"Are you seeking great things for yourself? Don't do it!" Jeremiah 45:5 True spiritual maturity is not attained by self-confidence, but by increasing humility. The nearer a believer draws to Jesus, the more clearly he sees the infinite holiness of the Lord, and his own utter sinfulness. John Newton, the once-blind wretch who was made to see, captured this spiritual paradox with profound simplicity: "Young Christians think themselves little; growing Christians think themselves nothing; mature Christians think themselves less than nothing." The newborn Christian, freshly awakened by grace, is rightly humbled. He sees that he is not what he once was, and rejoices in the mercy that saved him. He thinks himself LITTLE--small compared to the greatness of the gift he's received. But as he grows, trials deepen, sin's deceitfulness is more fully exposed, and the battle against the 'old man' intensifies. The Christian begins to understand that in his flesh there dwells no good thing (Romans 7:18). He no longer thinks himself little--he thinks himself NOTHING. And yet, by this humbling, Jesus becomes more precious. Then, through years of chastening, refining, and communion with God, the mature believer--like Paul--confesses himself to be "less than the least of all God's people" (Ephesians 3:8). He realizes that even his best deeds are stained with sin, that all his righteousness is as filthy rags, and that apart from Jesus he is LESS THAN NOTHING. Yet this is not despair--it is joy. For the smaller he becomes in his own eyes, the greater Jesus becomes to his soul. This is the path of grace: downward in self, and upward in Jesus. The more we are emptied of self, the more we

In this thought-provoking discussion, we dive into the concept of "thick" or "full-package" Christianity, exploring how young people today are seeking deeper, more rooted expressions of faith. We contrast this with the current trends of deconstruction and exvangelicalism, shedding light on how many are looking beyond the superficiality of modern church models, yearning for practices that engage their entire lives. From ancient rituals to communal bonds, this conversation highlights the tension between embracing rich theological traditions and navigating the cultural shifts shaping Christianity today. If you're a Christian passionate about theological depth and current events, this conversation is for you—examining the search for stability, authenticity, and meaning in a rapidly changing world.DONATE LINK: https://toltogether.com/donate BOOK A SPEAKER: https://toltogether.com/book-a-speakerJOIN TOL CONNECT: https://toltogether.com/tol-connect TOL Connect is an online forum where TOL listeners can continue the conversation begun on the podcast.

Do you ever get the sense that there's growing confusion among Christians on issues we should all agree on? Young Christians today seem especially vulnerable when it comes to discerning right from wrong according to God's Word. What's causing this gap between biblical Christianity and how it's lived out in the modern world? And what does the Bible REALLY say about the most controversial issues that our culture faces today? This week, the great Greg Koukl, President of Stand to Reason and bestselling author of 'Tactics' and, more recently 'Street Smarts', sits down with Frank during CIA 2024 to explore why so many Christians (both young and old) are struggling to answer EASY questions about the faith, the pro-life position, and sexual morality. During their conversation, Frank and Greg will answer questions like:Why does Christianity fit reality better than any other worldview? Can you be pro-life and pro-capital punishment? How are people attempting to sanitize immorality? Why have gender norms become such a controversial issue, and how did Jesus address marriage and sexuality? Why are so many young Christians compromising on sexual ethics, and what sexual norms are on the horizon?Greg leaves no room for confusion on these hot-button topics, as he allows the Scriptures to speak loud and clear. So sit back and enjoy this insightful podcast episode, where Frank and Greg will encourage you to stand strong in your faith and not fall by the wayside in response to peer pressure from secular culture. In this podcast, J. Warner talks about four simple strategies to help strengthen the faith and understanding of young believers. How can parents help their children? Are our efforts little more than religious “indoctrination”? Jim also responds to two skeptical objections (in the wake of the Easter season) as examples of how to respond to the kinds of questions our kids may have.
Pesach and Doug sit down with the new Executive Director of the Philos Project, Luke Moon, and the conversation takes some interesting twists and turns. They start off with a discussion of the pro-Hamas protests at Columbia University, and a recent rally where Luke helped lead 5000 Christians in a pro-Israel march on its campus. As the conversation progresses, Luke argues that older Millenials are far more anti-Israel than Gen Z, while Doug and Pesach offer their own take on the reasons for that counterintuitive conclusion. They also talk about eschatology, politics, Trump, whether many Christians understand the importance of this historical moment, and much more. You'll enjoy this conversation, and perhaps leave with a little hope.

As we learned in our previous lesson on Acts and Hebrews, when Paul first began preaching this new message of salvation in Jesus, he began by showing how Jesus was the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy. As he moves further away from Jerusalem and begins to preach to people who aren't as familiar with the Bible, he runs into both new questions and new challenges. Many of these are specific to the particular location he writes to and these letters to the Thessalonians are a good example of this as he confronts a new source of persecution that is political, not simply a religious disagreement. In the midst of this challenge, Paul encourages the young Christians with a reminder of the coming of Jesus and specific advice on how they ought to live as they wait for Him. In the lesson, we look at the familiar commands to “Pray continuously,” “Give thanks in all things,” and “Rejoice always” along with ideas on how to practice them in our lives. To help us remember these commands and the hope we have as we obey them, the lesson also has a link to a free download of the printable, “All will be well,” by Dame Julian. Day 141 Today's Reading: 1 Corinthians 8 People see Christian maturity as I don't mess up a lot like I used to. I see it differently. Maturity is when you see others before you see yourself. That's what 1 Corinthians 8 is about. It's an encouragement to live the Christian life wider and bigger. And by that, Paul means that our decisions and lives are to help others grow. How I parent, how I treat my wife, what I do with my free time, what I listen to, and what I watch is not just about me, but it's to be an example to others. As A. W. Tozer said, “There are rare Christians whose very presence incites others to be better Christians. I want to be that rare Christian.” At our church we have four services every Sunday, each with the same message. One of our elders had a conversation with me one Sunday when I wasn't preaching but was at each service since I was participating. His words both encouraged and inspired me. At our 5 p.m. service, he said to me, “I can't believe the way you listened to that sermon. Wasn't this the fourth time you heard it today?” “Yes,” I said. “You looked like you never heard it before,” he said. “You sat on the edge of your seat and took notes as if this were the first time you ever heard that sermon.” What I learned from that interaction: (1) people are watching our lives; (2) we can inspire others unknowingly by our decisions. I chose to take notes. I chose to be excited four times. I chose to sit on the edge of my seat and put myself in the posture of a learner. I just forgot that it could be an example for someone else. I realized that a good example is more powerful than a good sermon. In 1 Corinthians 8 Paul is showing this same principle but from a different standpoint—but still with the power of influencing others. He speaks about the freedom that Christians have, though we must be careful if our freedom trips up someone newer and weaker in the faith. The challenge Paul gives us is that it isn't for them to step it up; it's for me to take a step back and a step down for their benefit.” Here's what he says: Christ gave up his life for that person. Wouldn't you at least be willing to give up going to dinner for him—because, as you say, it doesn't really make any difference? But it does make a difference if you hurt your friend terribly, risking his eternal ruin! When you hurt your friend, you hurt Christ. A free meal here and there isn't worth it at the cost of even one of these “weak ones.” So, never go to these idol-tainted meals if there's any chance it will trip up one of your brothers or sisters. (1 Corinthians 8:11-13, MSG) We must care for their growth by adjusting ourselves for their sakes. If a nice hotel that we stay at has a casino and if that trips up anyone who has stumbled with gambling, then guess what? We don't stay there. For their sake. This could be with the music we listen to or a movie with a certain rating we watch. If it affects a weaker or younger Christian, we stop—for their sake. Why? Because maturity in the Christian life is putting others first. It's living a life that is not just about ourselves but about seeing and being concerned for others. Young Christians are called children in the Bible. James Baldwin said something profound about elders and children that can apply to parenting and even in the church: “Children have never been very good at listening to their elders, but they have never failed to imitate them.” Paul is preaching that example in 1 Corinthians 8. He wants us to realize that it's others before ourselves, which is a sign of maturity. I remember as a teenager in church someone telling me, “Tim, do you know what joy stands for? Jesus first, others second, you last.” That still holds true today. If you want joy .

It's finally over. 50 years of federally backed abortions have come to an end. In a shocking turn of events, this past Friday, the SCOTUS overruled the landmark abortion case, Roe vs. Wade. Now "the right to an abortion" is no longer considered to be protected under the U.S. Constitution. This is a monumental win for the Church and for the unborn. We know, however, that our Christian values on the topic of abortion are very unpopular, especially among young people. This is why we must know why we believe what we believe, and have answers for those who differ in belief. How should young Christians feel about abortion? Can a Christian be pro-choice?

In this episode, I talk with Tori Goebel, national organizer and spokesperson for Young Evangelicals for Climate Action (YECA). They have taken the lead in preparing young people to lead the discussion on climate in the church and community. We discuss how young Christians see the environmental movement, what type of actions they want to take to fight climate change, if they should talk with their parents about these issues, and the inspiring stories of the young leaders coming out of Young Evangelicals for Climate Action. Today's episode is a little different. In the wake of the horrific tragedy of the Uvalde, Texas School Shooting, America is discussing gun control once again. While young Christians see and injustice and are moved to make change, they immediately jump on our Second Amendment rights; clamping down on freedoms to attain safety. There's a fundamental ignorance among young believers concerning our rights as American citizens, and that needs to change. 21% of Gen Z identifies as LGBT according to a 2022 Gallup Poll. Both parents and churches are failing to keep them safe. Research tells us there are surprisingly large benefits to health and wellbeing associated with church attendance. Unfortunately, there is a dark side to religion, particularly for some young Christians and members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
