and eight management books, dealing with supply chain resilience, sustainability, industrial clustering, and other business management issues. His latest books include The New (Ab)Normal: Reshaping Business and Supply Chain Strategy Beyond Covid-19 (2020) and A Shot in the Arm: How Science, Engineering, and Supply Chains Converged to Vaccinate the World (2021). His latest book, The Magic Conveyor Belt: Supply Chains, A.I., and The Future of Work, was released in April 2023. Under his leadership, MIT CTL has launched many educational, research, and industry/government outreach programs, including the MIT Master of Engineering in Logistics program in 1998, the MIT Master of Applied Sciences in Supply Chain Management, and the MIT on-line offering, MITx MicroMasters program in supply chain management. Launched in 2016, the program had its one millionth registrant at the end of 2022. Outside academia, Professor Sheffi has consulted with numerous government agencies as well as leading manufacturing, retail, and transportation enterprises all over the world. He is also an active entrepreneur, having founded five successful companies, all acquired by larger enterprises, and a sought-after speaker at corporate and professional events. About The Magic Conveyor Belt (Yossi's new book) The societal and economic spasms of the early 2020s highlighted the crucial role of world-spanning supply chains in the modern global economy, as well as the growing role of digital technology, including A.I. and automation, in the future economy. In The Magic Conveyor Belt, MIT Professor Yossi Sheffi explains what supply chains are, how they operate, and how the integration of advanced technology with people and processes will be the hallmark of future supply chain management. Professor Sheffi lays the foundation for understanding supply chains and the characteristics that make them complex. In Part 1 of the book, “The Global Dance,” he delves into the often-hidden intrinsic structure of supply chains to ground the reader in the challenges of managing the mammoth networks involved. Part 2, “Further Complexity and Challenges,” shows how the last 50 years have added even more complexity to supply chains. This part covers the rising demand for goods, as well as the increasing consumer expectations for fast, perfect delivery services. The capabilities and future roles of automation, robotics, and artificial intelligence are changing and augmenting the jobs held by workers—covered in Parts 3 and 4. Elements of the book trace the implications of multiple trends in the operating environment for tomorrow's global supply chains, as they change and augment the jobs held by workers. While many of the new skills require technical knowhow, it is social skills, ironically, that may be a key for future human employment in an economy dominated by technology. About MIT Center for Transportation & Logistics (CTL) The MIT Center for Transportation & Logistics has been a global leader in supply chain management innovation, education, and research for fifty years. It has educated practitioners worldwide and has helped numerous companies gain a competitive advantage from its cutting-edge research.
