Founder of Hobby Lobby, David Green, released a new book called The Legacy Life: Leading Your Family to Make a Difference for Eternity, that offers a Biblical framework for building multigenerational impact. In this conversation, hosts, Joey Svendsen and Jack Hoey, Jr. talk with David and co-author, Bill High, about the principles shared in their book, as well as a little about the Hobby Lobby story. From humble beginnings, David set out to be people-oriented in all of his business practices, including being generous with Hobby Lobby's earnings—giving half to charities and outreaches. David and Bill share what life truly is about—spoiler alert, it's not money.  The Legacy Life presents a paradigm-shifting perspective on living with eternal significance. Rather than accepting the conventional work until retirement approach, Green and High call readers to embrace a biblical, generational mindset that creates lasting impact across multiple generations. At top of episode, the host crew discuss their current heart postures toward money and share some disagreement about the vegetable, corn. David Green: Founder/CEO of Hobby Lobby employing 50,000 people at 1,000 stores in 48 states and grosses nearly $8 billion a year. David, his wife, Barbara, and their children, grandchildren, and great-grands all live in Oklahoma City. Bill High: CEO of Legacy Stone, a ministry dedicated to helping families thrive today and for generations to come. Creative Destruction Drives Lasting Growth – Businesses must embrace constant change in laws, culture, and technology to thrive. Future-Proof Skills Are Decision-Driven – With AI taking over analysis, the most valuable skill will be high-level decision-making—learn how to think, not just what. Hiring for Thinking, Not Just Doing – Assess candidates' real-world logic, not just their credentials; team diversity in thinking styles is critical. Keep Your Equity—Use Vendor Financing and Loans – Giving away business equity isn't necessary and often isn't in investors' best interests; be creative about funding. Bake Legacy Into Your Foundation – Transformational businesses write their values, model, and succession plans into their DNA—plan to outlast yourself. Generosity Multiplies Results – Paying employees well, leading with purpose, and putting others first creates loyalty, quality, and joy throughout an organization. Favorite Quotes “You've got to change behavior. You can give them a product, but if they don't change behavior, they're not going to use the product.” “Profits are made in the denominator, not the numerator… margins are hard to increase, but investment can be reduced.” “There are no U-Hauls in heaven—it's not about the money. We're making too much change to sell out.” Explore how you can boost profits, change lives, and leave a legacy—with insights you can put to work in your business today. What attracted God? Sarah refused to allow the “labels” to define her! (Cultural, religious, familial….) She was NOT Barren in spirit! (Luke 1:7-25) She resisted bitterness, blame, and overcame disappointment. Intimacy with the Lord granted her Faith, perseverance, submission to the process (conception, pregnancy, etc.) Sarah's humility made her attracted to God's favor and promotion! (Luke 14:11) ✽We can and we must have and nourish life in our heart (spirit) when there is death in our circumstances. Sarah's provided a “safe place”, encouragement, and older model of a true “spiritual Mother” to Mary! Sarah pronounced a Blessing on Mary in her time of great need! (Luke 1:42-45) Sarah's pain became the backdrop for God's story! She birthed and mothered, John the Baptist, forerunner of Jesus! Jesus said there was no prophet greater! Continued faith and trust will be rewarded!

Can any woman change the world?  Discover the potential of women to be world changers with this week's inspiring guest, Brooke Kehl! Brooke Kehl, Marketing Director of Eastern European Mission, explores what it really means for women to step into their calling, take faith-driven risks, and create ripple effects of hope across the globe. Brooke shares her personal journey growing up in a missionary family, the powerful influence of other women's testimonies, and moving stories of transformation—like Zara's courageous faith despite its manifold risks to her life. This episode is filled with authentic conversations about overcoming the comfort zone, staying faithful through challenges, and practical encouragement for anyone wondering if they're truly cut out to make a difference. Listen in to learn how ordinary acts and steadfast faith can change lives around the world—and how you, too, are invited to become a world changer right where you are. Catch Up: Highlights from Our Episode with Brooke Kehl Brooke's journey began in East Africa, where she learned firsthand what “risky faith” looks like from her missionary parents. Over the past seven years with EEM, she's devoted her life to spreading hope across cultures, and in our conversation, she opens up about the power of testimony, stepping out of your comfort zone, and why courage starts with experiencing God's love. Stories That Inspire Action Brooke shares the story of Zahra, a refugee from Afghanistan, whose life—and that of her husband—was forever changed by encountering Jesus through a Bible in her own language. Despite facing grave danger, Zahra's courage ignited a ripple effect that started a church among other Afghans and led to an entirely new chapter of hope for many. Another unforgettable story is that of Faena from Kazakhstan, who memorized just one verse of scripture in a prison cell—and discovered transformative love and purpose, now passing on that hope to others in Central Asia. Real Talk: Choosing Calling Over Comfort Brooke doesn't pretend risk-taking is easy. She honestly shares her struggle with comfort and reveals how leaning on God for strength—and surrounding herself with inspiring women—has kept her moving forward, even when it feels easier to quit. How You Can Make A Difference Today You might wonder, “Am I really a world changer?” Brooke says YES! You don't need to travel the globe to live on mission. Opening your heart to people around you—at a coffee shop, in your neighborhood, in daily conversations—can change lives. Every small step, backed by God's love, matters. Join Rachel, Sarah and Lucy as we celebrate those people who change the world, be it campaigning for the right to medical treatment, supporting other parents, breaking down barriers, or just making a nuisance of themselves to get the voices of disabled people heard. On this week's episode we open up by reflecting on some of the world changers we know*, and reflect on why and how this is different for the disability community. Rachel is then joined by Hannah Deacon, whose dedication to campaigning for patients' rights succeeded when the law changed on 1 November 2018, which led to cannabis becoming legal as a medical treatment. Her successful campaign on behalf of son Alfie Dingley, who lives with a rare and severe form of epilepsy, led to his doctors receiving the first schedule one license to prescribe whole-plant cannabis in the UK. Jennifer Doudna changed the world. She didn't do it intentionally. She pursued her curiosity about the structure and functioning of RNA as a research scientist, one who had been trained by some of the most impactful geneticists at the time, including two Nobel laureates. In the process, however, she and her collaborators discovered a genetic tool that has dwarfed all others for its potential to change both the human condition, but also what it may mean to be human. I am referring of course to CRISPR, the tool that Jennifer Doudna and Emmanuelle Charpentier helped develop and for which they were awarded the Nobel Prize. In our in-depth conversation we covered the scientific origins of Jennifer's discoveries, and some of their possible implications. In a time when there is a misplaced notion that support for scientific research needs to be applied directly for certain goal-oriented activities, it is refreshing to have such a clear example of the benefits of fundamental research for our society, along with the need to prepare our minds for the possibilities of the future. It is exactly what the Origins Podcast, and the Origins Project Foundation are designed to highlight—the joy, benefits, and challenges of human intellectual inquiry for our society and our future. It was a pleasure and privilege to spend 90 minutes discussing these issues with this world-renowned biochemist and advocate for science. Our conversation was both a tutorial about modern genetics, and also an opportunity to discuss issues that society as a whole will have address as we come to grips with the new power of science in this century. With great power comes great responsibility, and I hope discussions such as the one I had with Jennifer will provoke and enlighten. Enjoy. How can we glorify God and bless others when we're stretched to capacity? Are we really supposed to change the world when there's work to be done, the house needs cleaning, and the kids are screaming? Today's guest, Drew Dyck, is here to let us all in on a little secret: God doesn't expect you to do everything! He wants you to be faithful, not famous, and just show up in your everyday, ordinary life. That's actually how we change the world! Drew is a writer, speaker, and the author of the countercultural book, “Just Show Up.” Today, he starts by explaining where our misled desire to change the world came from and how social media has led many to believe that “celebrity Christian” status is both desirable and within reach. He shares why self-expressive individualism and authenticity are overrated and issues a call to remember the importance of our roles in others' lives. He ends with a challenge: where are the places that all Christians must “show up” for each other? Listen now! Have you benefitted personally from Truth Over Tribe or seen it have a positive effect on someone you know? have you used the podcast, book, or blog as a catalyst for conversation on polarizing topics? Mohamad Jebara is a visionary thinker, artist, entrepreneur, and public speaker. From delivering newspapers and recycling discarded items as a child to fund his Islamic education, he has journeyed through diverse fields to become a senior Islamic scholar and a best-selling author of 109 books. Completing his memorization of the Quran by age 12, he developed expertise in Semitic languages, history, Biblical studies, and Islamic jurisprudence. At 13, he founded Cordova Academy to make classical Arabic and Quranic learning accessible to a Western audience. He has served hundreds of communities globally as Chief Imam, taught over 40,000 students through various academic institutes, and been hailed as the “coolest Imam” for his charitable efforts. His work bridges cultural and religious divides, and his biography, “Muhammad the World-Changer,” has received critical acclaim. Listen & Subscribe on: iTunes / Stitcher / Podbean / Overcast / Spotify Contact Info Website: https://www.mohamadjebara.com What Were You Like As A 5-Year-Old? I've always been very curious. As a five-year-old, I explored the world, trying to understand rainbows and trees. One funny memory involves me spending more time with my friends' parents than with my friends, learning from their experiences. I would chat with them for hours about the world, science, and weather. Even though much of what they told me was made up, I discovered later on that my curiosity drove me to understand how things work beneath the surface. This curiosity led me to pursue a career in research and writing as I strive to uncover the deeper roots and underlying causes of various subjects. The Message of Mohamad's Teachings If there's one lesson, I would say it is the importance of forming a healthy mindset. This is a lifelong struggle because we're always working on keeping our minds balanced. Achieving this involves being open to diverse ideas, sharing, and staying flexible. Prophet Muhammad's formula for a healthy mindset includes three stages: gathering knowledge from diverse sources, analyzing and dissecting this information, and then creating something impactful. This process of learning, analyzing, and transforming information into groundbreaking actions is central to a healthy mindset. These principles are reflected in my works, including “Muhammad, the World-Changer” and “The Life of the Qur'an.” This approach underscores the core teachings and my ongoing efforts to develop and maintain a balanced and impactful mindset. Words of Advice Be open to ideas. You will be surprised. Sometimes, we limit ourselves by our judgment, misconceptions of the world, or prejudices. It's important to keep yourself open to learn from anybody. Anyone can teach you. And I've learned so much from people that you would think don't know anything. Regular people, people cleaning the street, and children have taught me so much wisdom.
