President Donald Trump imposed ten percent tariffs on Chinese imports earlier this week, just a day after the tariffs on Canada and Mexico were put on a 30-day pause. The White House says the tariffs are punishing China for allowing fentanyl into the United States. Former US Ambassador to the United Nations Agencies for Food and Agriculture, Kip Tom, joins to share why farmers like him will benefit from the tariffs and what it will mean for the economy. Fentanyl is now considered the deadliest drug in American history, and President Trump's administration has levied tariffs on China in an effort to end ‘the mass invasion of fentanyl in our country.' Calling it a “national emergency,” the Trump administration says Chinese manufacturers are knowingly selling chemicals to further fentanyl production at our borders. New York City Special Narcotics prosecutor Bridget Brennan explains how chemical sales from China circumvent the legal system and worsen the fentanyl crisis. Later, she explains the role of social media and the border play in the nation's illegal drug trade. Plus, commentary by a former U.S. Secretary of Energy, Rick Perry. That will require a referendum, the first Australians would face since the Republican vote in 1999. Bridget Brennan is the Special Narcotics Prosecutor for the City of New York. Responsible for prosecuting major drug related crime that stretches over the City's five boroughs, Bridget has experienced severe changes in the narcotics landscape since taking the role 2 decades ago.Today the country is being ravaged by Fentanyl, and New York is no different. Pouring in from Mexico, this cheap and easily concealable drug is finding its way into everything, from cocaine, to heroin and prescription pills like Oxy and Xanax. With a fatal dose equating to a little finger-nail, getting the importation and distribution of this under control is critical. Today we talk about how this is being done, the interesting nuances of New York City in this regard, and more philosophically about the ‘war on drugs'.Please enjoy my conversation with Bridget Brennan.
'The Wrap' is RN Drive's summary of the biggest stories of the week, plus some you may have missed.

Episode 4 of The School of Success Podcast Series is now live! The perfect gift of self-love and time-out from busy weekly life
My grandpa once told me that it is a woman’s prerogative to change her mind. In every scenario and especially in business, you have the power to niche down, do a big scale do-over or reposition whenever you think you need to. Successful leaders and entrepreneurs exercise the right to change their minds. My guest today is the perfect example of a successful entrepreneur ending one business to start another that felt more aligned with her ambitions and goals. If your business doesn’t fulfill you or make you happy, eventually it will plateau. But, being aware of your positioning and knowing when it’s time to pivot can prevent that. Keep Reading >> This is easier said than done because as women, we’ve been conditioned to fit in and never leave anyone behind, including customers. How do you uplevel your business and move on from your loyal following? In today’s episode, I’m joined by sales coach and “unapologetic wealth creator,” Jess Lorimer. Jess is the founder of Smart Leader Sell and focuses on corporate sales, but this isn’t what her business always looked like. She’s sharing how her decision to take bold action came about and how she implemented it. We’ll discuss the bumps she faced along the way as well as the reasons women entrepreneurs struggle with taking massive action. If you have ever wanted to call time-out on the business you are building, this episode is for you. Today on the Power + Presence + Position Podcast: What prompted Jess to make the decision to change her business. What happens when you aren’t fulfilled by the business you’re building. How women are socialized not to leave anyone behind. Why women hold themselves back from making major decisions. The 2 different types of fear we face as business owners. Why selling transparently is the least sleazy form of sales. If you want your sales team to simplify their process so they can connect better with their customers, then you have to listen to this conversation! In today's episode, Tim Reed sits down with acclaimed author and keynote speaker (Bridget Brennan, CEO of The Female Factor and author of "Winning Her Business") to talk about connecting with today's female consumer and building a sales process based on simplicity, clarity, and understanding. In this conversation, you'll learn: The four motivators that a woman needs from your company in order to buy (you don't want to miss any of these) Why there's no such thing as a "tire-kicker" in today's market (customers are way more serious than you think) Why making is easy to buy from you is the foundation to winning her business (this is more important than ever) Don't write this conversation off if your company mostly sells to men, because even if it for them, women have the veto vote on any major purchase. If you put these ideas into practice, your business can create an amazing customer experience and a tidal wive of referrals that you can ride for years to come. Today we're talking about money and reaching that elusive goal of a six-figure salary. I really believe that all of you have the potential to be making $100k per year (or more.) Here are five tips on how you can get to a six-figure income. 1. Conviction You need to believe that you are selling the absolute best product someone can buy. People can tell when you're not convicted about what you're selling and that will end with you not making the sale. Really believe that you are doing right by your customer and that they are getting a premium product. 2. Educate yourself You are a business owner, you are in charge of marketing and sales. You need to be continually educating yourself on how you can do a better job, how you can make more sales, and how you can share value with your clients. 3. Persistence Keep going even if you get a lot of “No's”. Every time you get a no is an opportunity to refine and practice your sales skills, and you're getting closer to the “Yes”. 4. Selling is a good thing The exchange of goods or services for money is an amazing thing. It's energizing for both parties and results in a win-win situation. Make selling your friend and get comfortable with it — it can actually be a lot of fun! 5. Be a human Don't be a robot when selling. Listen, care, and show empathy for your client and the sales will follow! Your potential clients are humans just like you and they want to be treated as such. “Sales and marketing are the lifeblood of our businesses. These are the things that make our businesses thrive. This is what makes them grow and what makes them survive!” Main Takeaways Sales and marketing are the core of your business — don't fight it, instead learn everything you can about it. Provide a high-quality product to your customers and really believe that you are delivering something of value. Value your customers by listening to them and treating them as you want to be treated. Correspondent Bridget Brennan's appointment in London means she's wrapped up her time as a domestic correspondent covering Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander issues. And although the Brexit debate might seem a million miles away from reporting from remote communities, she's found some parallels.
On this week’s program: Exploring the impact of the US government shutdown with Conor Duffy; Bridget Brennan looks at Brexit parallels with Australia and Indigenous affairs; India facing rising pollution levels in their rapidly growing mega-cities; And Matthew Carney's journal from Kashghar.
Indigenous Affairs correspondent Bridget Brennan has just spent a month on secondment in the United States. On an assignment to Chicago she met many inspiring people working to make their communities stronger, and fighting negative perceptions.
