Der Musiker Iggi Kelly ist gerade sehr erfolgreich. Seine Musik läuft im Radio, und das hat er geschafft, ohne ständig auf die Kelly Family hinweisen zu müssen, weil da seine Mutter, Patricia, mit dabei war und ist. Der Name “Kelly” allein ist noch keine Erfolgsgarantie, verrät er im aktuellen Podcast “Axel Trifft”: “Meine Mama macht auch Pop und trotzdem läuft sie nicht im Radio. Das heisst dann, ich sag jetzt mal, dass ich im Radio laufe, hat auch irgendwie nichts mit den Kellys an sich zu tun. Aber natürlich denken das viele. Nein, ich glaube mir ist das nicht so wichtig, aber ich glaub, viele haben das Gefühl, dass ich halt irgendwie hier und da oder jetzt mit meinem neuen Song Erfolg hab wegen der Familie. Und das ist ja halt nicht korrekt. Und das ist das einzige, aber sonst ist das mit dem Namen auf jeden Fall Fluch und Segen zugleich. Klar, Michael Patrick, der hat ja auch Jahre gekämpft, um ins Radio zu kommen. Weil das Problem ist natürlich, dass man erst mal zeigen muss, dass man wer anders ist, dass man jetzt nicht irgendwie versucht, die Kellys nachzumachen. Ich bin in einer ganz anderen Zeit groß geworden. Das ist überhaupt nicht meine Intention, nicht mal mein eigenes Ding und deswegen muss man das aber erst mal rüberbringen und das ist voll verständlich, dass irgendwie ein bisschen dauern kann.” Ausserdem spricht Iggi Kelly im aktuellen Podcast über die Musiker, die ihn geprägt haben und wie seine eigene Musik entsteht.

Marian finds herself striking a deal with Jewel – she won't report her to the authorities if Jewel helps her get the locals to fill out their census forms. Du hast elf Geschwister und mit einigen hast Du eine stärkere Verbindung als mit anderen. Das ist komplett normal. Es ist schon so, dass wir uns eher privat unterhalten. Wir teilen uns auch beruflich aus, aber wenn wir uns sehen, dann unterhalten wir uns eher darüber: wir gehts dir gesundheitlich, wie gehts deiner Frau und den Kindern oder deinem Mann und den Kindern….. Was machst du gerade…das ist immer eher im privaten Bereich. Das interessiert einen mehr.” Patricia verrät auch die Musiker, die sie als Heranwachsende beeindruckt und geprägt haben und auch ihre momentane Lieblingssängerin. Und sie erzählt auch ihren größten Traum, den sie unbedingt verwirklichen will.

Mit der Kelly Family feierte sie in den 90ern Riesenerfolge und vor drei Jahren ein ebenso großes Comeback - Patricia Kelly, auch solo ist sie sehr erfolgreich. Ihr aktuelles Album “Unbreakable” ist bis auf Platz 2 der deutschen Albumcharts gestiegen, ihre Musik ist auch in Asien auf eine Menge Aufmerksamkeit gestossen. Mit ihrem Album geht Patricia Kelly auf Tour: los gehts in Leipzig im Haus Auensee am 23. September, einen Tag später singt sie in Dresden im Alten Schlachthof, nächstes Jahr im März dann Konzerte in Cottbus und Chemnitz. Dazu kommen noch Aktivitäten mit der Kelly Family, wo sie mit ihren Geschwistern im November auf Tour ist: am 23. November in Leipzig, am 25. November in Chemnitz und am 30. November in Riesa. Für soviel Arbeit in kurzer Zeit braucht es einen organisierten Menschen, und genau da fühlt sich Patricia sehr gut aufgestellt: “ Als Kind habe ich mein Bett immer gemacht und ich war immer ordentlich und so weiter. Ich war als Kind schon sehr organisiert, aber durch mein Künstlerleben habe ich auch gelernt, auch mal ein bisschen chaotisch zu sein. Und von daher, glaube ich, kommt mir das zugute, dass ich von Natur aus immer sehr organisiert bin. Das ist ja auch kein Zufall, dass ich in den 90er Jahren das Management hatte - also ich war die rechte Hand im Business von meinem Vater - klar, mein Vater war der Chef, aber ich habe sehr, sehr viel gemacht für die Kelly Family. This history has been hidden, dismissed, and denied and erased from history.  It is time to acknowledge and celebrate African American equestrians. Patricia Kelly is the founder of Ebony Horsewomen, a mission to level the playing field for inner-city youth and give them access to the same opportunities, resources, equine-based programming, and equine-assisted therapy as their suburban counterparts. Patricia lives out this dream with a one-of-a-kind, urban riding center in Hartford Connecticut. Since 1984, Ebony Horsewomen has served their community's youth, families, adults, and military veterans through equine-assisted psychotherapy, therapeutic riding, and a variety of youth programs. Das liegt an “Brave”, einem Duett mit dem kanadischen Popstar Daniel Powter, meint Patricia: “Wir haben gemeinsam diesen Song geschrieben und dann habe ich ihn gefragt, Daniel, hast Du mal Lust, ein Featuring zu machen? Er war sofort dabei. Daniel ist sehr, sehr bekannt in Asien. Das sind wohl eher die Fans von Daniel, aber jetzt bekomme ich auch Followers aus Asien - total abgefahren!” Patricia hatte im Herbst Corona gehabt, und keinen milden Verlauf: “Es war schrecklich. Ich war ja geimpft und habe das gar nicht erwartet, dass mich das so trifft. Ich war erstmal zuhause und dann habe ich irgendwann dann keine Luft mehr bekommen. Also, ich hatte richtig Luftnot und habe sehr viel Angst bekommen und dann hat mich mein Mann ins Krankenhaus gebracht. Ich bin dann isoliert gewesen, auf einer Covidstation. Keine Intensivstation, aber eine Infektionsstation, wo die Schwestern und die Ärzte nur mit diesem Plastikanzug kommen. Es durfte mich niemand besuchen, ich war ganz alleine da, eine ganze Woche. Es ging mir sehr sehr schlecht. Meine Viruslast im Blut war extrem hoch und man wusste nicht, wo die Reise hingeht. Ich habe wirklich Luftnot bekommen, ich war extrem schwach, ich konnte mich kaum aus dem Bett zur Toilette und zurück schleppen…es war wirklich ein schreckliches Erlebnis und ich kann erst heute sagen, dass ich da raus bin. Ich hatte eine Lungentzündung bekommen und die hat auch 6 Wochen gedauert, bis die wirklich weg war….meine Blutwerte sind jetzt endlich wieder ok, nach 3 Monaten.” Kraft hat ihr die Familie gegeben und ihr Glaube. Film historian PATRICIA WARD KELLY is the widow and official biographer of Gene Kelly. She has worked as a writer at a film production company, as a contributing scholar for the authoritative Northwestern/Newberry Writings of Herman Melville, and as a freelance journalist. She and Kelly met at the Smithsonian in 1985, when he was the host/narrator for a television special for which she was a writer. Soon after, he invited her to California to write his memoirs, a job for which she recorded his words nearly every day for over ten years. They were together until his death in 1996. Currently, she serves as Trustee of The Gene Kelly Image Trust, the entity Kelly established during his lifetime to govern the use of his name, voice, likeness, signature, and persona. She is also President and Creative Director of The Gene Kelly Legacy, Inc. a corporation established to celebrate Kelly’s artistry and to perpetuate his legacy worldwide. She lives in Los Angeles where she is completing the book about her late husband. In each episode, we sit down with researchers from a range of disciplines to discuss some of the work which is helping to shape our understanding of Dante, his context and works, and his place in the cultures of the world. In this episode, Dr George Corbett and Dr Patricia Kelly discuss their project to translate Pierre Mandonnet's Dante le théologien (1935) - a work which has largely been neglected by later scholarship but which, as George and Patricia argue, has many provocative arguments which are worth revisiting - about Dante himself, his relationship to the Church, and his presentation of Beatrice. George and Patricia also tell us about the world of Catholic theology in the 1930s, and about the challenges of translating this text for the twenty-first century. George Corbett is Senior Lecturer, and Patricia Kelly is Research Fellow, in the School of Divinity at the University of St Andrews. The conversation is hosted by Matthew Treherne.

Elise’s guest today is Patricia Kelly, President and CEO of Ebony Horsewomen Inc., in Hartford, Connecticut.   What began in 1984 as a cultural enrichment organization made up of African-American female equestrians has evolved into a devoted team of mental health professionals and horse specialists working to guide over 300 at-risk youth annually towards successful lives. Perhaps most importantly, by creating a safe and welcoming oasis, by providing structure, and by teaching self-respect and self-worth, Pat is demonstrating to youngsters who desperately need it, the resonating message that they matter. For her dedication to these youth, Pat has been inducted into the National Cowgirl Hall of Fame and named by CNN as a Top 10 CNN Hero.   In today’s episode, Pat shares how helping at-risk youth extends far beyond teaching them to ride, how the program originated and has evolved, stories of children in the program and how they’ve progressed, and the commonalities Pat has observed that the horses are particularly adept at addressing.
