    106. Categorical Self Binding For Weight Loss, Longevity, and Even Cancer Prevention

Today, Dr. Lisa explores categorical self binding, a strategy where you intentionally avoid entire categories of food (like sugary drinks or ultra-processed snacks) to support weight loss, metabolic health, and potentially even cancer prevention. Unlike relying on willpower, binding creates systems that make healthier choices easier and more automatic over time.Dr. Lisa compares food addiction to substance addiction, highlighting that some of us may need firmer boundaries with hyperpalatable foods, not because there's something wrong with us, but because many foods have been engineered to hook us. While no foods are truly forbidden, experimenting with categorical binding can help reduce cravings and improve long-term habits—especially when done with flexibility and self-compassion.Thanks for listening! Food drama is a ruminating thought pattern that many people have, which is often amplified this time of year. Between Halloween and the New Year, most of us are gaining weight that we never lose, despite the fact that the majority of us are concerned about our weight. Dr. Lisa is the ANTI-diet weight loss doctor, and in today's episode, she'll invite you to CHILL OUT when it comes to holiday treats. It's okay to invite yourself to step back, and simply focus on maintaining your weight for a while. Using her 5 step process, you can avoid weight gain, by declining impulsive trips to the food carnival. Be warned, this episode may lead to relaxing more, trash talking yourself less, and allowing yourself permission to have an occasional holiday treat! It's not a recipe for weight loss, it's an invitation to find a healthy balance, have a little fun, reduce impulsive treats, while you PLAN and ALLOW the holiday treats that are meaningful to you. Thanks for listening! This episode was produced by The Podcast Teacher.

But also, and we're quoting here, "It's time to pull up our big girl panties and throw that candy away!" Whether it's leftover candy, a half eaten bag of chips, or some ice cream in your freezer, chances are there's something you might want to throw out, in order to reduce the food drama.
