Today I am talking about how to transform your body based on which of the three different body types you are most like. Without taking this into consideration you could be spinning your wheels following a fitness program that is based on a completely body type from yours. In fact, did you know that the vast majority of weight loss and fitness research is based on 25-year-old men? It's no wonder a lot of these one-approach fits all programs don't work for most people! In recent years, I have seen more programs advertising that they customize the program to your body. Yet, when you get int there, you find it isn't really what you'd think based on the advertising. For example, they will have everyone follow the same workouts, the same nutrition approach, or both. Someone who struggles to gain weight and wants to transform their body to gain some muscle and shape will need a very different approach from someone who wants to lose body fat and tone their physique. So, today I am discussing the best approaches for each of the three somatotypes. In this episode I am covering: Re-cap on the three somatotypes Body Transformation for Ectomorph. Body Transformation for Mesomorph. Body Transformation for Endomorph.

Just this week, the FDA is deciding whether or not milk alternatives (like Oat Milk and Almond Milk) are allowed to be called “milk”, even though they don't come from an udder. Regardless of what their decision ends up being, you probably only care about whether or not you should be drinking these milk alternatives in the first place. Podcast listener Amanda recently sent me this question: “I'm wondering about whether or not I should be adding non-dairy milk to my smoothies. I can't do dairy at all, and so I've been substituting with oat milk. But I've wondered if oat milk is actually a carb that I shouldn't be having. Should I count that toward a workout or does it not count because it's in a different form?” In this shortie episode, I provide tips on exactly how to deal with the carbs in milk alternatives, insulin sensitivity, and why this even matters based on your goals. Having a growth mindset, prioritizing strength training, knowing your body type, and practicing regular self-care are the keys to taking control of your life. I'm joined by Dr. Weili Gray, a sleep and lifestyle physician who recently took one of my programs, to talk about the benefits she's seen in her life since adopting my recommended practices.   Key Takeaway Prioritize your self-care to improve all areas of your life. What do you do for your health, fitness, and well-being?   About Dr. Weili Gray Dr. Weili Gray is a board-certified sleep, integrative, and lifestyle medicine physician who practices in Vermont. She is also a Registered Life Planner and the founder of Dare to Dream Physician, where she offers life planning and hosts a weekly podcast.   The Importance of Body Types and Strength Training I've just met Dr. Weili Gray, but honestly, I feel like I've known her for a long time. What I love most about her, and it's evident in this conversation, is how much she values her self-care. She also has a growth mindset which helps her continuously develop herself, her life, and her goals. Dr. Gray says that she never used to prioritize strength training, but now that she does include it in her movement routine, she's seeing the benefits across her life. Not only did she learn about the importance of strength training during my program, but Dr. Gray also learned about different body types! She really stresses how much her knowledge of her own body's needs developed when she started understanding the different body types out there. She also learned that actually making time for exercise is so beneficial to her as an ectomorph, the naturally slender body type.   Prioritize Yourself for More Control in Your Life Dr. Gray explains why she prioritizes investing in herself. She says that it makes her a better person all around - she feels she improves in her roles as mom, wife, and physician when she practices self-care and puts her own needs first. When she practices regular self-care, including her four days of exercise, Dr. Gray says she feels more in control of her life. She's less stressed and better equipped to focus on everything she has going on. Dr. Gray also explains how she includes her family in her self-care routine and helps encourage their health and wellness, too. Finally, we talk about the importance of adopting a growth mindset. It's fine to know this stuff in principle, but to actually put it into practice takes dedication and a desire to grow as a person. Have you adopted a growth mindset to improve your life? How often do you include your self-care practices in your routine? What do you do? Let me know what works best for you in the comments on the episode page!   In This Episode  How strength training is a tool for wellness [4:45] The impact of learning about different body types [6:00] What happens when you make time to exercise [9:00] How investing in yourself impacts your goals and plans [18:00] How practicing self-care helps you feel more in control of your life [19:45] What happens when you include your family in your self-care journey [21:30] The importance of adopting a growth mindset [27:00]   Quotes “What I learned and solidified in your program is that running is great, it's good to move your body. Any kind of movement, even walking, as you say. But that's not enough. It doesn't address all the muscle groups. This was my lightbulb moment. This is my new step. I'm going to uplevel myself as an athlete. Not only am I going to be a runner, but I'm also so excited that [strength training] is going to be my goal!” [16:11] “I already feel that I am a better person. I'm a better mom, I'm a better wife, I'm a better physician because I actually feel and prioritize, at least four days a week, my self-care. Really putting that first is so important.” [18:48] “The little things that we do every day add up to how we feel. I want to continue that!” [19:38] “Once you find your why, it's so much easier to make decisions, prioritize your life, design your life in a way that's in full alignment with who you are, what you really want, and why you're on Earth.” [30:28]   Resources Mentioned Listen to the Dare to Dream Physician Podcast Find Dr. Weili Gray Online Follow Dr. Weili Gray on Facebook | Instagram | LinkedIn Check out the full episode page here Find Life Coaching for Women Physicians Online Follow Dr. Ali Novitsky on Facebook | Instagram  Subscribe to Life Coaching for Women Physicians on Apple Podcasts Podcast production by the team at Counterweight Creative   Related Episodes Episode 96: Dr. Shillcutt on Discovering Self-Love Through Boundaries Episode 106: Honoring Your Authentic Body Episode 105: Go All-In On You

Happy Thursday, Limitless Family. Let's talk about your health and wellness journey and the three different levels to understand. So, beginner, you're at the first steps in your journey. You're learning how to implement daily healthy habitual habits. Intermediate. You are starting to understand macros and calories and how different percentages work in your body while having a foundation of fitness. And advanced. You understand nutrition, macros, calories. You're at the point of implementing refeeds, carb cycling, carb backloading, and various other tools to get to peak performance. Your training is now pushing you into periodization training using percentages based on one-rep maxes introducing specialized training techniques. Understanding your starting point is the first step in your transformation. And before you jump into any program, let me give you a couple tips in understanding your starting point. Do you have healthy, habitual habits set in your life? Do you drink enough water? 100-120 oz at least. Do you get at least 7500 steps in a day? Do you know the necessary amount of protein you need daily? Do you know your body type? Ectomorph, Mesomorph, Endomorph? See, within Limitless, I started to understand the different levels of clients that come to us and I started to create programs for each level. When you step into the journey of transforming your life through health and wellness, understanding where you are is the first step. This week it's just little old me again and because it's almost the end of the year, and it's been a while since I've done one of these, I'm clearing up health and fitness myths.First I go over the idea of somato-types (body-types such as ectomorph, endomorph and mesomorph) and whether that affects your diet and training. Has the idea of body-types really been debunked, as some claim?Do you "need to make sure you get protein with every meal"? And what exactly does that actually mean? 5oz of beef or chicken, as some people recommend?Should you have breakfast every day to "kickstart your metabolism"?Should you, or should you not, have carbs later in the day? What about "boosting your immune system" by taking certain supplements? And is a 30-minute brisk walk really enough exercise to keep you healthy? No in the news this week as there really wasn't that much being reported, but I do talk a bit about the next few episodes.Remember to follow us on Instagram and Facebook for the competitions, wisdom and cute videos. Coming from a broken home with a single mom raising him and his brother, life was hard for his family and when he found fitness it became his escape. Training begins with body types, which of the 3 are you? Ectomorph, Mesomorph, Endomorph, focus on your body type to begin with. At 21 with the help of his wrestling coach, Dimitri was able to compete in his first show and he won. From there he worked in fitness clubs, good and bad ones, mostly bad ones, he saw where they could improve and how to improve. With the guidance of a mentor, Dimitri left the corporate life, and he took a chance and went on his own and built Pure Motivation Fitness, that was 15 years ago.Dimitri discusses customizing your fitness goals to your body type and truly understand why he is going to suggest eating habits, exercise techniques, weight training to suit your body. Dimitri wants to be your coach; everyone needs a coach to make sure you are held accountable to your health and fitness goals. 3 Key principles, Mindset, Training and Nutrition last.Dimitri isn't here to preach, he's here to help you change your life for the better, loosing body fat adds years of extra life. It's simply about taking bad habits and placing good habits in front of it, that is how you slowly change your day-to-day events, such as smoking. Accept, Acknowledge and Advance, 3 counts of accountability. Tim Lyons once taught Dimitri, “embrace the suck” Covid happened, and he had to embrace the suck to get over it.Dimitri shares some great insight into the medical industry and how to handle your doctor, your injuries, and avoiding pharmaceutical assistance. Progress will sometimes come easy and sometimes will come difficult. No matter what scenario you're in, progress can still be achieved. The more education you have about YOUR OWN body, the better control you will have in understanding why you're: losing weight, gaining weight, not progressing, ect. You are born with a specific genetic make up. This is why you stand the way you stand, or walk the way you walk. This is also why others are naturally stronger or can build muscle faster. But just because you are genetically given a way of life, does not mean you don't have the power to change it! The 3 Key Takeaways: The three body types are: ectomorph, endomorph, and mesomorph How understanding your body type will help you achieve your goals faster How to go against your genetic make up and still get the progress you want no matter what your body type is   If you have any questions you want answered or wanting to talk to me directly, head over to: https://www.trainhardlivestrong.com/ask Check out all our partnerships: https://www.trainhardlivestrong.com/Partnerships Flex Pro Meals: https://www.flexpromeals.com/ : Code/ TrainHard to save 20% OFF Host: https://www.instagram.com/matthew_fitness_trainer/ Athletic Beings Training & Apparel: www.athleticbeings.com / www.athleticbeingstraining.com Podcast Website: www.trainhardlivestrong.com/podcast LiquidIV: Liquidiv.com / Code: TrainHard / Save 25% off your entire purchase FNX Fit: https://fnx.grsm.io/TrainHard / Code:Trainhard / Save 15% off your entire purchase Flex Pro Meals / 20% off your 1st order / Code: TrainHard: https://www.flexpromeals.com/ YouTube Channel: http://www.youtube.com/c/MatthewFitnessTrainer Train with Coach Matt Anywhere: www.EliteHIITPerformance.com

WELCOME to The WELLNESS FOURplay Podcast Episode 25: Genetics and Your Genes We KNOW that Knowledge is the "foreplay" to your Wellness, so we want to make sure you are equipped to be your OWN Super Hero in your wellness journey! Equipping you with the KNOWLEDGE you need to have the HEALTH you so desire! 1. WHAT IS GENETICS?  Genetics is the study of genes and the variation of characteristics that are influenced by genes—including physical and psychological characteristics. All human traits, from one's height to one's fear of heights, are driven by a complex interplay between the expression of inherited genes and feedback from the environment. 2. HOW ARE YOUR GENETICS DETERMINED?  Through GENES you get from your mom and dad. A gene is the basic unit through which genetic information is stored and passed between generations. Physically, a gene is a specific section of one of the long, double-helix-shaped DNA molecules that appear in each cell of the body. The genome is the entirety of the genetic material contained in an individual. Human DNA is estimated to contain between 20,000 and 25,000 genes. The vast majority of each person's genome is identical to that of the next person, but the portion that differs is consequential for how individuals develop. 3. WHAT DO YOUR GENETICS TELL YOU?  In addition to visible traits like weight and eye color, psychological qualities such as personality traits (such as being extroverted and being agreeable), intelligence, risk of mental illness, and many others are to some extent influenced by genetics. Genes do not account for all of the differences between people on these characteristics, but research indicates that they have a substantial impact. Body types: Ectomorph, Mesomorph and Endomorph 4. ARE YOU BOUND BY YOUR GENETICS OR CAN THEY BE INFLUENCED?  To some extent you are bound. Traits you are born with... you can alter them chemically or surgically, but your GENES are the same. There are many ways that you can influence your genes and how they express themselves. - Epigenetics: Epigenetics is the study of how the environment and other factors can change the way that genes are expressed.  Nutrigenomics - Nutrigenomics aims to identify the effects that the nutrients, in your food or natural compounds, have on the function and expression of the genes in your body. Join us for Episode 26 where we will be talking more on Epigenetics and how you can take more control of the effects it is having on your genetics. Building muscle comes down to lifting weights and nutrition. Sometimes it becomes more complicated for people who are ectomorphs and are very skinny because no matter what they eat they cant seem to put on weight. I was always skinny my whole life but when I started eating more and lifting weights I started to see the weight go up. It took a long time and a lot of "failures" but now im weighing 171 lbs. As kids we all have dreams but we soon realize the harsh realities of this world so we give them up and adapt to society's bullshit. Sometimes we limit what we can accomplish because we accept others negative opinions about ourselves but at the end of the day we got to realize that we got everything inside of us and we are the ones who create our reality. If you are an ectomorph keep staying consistent because you will grow just have patience.

Hello Geecasters! Its time for Mays installment! And what an episode it is!! This month we feature the sounds of Midlands DJ Dan Bryant! And of course the sounds of ME!! Kev Gee for the first hour! This month im playing some stuff from the 90s!! I hope you all enjoy it! Please comment and share!! and download!! Dan has been quietly building up his considerable deck skills over many years and with a pretty solid and record collection of various HARDcore sounds!! You want Trancecore? You got it!! You want some Dutch Fucking Gabber? Well here have a slice... You like that? You want some American Industrial Strength shit? Choke on it BEEATCH!! In Geecast style we had a word with Mr Bryant to see what makes him tick (in a not very Tourrettes way) Although that would be cool!! Hello Mr Bryant!! Hows you doing? Thanks for putting forward this Geecast mix! So can you tell us were your love for Hardcore began? were did it all start off for you? Alright Mr Gee, thanks for having me on. I'm well thanks, hope your good also. Crazy times at the moment! I'd say my love of hardcore started with growing up in the 90s surrounded by all the rave sounds, I first bought a prodigy tape (out of space) at the age of 8 from hmv, thought I was the bees knees haha. Can you remember the first rave you went to? were was it and how old were you? My first taster of raving came after everything closed in town on nights out.. Off to the warehouse. Many many moons ago, 18 haha. I guess that started off the bug right?! The gabber bug really started for me when I attended a total bedlam night with a couple friends that were djing.. Some great times around that era. So Djing. Did you always want to get into that side of things? The djing side of things came as a proggresion really, I was quite deck shy to start with. Maaaany hours locked in my deck room with supplies and a piss bucket sorted that though haha. Can you tell us abit about your mix? Why did you pick those tracks? Yeah sure, its a reflection of my preferred style to play and to listen/rave to. I like to play progressive aswel, as I feel this is what I would want if I was on the dancefloor. Do you get to play out anywere (pre covid?) Thankfully I got to play at Rehabs birthday event in feb . played b2b with DJ Dstroy which was an absolute honor. Great set and loved every minute. Can you tell us what equipment you use? (DJing and if so production wise.) The setup I'm using at the moment is quite cheep and cheerful really, ive got a trusty djm 600 mixer and a pair of Gemini mdj 900's.. Does the job for me. Looking forward to replacing my old 1210s asap though. What are you favourite labels and why? I'd say over all my favorite labels are mokum, ruffneck, Rotterdam records, ruffbeats ect. I love those old dutch sounds. Depending on mood or wherever my sets progress I love the harder stuff aswel, industrial strength, bloody fist, strike, beast, Deathchant and such. Who is your favourite producer of all time? My favorite all time producer has to be Lenny Dee. I think Ophidian stands out above the rest for me also but Lenny Dee spans such a massive timeframe with his work and so many great releases! Who is your favourite DJ of all time? My favorite DJ is Bass D but that's a close call with DJ Panic and DJ producer. Producer always impresses me with his cut and scratch style, but unfortunately I prefer his days of playing events like big nasty dragon, tearing the old dutch stuff a new one. Bass D and panic are always a go too for me if I want to listen to a quality early dutch hardcore set. Finally do you have any shout outs?! When you're working with actors and political pundits who NEED to shape dramatically transform their body fast, you learn how to optimize for body type.  Paul Catudal's book "Just Your Type: The Ultimate Guide To Eating And Training For Your Body Type." Is a how-to guide for living your best life with the body you were born with. But Phil is not just a wealth of knowledge for getting your body right, but his story is very inspiring. Phil is a childhood cancer survivor and lost his father to cancer when he was young. What's more, is that his brother also developed cancer which he later beat.  This life experience shaped his life and his purpose.  Now, Phil is a massive resource for hacking training and nutrition for the three body-types: Ectomorph, Mesomorph and Endomorph.  In this episode we cover: •Three body types we’re born into…goes even into our bone structure. •How veganism, keto, paleo, IF, OMAD technically could work for all three, but it’s going to be much much harder if your body type isn’t aligned with it and your goals. •The importance of finding the right dietary approach for you body type and lifestyle without becoming the friend that everyone hates because you’re constantly talking about food. •How doing anything, the right way, for 2-3 weeks should show results, especially when it comes to eating and exercising correctly for your body types. •Spend 2 weeks to count macros to establish a better awareness of what balanced macros looks like •Phil’s prescription for resetting your metabolism BASED on your body type,  24 hour water fast, IF for 1 week then adjust your intake for goals….gain muscle, lose weight…etc. Enjoy!

An Ectomorph is naturally slender with thin limbs. On Today's episode of the fat melting radio fitness podcast, Joe does a solo cast with a Monday motivation segment and a detailed segment on what macros are and how to count them for your body type so you can find the right nutrition/diet plan that fits you!   Show notes/Takeaways Set goals to determine what path to head down, but celebrate the direction you're heading vs. actual progress towards your goal Macro nutrients give you energy and they are protein, carbohydrates and fat. Counting your macros is a way of eating where you eat a set of each type of nutrients based on your body type and goals NOTE, there is NO perfect equation for finding out exactly what to eat and how much. Its each of our responsibilities to try and figure out the best approach that fits our body There are three body types: Ectomorph, Mesomorph & Endomorph. Below is a general breakdown of each body type with approximate guidelines. Ultimately its best to listen to your body and see how you feel. Ectomorphs typically are thin or petite and have a harder time gaining weight. Typically, they have a higher metabolism and should eat a higher carb, lower fat. A good percentage to start would be 55% carbs, 25% protein and 20% fat.  Mesomorphs are more athletically built and have an easier time losing fat/gaining muscle when integrating a clean diet & consistent workout routine. Their profile should be more balanced; 40% carbs, 30% protein, 30% fat. Endomorphs have a harder time losing weight/fat and are naturally softer/less natural muscle. Their profile should be a higher fat & protein, lower carb 25%, 35% protein, 40% fat. You then take the percentages off of your total caloric intake. You can use your BMR from your inbody or the formula below to determine a baseline of how many calories to consume: Working out 0-2 per week: 11 x your ideal bodyweight = total calories per day Working out 3-4 x per week: 12 x your ideal bodyweight = total calories per day Working out 5-6 x per week: 13 x your ideal bodyweight = total calories per day From there, you would break down the amount of calories per macro nutrient  Protein % x Total calories / 4  = total protein grams Carbs % x Total calories / 4  = total protein grams Fat % x Total calories / 9  = total protein grams Lastly, you can divide the total number of grams over the amount of meals you will eat each day or plan ahead for your dinner and or lunch then work backwards through snacks to hit your macros. Remember, this is NOT a perfect equation! You'll have to test it out for yourself but this will give you a solid starting point. If you'd be interested in taking the guess work out and getting a personalized macros profile, email joe@meltworkout.com

With an open mind, Magda will try her hand at whatever feels right - from tech collaborations, fashion and art, to producing high-quality Tequila - creating a truly unique, multifaceted expression of herself. Born in Poland and raised in Detroit, Magda has soaked up the various characteristics of her surroundings, learning to find beauty and potential in the most derelict and depressed of places. As a teenager partying in Detroit, it wasn't long until Magda was fully immersed in the city's underground scene. In 1998, she joined Minus and began touring the world as Richie Hawtin's opening DJ. She honed her skills under the Minus umbrella but since has forged her own path, including almost a decade spent running the popular label Items & Things together with Troy Pierce and Marc Houle. Magda's touring schedule is amongst the most high-profile and demanding around. She's proved herself as a consistent, adventurous and top-quality performer, with a knack for bringing tracks together in unexpected ways. As well as notable accolades such as a BBC 1 Essential Mix and playing at Timewarp's live streamed 20th anniversary, Magda has been behind some stand-out commercial mixes, such as the truly seminal 'She's A Dancing Machine' in 2006, her similarly intricate fabric 49 CD and most recently a two-disc mix compilation for Balance. Though solo Magda releases are relatively rare, there's no doubt her ability extends beyond the booth to the studio. In the fall of 2010, Magda revealed her debut on Minus, 'From The Fallen Page'. It combined her love for Italian horror composition, Detroit techno futurism and straight-forward dancefloor functionality into a quality body of work that still sounds fresh today. She has also remixed the likes of Plastikman and Depeche Mode. Collaboration has become a vital part of Magda's studio work. Most recently, she has worked with T.B. Arthur, releasing a 12” of hard-hitting, modular acid under the name Blotter Trax. The duo are preparing a live PA to be debuted in 2017, as well as a new EP made together with BMG from Ectomorph. Also grounded in the concept of collaboration is her new event series, PERM. It began with a string of successful events in Berlin over 2016, all exploring innovative visual and musical ideas, and soon will branch out to become a record label with the same ethos. Magda continues to explore new creative avenues, each of them executed with the stamp of quality she has come to represent. www.residentadvisor.net/dj/magda www.discogs.com/artist/Magda www.dj.beatport.com/magda www.twitter.com/magda_music

On Fresh is the Word, we like to deliver wisdom through great stories from the minds of bright creatives of pop culture. Through those stories, we like to dissect the journey of our guests and present actionable lessons and advice for our listeners no matter what career or avenue of artistry they pursue. This episode’s guest is Jayden Panesso, frontman of the Queens, New York-based metalcore band Sylar. The band just released their third album, Seasons, on October 5th and are currently on tour with Beartooth and Knocked Loose. During our chat, we talked about touring with Insane Clown Posse and Attila, the mindstate of touring, how playing the songs live goes into the making of the music, progression of the band, the new album, using music to overcome fears, being a family man, their connection to their fans, their metal influences, his hip-hop influences, and how growing up in Queens molded him. Each episode, the guest is asked to suggest someone from their life/career that should be on Fresh is the Word that would have good stories to tell. Panesso chose Caleb Shomo, the lead vocalist of hardcore band Beartooth. Ectomorph (now officially comprised of BMG & Erika) recorded this whole album as is, with only one or two takes in their own studio. There was no editing at all! They wanted to capture the mood of their live performances and Stalker is even more haunting than its name. Ectomorph made one of the most dark, yet lively albums of the year. You would also know that Bryn is incredibly active and is a classic Ectomorph - someone who will easier lose weight than gain it. So, in todays catch up Steve asks how things are going:    - Distracted from body goals due to Wedding Planning and 2 long stag dos! Can’t knock that.    - Has found the training style that is most enjoying for his neurotype - CrossFit and dynamic performance-based workouts    - Still cares about his Physique Goals of putting on another 15lbs+ of lean mass, but now has a bias towards performance improvement too    - The biggest struggle for Bryn is not having the appetite or time to prepare and consume the amount of calories needed to be in a consistent surplus given his job, NEAT and training    - How can we change Bryn’s thinking about Carbs and Fats and his Identity regarding food to move towards his daily calorie goals?   #2 - Should You be Supersetting Your Exercises?    - What is Supper-setting Exercises?    - What are the benefits and main reasons why Super-setting is often programmed in?    - Does it help create bigger and stronger muscled versus doing exercises separately?    - What are the Downsides to be aware of?    - When is it not a good idea to Superset?   If you like this and other AdapNation episodes, please don't forget to subscribe to the channel, as well as leaving a 5 star review and letting friends and family know of this Podcast.

Welcome to our first Cabral HouseCall of the weekend! Here are today's community questions: Jen: Hi Dr. Cabral I've heard you talk a little about body types and wondered how much this affects what each type eats and how they are supposed to exercise. Could you give a brief overview of each of those different body types (Ectomorph, Mesomorph, Endomorph) and how to tell which one I might be as well as the best exercise and foods for each type? Also, How does your blood type affect the way you breakdown food and should eat? Thanks - Jen   Josie: Hi Doc, I bought the parasite and candida cleanse, but decided to be safe and do the h. Pylori treatment first. My questions are: Should I follow the healthy gut guide (for the candida) for the entire cleanse? Also, I'm noticing that I'm having bloating after eating meats (specifically fish and eggs). You mentioned Great Lakes collagen protein powder and I'm wondering if I can use it during these cleanses.   Steph B: Hello Doctor! Thank you so much for EVERYTHING you do! I recently left you a 5 star review on iTunes! I try to listen to your podcasts every day, but if I can't, I save them up and "binge" listen to them! I'm very grateful to you. In April of 2016, my best-friend suffered a severe concussion. She was in the middle of moving to a new home and while cleaning a small crawlspace, her husband came up behind her and startled her. She raised up with much vigor (eek...!) and slammed her head against the top of the crawl space. She has had brain scans and other tests run, and all come up with nothing. They have told her that here is no cure for concussion. Chiropractor visits & acupuncture treatments have helped, but her headaches flare with stress & activity, heat, wine, and even certain sounds. She's miserable most of the time and some days she cannot even get out of bed. She is a married mother of three young children, and not even 40 years-old. She recently confided in me that sometimes she feels like her life is over. My heart was broken. I looked through your prior podcasts, but didn't see anything about concussions. Please doctor, any advice, or suggestions for my friend?   Jodi: Hi Dr Cabral, Thanks for creating such wonderful podcasts. They have been fun, interesting and helpful. My question is about bulging knuckles. In 2013 I noticed the knuckles on both hands on my pointer fingers were enlarged. In 2014 I saw a hand specialist and surgeon to determine what was happening thinking they could remove what I thought was an enlargement of my knuckle bone. I was told I had thumb CMC arthritis (Basel joint arthritis) and there is nothing they could do. I had no pain at the time of my appointment but now over the years I am experiencing some pain when I hold things in my hands for an extended amount of time and my knuckles are getting larger. My hands do tingle and ache occasionally when I'm just sitting. I will be 60 in September, I am a whole foods lean eater, and I exercise 4-5 days a week. In my 20-30's I was a body builder (not to compete) but now I lift light weights to stay fit a couple times a week for my arms. I don't have any pain when I exercise or type at work. I have done your 7 day detox and now I have your daily nutritional shake every morning, and I follow the detox meal protocol for lunch and dinner. Super simple to do. I do have an occasional glass or two of wine on the weekends. My once beautiful hands are getting quite gnarly and the area between my thumb and pointer finger is starting to sink in. All of my other knuckles are normal. Is there anything I can do to stop or reverse this or put it in remission? Should I stop exercising, get a different angled keyboard, take supplements, check with a different Dr for surgery? I hope you can help. Thank you.   Anonymous: Hi Dr. Cabral, I'm going to be starting your 21 Day Detox this weekend to hopefully clear up some acne that I've been experiencing for about 4 months now. I ordered your Food Sensitivity Test, in hopes that I could complete this before starting the cleanse; however, I just learned that the shipping facility is awaiting the next shipment of test kits, so it won't be delivered until the end of next week. I'm deciding to start the cleanse before receiving the kit. Do you have any suggestions for how I should proceed with this testing, after completing the detox? I have some unexplained acne that I'm working to clear up and I don't want to go back to eating any foods that I may be allergic to, and linked to my acne, for the sake of testing just to be back at square one, as it is suggested to eat a variety of foods before taking the test. Thank you so much! Thank you for tuning in and I look forward to answering more of our community questions tomorrow! - - - Show Notes & Resources: http://StephenCabral.com/568 - - - Get Your Question Answered: http://StephenCabral.com/askcabral

In this episode, Rob dives deep into the specifics of how to build a workout plan that will trigger muscle growth. Despite the title of this post, it's truly not a secret, but more of strategy for success that might be overlooked by most. He discussed the difference between a hypertrophy style workout versus a strength building workout. They both have their benefits in helping to build lean muscle mass, but are quite different in their execution. Hypertrophy workouts generally have 3 to 4 sets with an 8 to 12 rep range. Strength workouts usually have anywhere from 4 to 10 sets with a much smaller rep range, between 1 to 5 reps. You'll want to listen to podcast to hear Rob go into more detail about the strategies involved when trying to achieve the goal of building lean muscle. This week Banes and I were inspired to talk about body shape in the depiction of figures in comics, inspired by some famous images from photographer Howard Schatz's 2002 book, Athlete. In it there are photos of many athletes who're at the peak of their sports and yet their bodyshapes are vastly different, subverting the idea of an "ideal" bodyshape or what it means to be a top athlete or even fit. too often bodyshapes in comics follow a very narrow range, not getting much past what we think of as the current popculture ideal. We all know that idealised model shape is a problem and yet we all still perpetuate it, most of the time you can only tell most "realistic" characters apart by their hairstyle or costume, especially in superhero comics. And that invents a second problem: the myth of the "normal" shaped body as opposed to the ideal- there IS no such thing as normal, and even the ideal is always changing throughout the ages. There's even a lot more to body shape than the famous categories: Mesomorph, Ectomorph, and Endomorph, or Skinny, Pear, Athletic, Hourglass and Apple. We also have a beif mention of how stylised characters (Sponge Bob, Calvin and Hobbes etc) are exaggerations of these shapes and differences.   Topics and Show Notes:   Featured comic: Onward  - http://www.theduckwebcomics.com/Onward/ Links: Some of the athlete photos here - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2502477/Can-guess-sport-shape-Olympians-body.html and here - http://www.mymodernmet.com/profiles/blogs/howard-schatz-beverly-ornstein-athlete (The images, taken by photographer Howard Schatz for his 2002 book, Athlete) Bodyshape pics taken from here - http://bonytobombshell.com/the-scientific-reasons-why-some-women-are-naturally-skinny/ Typical DC superheros - http://s3.media.squarespace.com/production/465215/5366925/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/dc.jpg Typical Marvel superheroes - http://media.comicbook.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/Marvel-Comics-Characters-Wallpaper-5120x3200-1024x640-e1388356472329.jpg Special thanks to: Gunwallace, guitar shaped musician - http://www.virtuallycomics.com Banes, mesomorphic muscleman - http://www.theduckwebcomics.com/user/Banes/ kawaiidaigakusei, hourglass shaped featurer - http://www.theduckwebcomics.com/user/kawaiidaigakusei/   The theme song by Gunwallace this week was for: YOUR CHOICE  http://www.theduckwebcomics.com/YOUR_CHOICE/ - by VinoMas

It is amazing really that it has taken the passage of 25 Avenue Red Podcast episodes before we came to present a DJ/Artist from Germany, especially when we consider it's prominence on the underground music map and the colossal amount of quality music the country emits. And here is installment 26 from Cologne-based DJ, producer, label boss and radio show host Andy Vaz. Originally from Düsseldorf where Kraftwerk originated, Andy is the man behind Background Records, a label that since it's incarnation in 1998 became a key conduit of the true Minimal Techno sound with a release catalogue that is steeped in stripped down, dark and undeniably hypnotic techno - often with some more experimental materials in the mix too. Artists such as: Akufen, Sutekh, Jan Jelinek, Todd Sines, Terrence Dixon, Jeff Milligan, Submania, Rhythm Maker, Kit Clayton, Ectomorph, Deadbeat, Baby Ford, Stewart Walker, Donnacha Costello, Geoff White, Smyglyssna, Portable, Frivolous and many others have graced the Background stage. But Andy Vaz was not one to build his career in electronic music in the bounds of a genre-purist, even though Background was in itself a very clinical and defined brand of techno minimalism. Having always had an equal appreciation for house music too, Andy decided to start a second label called A Touch Of Class in 1999 for the housier shades of music that he wanted to purvey, with the first release an absolute classic - Rick Wade's "Deep Threats EP". In march 2007 Andy launched another label called YORE, which is his ongoing label project to focus on the authentic old-skool Detroit & Chicago House sound with original artists such as Chez Damier, Terrence Dixon, Todd Sines, Alton Miller and again Rick Wade featured on this growing platform. Andy is also very versatile as an artist, having released minimal techno works, obscure oddities, straight-up house music, and has released some conceptual works too in the form of his Soundvariation series (recommended!). Andy is actually the man behind the latest YORE record too with his new EP "It's OK" (YRE-031), the lead track from which opens this mix. The release is due soon, but for now you can hear the preview for the whole EP here: https://soundcloud.com/andyvaz/andy-vaz-its-ok-yre-031-12-preview. We decided to invite Andy to the Avenue Red Podcast after hearing him play on his weekly Saturday night House Of Hope radio shows on Motion FM, as we realised what a truly entertaining, varied and colourful selector he is. In this mix Andy has dug through his record collection to pull out a very groovy and uplifting set of NY House, Garage, Chicago Acid and also some nice, deep Disco-tinged House music with a kind of party feel to it. But the set has real depth, showing Andy to be a DJ with a vastness of musical knowledge that, coupled with his proven passion and experience, means he really knows how to "work it" on the decks! Enjoy the mix everyone! "Taking you back like it's '95!" Listener Q&A: I answer the following questions  in the May 13, 2009 free audio episode: From Listener Ron: "I see the value of eating beans, since they're a low-glycemic index carbohydrate and all that, but what about the terrible gas? I'm driving my family nuts since I started eating black bean dip with vegetables, hummus with garbanzo beans and putting beans on my salad." From Listener Kelsey: "I just got the BenGreenfieldFitness CD Set and I've been listening to all the episodes in my car on the way to work. I just finished the episode with Dr. Gittleman, where she talks about the Gut Flush Plan and her Colon Cleansing Kit. I feel like this might actually be the answer to all my bloating and fatigue. But how long does a colon cleanse actually take? If I've been eating crap for 10 years, will I have to take it for the next decade?" Do you have a question?
