I had a wonderful time talking about some of the movies Jeremy had chosen for his Essentials Volume 2. Sometimes you may wonder, "Why Oh Why, is this an essential"..Jeremy lets you know. This is from The TCM library but you can get it anywhere books are sold. Jeremy had already done Volume 1. The movies are great. These are movies that my comfort guy Robert Osborne chose, along with a coterie of guests hosts, Drew Barrymore, Alec Baldwin and Sally Field. After the death of Robert, Ben Mankiewicz still hosts the essentials today every Saturday night at 8 PM on TCM. took over. Not only do we get Jeremy's thoughts we get snippets of Roberts and all the hosts. Its a fun read and there are a bunch of movies to check out. I highly recommend book. Lots of great flicks to check out.. Thanks a zillion to Jeremy, he was fun and so knowledgable. He was patient with my digressions (who me?) You can find his books https://www.amazon.com/Jeremy-Arnold/e/B07HFK5386?ref=sr_ntt_srch_lnk_1&qid=1610993155&sr=8-1 Mostly thanks to my listeners. You are da best!! Cinema. The Silver Screen. “The most beautiful fraud in the world,” as Godard once imperiously joshed. Where art and technology coalesce to portray realities akin to that of our wildest dreams. Where the West remains Wild. Where science and fiction transport us to the outer realms of our farthest galaxies. Where our greatest fears manifest into consciousness before our very eyes and love forever triumphs over evil. It could also be where you witness pornstars with eyeballs for nipples accidentally summon a demonic albino spider, pornstars with a penchant for stealing faces attempt to strip-dance for hours and pornstars mispronounce words such as ‘virgin’ while bathing in pools of other pornstars’ blood. That’s right, for this episode of Ex Inferis, Matt, Tom and Jamie endure the odious hellscape of Glenn Danzig’s directorial debut, Verotika. The bois go to absolute town on the who’s, when’s, how’s and, for the love of Beelzebub, the WHY OH WHY’s of this complete career killing car crash of a movie. Grab yourself some milk…or beer…because this is going to be worse than getting knocked out by North Side Kings and claiming it was a set-up…
Walker's Cay is an original rock band based out of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Members include Gary LaBarr, (Vocalist/Rhythm Guitar/Keyboards), Mike Swain, (Lead and Rhythm Guitars), Tim Morrissey (bass) and David, "Dave" Pistilli, (Drums). (http://bettereachday.me/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/TELL-ME-artwork.jpg) Gary LaBarr has gold and platinum record status for his work in various original band projects, working as a musician, producer, and arranger. Mike Swain is considered to be the "technical wizard" for the band, due to his 30-plus years as a licensed control technician at a nuclear power plant. Mike is also a professional recording engineer, specializing in the Pro-Tools recording platform. Tim Morrissey comes to Walker's Cay with quite the resume as a professional bass player and recording artist. He is a "gear geek" in regards to his intense interest in achieving that “perfect” bass sound. Tim loves the older analog components of sound, stating that "anything with tubes, is ALWAYS a good thing!" (http://bettereachday.me/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/WHY-OH-WHY-artwork.jpg) Lastly, David "Dave" Pistilli lays down the tasty "back-beat" that Walker's Cay is known for. With a rock/jazz style type of percussive education, Dave is the epitome of musical class, knowing "what NOT to play" in Walker's Cay music! Walker's Cay gets its name from an "out island" in the Bahamas. It was visited by Gary LaBarr, (a private pilot), and some friends back in the late 1990's. Not only did this beautiful island stand out in Gary's mind throughout his life, but the name of "Walker's Cay" did as well. The music that this band writes, records and performs, is reminiscent of such classic bands as Styx, Journey, Def Leppard, Toto, and Heart, just to name a few. New single, “Tell Me” reached #1 on the iTunes AND Google Play charts in South Africa! www.walkerscay.ca (http://www.walkerscay.ca) https://www.facebook.com/WALKERSCAY/ (https://www.facebook.com/WALKERSCAY/) https://twitter.com/walkerscay1 (https://twitter.com/walkerscay1) CONTACT: Michael Stover MTS Management Group michael@mtsmanagementgroup.com (mailto:michael@mtsmanagementgroup.com)

When Allison Currie decided to start dating again, she found was things had changed from the last time she had been in circulation. The creation of dating apps changed the dating landscape. No problem, Allison is highly adaptable and has a smart phone. Her foray into the dating world started with Match, then Tinder and then Bumble. What she found was enough strange behaviour to write a book. She hasn't written the book yet, but it was enough to appear on this podcast. Allison's story is one of many in a dating world that features the circulation of lewd photos, the acceptance of "ghosting", and bad behaviour. Many of these have been explored in the past on a favourite podcast of mine, Why Oh Why with Andrea Silenzi. We even try to break down if the apps are just permission for men to behave badly in advance of getting to the relationship. Finally, I suspect that there are tales to be told from other side about females behaving badly on dating apps - if you want to tell your story, just e-mail me. matt@hotairpodcast.com Follow us - Instagram Twitter Facebook Support the show: http://paypal.me/mattcundill See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Is it ok to date "just for fun"? What do those one-off connections that come with casual dating mean? While this podcast isn’t just about breakups, something from episode 4 catches my attention. In this mini-episode you’ll hear a clip from my audio-journal (nerd alert) and some words of wisdom from my favourite podcast host. Special thanks to Andrea Silenzi from Why of Why for permission to use her audio. Audio from Why Oh Why is from episode 5 "A Celebration of Awkwardness". Featured music is 3:4 by Noise Complaints.
Friends, it’s been a while. I stopped by the Panoply studios to chat with our old Why Oh Why producer, Lindsey. Somehow, she's been able to fill the hole left by Why Oh Why by working on another show called Bad With Money with Gaby Dunn, and I think you'll love it. To get you started, here's an episode called Health is Wealth. Be sure to listen to the end to find out why it was harder for Lindsey to make an episode of Why Oh Why about her birth control than it was to write about what’s going on in her savings account. About Bad With Money: Join TV writer, actor, and New York Times best-selling author Gaby Dunn (aka America's Deadbeat Sweetheart) for season three of Bad With Money. After two seasons of reckoning with her own financial identity, Gaby's ready to give the American financial system an identity crisis. Every week, Gaby brings a queer, feminist, unabashedly radical point of view to conversations with celebrities, journalists, politicians, authors, activists, and fellow deadbeats. If you're sick of podcast "experts" giving you practical financial advice, you're going to love Bad With Money - the show that knows there's nothing practical about money, and isn't afraid to freak out about it. LOTL The Zone Welcomes Danielle Apicella. Her Latest release " WHY OH WHY "
“Hey.” “Going to the supermarket, want me to get you anything?” “Puppies or ice cream?” “What’s your glasses prescription?” “I wanna ***** your *********.” If you’ve used a dating app, maybe you’ve received one of the above messages from a stranger, or sent them. Striking up an interaction with someone is a tricky business. Why Oh Why and Longest Shortest Time host Andrea Silenzi opens up her phone to analyse the kinds of opening messages people send on dating apps, and how easily they can land badly. Hey guys. Remember me? You know, Andrea Silenzi? It hasn't been that long. I popped back in the studio for a little update, and because Why Oh Why's producer, Lindsey, had some news to tell me. And no, this is not a new episode of Why Oh Why. It's an episode of a new podcast, cohosted by Kristen Meinzer and James Barr, called When Meghan Met Harry: A Royal Weddingcast. It's all about the most important wedding in all our lives: the wedding of Meghan Markle to Prince Harry. In each episode of the show, Kristen and James obsess over all things royal wedding - and create a safe space for you to obsess as well. Todays episode of Join Up Dots is a solo show, where your host David Ralph talk about what he considers the four key success principles in life. You see he has been through a hell of a journey and sometimes you need to stop and reflect on what is really important to you, and your business going forward. It's not all grind you know, or at least it shouldnt be as who wants a life that is just work all the time? But that is most certainly what so many people have day to day. Deal with the kids, keep the wife happy, take out the rubbish, dal with clients, do their tax returns, break a sweat at every opportunity until its time to go to bed. Five hours or tossing and turning and then you are back at it. A hamster on a wheel, running, running and running until you burnout. And believe me, I see this time and time again, and have actually done the same thing twice before in my own life. So in todays episode of Join Up Dots I share my insights into what I feel builds success quicker than anything else after receiving an email from a gentleman in Holland who said "David, I have listened to many shows that talk about success and how to get it and I was wondering do you have your own success principles that you follow...thank you Chris H Reed" Let's start with Success Principles One Have Belief In Your Future And Your Actions There is no doubt in my mind that belief is the corner stone of what makes success. You have to believe that you will be able to achieve your dream, even though you dont know how you are going to do it. You have to have belief in something, and like Steve Jobs says in his famous Stanford Speech, it can be gut, intuition, karma whatever. But you have to believe in something. So surround yourself with images of people who are already doing what you want to do, and follow their blogs, email marketing whatever. Look at yourself every morning in the mirror and tell yourself "I can do this. It doesnt matter how long it will take, but I CAN DO it!" Believe that you can do it, and do everything you can to surround yourself with stuff to explode that belief network. Grow Confidence Because Of Your Failures Not Your Successes Success is great, and successes are what we all want. But a success after success life is never going to happen. And in a funny kind of way you dont want them to happen either. You see when it comes to the success principles it's the failures that are the true winners. It's the failures that build the old hustle muscle and makes your ultimate destination even better. So don't sweat it when things go wrong. Don't scream at the heavens "Why oh Why Oh Why!!" instead look at what went wrong and learn from it, so you dont make the same mistake again. And that my friends is the second of the Join Up Dots Success Principles...grow confidence because of your failures not your successes. Freetime = Me Time = Future Building a business is hard. Probably one of the hardest things you will ever do, and its your responsibility to look after your health as much as you do your email inbox. So take time off. Walk away from the business that you are creating and allow yourself to breath fresh air. Spend time with your kids, and your special person. Watch TV, in fact do anything other than work, as I promise you you will be better for it. A human is nothing more than a battery that needs recharging, and by re-charging you will work better. So get the ideas flowing back into your life, enjoy yourself and take heed of the success principles part three: Freetime = Me Time = Future Start Today Not Tomorrow Deep down everyone is scared of starting something new as there is a chance that they will fail. So we put if off. We think that if we wait until tomorrow we will be in a better place to rock this thing to its core. But of course tomorrow never comes. As tomorrow becomes today and tomorrow is well....tomorrow. So the final Success principle is 100% start. It doesnt have to be perfect. It doesnt have to make sense. But start as soon as you can, as what you are aiming for is to build up momentum in your life until it does start to make sense. You are looking to build the belief that what you are doing is going to work, and that only occurs by starting. And that my friends is the four success principles as I see them in my own life, and I certainly think that you cant go far wrong by bringing them into your own. This week on “Lady Problems,” the MTV News podcast dedicated to pop culture’s treatment of women, Hazel Cills and Rachel Handler co-host alongside Andrea Silenzi. Andrea is the host of "Why Oh Why," a weekly podcast in which she speaks with friends, experts, and guys in bars about where love and sex meets technology. We talk to Andrea about her undying love for the Bachelor franchise — which Hazel has never seen and which makes Rachel feel like a bad person. Later, — and **spoiler alert** — Hazel and Rachel pose as characters from this year's Oscar-nominated films to ask Andrea for relationship advice (i.e., should Jennifer Lawrence's Passengers character stay with Chris Pratt's, even though he woke her up against her will on a century-long trip to a new planet?). Finally, all three women answer a Lady Problem from a concerned mother.
This week Sam sits down with fellow podcaster, Andrea Silenzi. She is the host of the electrifying Panoply show “Why Oh Why,” which explores the intricate worlds of love, relationships, and feminism. This week on Unorthodox, we’re getting into the Valentine’s Day spirit. Or as we call it around here, Secular Tu B’Av. Our Jewish guest is Israeli-American novelist and essayist Ayelet Waldman, whose latest book, A Really Good Day chronicles her experience taking microdoses of LSD to treat her mood disorder. She explains what microdosing is and how it helped her and her marriage, and tells us what it’s like to be married to another writer. Our second guest is a self-described “pizza bagel”—half Jewish, half Italian. Andrea Silenzi is the host and producer of “Why Oh Why,” a podcast about dating and relationships. She tells us how people use emojis to signal their Jewishness on dating apps like Tinder, whether it’s hard to date while hosting a podcast about dating, and the challenges educated women in New York City face when seeking a partner. Our Gentile of the Week would call us gentiles, too. Laurel Thatcher Ulrich is a history professor at Harvard and a practicing Mormon. Her latest book is A House Full of Females: Plural Marriage and Women’s Rights in Early Mormonism. She tells us the unexpected ways in which plural marriage empowered the women involved in it, and why the practice was ultimately abolished. We're also joined by Noam Osband, who performs some original love-themed songs on the ukulele. Sign up for our weekly newsletter to get new episodes, behind-the-scenes photos, and more! Mallory and guest Andrea Silenzi of Slate podcast “Why Oh Why” take on big issues, starting with the weighty question of how long you should wait to move on when someone you’re dating goes missing at sea. Then to your letters: I was ready to forgive my mom for how badly she handled my coming-out, but I just learned she also outed me to my whole family — what now? I set a goal to start a relationship in 2016, and it didn’t happen — what’s next? I’m worried that my son isn’t mine — should I take a paternity test? Finally: Mallory gives Andrea some radical dating advice. And a special note this week: we’ve got a letter concerning someone having suicidal thoughts. If that sounds like you or someone you know, call the National Suicide Prevention Hotline at 1-800-273-8255, or you can chat with them or find resources at https://suicidepreventionlifeline.org/. Sometimes, love is a private feeling between two people. Other times, it's a declaration from the rooftops, a wedding announcement, or a public kiss. For the last three years Andrea Silenzi has been broadcasting her love life— and disasters— on her podcast Why Oh Why. She recorded her first date with her most recent boyfriend, as well as fights and their heartbreaking split. But she also blurs the truth— taking a cue from inspired-by-life novelists, she blends fact with fiction and invites actors to interact with real-life guests. Silenzi discusses honesty, deception, memoir, heartbreak, and why Donald Trump ruined her orgasms. Meanwhile, host Maureen O'Connor argues that sexual truthfulness is extra important post-Trump. "When you make something, it’s almost like there’s a canon and all of these people’s voices come into this canon: your mom’s voice, Ira Glass’s voice, your neighbor down the street--his voice. And it’s up to you to find the thing that feels true and resonates with your heart and to like take that out and put that into words." -- Megan Tan, Millennial podcast That’s what Megan Tan tries to do every time she sits down in her closet to record an episode of Millennial, her podcast about maneuvering through your twenties. Andrea Silenzi is the creator and host of Why Oh Why?. She's also the Senior Producer of Slate's The Gist.* "I listen to a lot of radio and there's so much of 'This person wrote a book.' 'This person has a project.' 'This person has been working on this for years.' And I just think that I much prefer conversations where people have a personal connection that's at stake. ... Like I always get the pitch of I want to do speed dating and it's like no one I've ever known has actually sincerely ever done speed dating. So If I were to do a show about speed dating it would be the most inauthentic thing possible." (*This episode is guest hosted by Avery Trufelman.)
