However, they need to realize there are buyers for that policy and that they can sell their existing policy. Jamie explains all the benefits of knowing the value of your life insurance policy and how easy it is to learn about this simple process. This episode of Beyond the Balance Sheet is an eye-opener. So, grab your pen and take some notes.    IN THIS EPISODE:   [01:35] Jamie explains how Ashar Group works with policy owners  [03:01] There is a secondary market that will value life insurance policies that an individual wants to relinquish [5:00] Large institutions etc., purchase policies. Guaranteed universal life products are a very attractive purchase  [06:44] Jamie discusses repurposing life insurance policies, and she gives statistics on the loss of capital because people are not aware of this concept [12:20] Valuing life insurance policies and how they fit into overall financial planning [15:47] Jamie tells about a family who monetized the mother's life insurance policy to fund her care    KEY TAKEAWAYS:   People have walked away from their life insurance policies because they couldn't afford the premiums. She also gives advice to estheticians who desire a 12-hour workday and how she can do this in a way that her team members love their work-life and remain motivated. Brooke's Bio Brooke Kennedy is more than just a fresh-faced beauty queen from Sequim, WA; she's got ambition and brains and a profound passion for the health and wellbeing of people and the environment. She learned much of her adult regimens and character qualities from her mother, who taught her from a young age the importance of skin care, and from her father, who owned a restaurant and demonstrated hard work and excellent customer service. After attending the University of Washington, where Brooke studied molecular cell biology, dance, and French, and was an active member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority, she decided that medical school was not going to be her path, and she began to pursue other avenues while supporting herself in the food and beverage industry. Along the way, she also spent time in the electrical industry developing business and sales, and working in project management. In 2012 Brooke graduated from the Euro Institute of Skin Care and opened Bliss by Brooke Skin Care in 2013 in a 7 ½' x 8 ½' made-over closet of a hair salon. Since then she has continuously improved her knowledge base and skill set as an aesthetician by completing courses in advanced skin analysis (with Florence Barrett-Hill of Pastiche) and acquiring an oncology esthetic certificate, which is a personal passion for Brooke. Skin care, for Brooke, feels like a perfect combination of serving others, creating a memorable guest experience, and using the latest scientific advancements. Kara is the Community Manager of Community Partnerships at Facebook and is leading the community experience for the Facebook Certified Community Manager program. About Kara Kara has been building community since the age of 6. She fell in love with community building while working as a Sorority Leadership Consultant, and continued pursuing her passion while leading communities at theSkimm and Shine. Kara is now a Community Manger at Facebook where she's using her experience in community building, content creation, grassroots marketing, and event strategy to give people the power to build community and bring the world closer together. She has coached collegiate women to lead award-winning sorority chapters; cultivated a brand ambassador army responsible for 20% of audience growth; led campaigns to educate and motivate over 200,000 people to cast an informed vote in the 2018 midterm election; and connected millions of people across the globe with support, strategies, and resources to prioritize their mental health as members the world's largest self-care community. Kara has been a keynote speaker at the CMX Summit and SocialFresh conferences, a panellist at Be Social Change and Dreamers / Doers, a facilitator for Alpha Delta Pi and LeaderShape, as well as a mentor for FindSpark and Get Sh!t Done Accelerator programs. BIG IDEA 1 “We're in an age of authenticity where people are really supporting the brands and organisations, that customers not only believe in, but are really aligned with, whether it's based on their values or the organisations that they support.” (12:33) Kara says there are so many opportunities for brands and organizations right now to create communities that it's hard to pick just a couple to talk about. She says we're in an age of authenticity where people are really supporting the brands and organisations, that customers not only believe in, but are really aligned with whether it's based on their values or the organizations that they support. It feels different than it did even five - ten years ago in terms of people aren't just buying the big brand anymore, they're buying from the people that really feel authentic and that they feel connected to. She says community, especially a digital community, can just be such an amazing tool to showcase that authenticity, to connect with your consumer and community on a regular basis in a way that's real.  BIG IDEA 2 “Connecting the community members with each other is the most important thing.” (21:13) On the topic of learning how to become a community manager, Kara says connecting community members with each other is the most important thing, especially in a learning group. Because social learning is so important, that peer support, is essential for community managers. To be able to give them a community and provide them with people who get it and can help them along the way, to help them feel supported and help them learn. She says that's why the Facebook Community Manager Certification Learning Group has learning mentors who support the learners in this group. They're there to share personal experiences, host study sessions and answer questions to make sure that people feel like they have someone behind them cheering them on. She says that because not anyone can get certified, to know that not only are you putting in the work, but you have this group of people behind you that really want to see you succeed is important. So, the Facebook Community Manager Certification Learning Group has the learning mentor program set up to help with that. Everything is organised. So if people want to go in and learn at their own pace, they can go through the guides and get directed to all the learning materials very easily.  BIG IDEA 3 “Know why you're starting

"What was the hardest part about being out in a sorority?" "Did ever feel you were just used as a face of acceptance and inclusion for a place that wasn't that?" "What are the best parts about Greek life?" "How can we change a system so rooted in antiquated ways?"On this week's episode, I interview Addison McKissack (she/her), who's a journalist and the editor of our show; not only that but she is also and Alpha Delta Pi alumna and the first openly gay president of the National Panhellenic Conference chapter at Texas State. Something that is very integral to the college experience is that of Greek life. However, the unfortunate thing about this system, is that its many antiquated elements (language and policies) that negatively perpetuate gender roles and heteronormativity. Though, as Addison shares, there are many positive elements to the Greek life--creating family that expands generations, the philanthropic elements--it can often be hard to acknowledge the good when the "foundation of the house" is made up of elitist principles. Addison tells her story of doing Alpha Delta Pi and eventually becoming the first openly gay president of the Texas Sate Chapter of the National Panhellenic Conference. We also discuss:Organizations and companies commodifying Queer and BIPOC people as faces of inclusion and diversity.Traditions that perpetuate inherent heteronormativityExclusion of Queer people in the Greek systemWhy the Greek system should still existHow to make the system more inclusiveFollow Addison:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/addisonmckiss/Twitter: https://twitter.com/addisonmckissHouse of GG:Learn: https://houseofgg.orgDonate: https://houseofgg.org/donate/Resources for Further Learning:Secret Sisters: Stories of Being Lesbian and Bisexual in a College Sorority: https://www.amazon.com/Secret-Sisters-Stories-Bisexual-Sorority/dp/1555835880"Gay and Greek: LGBTQ+ students make homes in fraternities and sororities": https://www.dailytarheel.com/article/2019/02/gay-and-greek-0218"What's It Like Being Queer and in Greek Life? 4 Students Tell Us":  https://www.toughtotame.org/4-students-tell-us-what-its-like-to-be-queer-and-in-greek-lifeGreek and queer: LGBTQ+ students navigate Greek life at the university: http://udreview.com/greek-and-queer-lgbtq-students-navigate-greek-life-at-the-university/Show Produced by Nick EiblerEdited by Addison McKissackTheme Song written by Matt Gregory, Colin Egan, and Mike Hubbard Produced by Colin Egan and Mike HubbardLogo Design by David Pavón
