Someone early in my career explained that nonprofits are notorious for operating at least two years behind the rest of the working world when it comes to innovation. This individual insisted that rather than being the early adopters, we’re more inclined to the be the laggards due to our aversion to risk. Contrary to what this person had observed, I have always believed nonprofits should be the innovators rather than the last to adapt to someone else’s bold, new idea; slow to change means missing the chance to change the world. I think we are getting better at this, and perhaps people like Pat are helping us along in our adoption of new ideas. We seem to be leaning into the messy reality that multiple generations are using a multiplicity of channels to give. What Pat wants us to add to that complex mix is the understanding that we’re on the verge of adding a multiplicity of currencies and that, while we generally assume our asset-based donor to have at least paid off their mortgage, now they may have just graduated from college. As some of us hoard millennials and younger generations into our CRM’s, Pat wants us to ask ourselves is what happens when these donors opt to be a crypto-based. As always, we are grateful to our friends at CueBack for sponsoring The Fundraising Talent Podcast. #responsivefundraising #unpredictable

Our guest today is Pat Coyne, coach and owner of Black Sheep Performance in Cincinnati, Ohio. Pat started helping clients of all levels reach their fullest potential after his career as a 4-star high school football recruit ended in college due to injury. Pat started Black Sheep Performance in 2018 on the side of a house in Cincinnati, OH. Within 3 years BSP organically outgrew itself, working from renting gym space, to a barn, to a state of the art 11,000 sq. foot training facility. Pat has mentored under some of the top coaches in the nation, is a progressive thinker, and gets great results with his clients in his fast-growing business. When I moved back to Ohio in July, I connected with Pat shortly thereafter and have gotten several training sessions and conversations in with him since then. Pat has a training style that fuses many of the elements I consider essential: A great environment, room for exploration/creativity, competition and reaction, as well as an integration of modern speed training methods, such as those taught by multi-time podcast guest, Adarian Barr. As such, it was only a matter of time until Pat and I sat down together and recorded a podcast. Two of the big things that Pat and I are both passionate about are being life-long learners and then looking at (and experiencing) the holistic effects of things like the training environment, athlete autonomy/creativity, and the effects of music, rhythm and reactions on performance. On this podcast, Pat and I go into his background as an athlete and coach, his thoughts on structured vs. unstructured/open training, his progressions on speed training, rhythm, timing, how he challenges athletes on a holistic level, and some deeper discussion on the evolution of the human/sports performance industry. But.. how uncomfortable did you make your athletes in a healthy way, in a safe environment, to where they could fail, to where you could see how resilient that athlete is becoming” “I want to see the full human being first, then we can smack the weights” “I feel like you make the most progress when you are having fun… why does a kid make progress so fast. Why do we throw that out when we are working with a pro athlete?” “They may have got their asses kicked,

On this episode of ICWTTY, I had the pleasure of interviewing my good friend Pat McAuley. Pat is the plant based host of the "Eat Green Make Green" podcast, an author, and as of most recently is opening the first vegan beer hall and restaurant in the country! Topics we discuss in this episode: -How Pat found veganism and why he made the switch from a diet high in animal protein -How veganism is the "gateway" to doing more that help you be a better version of yourself -How to navigate being an entrepreneur and use fear as an asset -What Pat's daily meditation and visualization routine looks like ...and so much more! *Also, for those in Massachusetts: On September 8 and 9 there will be the first ever ReWild plant food and beer festival in Hull, MA on Paragon Boardwalk. I will be leading meditations both days to start the festival, and then from 2-10 there will be ReWild plant food, beer and kombucha, and live bands, as well as work/podcast stations! Pat Quinn didn’t get his start as a professional speaker. Instead, he worked as a professional magician for 10 years before deciding to get a “real” job. He became a public school teacher and taught high school for 12 years, during which time he got a degree in brain research, focusing on how adults learn. This combination of experiences means he brings both stagecraft and a deep understanding of audiences to his presentations. Tune in to hear his wisdom and learn how to apply it to your own talks and presentations! Find Out More About Pat Here: Pat QuinnPat Quinn on LinkedInAdvance Your Reachpat@advanceyourreach.com In This Episode: [01:11] - Pat starts things off by talking about how to be a better speaker, and some of the biggest screw-ups he’s seen. [03:59] - We hear about how you can know when you’re on the right track. [06:13] - It’s a lot harder to sell someone a solution if you first have to convince them that there’s a problem, Pat points out. [11:03] - Stephan explores a connection between what Pat has been saying and something he learned from Neil Strauss. [12:55] - Pat digs into the importance of storytelling when you’re speaking, and gives specific examples of how this can work. [18:09] - We hear about two types of speakers who nobody wants to listen to or engage with. [20:18] - How do you give concrete steps that will help the audience make an improvement without giving away the farm? [26:47] - Stephan shares something that he learned early in his career. Pat then points out the importance of getting your audience to remember what you talked to them about. [32:09] - Most of the changes that Pat makes with the speakers he works with is shortening, not lengthening, their presentations. He then recommends having a mixture of short-term and long-term solutions. [36:43] - The key to getting people to engage with you even though you gave them your best stuff is to include long-term solutions that people need to engage in. [39:36] - Pat digs deeper into the role of storytelling in presentations, and explores one of the stories that a lot of people make. [43:45] - What Pat has been saying reminds Stephan of Matt Church’s “pink sheets.” [45:46] - What does Pat tell people who take the approach of awkwardly splitting a presentation into a teaching section and selling section? [52:23] - The process Pat has been describing is called “seeding” or “embedding,” he explains. [58:33] - Pat talks about whether he has a go-to strategy for the next step, such as inviting people to a call. He then shares a specific example of a story that everyone can relate to and teaches the point he wants to make. [67:38] - How can people reach out with Pat to work with him or learn more? The first season of The CW's new hit DC series Black Lightning is about to come to a conclusion with two remaining episodes. To get ready for that, Black Lightning Podcast joined fellow reporters at WonderCon this year to chat with the writers of the series as they break down the process of writing the Pierce family and more. One of the great writers we spoke with was Pat Charles as he discussed what is coming in the remaining episodes of Season 1 and more. Some of the highlights that he spoke about include: -Which character's voice Pat has in his head when writing the characters on the show and who speaks to him the most. -How they have setup Lala's arc and where that character is going in coming episodes. -What Pat's experience has been like in this writers room compared to others that he has been part of. -What sort of influence Arvin Pierce's (Jefferson's father) work will continue to have in Black Lightning's life. -Will certain DC Comics characters appear on the show in the near future. BLACK LIGHTNING “The Resurrection and the Light: The Book of Pain” — (9:00-10:00 p.m. ET) (Content Rating TBD) (HDTV) RETURN OF THE WHALE – Tobias (Marvin Jones III) returns to Freeland. He is tasked to capture – not kill – Black Lightning (Cress Williams) with the help of an unexpected source. After a battle of epic proportions, Anissa (Nafessa Williams) and Jennifer (China Anne McClain) provide surprising aid. Christine Adams, Damon Gupton and James Remar also star. Lead with Love: Creativity, Business & Life with Jadah Sellner
In this episode I talk with Pat Flynn, and he shares what introverts can do to best serve their audiences (I’m over here raising my hand because I am closer to the introvert side of the spectrum)! He also reveals his first experience with a hater and why he almost quit his business because of it. Pat also shares some recommendations for how people can stand out online in a crowded marketplace and so much more! Pat is a father, husband, entrepreneur and host of The Smart Passive Income podcast, which I had the honor to be on just a few short years ago when I shared how to build a community online by hosting challenges to nurture your community (I packed all that up into my course, Build Your Challenge). He also has a podcast called Asked Pat, and between his two popular shows he’s had a combined total of over 50 million downloads! Even though he has amazing numbers when it comes to his downloads and the revenue he’s been able to create, he is all about serving first and allowing the money to follow – which is what leading with love is all about. WHAT YOU'LL HEAR (AND DON'T WANT TO MISS) IN THIS EPISODE How I was introduced to Pat’s work and the ways that it provided me inspiration for my own online business [4:15] How Pat is able to lead with love – even while being a self-described “numbers nerd” [7:43] What introverts can do to best serve their audiences [12:00] The decision by Pat to allow his 8 year-old son to start his own YouTube channel, and the family conversation around it [15:14] Pat’s first experience with a “hater” and why he almost quit his business because of it [17:22] His recommendations for how people can stand out online in a crowded marketplace [23:56] Some of the mistakes he’s made along the way – including the $15,000 lesson and what you can take from it [27:05] What Pat thought passive income was when he first started his business versus how he views it now [33:28] The ways he stays creatively inspired and why he still feels that podcasting is the #1 platform for crafting a message [38:45] Pat’s powerful mission and vision for entrepreneurship [45:15] FIND full show notes at: http://jadahsellner.com/serve-first-money-will-follow-pat-flynn-108

Joining us on the podcast today is Pat Langley founder of Vaikobi. Pat left a successful career building a large Sailing technical apparel brand to strike out on his own and address what he saw as a big gap in the paddle sports market. Designing technical apparel for the paddle sports athlete. Pat recognized that most of the major brands were focused on either white water or touring gear and no one was serious about developing clothing that was optimized for paddle athletes pushing their heart rates to the max on the water. When I first laid eyes on the Vaikobi gear in late summer of 2013 I knew immediately that this was a brand TC SURFSKI would get behind. Without having a chance to try the gear, the style alone was in a league of its own. But of course, upon using the gear I quickly realized the function was even better. Pat and his team have done an amazing job evolving the line-up and as we go into our 5th season representing Vaikobi I’m more excited than ever. While it is great to talk about the gear, it is even better to hear the full story behind how it came to be. In this podcast we cover: Pat’s beginnings growing up in Sydney Australia as a competitive sailor with salt water in the veins A short stint sailing in Japan after University and then starting his first real job in the Classic Sports Wear space Moving from Sports wear into working for a large technical sailing apparel brand First thoughts on starting a paddle sports apparel brand Ripping off the corporate band-aid and plunging feet first into a small start-up business Coming up with the name Vaikobi - (teaser - in the Polynesian Language Via = Water and Kobi = God, but Pat and team only put this together after the name was decided) What Pat and the team sought to accomplish with the launch of their first lines of apparel Why Pat and team take a conservative approach to new product development and focus first and foremost on function over style Launching the first PFD to address a need in Australia for high visibility on the water The process of getting a PFD certified by the different international agencies and why they are not US Coast Guard Approved Packing up, renting the house for a year, and taking the family on a year long trip around the world to visit dealers and customers and experience the different surfski markets first hand Insights and experiences meeting all the various surfski characters around the world and seeing first hand how the markets and paddle cultures are different but also the same Improvements coming in the new vCold range just released Some uses for the vCold range you may not have thought of (hint: it might have to do with Nordic Ski Racing) The all new PINK PFD launching in June Pat’s secret to success: listen, adapt and evolve

Scott is passionate about taking health seriously, his enthusiasm will get you pumped to make some intentional changes in your life and business! What do you do when you get stuck in business and life? There are a variety of factors that can cause you to get stuck in life. It might be relationship issues, struggles achieving goals, or just the monkey wrenches that life throws in the way. How do you overcome these obstacles? This is a tool that will help you identify the three P’s of your audience. Pat suggests creating a spreadsheet and tackling each of the following: Places - Where does your target audience hang out? Podcasts, blogs, web properties. Where does this group go? People - Who are the influencers on this target audience? Who has earned their trust? Podcast hosts, authors of the blog's, top social media accounts. Products - List between 20 and 50 products to see and get a feel for what this audience is looking for. Once you have put in the time researching and identifying these three P’s it will reveal your position in the marketplace. This is your sweet spot, where you can deliver the best service to this target audience. Make sure to listen to this episode of The Amazing Seller to hear Pat expand on these ideas and much more! Getting inside a customer’s head with a PLAN After you have identified a position in a particular market niche, expert Pat Flynn suggests climbing inside your customer's head. What Pat means by this is figuring out how the customer thinks, what motivates them? To identify this perspective, Pat has developed a PLAN. Problem - You have to identify what potential problem you are trying to solve with your product for your customer. This happens through target market and research. Every successful business solves a problem. Language - What words is the customer using to describe their problem? It does not good to come up with the perfect solution to a problem without using the right language that speaks to the customer. Anecdotes - Engage with your customers. Know their stories and empathize with them. Need - If you can identify a real need from your conversations with your customers, you’ll be one step closer to designing your product to fulfill that need. Getting laid off is enough to make anyone want to crawl into a hole and hide. But Pat Flynn went the other direction. He took the opportunity to open himself up, and put his experience in the spotlight. And that very openness became the key to his success, as his Smart Passive Income Community has now reached millions of entrepreneurs. Being recently promoted at a large architecture firm, he was shocked when his boss announced that the company could no longer pay for his services and expertise. Although he was clouded with the fear of unemployment during the first few weeks, this obstacle was the golden opportunity that would change his life forever. On this episode of the Online Marketing Made Easy Podcast, my guest is one of my very favorite people - Pat Flynn. I know most of you already know Pat, but if you don't, he is a well-known and highly successful online entrepreneur.
