Or Alterman-Barnea, co-founder and CEO of Mekomot Shmurim (Safe Place), discusses how she transformed theatrical experiences for neurodivergent children. After her own son's autism diagnosis, Or created performances where the lights stay on, sounds remain gentle, and children can move freely without judgment—revolutionizing cultural accessibility across Israel. Key Topics: The concept of "relaxed performances" designed for neurodivergent audiences Creating theater experiences without surprises or sensory overload The power of community in addressing unmet needs Or's journey from cultural journalist to inclusive theater pioneer The philosophy of adapting systems to people instead of forcing people to adapt Notable Quotes: "When we started it and thought about 'safe place,' we didn't imagine what kind of meaning 'safe place' would have for us now." "Every single spoiler that you can think of. There are no surprises." "It's like we call it a 'shoosh-free zone.' Nobody will shoosh them." "Many, many families came and said to us, 'This is our first time in the theater.' And we're talking about seven-year-old children, nine-year-old children." "We're so used to telling this child, 'Listen, if you can't sit then go out'... But no, we will leave the door open. It's on your terms now." Or's Powerful Question: "When was the last time you thought about who makes the decisions for you? Who decides how people are supposed to dress, to act, to spend their free time, to sit in the theater?" Historian Eric Alterman loves footnotes and cares a lot about where information comes from. Concerned that bad information is crowding out good information-and that the GOP doesn't care, he is unwilling to simply accept what he's read or heard. Alterman urges students to think critically: to evaluate the quality of the source providing the information.

About Eloise Alterman: I'm Eloise Alterman, a singer-songwriter on a journey fueled by passion, perseverance, and the power of music to weave tales that resonate with the soul. My story began in Detroit, where I found solace and expression through songwriting from a young age. Growing up as the only music enthusiast in my family, I knew early on that music was my calling. In pursuit of my dreams, I made the bold decision to move to the vibrant city of West Hollywood in 2021, and I haven't looked back since. Immersed in the creative energy and endless possibilities of this eclectic community, I've found inspiration around every corner and forged meaningful connections with fellow artists and collaborators. My music is a reflection of life's highs and lows, weaving together melodies and lyrics that capture the essence of human experience. From heartache to hope, from dreams to reality, each song is a glimpse into my world, shared with the hope of connecting with others on a deeply personal level. __________________ Follow/Watch/Listen/Subscribe: Instagram: @rootedrecoverystories Tiktok: @patrickcusterproject YouTube: @rootedrecoverystories Facebook: @rootedrecoverystories Website: www.rootedrecoverystories.com __________________ Cast: Host: Patrick Custer Insta: @patrick_custer Tiktok: @patrickcusterproject Guest: Eloise Alterman Instagram: @eloisealterman YouTube: @eloisealterman __________________ Get Help (adiction, mental health/trauma): Promises Behavioral Health Email: info@thecastcollective.com Instagram: @promises_bh Website: www.promises.com __________________ Production: Produced and Edited by "The Cast Collective" (Nashville, TN) Email: info@thecastcollective.com Instagram: @TheCastCollective Twitter: @TheCastCollective

Why vote Republican when economic growth under Democratic presidents, is 4.6% and 2.4% under Republicans? Earlier this week marked one year since Hamas attacked Israel. Hamas militants invaded Israel, killed about 1,200 people and kidnapped another 250 people, making it the deadliest attack in Israel's history. About 100 hostages have not been returned. Israel's retaliation in Gaza has killed more than 41,000 people and wounded more than 96,000, according to the Gaza Health Ministry, and resulted in mass displacement and a humanitarian crisis. As the war in the Middle East continues with no immediate cease-fire deal in sight, the situation will pose difficulties for the next U.S. president. Jon Alterman, author of the piece “Middle East Challenges Will Vex Not Only the First 100 Days but the First 1,000,” sums up the complex challenges that await. It's part of a new report by the Center for Strategic and International Studies on the global impact of the 2024 election, where Alterman serves as the senior vice president. He also directs the Middle East Program. MPR News politics editor Brian Bakst talks with Alterman about the dynamics in the Middle East and where the leading presidential candidates line up. Author Liz Alterman discusses her new domestic suspense novel, The Perfect Neighborhood. In this idyllic suburban town, a little boy goes missing, and the event shakes the very foundation of the town where everyone assumed they were safe. The novel is told from multiple points of view, including the mother of the missing boy, the boy's teenage babysitter, and a former actress who resists assimilating. All of these characters are on the outside of what is perceived to be the neighborhood's inner circle. But as they—and Liz's readers—will find out, no one's life is as perfect as it seems.
Atlanta-based pianist Joe Alterman hopped on the phone recently to catch up with Sean McPherson from Jazz88 about his upcoming show at Crooner's. Alterman discussed how a love of bluegrass brought him to his career in jazz and discussed the humor he sometimes finds in a player's dynamic range.

This week, Liz Alterman is here to discuss her riveting new novel, The Perfect Neighborhood, a thought-provoking read about the dark side of suburbia that will keep you up late turning the pages.
The Partition Plan of November 1947 has a glaring error insofar as that it never occurred; and there never was a partition between a Jewish and an Arab country. The significance of the Partition Plan was that it delineated a point from which both sides could begin their struggle. For the Zionists it was never more than a starting point as no one believed that it was the ending point for the map according to the Partition Plan was unrealistic and absurd. From the Arab position the Partition Plan was not even a starting point, but rather a non-starter. The Arabs had pledged that they would rid the land from the Jews, and the chiefs of staff of the Arab neighbors plus army contingents from Iraq and Saudi Arabia that do not even border Israel, met to devise a strategy how to annihilate the Jewish menace. Proof that as Weizmann had spoken and Alterman had composed into poetry, Israel was not going to be delivered on a “silver platter.”

In We Are Not One, historian Eric Alterman traces this debate from Isreal's nineteenth-century origins. Following it's 1948–1949 War of Independence (called the “nakba” or “catastrophe” by Palestinians), few Americans, including few Jews, paid much attention to Israel or the challenges it faced at this time. According to Alterman, following the 1967 Six-Day War, almost overnight support for Israel became the primary component of American Jews' collective identity. Over time, Jewish organizations joined forces with conservative Christians and neoconservative pundits and politicos to wage a tenacious fight to define Israel's image in the US media, popular culture, Congress, and college campuses. Join us when Alterman expounds on his researched, and reveals how consensus on Israel and Palestine emerged and why, it is fracturing.
