Servant Leadership as a Model for Entrepreneurs

Play Episode Listen Later Jan 13, 2019 16:53

Service as a Leadership Model Service as a Leadership Model for Entrepreneurs Have you ever considered using service as a leadership model in your business? As an entrepreneur, you will gain both tangible and intangible benefits when you use service as a leadership model. In this episode of My Biz Dream Team: Opportunity Wednesday Training Series Dexter and I discuss the importance of serving and engaging with your community. 1. Define Your Community You decide how to define your community. Your community can be the customers, clients, and colleagues that you associate with online. Or your community can be the people and organizations in your physical world. Perhaps you are an active participant in both dimensions, online and off. However, you define your community, Dexter and I encourage you to use service as a leadership model. It is important to your growth as an entrepreneur and a citizen of the world to be of service. Using service as a leadership model is also a wonderful way to network and be known in your community. Robert Greenleaf is known as the "grandfather of the modern empowerment movement in business leadership." He is best known for his writings and lectures on servant leadership. I recommend that you read a compilation of his writings, On Becoming a Servant-Leader. 2. Service by Giving Your Time One important aspect of servant leadership is volunteering your time. I understand that you are busy running your business. However, it is important to take a moment to look around and see the problems. Then think about how you can help. As an entrepreneur you have very valuable skills that organizations can use. Your ability to set and accomplish goals, organize tasks, or make a presentation could be invaluable to your community. I am not suggesting that you start a non-profit. I am simply suggesting that you volunteer a few hours a month. I recommend that you find a cause that is dear to your heart and volunteer a few hours of your time. During the holiday session, I had the opportunity, as part of the Woodbridge Rotary Club project, to serve a meal and gift gifts at the local Boys and Girl’s Club. It brought joy to my heart to see the pleasure in the eyes of the children. They enjoyed their taco dinner, gifts, and a visit from Santa. Service as a Leadership Model Service by Giving Your Money Another aspect of servant leadership is giving your money to worthy causes. There are thousands of philanthropic and cause-based organizations who can make a positive impact when your money is combined with that of other like-minded individuals. Although you do not give with the expectation of receiving anything in return. You will often find that when you give with a loving heart that your gift is returned in many tangible and intangible ways. The goodwill that you generate is incalculable. The smile from a student that is helped by your donation can be breathtaking. Also, you become known by your business colleagues as a person of caring and commitment. Those connections with other like-minded people could lead to better relationships and more business opportunities for you. Conclusion Entrepreneurs benefit their communities and themselves when they use service as a leadership model. The benefits to the community and to you are both tangible and intangible. We encourage you to actively engage with your community and commit to a model of service as leadership. How to Quickly Write a Business Book in 10 Weeks How to Quickly Write a Business Book in 10 Weeks Are you ready to learn how to write a business book? You have heard that being a published author is a great way to brand yourself. But you wonder how you could possibly accomplish such a huge task. Dexter and I have written two books and are writing a third. Let us show you the blueprint that we follow. Listen to the discussion on the podcast as we share the first step in the process. If you follow along with this podcast series, your book will be ready for publication in 10 weeks. The first step in this streamlined book writing process is to find a laser-focused topic. Yes, you know a lot about your business. You are the expert. But, you need to decide which aspect of your business will be the topic for your book. For example, if you are in the weight loss business, you could right about "how to lose weight." However, that topic is too broad. A better topic would be "how to lose 10% of your body weight in 30 days." This topic is much narrower and more focused. To help you find a topic you should do some limited research. Do not spend a lot of time on research. Look at bookstores to find out what is selling in your niche. Check out the best-sellers on Amazon. Go to your local library. Find out what your targeted community is interested in learning. What kinds of questions are they asking. Be sure to include your unique position on the topic. Listen to the podcast as we share with you how to get started with writing a business book in 10 weeks! You Need to Inject Energy, Humor, and Personality into Your Presentation

Inject Energy, Humor, and Personality into Your Presentation You Need to Inject Energy, Humor, and Personality into Your Presentation The number one rule of speech making: do not bore your audience. Therefore, you need to inject energy, humor, and personality into your presentation. Unfortunately, it is easy to bore your audience when you are feeling anxious or when you are new to speaking. Sometimes you are concentrating so hard on making sure you do not forget your next point that you wind up sounding like a toy robot running low on batteries. If you want to keep your audience interested and engaged, you must inject energy, personality and humor into your talk. Now you might be thinking that public speaking is not really your biggest strength. Do you think that you cannot possibly get up on stage, remember your presentation, and give it with great energy! But you would be wrong. You can be funny and energetic. You do not need to become a comedian. But you can bring some zest and vigor to your talk. Just think, you might find you even enjoy it. Here are three ways to inject energy, humor, and personality into your presentation. 1. Start with Practice and Preparation. You must know your speech inside and out. Only when you know your speech inside and out can you be more comfortable improvising and making those off-the-cuff remarks and points that can take your audience by surprise. Those off-the-cuff remarks are the moments that will bring the laughs. In addition, a smart way to practice is to record your presentation. When you record your practice session, then you will be able to watch yourself. This is a must do for all great speakers. Watching a recording of yourself helps you to identify problem areas and spots where you could use a bit more sparkle. 2. Improve your mood. Watch funny television shows instead of crime dramas. Visit the local comedy club. Smile more. Get more exercise. Ask a few questions of the audience right from the beginning of your talk. Not only will your overall mood improve, but you will bring that extra energy and happiness to all your presentations. 3. Start off on the right foot. Before your each presentation, do not hole yourself in your hotel room going over your speech one more time. Instead, go for a brief walk or do a few jumping jacks just before you go down to the meeting room.  I also like to interact with the audience before my presentations. I can gauge their interest. I can find out their most pressing concerns. Then when I get on stage I can interject points from my conversations with them into my presentation. It has been my experience that audience members like being referred to. Walking around the room and introducing yourself to the audience members shows your confidence and command of the subject.  It also humanizes you! Are you still not feeling like you can give your presentation that burst of energy that will make it more memorable? Consider joining Toastmasters or another local club focused on presentation. Here is one last point.  The best way to put some personality into your presentation is simply to have one. Remember, do not walk on the stage acting like a business owner. Go out there and be you. No one can tell your story like you can. The audience is there because they want to hear from you, so give them what they want. Let your personality shine! I got wonderful experience learning how to think on my feet as a trial and appellate court litigator. Answering questions from a judge trying to poke holes in your case quickly teaches you the importance of preparation and knowing how to respond to a tough audience. If you do not have the time or the inclination to become a litigator, you can learn how to think on your feet and get comfortable on stage by practicing with an improv group! Conclusion If you are interested in making an impactful speech, then you need to inject energy, humor,

    Content Repurposing for Entrepreneurs

Content Repurposing for Entrepreneurs The Three Insider Secrets to Content Repurposing for Entrepreneurs If you have been in business for more than a few months, then you have content that you can repurpose. Look at the blog posts that you have already written. Also consider the emails that you have sent and your social media posts. The content that you have already created, plus the done-for-you content that you have bought can be repurposed for the benefit of your community. In today's episode of My Biz Dream Team: Opportunity Wednesday Training Series I will share with three of my insider secrets for content repurposing for entrepreneurs. 1. Find and Evaluate Your Available Content This morning I spent about an hour searching for content on the topic of writing a non-fiction book. I had much more than I realized. There were several blog posts, emails, social media posts, and a few videos. I organized it into a folder and will come back to it later. Now it is time for you to do the same thing. Go through your computer files, emails, videos, social media posts, images you have the right to use, and private label rights materials to see what is available. You may find more than you thought. Then evaluate this material against the needs of your ideal client. How can this material help your ideal client deal with the pain she is feeling? How does your ideal client like to receive information? Remember, all your content must be focused on addressing the needs of your ideal client. 2. Change the Format of Your Content Often when I talk to my clients about content repurposing for entrepreneurs, they immediately think about rewriting material. But I stop them and ask them to instead think about using the same content in a different format. For example, you could take a blog post and turn it into a video. Or you could take that blog post and turn it into a e-course that you share with your mailing list. Perhaps you can take an email and turn it into a blog post. That is one of my favorite strategies. Sometimes we send some of our best information to the people on our email lists. We should also consider sharing that information with the audience that reads our blogs. Think about the ways you can systematically begin to change a piece of content into another format that may better meet the needs of your ideal client. For more information on creating your content strategy check out this blog post: Content Strategy-Your Goals and Plans Content Repurposing for Entrepreneurs 3. Use Your Content for Multiple Purposes As I was looking through my pieces of content on writing a non-fiction book this morning, I came across a checklist that I had working on but had not finished. My original idea for the checklist was to send it to my email list. It occurred to me that the checklist could also be used as a blog post, a resource for my affiliates, and perhaps a bonus for one of my paid courses. I need to finish it. Then I can use the checklist for multiple purposes. I call this content repurposing on steroids! Perhaps you are like me and have content that was originally intended for one purpose. But with strategic creativity, you can use the content for multiple purposes. Perhaps a video that you created can be part of a paid course, or a webinar, or a bonus to one of your products. Remember to consider how your ideal client likes to learn. A visual learner may like images and graphics. An auditory learner may like to listen to podcasts and audio files. A kinesthetic learner may like step-by-step guides. A linguistic learner may like to read text. A transcript of a podcast may appeal to them. Check out the engagement for each piece of content that you share. The data will tell you which content speaks best to your ideal client. Conclusion Remember, my three insider secrets to content repurposing for entrepreneurs are to: 1. find and evaluate your available content 2. change the format of the content

3 Steps to a Stress-free Business Launch 3 Steps to a Stress-Free Business Launch Dexter and I had a fun today discussing the 3 steps to a stress-free business launch. It is a topic that we love to discuss with budding entrepreneurs. Therefore, if you are thinking about quitting your 9-5 job and leaving that bad boss behind, listen to this episode of My Biz Dream Team Opportunity Wednesday Training Series before you break out of those of chains.  You will quickly realize that the issues that we discuss in this podcast episode are not about business. Instead, we are talking about life. We are discussing how you need to order your life before and after you make that leap into the world of entrepreneurship. Realize that everyone is not going to be happy with your decision to leave your 9-5 job behind. There will be people who are jealous, because they wish they had the guts to break out from the mundane job they have. There will be others who think that you are a fool for giving up the security of a regular pay check.  They will be looking at you. Perhaps wishing that you fail. That is the reality of life. For more information on planning and launching your new business check out the business guides at the Small Business Administration. Now, you are ready to take a moment to consider the 3 steps to a stress-free business launch! 3 Steps to a Stress-free Business Launch 1. Build-up Your Financial Reserves If you want a stress-free business launch, then make sure you have financial reserves before you resign. You will probably want emergency reserves for your business and your personal life. As you launch your business, you do not want to be worrying about how you are going to pay your bills. You will have enough on your mind without the additional stress of worrying about whether you can afford to pay the mortgage and buy groceries. 2. Gain Family Support The second step for a stress-free business launch is to make sure that your family supports this decision. Dexter and I have known entrepreneurs who did not have spousal support.  It is not a good situation. The lack of support can range from no interest in the endeavor to hostility to the endeavor. Neither situation is good.  Therefore, we recommend that before you resign that you discuss your plans with your family. Let them know of your dream for your business and your life. Hopefully they will buy into your vision and give you the support that you will need. 3. Take Time for Yourself The third step for a stress-free business launch is to take time for yourself to reflect on this new phase of your life. Once you have decided to break out the chains of your 9-5 job and launch your business, be sure to schedule time for yourself. Yes, you are excited about your new business!  But you cannot work all the time. Make sure to schedule time for a walk or a work out. Take a few days off. You do not want to work all day long. We call this concept of creating a meaningful business brand, “personal branding for entrepreneurs” because you are the personal representative for your business. The three key questions to ask and answer are: (1) What does your business do and how do you do it better than anyone else? (2) What images and words do you want your audience to think about when they hear your name? (3) What are the advantages and benefits of doing business with you? Take time to carefully consider these questions. Write down your answers in a notebook. These questions and answers are essential to helping you create a meaningful brand for your business. 2. Unlocking the Door to Personal Branding for Entrepreneurs Unlocking the Door to Personal Branding for Entrepreneurs Wouldn’t you love to learn the secrets to unlocking the door to personal branding for entrepreneurs? Branding seems shrouded in mystery and intrigue. You know that big companies have brands. You see them all the time in ads on television, social media, and magazines. But, what you may not realize is that your small company can be branded also. We will help you learn the secrets to unlocking the door to personal branding for entrepreneurs. This episode of My Biz Dream Team: Opportunity Wednesday Training Series is the first part of a series on “Personal Branding for Entrepreneurs.”  In this episode we answer the follow questions for you: What is Branding? Why is branding important for your business? How to determine your brand? 1. What is branding? You have probably heard that you should brand your business. But, maybe you are not sure about what that means. Some people believe that a logo is all you need to brand a business. While a logo plays a role in your brand, it is not your brand. A logo is merely a visual representation of your brand. Just like a map is not the world, merely a visual representation of the world. So, if your logo is not your brand. What is branding? Branding has been defined as the process of creating a unique name, message and image in the consumer’s mind. The goal of branding is to differentiate yourself from others in the market. You want to use your brand to both attract and retain clients. As you can tell, branding is not a simple task. 2. Why is branding important for your business? Your brand is communicated through every single action your business takes. It is an essential element of your marketing success. For more information on this topic see the following blog posts: The ABC's of Branding 3 Secret Branding Tips for Successful Entrepreneurs 3. How to Determine your Brand Ultimately your brand is a combination of what people think of when they envision your business and the message that you want to convey. Think about the benefits and advantages to using your goods and services. Then ask yourself the following the questions: What do people say about my business? What do I want people to say about my business? Once you can honestly answer these questions, then you can begin to create a solid brand and change your image in the minds of your prospects and clients. 3 Tips for Building a Solid Business Foundation 3 Tips for Building a Solid Business Foundation Have you ever wondered why some business owners seem to have it all together? They are always on-time. The products and services are meticulously presented. Everything is under control! Have they found the secret for building a solid business foundation? In contrast, other business owners can not seem to get out of the door with a matching pair of shoes. They are always harried and frantic. You may be wondering, what makes one so professional and the other one such an amateur. Do you want to know the secret? I bet that you do! Well, the difference between the two is that the professional business owner understands the beauty of systems. Yes, the secret for building a solid business foundation is creating systems for your business. The frantic business owner re-invents the wheel every day. Can you imagine what your life and business would look like if you figured out the best, most efficient way to get things done?  What if you created systems for your business? How would your life and business improve? This episode of My Biz Dream Team: Opportunity Wednesday Training Series is about how you can strategically create systems for your business. Listen in to find out about establishing systems for your business that will help you build a solid foundation for your business 1. Building a Solid Business Foundation with Systems To truly build a solid business foundation you need to determine the systems that you need for your business. To do this, first make a list of every task and function that will be part of your business. Then determine whether the function or task can be Automated, Out-sourced, or Done by you. My advice is not to do tasks or functions that will not benefit from your personal involvement. For example, if you are not a graphic designer, do not create the designs for your business. Out-source the project.  There are several expert graphic designers who will do a better job than you. Only do those things that will build your reputation more quickly. My motto: Do what you do best; Delegate the rest! Click here to read my article: A Powerful Approach for a Practical Business Start-up Get Started Quickly with Email Marketing 2. Automate Your Email List System I found out early in my business that I needed a system to capture and organize the names and email addresses of people interested in what I had to offer. These were people who bought my products or were intrigued by my free offers. It is much easier to have my clients and potential clients to opt-in to an automated email list than trying to keep track by hand. Click here to read my article: How to Get Started Quickly with Email Marketing 3. Automate Your Content Management System I am calling your website, your content management system.  The best option around is WordPress. Your content is easily accessible and manageable. In addition, there are numerous plug-ins made especially for WordPress that can customize your site for you. How to Sound Like a Professional Podcaster How to Sound Like a Professional Podcaster Are you ready to sound like a professional podcaster? Do you want your guest to know that she is dealing with a savvy pro podcaster? If so, then listen to the latest episode of My Biz Dream Team: Opportunity Wednesday Training Series. We continue with “How to Get Started with Podcasting Part 4.” In this episode we discuss the steps to take before you invite your first guest, if you want to sound like a professional podcaster. Remember, your potential guest does not want to deal with an amateur! 1. Produce at Least One Podcast or Podcast Series If you want to sound like a professional podcaster, then you want to produce at least one podcast or podcast series before you invite your first guest. How will they know if you are a good presenter or interviewer if they have never heard you? You will need a website for your podcast. That means you will need to buy a domain name for your program. If you already have a website, where you blog, you can link your podcast to that website. That is what we did. On our website, My Biz Dream Team.com, you will find a link to our podcast on the side bar. You may want to try something similar. 2. Get the Right Equipment If you want to sound like a professional podcaster, then make sure that you get the right equipment. I recommend you get a good noise cancelling USB headset with a microphone. I recommend and use a Plantronics headset that I bought on Amazon. You will also want professional recording software.  Audacity is available for free. Also, think carefully about your podcast hosting platform. We use and recommend Blubrry. We like Blubrry because it: a. easily connects to our WordPress blog; b. provides us great analytics; and c. is not expensive. For more information on choosing podcast hosting platform, click here, 8 Best Sites to Host Your Podcasts. For information on setting up your podcast feed, I recommend this article, How to Start Your Own Podcast: Getting Your Voice Heard Literally. 3. Prepare the Recording Space If you want to sound like a professional podcast, then be sure to prepare your recording space. That means you should make your recording in a room with a closed door. So many people make the mistake of not thinking about where they will make the recording. You want to avoid background noises. Interruptions by crying babies, barking dogs, and ringing phones are not professional. You want to get prepared by having a glass of water nearby, your notes for the program, and a smile on your face. Remember to close the door and to hit the record button! In a recent article, media trainer and publicist, Joanne McCall, also offers several excellent tips on how to sound like a savvy pro podcaster. One great tip, that we followed is, “actively listen to other podcasts to learn what you love and what you hate.” Conclusion/Call to Action In this series on “How to Start a Podcast,” we have emphasized the importance of having great conversations on your podcast. One way to have great conversations is to invite engaging guests. If you want the best guests for your audience, before issuing that invitation make sure that you sound like a professional podcaster. By following a few simple steps before you invite your first guest, you can sound like a professional podcaster. How to Select and Invite Great Podcast Guests How to Select and Invite Great Podcast Guests Are you seriously interested in starting a podcast in 2018? If so, you need to know how to select and invite great podcast guests. Listen to the latest episode of My Biz Dream Team: Opportunity Wednesday Training Series, as we share our strategies for selecting and inviting great podcast guests. We have been podcasting for more than a year, and have learned a few strategies that we want to share with you. Hopefully you can learn from our mistakes. 1.  Conduct Research Before You Invite Guest Sometimes you think a person would be a great guest, because they are well-known, knowledgeable, and would fit with your overall theme and focus of your podcast. You know exactly which podcast series would be a perfect fit for them. However, before inviting them, first find out about a few things.  You want to know:   ·      What are they known for ·      What is their latest project?      ·      Who is their audience? ·       What can you give them, in terms of adding value?   ·      What is going on in their personal and/or professional lives that will make your invitation to them good or bad timing?  The timing of your invitation is critical. 2.   Develop a Relationship with Intended Guest Before you invite an intended guest, build a relationship with her by attending her webinars, going to her events, and following her on social media.  You do not have to stalk them. However, you do need to let them know that you exist and are interested in what they offer. Another excellent way to establish a relationship with an intended guest is to comment on her blog post. Having a relationship with your intended guests makes it much easier to extend an invitation. 3.  Think of Inviting People Outside of Your Niche If you want a podcast that is interesting, entertaining, and informative do not invite the same guests as everyone else in your niche. There are many interesting people who could be an asset to your podcast. If your focus is primarily people who have online business, invite guests who may have an offline perspective. Remember you are the person, who is driving the conversation. You can think of ways to make your guest interesting to your audience. Conclusion/Call to Action Learning how to select and invite great podcast guests is a key strategy for a successful podcast. Follow these three tips: 1.  Conduct research before inviting an intended guest 2.  Develop a relationship with an intended guest 3.  Think about inviting people outside of your niche as podcast guests.   This is Part 3 of “Podcasting for Riches-How to Start a Successful Podcast.” You can find the other parts of the series here: How to Create a Podcast that Attracts Your Ideal Audience How to Create a Podcast that Builds Your Business    At My Biz Dream Team, we can show you how to develop an internet lifestyle business that can help you reach your money goals. How to Create a Podcast that Attracts Your Ideal Audience How to Create a Podcast that Attracts Your Ideal Audience Are you one of the few authors, speakers, coaches, or entrepreneurs who truly wants to create a podcast that attracts your ideal audience? Do you want your podcast to help you build your business and increase your visibility? However, you do not know where to begin. You are worrying about the right microphone and recorder. Rather, than think about the technical aspects of podcasting, you should be thinking about the theme and focus and of your podcast. The previous episode of My Biz Dream Team: Opportunity Wednesday Training Series focused on three steps to start a podcast that grows your business. This episode continues the discussion with how to create a podcast that attracts your ideal audience. Believe me, it is not about your choice of a microphone. Step 1: Build Your Podcast Around Great Conversations !Build Your Podcast around Great Conversations!Click To Tweet One of the best ways to create a podcast that attracts your ideal audience, is to build your program around great conversations. On My Biz Dream Team: Opportunity Wednesday Training Series, Dexter and I have great conversations with each other and our guests. Having a conversation makes the podcast more interesting and engaging for your ideal audience. A great conversation also gives you an opportunity to show more of your personality. Step 2: Find Guests for Your Podcast that Fit Well with Your Theme and Focus Finding the right guest for your audience involves planning. Your guests should fit with the focus and theme of your podcast. Your focus and theme should be summed up in a short phrase or word. Once you have decided on the theme and focus you can easily select guests who can add value to your audience on that focus or theme. For example, on My Biz Dream Team: Opportunity Wednesday Training Series we tend to take a topic and conduct 5-6 episodes on that topic. We have done series, on such topics as Affiliate Marketing, Public Speaking, and Podcasting. We select guests who offer valuable insight on a specific topic that interests our ideal audience. You could do something similar depending on your focus. For example, you could have approximately six episodes on a specific topic. You could present “Leadership Series: Part One”, “Leadership Series: Part Two” and so on, until you reach the end of your six episodes dealing with leadership issues. Step 3: Create a Strong Identity for Your PodcastCreate a Strong Identity for your PodcastClick To Tweet  After you have a focus and theme for your podcast, then think of ways to cement your program in the minds of your ideal audience. If you present your podcasts at regular, repeating intervals, you will find broadcasting at the same time, same day of the week essential for creating recognition and a habit of attending among your listener.  Perhaps, if you decide to broadcast on the same day of week, like we do, you could add the day of the week to the title. My podcast is “My Biz Dream Team: Opportunity Wednesday Training Series.” So, every Wednesday afternoon at 6:30 (Eastern) our fans can catch us live. Ideally, you want the ideal audience thinking, “Oh, it’s Wednesday. That great podcast show is on at 6:30pm!” Why do they remember it? Three reasons: My podcast happens every week at the same time on the same day. It was entertaining, helpful and valuable. I included the day of the week right into the name! Whatever approach you take, make sure that you create a strong identity for your podcast. This insures that your potential audience and guests know exactly what your podcast is about. Conclusion/Call to Action You can create a podcast that attracts your ideal audience by following these three simple steps. How to Create a Podcast that Grows Your Business How to Create a Podcast that Grows Your Business Are you a coach, author, speaker, or entrepreneur who seriously wants to create a podcast that grows your business? However, you do not know where to start. If so, you are in the right place. This episode of My Biz Dream Team: Opportunity Wednesday Training Series is about how to create a podcast that grows your business. 1.    Create a high-quality podcast When you look around, you quickly realize that there are not enough high-quality podcasts out there. But you can create a high-quality podcast that attracts the right audience and grow your business. It is all about how you brand yourself and the guests that you attract. We have been podcasting for the past 18 months and have seen our audience and our business grow significantly. We have learned several lessons that we will be sharing with you over the next few weeks. Think about the purpose of the podcast and the audience you want to attract. What will be your theme and focus? Then decide how you will brand your podcast to stand out from the more than 100,000 podcasts already on the air.  Hosting a podcast provides you a wonderful opportunity to be viewed as an expert. However, you will not be recognized as an expert overnight. If you want to be successful, start with a plan and follow through. 3.    Be willing to put in the work Every week we host a live teleseminar program. Our focus is helping new entrepreneurs get visibility and grow their business. We record the program live and then turn it into a podcast. You can do the same thing. But, before you begin, ask yourself are you willing to put in the work. As best- selling author, Don Yaeger says, “There are no secrets to be being successful at podcasting, you simply need to be willing to the common things uncommonly well.”  We spend 4-5 hours a week, preparing for each 20-minute podcast. It is a commitment to our audience that keeps us going week after week. How to Make a Powerful Presentation How to Make a Powerful Presentation Can you stand in front of an audience and present? I certainly hope so! Because the ability to stand in front of an audience and make a powerful presentation is the best strategy for influencing people, selling products or services of any kind, or to creating lasting behavioral change. If you are afraid of public speaking, then you must learn to overcome that fear. My experience making hundreds of presentations over more than 30 years has also taught me that your ability to communicate well increases your wealth, power, happiness, and influence. If you really want to grow your business and develop your brand, then learn how to make a powerful presentation. It is like networking on steroids! 1. Focus on Your audience When you are dealing with a live audience, realize that your presentation will become a live, dynamic entity. Your audience becomes a part of your presentation. The enthusiasm that the audience brings to you will make or break your presentation. Therefore, because your audience is so important to making a powerful presentation, remember to look at them before you launch into your speech. Smile. Make eye contact with a few individuals. Then ask a few questions that enroll the audience right at the beginning of your presentation. These questions should engage and involve the audience. Show them from the beginning that their concerns and problems are the focus of your presentation. Focusing on your audience and their needs, not on your own nervousness, is the best way to ensure you give a powerful presentation.   Dexter and Pamela Montgomery 2. Create a “Signature Speech” If you are an entrepreneur, coach, or author you should create a “signature speech,” that you deliver for free that is designed as a marketing tool to help you reach your ideal clients. My friend, Felicia Slattery, coined the phrase “signature speech” to describe this type of marketing presentation. In her book, Kill the Elevator Speech, Felicia explains how a giving a signature speech allows you to “build credibility, generate leads, and quickly add cash to your business.” The fabulous thing about giving a signature speech is that you get to give it more than once. You promote it. People love it. You get hired to give it again. Remember, that every time you give your signature speech, it gets better. You feed off the reactions from previous occasions, secure in the knowledge and the certainty that people in your audience are going to love it! Your “signature speech” becomes what you are known for. It brands you. 3. Prepare for Success Arrive early at the venue. Test microphones and any equipment you are going to be using. Use a checklist to make sure you have everything you need before you leave home. Conclusion/Call to Action Are you ready to make a powerful presentation? You can make a powerful presentation by following these three steps: 1. Focus on your audience 2. Create a “signature speech” 3. Showcase Your Professional Expertise Your Breakthrough Challenge: Showcase Your Professional Expertise The ability to showcase your professional expertise is an essential part of being a successful entrepreneur, coach, speaker, or author. Are you ready to face this breakthrough challenge? Are you ready to showcase your expertise in your both your on-line and off-line community? This episode of My Biz Dream Team: Opportunity Wednesday Training Program explores why and how to showcase your professional expertise. 1. What is Your Professional Expertise? Most people think that their professional expertise is what they do. For example, they categorize themselves as a lawyer, a writer, a coach, or a speaker. I say that your professional expertise is better understood, as how you approach your work. So, what is your approach to work? Do you try to do everything yourself? Are you perceived as a Jack-of-All-Trades who offers generic, one-size-fits-all solutions? Or do you approach your work as a specialist? Are you perceived as an expert who has extensive experience in your field and offers customized advice with proven results? You want to be the latter. 2. Benefits to Showcasing Your Professional Expertise There are many benefits to showcasing your professional expertise. For example: (a) Your credibility increases; (b) Your revenue and name recognition increase; (c) You build on years of experience. Yes, it is much better to be known as a specialist. Think of it this way. Michael Jordan was an undisputed genius in basketball. He approached basketball methodically, with focus, excellence, and determination. There is no doubt, if anyone had a basketball question they would be told to, “go ask Michael.” He was the go-to person of his time. Could Michael Jordan answer questions about baseball, golf, or other sports? Possibly. But his passion was for basketball. Basketball is what brought him to life every day, and it is what possessed him to continue to play basketball professionally for 15 years. It earned him 6 NBA Championships, 5 Most Valuable Player Awards, and 10 scoring titles. Are you the MVP in your niche? Do you bring focus, excellence, and determination to your work? Do you approach your work methodically? Aim to be a specialist. Aim to showcase your professional expertise! 3. How to Showcase Your Professional Expertise There are several ways to showcase your expertise in both your on-line and off-line community. The way that you approach these leadership opportunities will allow your prospective clients to understand how you are different and the strengths that you bring to your work. For example; (a) Volunteer to lead a local charitable or non-profit effort (b) Volunteer to speak on a topic of interest (c) Volunteer to write an informative article For more information on showcasing your professional expertise, see the following blog posts: How to be a Recognized Expert; Be Different: Increase Your Perceived Value; What’s Your Brand? Perception is Everything Conclusion/Call to Action Learning to showcase your professional expertise gives you tremendous credibility, impact, and status with your online and off-line community. When you focus on your approach to work, you allow potential clients to see how you are different. You become known as someone who can provide them customized services and proven results. So, be methodical, focused, and determined in your approach. You too can be an MVP! Public Speaking Strategies Part 4

Start Showcasing Your Expertise with Public Speaking How to Start Showcasing Your Expertise with Public Speaking This episode of My Biz Dream Team: Opportunity Wednesday Training Series focuses on how to start showcasing your expertise with public speaking. Nothing says you are an expert like standing in front of the room to address an audience. I recommend that you showcase your expertise online and offline. You can make presentations to local business organizations and you can host your own webinars and podcast series. See, “How to Showcase Your Fabulous and Authentic Voice” for examples of places to share your expertise. As you prepare to start showcasing your expertise with public speaking, you need to focus on the positive outcome of this type of branding and leadership. Be sure to begin with the right mindset. 1. Never be afraid to market yourself! Remember that great leaders are great communicators! So, do not let fear get in the way of marketing yourself! One of my favorite books: “Sales Dogs: You don’t have to be an attack dog to be successful,” by Blair Singer, makes this point. In this seminal book on sales and marketing, Singer offers several mindset boosters for success. My favorite mindset boosters are: (a) Face the challenge You may feel fear and anxiety when facing the challenge of public speaking. However, according to Singer, rather than filling your head with images of failure, you should rely on memories of similar successful experiences from the past. These successful memories of the past offer you powerful assistance to boost your confidence now! Remember that your strength comes from past. Learn how to capture those past successes and use them in the future. (b) Celebrate all Wins To help you create positive memories of past successes, it is important that you celebrate all wins. This is probably the most difficult mindset shift for many adults. As we grow older we often lose the spontaneity and fun that we felt when we were younger. We need to respond to success when anything positive happens. Then we need to imbed that positive emotion in our mind, by congratulating ourselves for being the reason for the success. After all, you earned it. You worked for it. You are smart! Using this powerful technique will cause your energy to soar! This great energy will lead to your next success. Dexter and Pamela Montgomery (2) Share powerful stories As you start showcasing your expertise through public speaking, remember to share stories that lend credibility to your brand. Your stories make you unique and will attract your ideal clients to you. Remember that your personal brand is much more than your logo and the color on your website. Your life experiences, or your story, play into the development of your personal brand. Personal branding is about the image you put out into the world, how others see you. Stories of your past shape how others see you. Stories help the truth come alive! (3) Identify your ideal client Before you start showcasing your expertise with public speaking, identify your ideal client. These are the people your public speaking should attract. Begin to think about their attributes and create a detailed description, including their demographics, struggles, and what their daily life is like. What are they searching for? Show how you have the solution to their problem! Conclusion/Call to Action As you start showcasing your expertise with public speaking, remember: (1) Never be afraid to market yourself (2) Share powerful stories (3) Identify your client By preparing yourself with these powerful strategies you can begin confidently to start showcasing your expertise with public speaking. At My Biz Dream Team, we can show you how to develop an internet lifestyle business that can help you reach your money goals. Check out The Strategic Pathway to Success Program™. Quickly Overcome Your Fear of Public Speaking How to Quickly Overcome Your Fear of Public Speaking You can quickly overcome your fear of public speaking by following a few simple strategies. Do your knees start to knock and your throat start to close thinking about public speaking? Do you imagine forgetting everything you planned to say? You can rid yourself of the overwhelming anxiety in the pit of your stomach. These symptoms of the fear of public speaking can be overcome by following the advice on this episode of My Biz Dream Team: Opportunity Wednesday Training Series. 1. Being Nervous vs Being Afraid I understand your fear of public speaking. My entire professional life as an attorney, seminar presenter, and spokesperson was all about public speaking. As an entrepreneur, I am often asked to make remarks or speak about my business. Each time I stand up to speak, I am nervous. Being nervous is a good thing. It gives me the edge to do my best. I do not want to be complacent about the opportunity to influence and persuade my audience. However, being nervous and being afraid are two different emotions. 2. The Solution To help you overcome the fear of public speaking, I recommend that you what I did. Schedule yourself to speak in public on a regular basis. The more you speak, the less afraid you become. Like swimming, you just need to jump into the water! As you do more public speaking, you become a better public speaker and more confident in your abilities. You will quickly overcome your fear of public speaking after a few months of regular speaking. You realize that you will not forget your prepared remarks. You realize that the audience will not laugh at you. In fact, the audience will support and follow your lead if you provide them valuable information that helps them solve their problems. 3. Implementing the Solution You can quickly overcome your fear of public speaking by making sure that you speak in public at least once a month. When six weeks passed without making a presentation, I felt rusty and more anxious when I returned to the stage. Make sure that does not happen to you. Make public speaking a habit. There is no better way to position yourself as an authority. You can find opportunities to speak online or offline. I highly recommend that you start podcast. For example, you can interview guests or discuss issues of concern to your audience. To receive more in-depth information about the power of podcasting and the power of public speaking see the following blog posts and podcasts.  How You Can Make Podcasting Absolutely Enjoyable How to Quickly Identify Your Ideal Client  How to Attract New Clients Through Speaking and Writing   You may also want to pursue opportunities offline in your local community. Local business associations, libraries, and civic organizations are always looking for speakers. Prepare a speech or presentation on an interesting topic and then schedule yourself to speak. It has been my experience that the best way to quickly overcome the fear of public speaking is to start speaking in public on a regular basis. Perhaps it is time to do something different, if you want better results.  Attracting new clients through speaking and writing can separate you from the masses in your niche. In this episode of My Biz Dream Team: Opportunity Wednesday Training Series we discuss 3 strategies that you can implement today to attract new clients. This episode highlights how you can attract new clients through speaking and writing on platforms that you control. (1)          The Power of the Podcast One of the best ways to position yourself as an authority and attract new clients is to start your own podcast. Your podcast becomes your platform. As Michael Hyatt says in his seminal book, Platform-Get Noticed in a Noisy World, you need a platform (1) to attract an audience in a noisy world; and (2) to build a passionate loyalty with that audience. Your podcast allows you to give value before you receive anything from a potential client. Your podcast is your platform, not for you being the center of attention. Instead it is about sharing something of value and getting that message out to the world in a very powerful way. According to a recent report by Edison Research, podcasts continue to grow. There has been a 75% increase in listeners since 2013. Podcasting is a smart way to connect with potential clients. It creates possibilities to reach new audiences. By speaking on a platform that you control, you can create an atmosphere of trust between you and your potential clients. Building trust is key. Remember that most people will not buy from you, until they know, like, and trust you. For more in-depth information on starting your own impactful podcast look at the following resources: Podcasting Power; How to Easily Start Your Own Awesome Podcast; How to Avoid Making an Amateur Podcasting Mistake; Start Your Speech with a Powerful Hook.   (2)           The Power of the Free Teleseminar/webinar Like podcasts, a webinar/teleseminar provides a powerful link between you and potential clients. The promise of in-depth training will attract those interested in the topic. The free webinar/teleconference provides you with an opportunity to provide great service. This is another powerful way to develop a relationship with your clients. Dexter and I use this strategy to attract new clients during our live weekly teleseminar series. Our live weekly teleseminar series, along with podcasts and our blog help keep our clients as long-term consumers of the products, services, and experiences that we offer. For more in-depth information on the value of using speaking and writing to attract new clients, see: Write, Speak, Broadcast: 3 Strategies for Success in 2017. (3)          The Power of the Blog Starting a blog to consistently provide high quality information that is relevant to your target client is another way to attract new clients. A blog is a fabulous platform to showcase your expertise. Writing in-depth, 500-800 word, blog posts allows you to engage with your clients and offer your expertise in a non-threatening manner to potential clients. WordPress has become standard for establishing blogs. It is easy to set up and use. Here is a link to a recent post on setting up a blog that is a platform that you own and control. Once you blog created, then you must work to create an authority site. By authority site,

Determination and Drive to Succeed The Entrepreneur’s Determination and Drive to Succeed This episode of My Biz Dream Team: Opportunity Wednesday Training Series is “The Entrepreneur’s Determination and Drive to Succeed." Have you ever wondered why some entrepreneurs achieve spectacular success and others fail?  The answer lies in their determination to succeed. Find out why determination is such an important characteristic of a successful entrepreneur. Also, learn how you can quickly cultivate the entrepreneur’s determination and drive to succeed in your business and in your life. Dexter and I have achieved success in several aspects of our lives from careers, businesses, and marriage. In this episode, we discuss three key strategies that we use that you can adopt to quickly achieve determination and drive to succeed. What is Determination? Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines determination as “firmness of purpose; resolve.” As an entrepreneur, your determination is daily tested in each challenge that you face. For example, when a potential client fails to show up for a scheduled meeting or you miss an important deadline, you may want to give up. You begin to wonder why you started the business. It is the strength of your purpose for your business that keeps you from giving up. Your resolve not to fail keeps you going when everyone and everything says that you will fail. What is Your Purpose? Your determination can wither without a big enough reason to continue. Your purpose must go beyond the desire for making money.  Do you remember the vision and desire that fueled your dream for your business? Was it the desire to serve certain clients? Was it a dream of sharing a topic or process with the world? Did you want to leave a legacy of success for family? When your determination starts to falter, you will need to remember your purpose. Your purpose will give you the courage, strength, and resolve to continue. Do You Learn from Your Mistakes? Your determination will wither if you do not learn from your mistakes. A successful entrepreneur does not quit when situations do not go exactly as planned. The determined entrepreneur will figure out what went wrong. Then she will adjust and adapt to the situation. Your ability to think, be flexible, and resilient will serve you over time. You cannot let your mistakes cause you to be psychologically devastated. The determined entrepreneur learns from her mistakes and keeps going. Her success is right around the corner. Do You Focus on Strategic Actions? Your determination will wither if you stay busy working in your business, but see no results. A successful entrepreneur will dig deep within herself and focus on what is most important to achieve success. The determined entrepreneur will figure out the tasks and activities that can be delegated to her team. Then she will act on the specific tasks that are strategic for her success. She will keep moving ahead. The determined entrepreneur understands the importance of taking one little step on a key priority. Then another step and another step to gain momentum. The successful entrepreneur understands the need to cultivate those habits of determination that will serve her well now and in the future. Conclusion/Call to Action The entrepreneur’s determination and drive to succeed makes the difference between success and failure. By following the three strategies discussed in this episode of My Biz Dream Team: Opportunity Wednesday Training Series you can quickly achieve the business success and lifestyle of your dreams. Remember to practice the following strategic habits: Remember Your Purpose Learn from Your Mistakes Focus on Strategic Actions Armed with these strategic habits you can sharpen your inner resolve and quickly achieve the entrepreneur’s determination and drive to succeed.   At My Biz Dream Team, we can show you how to develop an internet lifestyle business that can help you reach your personal and...

Quickly Get Started with Affiliate Marketing How to Quickly Get Started with Affiliate Marketing Have you wondered how to quickly start making money online as you transition from your 9-5 job? You probably do not have any products or services of your own at this early stage of your business. So, what are you to do? One solution to your problem is to promote the goods and services of other companies and earn a commission. This is called affiliate marketing. This episode of My Biz Dream Team: Opportunity Wednesday Training Series is about how to quickly get started with affiliate marketing. (1) What is Affiliate Marketing? First, you will need to understand the concept of affiliate marketing. So, what is affiliate marketing? Affiliate marketing is promoting the products or services of others. Typically, this occurs on your blog where you write useful and informative posts. Within the body of these blog posts you will place links to the products or services that you are discussing. If a reader clicks on a link and makes a purchase, you will earn a commission. As an affiliate marketer, you can also place advertisements for your chosen affiliate companies on their website. Again, if someone clicks on the ad and makes a purchase, you earn a commission. Here are a few of my other blog posts on Affiliate Marketing: (1) Affiliate Niche Sites: Another Way to Profit from Affiliate Marketing; (2) Income: Making Money with Affiliate Marketing; (3) Affiliate Marketing: Building Your Business Dream Team; (4) How to Make Money with Affiliate Marketing; (5) Promoting Products and Services on the Internet (2) How to Make Money as an Affiliate? The best way to succeed as an affiliate marketer is to choose a subject matter that is specific and interesting to you. The topic should also be relevant to your target audience. For example, if you love coffee and know a lot about it, you might choose to create a blog and write on that topic. Choose affiliate products that you believe in and are related to your niche. You have more credibility in promoting a product if you really believe in it. Show how the product or service has benefited you and your business. Write reviews, how-to posts, comparison charts and offer tips for your topic. For example, how to create a perfect cup of coffee. Where relevant, insert links to your affiliate sites. Remember to promote products and services that you know and love that are relevant to your target audience. (3) Where to Find Affiliate Products to Promote? It is important to get to know the people behind the products. After all, they are your business partners. Establish relationships with them. It could lead to other business opportunities. One of my favorite business partners for affiliate marketing is Connie Ragen Green. I have known Connie for many years and have interviewed her on my podcast. I met her in Toronto, where she spoke to a large group of entrepreneurs about earning money on-line. Her presentation fascinated me and I sought her out to find out more about this fascinating area of entrepreneurship. Since that time, I have taken many of Connie’s courses and promote her courses to my clients. She is known as the “Queen of Affiliate Marketing,” having won many prizes for affiliate marketing. If you want to know more about getting started quickly with affiliate marketing, I highly recommend that you take her course, “Really Simple Affiliate Marketing.”  You can also visit the websites for your favorite products or services and look for information about affiliate programs or “partners.” Sign up and start promoting and earning cash. I also promote affiliate products on my 2017 Resource Guide, where you can find my recommendations for products that will help you get started on-line as you make the transition from your 9-5 job. Conclusion/Call to Action You can quickly get started with affiliate marketing by following a few simple steps.

How to Quickly Start an Awesome Blog How to Quickly Start an Awesome Blog It felt overwhelming when my mentor first told me that I needed a blog to establish myself as an online entrepreneur. Do you feel that way? Do you feel overwhelmed by the idea of setting up a blog? Does the thought of writing 2-3 blog articles each week seem daunting? I understand. It felt that way to me at first. However, I have managed to consistently blog for more than a year. Imagine if you had a simple 3-step process that you could implement today to quickly start an awesome blog. Do not let the feeling of overwhelm keep you from pursuing your dream! In this episode of My Biz Dream Team: Opportunity Wednesday Training Series we discuss how you can quickly start a blog. We walk you through how to get your blog up and running in matter of hours. 1. Buy a Domain Name First you will need a name for your blog. Begin, by thinking strategically about your blog and the specific topics that you will address. Find a name that resonates with your intended audience and then purchase that domain name. Make sure that your domain name is a “.com.” Your domain name should not be a “.net” or any of the other variations. Buying a great domain name is the first step to quickly starting an awesome blog. 2. Select a Hosting Service Next, you want to decide on a hosting service for your blog. Some bloggers start out with a free service. I did at first. But I quickly found that to be unacceptable for my long-term growth. So instead I began using Bluehost to host my blog. It is quick and reliable. Try it to see if it works for you. 3. Create Your Blog Most bloggers use WordPress. It has become the industry standard because of its ease of use. There are also several free plugins that you can use to make your WordPress blog even more functional. Listen to this great interview with Adrienne Dupree about some free plugins that you can add to help you quickly start an awesome blog. How to Boost Your Productivity with Powerful Time-saving Strategies How to Boost Your Productivity with Powerful Time-saving Strategies Are you struggling trying to get everything done? At the end of the day are you wondering how you managed to get so little accomplished?  These and other time-management issues have plagued me and countless other entrepreneurs. Imagine learning how to boost your productivity with powerful time saving strategies! Today, Dexter and I will share with you how we manage to run our marketing business, real estate business, volunteer for several civic and charitable organizations, and still have time for our roles as husband, wife, father and mother.  In this episode of My Biz Dream Team: Opportunity Wednesday Training Series, Dexter and I share 6 powerful time-saving strategies that will dramatically boost your productivity. Listen in on our conversation. 1. Make appointments with yourself If a project is important enough to do, it is important enough to add to your calendar. We have developed the powerful habit of putting everything on the calendar. I learned this from my years of practicing law. As a lawyer, you do not want to miss any deadlines. I run my entire life with my calendar.  If it is not on the calendar, it does not exist. This one powerful strategy can greatly boost your productivity. 2. Take a day off Have you ever noticed when you plan a vacation that you get super productive? I know that I do. I want everything finished before I head to the airport. To give me that since of urgency, I schedule a day off to have lunch with friends and be a tourist in my hometown. Because I want to enjoy my day off, I am highly motivated to finish lagging projects. I am working up to scheduling a day off every week. What about you? Are you finding time for yourself? 3. Give yourself permission to say no Sometimes I feel responsible for everything and find it difficult to say no.  Do you have the same problem? I came to the realization that if I try to accommodate everyone else, then I end up stressed and overworked. Instead, I have learned to say no to the new board position. I also learned to say no to doing household chores that are not the best use of my time.  Boost your productivity by making time for what is really important and give yourself permission to say no to everything else. 4. Take a break Sometimes it helps to take a quick break to boost your productivity. Have you ever sat at your desk not accomplishing one thing? Then, it is time to take a break.  A few minutes reading a delightful book has a wonderful way of recharging your batteries and will boost your productivity when you return to work. 5. Give up control For “Type A” personalities like me, I feel that I must have control over most situations. I had to learn that others could handle the situation. They might do it differently than I would have. But their job was good enough. You may need to learn, like I did, that it is okay to let go. Learn to give up some control and let others help. Your productivity increases as you learn to delegate to members of your team. 6. Practice focusing Earlier this month, I wrote about focusing on a specific niche to grow your profits. Today, I am writing about focusing on one project at time. Multi-tasking is a huge waste of time. What should take 30-minutes could stretch into an afternoon of accomplishing nothing as you work on three different projects.  You will be amazed at how much you can boost your productivity you are once you begin to focus. Conclusion/Call to Action How are you spending your time? Are you accomplishing your goals? Learning how to boost your productivity with powerful time-saving strategies can help you reach goals must sooner.  Remember to: Make an appointment with yourself Take a day off Give yourself permission to say no Take a break Give up control Practice focusing Following these six,

How to Boost Profits when You Limit Your Focus How to Boost Profits When You Limit Your Focus In this episode of My Biz Dream Team: Opportunity Wednesday Training Series, Dexter and I discuss how to boost profits when you limit your focus. It may sound counter-intuitive. But it works! Using examples from our experiences, and other business niches, we demonstrate that limiting the scope and focus of your business helps to boost your profits. Is Your Business a Specialty Shop or a Variety Store? Imagine walking through the mall. You come across two stores. One sells a variety of toys, groceries, clothes, magazines, and toiletries. The other store sells only chocolates. It specializes in selling only the finest Belgium and Swiss chocolate candies. You will not find chocolate cake or chocolate ice cream. You may be thinking that the owner of the store with the wide variety of items is the smart business owner. In your way of thinking, the variety store attracts more customers because of the wide range of products. They may have more customers. But are the customers loyal. If one of those customers heard about a cheaper price for one of your items, they would go across town to buy it. The owner of the specialty chocolate store can charge a premium for her products. There is a greater perceived value because of the specialization. This product is not for everyone. Is your business offering a variety of products with no consistent theme? Or are you specializing in a few types of offerings? Are you positioning yourself as a leader in your niche? Do you offer premium products and services? What do your products and services say about your brand? You can boost your profits when you limit your focus, because your clients will:  1)   Be far more loyal, 2)    Spend more money per visit, and 3)    Rave to her friends about the valuable products and services that you offer. Conclusion/Call to Action You can boost profits when you limit your focus. That should be your goal. Develop brand loyalty for your exclusive, specialty products and services. Find a Great Mentor Absolutely the Best Way to Find a Great Mentor Finding a great mentor is one of the most important tasks of an entrepreneur. A mentor is a key member of your business team. Despite the importance of this task, many entrepreneurs do not know how to find a great mentor. They often approach this important task with the wrong mindset and wrong strategy. In this episode of My Biz Dream Team: Opportunity Wednesday Training Series we discuss absolutely the best way to find a great mentor. As I write this blog post, Richard Bolles, the author of the classic “What Color is Your Parachute? A Practical Manual for Job Hunters and Career Changers” has just died. His handy guide has provided inspiration for millions of job hunters and career changers for almost 50 years. I recall the first time I read the book when I was in college. The dream of becoming an attorney seemed so far away. However, I followed Bolles’ advice, an arranged an informational interview with an attorney in my hometown of Savannah, Georgia. I told him that I wanted to talk to him about law school and being a lawyer. He agreed to meet with me while I was home from college on winter break. That initial information interview reinforced my desire to become an attorney. This attorney was the first in a long-line of mentors who have helped me guide my career. In turn, I have mentored several people as throughout their careers. Sometimes the mentoring relationship lasts a few years or only a few months. It always depends on the fit between me and the person seeking mentoring. In my experience, the mentoring relationships that work best, are those based on mutual respect and assistance. You first build a relationship, then you ask for help. Do not expect a stranger to be your mentor! Be sure that you can offer something of value in return. Do not expect a stranger to be your mentor.Click To Tweet As an entrepreneur, you want to find a mentor who is already successful at what you want to do. You want to find someone who can teach you the ropes and help you avoid the traps for the unwary! How to Find Your Inspiration: What is Your Why?

How to Find Your Inspiration: What is Your Why? How to Find Your Inspiration: What is Your Why? To find your inspiration is the first step in achieving the goals that excite you. Only when you know your why will you find the courage and inspiration to start or to grow your business. Having the proper mindset is the key for the determination you will need to succeed. The German philosopher Frederick Nietzsche once said, “He who knows his why can endure any how.” When you find your inspiration and know your why you will be able: (1) find the courage to take the risks needed to succeed; (2) stay motivated when you face setbacks; and (3) move your life into an entirely new, more challenging and rewarding direction. When you first decided to start your business, you may have been thinking: ·       “I am tired of working in this terrible job.” ·       “I need to spend more time with my family.” ·       “This job just does not pay enough.” These thoughts and others go through the mind of many people thinking about starting a business. But you will find, that these reasons will not be enough to sustain your motivation once you start your business. These primarily negative thoughts will not inspire you:  ·       To increase your skills; ·       To be brave and authentic in your marketing; ·       To find the courage to launch a new product or service; ·       To make your business thrive. What is your why? What inspires and motivates you? Is it Your Passion? Many business owners are motivated by passion for a topic, a market, or a product. How to Reach Your Money Goals with Multiple Streams of Income How to Reach Your Money Goals with Multiple Streams of Income The first quarter of 2017 is almost over. Are you on track to reach your money goals for 2017? Or are you struggling to make your business profitable? Perhaps it is time to approach your money goals with a different mindset and action plan. This episode of My Biz Dream Team: Opportunity Wednesday Training Series addresses how you can reach your money goals with multiple streams of income.   Develop S.M.A.R.T. Goals You should begin this process by setting goals that are S.M.A.R.T. Make sure that your goals are: S: Specific M: Measurable A: Attainable R: Realistic T: Time-bound Meaningful goals are essential requirements of business success. With goals, you have (1) a target to aim for; (2) a purpose for being; (3) and a direction to travel. Without goals, you can wander aimlessly and get sidetracked by any new thing that comes along. Make a Habit Of Tracking Your Income and Spending Developing good money habits is essential for your success. Otherwise your money habits could sabotage your business success. One very good money habit to start, if you have not already done so, is tracking your income and spending. This means tracking all business and personal expenses. Develop Multiple Streams of Income One way to meet your money goals is to develop multiple streams of income. If you are still working, you can start a business on a part-time basis. It is great to have a Plan B. Your job may end unexpectedly. For example, your employer could decide to downsize or re-organize. Or your union may decide to go on strike. Whatever they call it, you are out of your job. If you have already started your internet-based lifestyle business, you can begin to add multiple streams of income. You want to start with 1 or 2 models and then add more later. For example, consider the following: Affiliate Marketing Writing books Teaching Classes On-line Selling Information Products Mentoring Selling Products on Amazon   Conclusion You can reach your money goals by following a few time-proven steps. First, set S.M.A.R.T. goals. Second, begin to make a habit of tracking your income and expenses. Third, develop multiple streams of income. At My Biz Dream Team, we can show you how to develop an internet lifestyle business that can help you reach your money goals. Check out The Strategic Pathway to Success Program™. Changing Your Money Mindset

Is Your Money Mindset Keeping You Broke? Is Your Money Mindset Keeping You Broke Your money mindset is often the difference between prosperity and hardship. Do you realize that the stories that you tell yourself about money could be holding you back from the success that you desire?  This episode of My Biz Dream Team: Opportunity Wednesday Training Series looks at how your money mindset may be standing in the way of your prosperity and keeping you broke. What is Your Money Story? In this episode, we discuss two typical money stories that may be stopping your prosperity.  One money story is the “Doomed” story. In this story, you are cursed never to have any money because your entire family is cursed with bad luck when it comes to money. You are “the victim” of someone’s bad luck or bad deeds. Does this sound familiar? The next money story that may be standing in the way of your prosperity is the “Evil Money” story. In this story, you tell yourself that having money is bad. You do not deserve the good things of life. You tell yourself repeatedly that money is evil. Does this sound familiar? If you take a close look at that often misquoted verse (1Timothy 6:10) it says: “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil.”  In context, the quote is about those who are tempted by riches and make foolish decisions that lead to their ruin. Unfortunately, some people may become so afraid of materialism, they often go the other way. They often create money stories that do not allow them to provide for their families’ basic needs. Katherine Keller, in her insightful article in Entrepreneur magazine “5 Beliefs that Keep You Broke,” highlights how those beliefs may be keeping you from using your energy “towards creativity, peace, joy, happiness, the ability to solve problems, or to feel that [you] have control over [y]our [life].” Create a Money Mindset that Brings You Prosperity!Click To Tweet The Truth About Money Do you know the truth about money? Money is a tool. It is a tool that you can use to create the freedom to give. Money is a tool to give you freedom to help others when help is most needed. Instead of giving out of guilt, it is much more effective to give out of a feeling of empowerment. It is more effective to renew the well, so that the more you give, the more you receive. That is what creating a strong, positive financial story allows you to do. Once you understand that money is a tool that you can use to shape your world, then you can begin to remove the blocks to your prosperity. Changing Your Money Mindset It does not matter which type of negative money mindset that you have. If it leaves you feeling financially fearful and disempowered, it is a money story you need to change. Your money mindset will shape how you view your business and the decisions that you will make. Will you decide out of fear or out of power? Listen to the podcast as we discuss the seven symptoms that show that you are prosperity blocked and doomed to stay broke if you do not change!   I am Pamela Montgomery, attorney, author, entrepreneur, and speaker who helps you create the life of your dreams as you achieve uncommon results in your business and in your life!

Showcase Your Fabulous and Authentic Voice How to Showcase Your Fabulous and Authentic Voice This week’s episode of My Biz Dream Team: Opportunity Wednesday Training Series is all about how to showcase your fabulous and authentic voice. In this episode, we discuss the importance of sharing your expertise in a manner that builds trust and loyalty. As you share your expertise, you build your authority status and become a trusted advisor. Henry David Thoreau wrote, “Most men lead lives of quiet desperation and go to the grave with the song still in them.” The “song” is not music. Instead, it is your unexpressed authentic self, waiting to come out. Perhaps it is fear of rejection or fear of success that keeps you from sharing with the world your wisdom and expertise. Or it could be a lack of confidence. Whatever is holding you back, can emerge as you become an entrepreneur. In a Huffington Post article, Dennis Merritt Jones wrote,  “Finding your authentic voice is for naught unless you are willing to use it.” Once you begin to use your authentic voice, magic starts to occur in your life. Are you ready to use and showcase your fabulous authentic voice? In this episode, we discuss 5 steps that showcase your fabulous and authentic voice. They are: 1. Write Blog Posts One of the best ways to showcase your voice is to write blog posts that present top quality information using your unique perspective. 2. Publish a Book Publishing a book is a fantastic way to establish your authority status and share your voice. Nothing opens more doors for other opportunities like a book. 3. Hold Live Events Holding live events such as webinars or teleseminars that provide value-laden information to people who want to learn from you is a great way to connect with your audience. 4. Produce a Podcast An audio podcast allows you to express yourself orally. You may find it easier to express your ideas orally than in writing. To find out how you can produce your own impactful podcast series, check out our Special Report and Training Guide: The Podcasting Power Playbook.  Be sure to subscribe to our podcast series: My Biz Dream Team: Opportunity Wednesday Training Series where we share powerful strategies to help you build a business of significance and achieve uncommon results. 5. Create Information Products Another great way to connect with your audience is to create information products that allow your audience to learn more in-depth information from you. You may want to create an information product online that uses a membership site to deliver written, video, or audio content. Conclusion/Call to Action There are many ways to showcase your fabulous authentic voice as you allow it to emerge. You can use your voice to impact the world as you (1) write blog posts; (2) publish a book; (3) hold live events; (4) produce a podcast; and (5) create an information product.  These opportunities and others help you become a recognized authority and showcase your authentic voice.   Pamela Montgomery I am Pamela Montgomery, attorney, author, entrepreneur, and speaker who helps you create the life of your dreams as you achieve uncommon results in your business and in your life!

A Powerful Approach for A Practical Business Start-up A Powerful Approach for a Practical Business Start-up A powerful approach for a practical business start-up begins with brainstorming a few crucial questions that will launch your business on a solid foundation with a sound business plan.  This episode of My Biz Dream Team:  Opportunity Wednesday Training Series, discusses this powerful approach for a practical business start-up. Begin brainstorming by asking yourself these key questions:   Are you building quality into your business set-up? Sometimes it is easy as a new entrepreneur to justify using free products and services because, “I am just beginning.” But it is a trap for the unwary. You may very well find yourself caught in a mess of disorganization and chaos because you choose the cheapest option available. If you want a business that will survive and grow, begin by building quality into the DNA of the business. Make sure that you have a presence on the internet that you own and control. Yes, that means buying a domain name and paying for hosting. They money that you spend up front will be well worth it over time. If you want a business that will survive and grow, begin by building quality into the DNA of the business. #entrepreneurshipClick To Tweet How will you attract your ideal client? As you brainstorm about the business that you will launch, carefully consider: (1) who is your ideal client and (2) how will you attract your ideal client.  Are your clients located in your local community, globally, online or off-line? It is necessary to go beyond demographics and to think about the psychographics of the clients you want to buy your goods and services. What kinds of problems do they have? How can you help them solve those problems? When pondering these questions, think about what your ideal client is looking for help with. Then consider how you can teach her or do a task for her. You need to also consider the kind of learner she is. Is she a kinesthetic, visual, or oral learner? You may need a mix of learning modalities to reach your ideal client.   What is the perfect business model for you? After considering your entrepreneurial personality type, think about the type of business model that works best for you. Do you want to deal one-on-one with clients on a daily business?  Do you prefer to work with clients in a group setting?  Will you provide clients with products and services that they can use without your direct involvement? If you plan to be a coach or consultant of any kind, you may want to consider a combination of (1) one-on-one consulting; (2) special VIP events; and (3) information products that produce passive income.  You may find that too much of one type of product or services may overtax your abilities to provide high-quality.   Conclusion/Call to Action This article has presented you with a powerful approach for a practical business start-up that will result in you launching your business on a solid foundation with a sound business plan. The Latest Guide for a Practical Business Start-up   The Latest Guide for a Practical Business Start-up The latest guide for a practical business start-up gives you 5 crucial steps to follow to get your online business running. You can assure yourself of a solid business foundation by following the latest guide for a practical business start-up. You are not required to do anything that we recommend.  It is up to you to decide how you want to run your business. However, years of experience has proven to us that it is better to put certain fundamental business structures in place to protect you, your family, and your future.  Be sure to consult with a trusted advisor and an attorney as you move forward. In this episode of My Biz Dream Team: Opportunity Wednesday Training Series we share with you our systematic approach to starting up your on-line business so that you can leave your 9-5 job and start living your entrepreneur dream life. 1. Prepare a Business Plan Last week we discussed doing research to discover if your business idea is viable and compatible with your business personality. We hope that you took the opportunity to take the entrepreneur assessment test in Harvard Business Review: Assessment: Identify your Entrepreneurial Personality Type This week we want you to continue researching your business idea. Then write a business plan. The data and research that you have gathered should be enough to start making projections for your business. Do not be intimidated by a business plan. It is not cast in stone. It does provide you a guide to follow during those crucial early days after start-up. For help in developing a business plan consult with your local economic development authority or the federal small business development centers that are sponsored by the Small Business Administration. 2. Create a Legal Entity for Your Business Creating a legal entity for your business is an important step in building a solid business foundation. As you decide on the type of legal entity to create for your business think about your business goals and exit strategy. These considerations will help you decide what type of entity is most suitable for your situation. You should familiarize yourself with the (1) different types of company structures and (2) laws and regulations regarding them. Then choose the best one for your circumstances. Consultation with a business attorney who specializes in this area is always a great idea. You may decide that a sole proprietorship will work for you. A single owner business is the simplest type of business formation. Just be sure to make an analysis of your risk factors. You may also want to consider forming a limited liability company or LLC. Over the past 25 years LLCs have been used very broadly and in many different types of circumstances. The state statutes on limited liability companies offer business owners great flexibility. An LLC shares characteristics of a corporation (limited liability) and a sole proprietorship or partnership (pass through taxation). You need to decide whether you want to go through with the formalities of forming a LLC. If you decide to form a LLC, pay close attention to the provisions of the operating agreement, if you decide to have one. If your operating agreement does not specify what happens in certain situations, you may be subject to the default provisions of the relevant state statute.  Also, be sure to ask your attorney about the benefits of a “charging order” as it relates to attacks of creditors on your LLC. 3. Get an Employer Identification Number (EIN) for Your Business After you have formed your legal entity, then you can get an employer identification number (EIN) from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) for tax administration. You can apply online for your EIN. This is a free service.  Be sure that you have all the information needed to complete the form when you begin the online application.

What Happens When You Leave Your 9-5 Job What Happens When You Leave Your 9-5 Job: The Best Steps for a Solid Foundation What happens when you leave your 9-5 job? It can be scary and overwhelming to think about leaving your job. But with the right mindset and a smart plan, it does not have to be. In this podcast and article, we give you a 3- step process that will help you build a solid business foundation. Following this process will give you a better idea of what happens when you leave your 9-5 job. Step 1: Does Your Business Idea Excite You? Does your business idea excite you? Is it something that you will eagerly jump out of the bed and commit to doing for the next year? Your business idea does not have to be a grand passion. But you do need to have a feeling of anticipation and a thrill for trying this new challenge. If your business idea does not excite you, go back to the drawing board!   Step 2: Does Your Personality Mesh with Your Business Idea?  Being an entrepreneur is more than being someone who is an expert in a skill or topic. You must be someone who does several things to significantly impact your client. For example, will you: ·     Transform and clarify your clients’ understanding of something they are currently doing ·     Help clients’ see the “why” behind the “how” ·     Share your clients’ excitement over their success. Whatever you decide to offer your clients must be aligned with your core beliefs and personal values. Does your business idea allow you to be authentic? You must believe that your solution to your clients’ problems will make the world a better place. Because you are the perfect person to supply the solution to their problems! To help you understand your entrepreneurial personality, take this quick assessment from Harvard Business Review: "Assessment: Identify Your Entrepreneurial Personality Type."   Step 3: Is this the Right time to Launch Your Business? Timing is always a tricky question. You wonder whether you should you quit your 9-5 job now or ease into your business gradually.  Dexter and I started our business while working full-time. That worked for us. You should make an individualized assessment of your situation.  Then you can decide whether to quit now or to ease into your business gradually. Here are a few issues to consider: ·     Is there a paying market for your business idea?  If you and your brother are the only two people interested in this idea, you may want to find something else. ·     Do you have adequate start-up capital? You do not need a million dollars in your bank account. Countless numbers of entrepreneurs have started a business on a shoestring out of their garage or dorm room. It does help to have some savings and budget that you plan to follow. ·     Is your niche narrow enough?  Remember you want some competition, but not too much. If “weight loss” is your niche, it is probably too big. But if you target “vegans” that specific small segment you probably can serve. ·     Is your business idea one that is sustainable and scalable? For example, once you teach them how to solve one small problem, are there issues that you can teach them? Is there a next step? Can you create multiple products and services? ·     Have you done your research? Make sure to check on Amazon for any books on your specific topic. Look in grocery stores to see if there are magazines on the subject. What are the leaders in your niche doing to serve their clients? ·     Do you have any clients lined up? It would be fabulous if you had a waiting list for your products or services. ·     Have you tested your idea? Perhaps you want to share your new products or services with special group of “beta” testers. Perhaps for a reduced fee, they can give you feedback. ·     Do you already have credentials or experience that instantly qualifies you as an expert? Are you already doing it or teaching it already?

Dexter and Pamela Montgomery How to Brainstorm Your Non-Fiction Book How to brainstorm your non-fiction book is the topic of this episode of My Biz Dream Team: Opportunity Wednesday Training Series. Writing a non-fiction book can feel unmanageable. You may feel overwhelmed and frustrated by the process. We have separated the process into 10-steps that will help you deal with those feelings. Before you sit down to write your book, be sure to plan. Many of our recent posts and podcasts have been about the preparation you make before you start writing.  This is the last in a 4-part series on how to brainstorm your non-fiction book. Recap of Previous Episodes: Strategies for Writing Your Non-fiction Book First, here is the recap of the previous episodes. Step 1: What is the goal for your book? This is the first step that many first-time authors skip. However, it is probably the single most important decision that you need to make. Step 2: What will your book be about? You must refine your message. Who is your ideal client? Why does he need your book? What unique insight can you provide? Step 3: How will you incorporate your story into your book? Remember that you have an important message that only you can share. It is your job to uncover and share your unique story.  Step 4: Conduct research You want to do research on the top 10 books in your niche. This is not to copy them, but to get a sense of what is selling. What types of books does your audience buy? How can you address their problem from a different point of view? What is your unique position on the issues and problems of your audience?  Step 5: Outline and Organize your Content. Remember that your outline keeps you focused. Your outline tells you what to put in the book. It also tells you what to leave out.  Step 6: Set Goals, Deadlines Give yourself a deadline and then announce it! Do not let yourself off the hook!     Dexter and Pamela Montgomery Summary of Episode 3: How to Brainstorm Your Non-fiction Book Now to the last four steps in how to brainstorm your non-fiction book. For example, you can plan to keep family and friends away while you are writing by turning off the phone and closing the door to your office.   Step 8: Choose a publishing platform for your book. Unless your goal is to publish a New York times, bestseller, then a combination of Kindle and Create space (Amazon’s print on demand company) is probably the right choice for you. This option allows you to get your book out quickly.  Step 9: Choose the design for the book cover. Your cover must (1) grab a reader’s attention the instant they see it, (2) pique the interest of a casual browser, and (3) quickly explain what your book is about.  Also, make sure that the cover is consistent with the overall branding of your business. To find out more about branding read this article.  Step 10: Planning the launch of your book You want to start immediately to create buzz about your book. You can do it in a variety of ways. For example, •       Being a guest on podcasts or blogs in your niche •       Getting interviewed in newspapers or magazines •       Paid advertisements on social media Remember that your book launch will have two distinct goals: 1.     Pre-release—to let everyone know about your upcoming book and to get them excited about it. 2.     Post-release—to make sales Conclusion/Call to Action This 4-part series on how to brainstorm your non-fiction book is a key part of our efforts to help you solve the problem of not attracting your ideal clients.  Your solution to this problem is to follow these 10 steps. Brainstorming Your Book Brainstorming Your Book: 6 Steps Not to Skip Brainstorming your book continues today. Our recent posts and podcasts have emphasized the importance of writing a book. This episode of My Biz Dream Team: Opportunity Wednesday Training Series continues this training on how to brainstorm your book. In the previous episode, we discussed the first 3 steps in the book brainstorming process. ·     What is the goal for your book? This is the first step that many first-time authors skip. However, it is probably the single most important decision that you need to make. ·     What will your book be about? You must refine your message. Who is your ideal client? Why does he need your book? What unique insight can you provide? ·     How will you incorporate your story into your book? Remember that you have an important message that only you can share. It is your job to uncover and share your unique story.  In this episode, we discuss the next 3 steps in brainstorming your book. Begin Your Research You must discover what kind of book will appeal to your ideal client. You must get a good understanding of what they are already reading. You will also need to find out WHY they are reading the top-selling books in your niche. Try to read the top 10 best-selling books in your niche. As you read and review, think about how your book will offer different angles that have not been covered before. Also, try to determine what is missing from the other books. Start an Outline to Help You Organize Your Content To successfully finish your book, you need a good idea of what you will be writing about. An outline will help keep you focused. An outline will also help you limit the scope of the book. Remember, if you did not include the topic in your outline, exclude it from the book. Set Goals and Deadlines Whether you are writing a 20-page mini-book or a 350-page opus, you must follow a writing schedule. Take a tip from us, you want to create an unbreakable goal-driven schedule. Set daily writing goals. For example, if you plan to write a 30,000-word book in a month, plan on writing 1000 words a day. That could take 1-4 hours, depending on how fast you write.  If you decide to speak your book aloud into a recorder, to save time, then be sure to schedule time for that. Be sure to decide on the days of the week and the number of hours that you will devote to writing. It is a professionally printed, substantial publication that practically exudes confidence. Which coach do you think shows more authority in her field? The one with the book, of course. There really is nothing better when it comes to establishing your authority in any niche than having a book with your name on it. Dexter and Pamela Montgomery Expertise So why does a book speak so highly of you and establish your authority so well? Because it gives you a platform to show off your expertise. It is like being invited to present on any topic you choose on the world’s largest stage. Not only that, but your readers are a captive audience. They are listening—in that moment—only to you. That is a powerful position to be in, and one that gives you an opportunity to really show off your stuff. Market Reach No matter how many readers Google sends your way, no matter how much traffic your YouTube channel receives, nothing will ever compare to the number of potential readers Amazon and other online booksellers can bring your way. Positioned correctly, your book can reach millions of new readers, and thousands of potential clients. Combine that with the expertise and authority we know comes with being a published author, and that is a recipe for success that cannot be beat. Better Than a Business Card If you have ever been to a conference, you’ve no doubt collected a stack of business cards. You get home and toss them in a drawer, and six months later you throw them out, without ever having contacted the people who gave them to you. But if one of those people handed you a book instead, what happened? You have likely read it (or at least leafed through it). You almost certainly did not throw it away. And you remember it—and the person who wrote it. Press Opportunities Turn on your television to any interview show, browse through Forbes, or listen to any popular podcast, and you will quickly see that most of the guest speakers and interviewees have w...

Yes, it can be hectic and frantic launching a new business or a new product. Yes, you must have determination and persistence. But, to be productive over time, you must also learn the importance of finding time for yourself. You need to make time to renew, refresh and relax.  This episode of My Biz Dream Team: Opportunity Wednesday Training Series is all about this important topic.  We discuss why it is important to find time to: Renew Refresh Relax We recorded this podcast live from our retreat aboard the lovely Celebrity Silhouette as we docked in Cozumel, Mexico. 1. A Time to Renew During this podcast we discuss the importance of taking time away from your business. It is important to get new ideas, think of new products and services to offer your clients. You also need time away from the business to think of new ways to operate your business. You may discover new ways to offer an outstanding customer experience. As we have repeatedly emphasized on this podcast and on our blog your online business must be customer-focused.   2. A Time to Refresh When you take time to refresh yourself, you can a new perspective. As an entrepreneur, you may be too involved in the day to day operations of your business. You may spend too much time working in your business, rather than on your business. You may develop a tunnel vision. Taking time away to refresh yourself may give you a broader perspective on your business, your life, and your future.   3. A Time to Relax Although you have or want to have an online business, you do not need to stay online all of the time. Sometimes you need to unplug from the technology. Take a few deep breathes and remember why you wanted an online business. What are your hopes and dreams? What are you trying to accomplish for your family?  Why did you want out of the rat race? We know that we did not want to leave on job to create another one.  We wanted a different lifestyle! Part of that lifestyle is taking time to relax.  We enjoy traveling, meeting new people, and gaining new experiences. Negative People: How to Protect Yourself from Them Negative People: Stay Away From Them Negative people seem to be everywhere. They are always around to criticize you. The negative people are always ready to tell you that your dream is not possible. This episode of My Biz Dream Team: Opportunity Wednesday Training Series is all about dealing with the negative people in your life. We address how to handle their negative comments and lack of support. We also explore strategies to help you feel and think positively. Keep Positive People Close to You If a negative person has made a nasty comment to you, shake it off. Then you need to call on a close friend. If that negative comment directly affects your mood, you could easily turn sour and bitter. Pretty soon your entire day has spiraled out of control. Rather than sulk and replay the negative comment over and over again in your mind, you should call a friend. Call that person who encourages you. Do not be ashamed of your bad mood. Grab your friend. Talk to them about the issue.  Then you need to let it go. Keep the Negative People Out of Your Bubble Sometimes the negative people are your family members. So you may not be able to rid yourself of all the negative people in your life.  But you can keep them outside of your protective bubble. Your protective bubble is that mental space  where you keep your mind, soul, spirit, and dreams safe from the naysayers. Only your supporters are allowed inside the bubble. If you are still working, and operating your business part-time, you may have negative co-workers. You must learn to keep them at a distance. You can not afford to let their negative vibe into your bubble. Just Keep Smiling Nothing upsets negative people as much as seeing you happy. So no matter how you may be feeling in the moment, let those haters know that they cannot get you down. Laugh if off. Smile at them.  Smiling releases serotonin. You will begin to feel better. It will lift your mood. You will begin to feel positive. To lift your mood even more, try playing some dance music. Pretty soon you will be dancing across the floor of your office. Conclusion Remember that there will always be haters around who are jealous of your success and envious of your desire to create a different lifestyle. You must protect yourself with your bubble. Surround yourself with positive people. And remember to keep smiling and dancing! Let us know if we can be of any assistance to you as you build your online business. Create Affiliate Niche Sites Creating Affiliate Niche Sites: Another Way to Profit from Affiliate Marketing Creating affiliate niche sites is the focus of this episode of My Biz Dream Team: Opportunity Wednesday Training Series. This program continues the discussion of why and how affiliate marketing is a great way to build your online business. There are many ways to earn money online. One of the most lucrative ways is to become an affiliate marketer. As an affiliate marketer you promote other people's products, in exchange for a percentage of the sales price. You can promote these products and services through your: website blog social media accounts email. What are Affiliate Niche Site? An affiliate niche site is one of limited and narrow focus. It contains information that is useful and interesting to its readers. If your site visitors do not find the information interesting or helpful they will just move on.  You promote products and services that are interest to people with this narrow focus. Think very carefully about the niche you work in. Start with a search on Google Keywords to see the number of searches for your particular idea.  You want to make sure that your niche sites are narrow enough. For example, travel is a broad category. However, winter ski travel to the southern Alps, would be a niche. Get Started Creating Affiliate Niche Sites Affiliate niche sites are not generally related to your main website. You want your main site to be an authority site. However, you can create affiliate niche sites on unrelated topics. For example during the holiday season, you may want to create shopping guides for various types of gifts. The start up process for creating niche sites is straight forward: Buy a domain name. Use a hosting service. We use and recommend Bluehost. Set up your new domain as a subdomain on the hosting server. Install WordPress. Select a theme for your web site. Once your web site is ready you can always hire a graphic designer create a logo for you. We also recommend that use private label rights (PLR) content to help provide some of the content pages for your niche web sites.   Resources: For detailed training on affiliate niche sites, we recommend training by Adrienne Dupree. After taking her training course, we were able to set up several holiday gift guide niche sites over the weekend. Check out: The Cool Toy Shop.com The Unique Holiday Gift Shop.com

Marketing to Get Attention Marketing: Are You Hiding in Plain Sight? In this episode of My Biz Dream Team: Opportunity Wednesday Training Series we discuss three marketing tips that will increase your visibility.  These three steps will keep you from hiding in plain sight.  We discuss in detail during this podcast why you need to (1) start a blog and blog regularly; (2) start a podcast series; and (3) learn the basics of social media marketing. We understand that right now you feel distraught. You just can't seem to figure out how to get started.  There is so much information. None of it, however,  is in a form that is easy to understand and execute. This podcast is different.  We take you step-by-step through the three basic strategies to get you started with your online business.   Step 1: You need a blog It is our experience and others in this business that you need to start with a blog. This blog is your home on the internet.  This is where your audience will find all the valuable information that you have to offer. You are concerned because the blog is public and free. You may wonder about giving away your content. You must remember that no one will buy from you unless you show them you have something of value. Your prospective client wants to first know that you can solve their problem. Your blog is your opportunity to show your audience that you are a problem solver. Your blog is the first step towards greater visibility. A great book on the strategic value of a blog is Book Blog Broadcast: The Trifecta of Entrepreneurial Success, by Connie Ragen Green.    Step 2: You need a podcast In addition to your blog, you will need to start a podcast that is on ITunes. Your prospective client will be searching for relevant information to address an issue. Sometimes people prefer to listen to a short podcast episode. They find it preferable to reading a blog post. the combination of a blog post and a podcast increases your visibility two-fold.  We have prepared a Special Report and Training Guide: The Podcasting Power Playbook that will give you invaluable advice on staring your own podcast series.   Step 3: Learn the "ABCs" of Social Media The third step for increasing your visibility is to market your podcast and blog posts on social media.  Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube are all valuable outlets that allow your prospective clients to find your information.  In a recent blog post, we discussed the ABCs of social media for the new entrepreneur. Remember, that they don't know you. Your prospective clients will find you through your content.  Actively participating on the various social media platforms is your third step towards greater visibility.   We would love to hear from you about the strategies we have outlined here.  Please leave us a comment.
