Scripture References: Proverbs 3:13-18, Proverbs 4:7, Proverbs 1:22, Colossians 1:16, Colossians 2:3, Ephesians 4:17-18, Matthew 28Intro:Hey everyone, we're kicking off a new summer series in the Book of Proverbs! We'll explore wisdom's themes each week. You can also grab our summer reading plan at the connect table to devotionally read through the whole book. By summer's end, you'll have journeyed through Proverbs, seeing its practical wisdom for your daily life with God.Key Points:Proverbs is a Wisdom Book:It emphasizes the urgency of seeking wisdom. Proverbs 4:7 says, "Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom, and in all your getting get understanding."In a culture of acquiring, let's prioritize getting what truly matters – wisdom.Proverbs 3:13-18 highlights wisdom's value: "Blessed are those who find wisdom… for wisdom is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold… Nothing you desire compares to her." It's imperishable, worth holding onto.Proverbs Offers Practical Wisdom:This isn't just about spiritual knowledge; it's about wisdom for every corner of our lives: relationships, work, goals, resources. If our wisdom isn't relevant to most of our life, it's not biblical wisdom. The root word of Proverbs means "to be like," inviting us to compare our lives to its principles. It's a "plumb line" for daily living.Ancient Hebrew culture saw life as a seamless garment – no separation between sacred and secular, public and private. Proverbs is a "timeless portable teacher."Proverbs Defines the Wise Person:The book divides people into two simple categories: the wise and righteous or the fool and wicked. There's no middle ground.Proverbs 1:22 asks, "How long, inexperienced ones, will you love ignorance?" or "How long, you simpletons, will you love naivety?" God's Word compels us to choose a side.A wise person is humble, seeks knowledge, listens to instruction, accepts correction, controls emotions, and brings joy to others.Obstacles to Teachability:Narrow Belief of Knowledge: We can mistakenly believe learning is only spiritual. Colossians 1:16 reminds us that everything was created by Him – the sacred and the mundane. God cares about every detail of our lives, even parking spaces!Assuming Full Understanding: We often face "crises of understanding" rather than "crises of faith." Loving God isn't the end of learning; it's loving God with our minds. Truth is eternal, but knowledge is changeable (Madeline L'Engle). Don't confuse them.Inability to Unlearn: God may want to rearrange our thinking. Jeremiah 1:4-10 shows Jeremiah needing to unlearn his self-perception to embrace God's calling. What do we need to unlearn about our identity in Christ?Pride and Sin: Sin distorts our thinking. Ephesians 4:17-18 describes futility in thinking and darkened understanding outside of Christ. But as children of God, we've been brought into the light (Ephesians 5:8) and in Christ are all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge (Colossians 2:3).Conclusion:This summer, as we become more teachable and pursue wisdom, remember we're not seeking wisdom for its own sake. We're pursuing it to know the one who holds all wisdom: Jesus. When you know Him more, you'll simply want to know Him even more.Call to Action:Let's approach the table with humility, acknowledging we don't have it all figured out, but we're coming to the one who does. "His older son...was angry." Lk 15:25, 28 NKJVThe parable of the prodigal son is about two boys and their father's love for each. The younger one dishonored his father and ended up in a pigpen. When he returned home, he had lost everything—except his father's love.So no matter who you are or what you have done-God loves you and wants you in His family. Jesus made an amazing statement: "When he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him" (v. 20 NKJV).Ancient Hebrew culture thought running was an undignified act for older men. Men wore long flowing robes, and had to pull them up around their waist to run, exposing their undergarments. But the father didn't care about what people thought; he cared about his wayward son. Unfortunately, his older brother didn't feel that way. Do you understand why a lot of younger brothers are still out in the pigpen and don't want to enter the church? Because they're afraid older brothers will hit them with the mean hand of judgment instead of touching them with the welcoming hand of love. The older brother desires punishment, but the father provides pardon. The older brother requires guilt, but the father gives grace. The older brother wants revenge, but the father wants reconciliation. Here is the good news: No matter how low you have fallen, know that as soon as you return, you will discover your heavenly Father facing you, extending open arms and a loving heart toward you.Prodigal, come home! Sermon series: Transforming through Community This is the second of four messages that were shared at our 2024 church retreat: Ancient Hebrew wisdom compares a foolish or wicked man to chaff that is blown away and forgotten but a wise or righteous man has an eternal legacy. Redemptive history shows us that God's people fail, time and again to be wise. The result is eternal condemnation. But ancient Hebrew prophecy pointed to the eternal wise man who rescues the foolish from their foolishness and heals them of their wickedness. Preacher: Tim Mountfort Date: 10 August 2024

In this message, Pastor Matt kicks off a new summer sermon series on the Book of Psalms. He shares how the Psalms came alive for him during the difficulties of 2020 and have become a regular part of his devotional life. The Book of Psalms is a unique collection of 150 ancient Hebrew poems, songs, and prayers that span 1000 years of Israel's history. The Psalms express the full range of human emotion and experience, capturing life's highs and lows. Pastor Matt introduces the literary structure and devices used in the Book of Psalms: The Hebrew word for Psalms means "instrumental music" and "poem set to notes." The Psalms were used in worship by the choirs in Israel's temple. The Book of Psalms is deliberately structured into 5 "books," which parallel the 5 books of Moses. It serves as a "Torah" or instruction for God's people on prayer. Psalms 1 and 2 form an introduction, highlighting the themes of trusting in God's word and hoping in his Messianic king. The two major types of Psalms are lament and praise, with lament predominating in the first half and praise in the book's second half. This mirrors the movement from sorrow to joy. Ancient Hebrew poetry uses literary devices such as terseness (being concise), parallelism (rhyming ideas, not sounds), and figurative imagery (painting pictures with words). Understanding these literary features helps uncover the deeper meaning the authors intended to convey. The Psalms are "literarily literally true" - they accurately use poetic devices to communicate God's timeless truth. Pastor Matt does a deep dive into Psalm 1, which contrasts two ways to live - the way of the righteous who delight in God's word and the way of the wicked who ultimately perishes. The Psalm paints a picture of the progressive steps of sin - walking, standing, and finally sitting with scoffers and mockers of God. In contrast, the righteous person meditates on God's word day and night, like a cow chewing its cud. This enables them to be stable, fruitful, and prosperous like a well-watered tree. The Psalms have much to teach us today about cultivating a deep relationship with God through prayerful meditation on his word. They give us a vocabulary for expressing our emotions to God and provide guidance for navigating life's challenges. The Psalms point us to Jesus, the Messianic King, and lead us to find our ultimate joy and satisfaction in him. Join us on a journey through the Book of Psalms this summer! In Gal. 3, Paul makes the grammatically singular form of the noun “seed” (σπέρμα) load bearing for his argument. But the singular form of that word doesn't necessarily denote one individual. Paul is employing contemporary Jewish exegetical practices, and the understanding of that and Paul's wider aims can be helpful here. Dr. Christian Brady is T. W. Episode 178 “Beautiful and Terrible Things” with Christian Brady Tragedy has a way of bringing people together. People who might not meet otherwise hear about and then seek out connection with people who have a shared experience. Listeners to this podcast will recall that in 2019 the adult son of David Capes, our host, and his wife, Cathy, died at the age of 36 from a vicious and rare cancer. They have been open about their grief. Well, years earlier Christian Brady and his wife, Elizabeth, had a tragic experience of their own when their son, Mack, age 9, died of sepsis. Parents should never have to say good-bye like this to their children. It is unnatural, and yet it happens far too often. Christian Brady joins David Capes on The Stone Chapel Podcasts to talk about his book, Beautiful and Terrible Things: A Christian Struggle with Suffering, Grief, and Hope (Westminster John Knox Press, 2020). Who Is Christian Brady? Christian Brady is Professor of Ancient Hebrew and Jewish Literature and the Dean of the Lewis Honors College at the University of Kentucky. He is also a priest in the Episcopal Diocese of Lexington, KY. He is married to Elizabeth. Together they have two children, though one they no longer see. “Beautiful and Terrible Things” Brady has written an important book, reflecting deeply on grief, faith and Scripture. Whoever reads this book will feel guided gently through the losses that come from life's tragedies. As “lament” is a common theme in Scripture, so it is in this book. He gives us the language we need to do the important work of grief. What Scholars say about “Beautiful and Terrible Things” Here is what Walter Brueggemann said of this book: “Brady's witness is to the costly process of grief and the prospect of faith that will not alleviate but will carry us through that cost. This book will serve well those who face such anguished loss. Beyond that, the book is enriched with study questions for those who know that, sooner or later, we will all lose our loved one and will be summoned to such grief.” Resources For a transcript of this podcast, click here. Streamed live on Oct 18, 2023 From Sean @ Kingdom In Context ~~~ Presenter: Matthew Janzen - Ministers of the New Covenant Title: "My Journey To Ancient Hebrew Cosmology" ~~~ Matthew Janzen of Ministers of the New Covenant About Matthew and Ministers of the New Covenant: We believe in Yahweh the Father, Almighty Maker of heaven and earth, and in Yeshua the Messiah His only begotten Son, our Master. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Miriam, lived a sinless life according to Torah, and preached the Good News of the Kingdom. He suffered and died as a substitute sacrifice for our sin, and was resurrected on the third day for our justification. Eternal life is this: knowing the Father and His Son, made possible by the gift of the Holy Spirit, a new heart and mind. After this gift, the believer is given the ability to follow Yahweh's holy law. Following this law is the inevitable fruit of regeneration and justification. What Moses and the people heard was massively different and very revealing, Moses goes to the top of mount Sinai to deliver his message and communicated a message, how is unknown, which was written to Ancient Israel, in Ancient Hebrew, Ancient Vocabulary and Ancient Understanding. Mark discussed the impact on the neighboring cultures based on a current map of the area. Moses, through the power of God wrote the ten commands in stone and gave them to Israel. If you appreciate this work, consider supporting it - https://www.patreon.com/seekgodtogether Today we will read Leviticus 12:2-5. These verses say, “Tell the Israelites: When a woman becomes pregnant and gives birth to a male child, she will be unclean seven days…She will continue in purification from her bleeding for 33 days. She must not touch any holy thing or go into the sanctuary until completing her days of purification. But if she gives birth to a female child, she will be unclean for two weeks as she is during her menstrual impurity. She will continue in purification from her bleeding for 66 days.” There are a lot of weird things in scripture. And this one ranks near the top. Just to summarize incase you missed it, a woman is essentially unclean for 40 days if she has a boy and 80 days total if she has a girl. 40 days, unclean, for a boy, and 80 days for a girl. Why is this in the bible? I have no clue. We already believe that scripture is inspired of God but is also written within the context and agendas of the writers. Is this saying that little girls are twice as impure as little boys? I sure hope not. We're by far not the first to question this passage. Ancient Hebrew scholars came up with some very creative, and in some cases hysterical explanations. Including but not limited to: the length of time it takes for the woman to repent of swearing off ever having sex again. I kid you not. Supposedly this time is less for a boy because male babies were more preferable. You can't make this stuff up. Other explanations include the biological idea that if sperm goes to one side a male is produced, and on the other side a female, and it takes half as long for quote “rotted blood” to leave the body from the male side verses the female side. Sheesh. I prefer the Adam and Eve explanation. Whatever your particular views of Genesis 1-3, the narrative states that Adam was in the garden first. And then later Eve is revealed as a mystery hidden within Adam. In a sense then Adam has a head-start in exploring God's world. The females get a little more time then. Whatever the explanation notice a few other things. First, Leviticus, far from being mean, is giving a new mom time to bond. There is no rush back to work, or any additional responsibilities given other than laying low and spending time with the new baby. Second, while we didn't read it, the verses following spell out the need for an atonement offering. It's the same for males and females. There's not an extra offering for females. All humanity requires the same thing to be right with God, a sacrifice. And this sacrifice is offered before the baby has done anything immoral. It is necessary and provision is made even without the baby's consent. And finally, the females get a longer period of time. And while this could understandably be viewed as a knock against females, just consider that everything in creation led up to a female - not to a male. The crowning moment of goodness didn't come with Adam but with Eve. When a man and woman get married, the groom walks in unceremoniously and without fanfare. But then everyone stands to attention, and marvels at the glory of the beautiful bride in the white dress. And in the future, Jesus will get His bride. Yes He's made all the provision, He did all the sacrificing and suffering…Yes He's the King and the Savior…but all His attention and romantic energy is aimed in one direction - the female - the bride - the church - the humanity that He is reconciling back to Himself. God even in strange passages we can see You and marvel at You. I am part of Your bride. Show me more of what this means.

"Matchmaking" shows abound. Teenagers wept over Taylor Swift's last breakup. Why? Ancient Hebrew secret: relation is everything—even for God Himself.
For Scott Stripling, one archaeologist's trash has become his treasure. And through a process called wet sifting—a methodological revolution bring to light small or hidden artifacts that were previously missed at many archaeological digs—Stripling and his team have made an incredible discovery on Mount Ebal in the mountains of Samaria in Israel that could very well be one of the most significant finds in biblical history. Stripling, the Director of Excavations for the Associates for Biblical Research @DiggingForTruth and his team traveled to #MountEbal, about 50 miles north of Jerusalem, for a dig at the altar described in Joshua 8:30: “Then Joshua built an altar to the Lord God of Israel on Mount Ebal, as Moses commanded the children of Israel.” It was a site that Stripling said Israeli archaeologist Adam Zertal had excavated in the 1980s and had “done a very good job on it. Stripling said he wanted to “check his dump pile there” to see if Zertal had missed anything of significance. Through wet sifting, what Stripling and his team found in Zertal's “dump pile” was a lead folding tablet with writing on the inside estimated to be 3,400 years old. Stripling says it's the oldest Hebrew writing that had ever been found, in a proto alphabetic script. “That predates biblical Hebrew, or paleo Hebrew, which is what we think of from the First Temple period, the earliest writings we had previously,” Stripling says. The inscription on the tablet included the name of Yahweh, the Hebrew name for God used in the Bible, twice. Gibbor: Hebrew word that means “mighty, strong, valiant, tyrant, powerful, champion” In the past few years, a trend has been gaining momentum in the world of Bible studies. That trend is the exploration of the supernatural content of Scripture. As Westerners, who are largely under-educated in the Ancient Hebrew culture, making many parts of the Bible seem ultra mysterious to us. We have a tendency to view the Word as missing details and context. Our curiosity leads us to a feeling of entitlement for further information. So we set out to discover teachers to feed our appetite, as if the Bible can't satisfy us as it is. And in the nature of Western civilization, plenty of people have risen to the occasion to fill the needs and the desires of the masses, all for their personal gain. This episode takes a look at this behavior and how so many of us have adopted extra-biblical sources as our doctrine, superseding God's True Word, and elevating our teachers and their content to idol status. “It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man” Psalm 118:8Follow on Instagram @ smashing_idols
Join us in a presentation of the Ancient Hebrew Scroll Project who possess a complete TANAKH scroll set. These Ancient Hebrew Scrolls make up the only complete set of the TANAKH (Hebrew Scriptures, or what some refer to as the Old Testament) in the world that you can see. Sixteen scrolls make up an entire TANAKH; however, this traveling Ancient Hebrew Scroll display contains all 16 scrolls plus duplicates.

SCROLL DOWN TO SEE THE PAINTINGS BY MARLENE SEVEN BREMNER WE ARE TALKING ABOUT DURING THE INTERVIEW This week we have a refreshing interview with Marlene Seven Bremner, an American artist and writer presently residing in New Mexico. While a student of polarity therapy, Seven initiated into Jungian alchemical teaching, which in turn flowed into her personal study and distillation of the Hermetica. This discovery process included visual art, textual exploration, and ultimately the writing of a full manuscript. Seven has recently released her first title with Inner Traditions, Hermetic Philosophy and Creative Alchemy: The Emerald Tablet, the Corpus Hermeticum, and the Journey Through the Seven Spheres. The interview is a conversation aligned to her text, appealing to both the new and seasoned students of the Hermetica. Seven's unassuming, lunar quiet blends with solar scholarly intensity as she traverses the conversation. Subjects explored in dialogue with Rudolf range from the alchemy of oil painting; the call to expression through Logos; channeling poetry, and the creative alchemy of the ascent through the Seven Spheres. Bremner soulfully articulates the devotional-contemplative hermetic lifestyle, worldly input, and the influence of the natural elemental balance in Place. Seven makes candid acknowledgement of the importance of attaining balance between the inspiration and distraction of artistic community. Seven and Rudolf specifically explore her painting Harmonia Elementorum, which is present on her WEBSITE (click here or into the link section further down) Her website also features poetry including “Circulato” (dated May 2018), beginning: “I never learned how to dive. I only learned how to sink, in waters deep, deeper than three times my self and dark with the blood of my ancestors…” Enjoy the still waters running deep in this conversation! Nubian music is part of the folk tradition in both Egypt and Sudan. Today's guest, Marlene Seven Bremner, when visiting Egypt recently, was fascinated by the Nubian music, so two out of three tracks today come from this tradition. 1) TRIBAL WAR CHANT - Traditional Nubian Music recorded live in Egypt during a local folk ceremony (Track starts at 7:08) 2) ANCIENT EGYPTIAN LOVE SONG - Peter Pringle Peter Pringle (born 1945) is a Canadian musician and television personality, mainly active in the 70s and 80s. In the last two decades he has reconstructed music and musical instruments from thousands of years back, Sumerian, Ancient Hebrew, Babylonian and Egyptian. God can only speak out of His excellence. Because He is so excellent, He will never speak affirmatively into our mediocrity. He says be perfect. He says be holy as I am holy. Think on this for a moment. What does holiness mean? Ancient Hebrew describes holiness as "a cut above the rest". More importantly, holiness describes a level of excellence in all that we will do for God. God declares His best towards you, but have you declared your best towards God? In the message "The Best Of Me", we place priority with God in all our earthly treasures. He gave us His best. Therefore, I will give Him my best. Take a moment to hear this message. It will create a place of complete surrender while unleashing untold blessing into your life.
“Shalom” is the word Jews normally use to greet one another. It is an ancient biblical word with intriguing overtones of meaning that make it a powerful spiritual proclamation and prayer. It is a faith-filled confession that God will do numerous beneficial things in the life of the person being greeted. A wonderful truth! Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek: the languages of the original text of Scripture are RICH with meaning and help us understand God's Word even better. While you don't need to be a Biblical language scholar or take a class on Ancient Hebrew to be able to read the Bible, we find that looking up words in their original form can be so meaningful in studying Scripture. We talk about the basics of these languages and why we believe it is so helpful to have a basic grasp on Biblical languages. Join Autumn and Annabel in this week's episode! This is the Ahdawan Palal (Lord's prayer) in the ancient hebrew. The Lashawan Qadash (holy, pure tongue.) This is our native language as Israelites. We are the true descendants of the ancient Israelites who the LORD brought us out of the land of Egypt. Slavery and oppression are nothing new to us as a people. America is modern-day Egypt. Don't believe it? Look at a dollar bill and you will see a pyramid on the back. The so-called negroes built America as slaves just like the Israelites built ancient Egypt and build up their treasured cities. Black Americans were stripped of their language, culture, and heritage. Although within this captivity our people created a subculture like music, inventions, style, language, food and set the trends for pop culture. However, our history was purposely erased where we lost our true identity as the true Israelites of the bible. 12 tribes which consist of so-called Negroes, Latinos, and Native Americans. The tribe of Judah is the so-called African Americans which the LORD is putting a spirit on Judah now which they are being roused up because of the oppression and the other tribes have magnified themselves against Judah which the LORD is raising the tents of them first. By showing disrespect and indifference to Judah and not realizing the plight of Judah in America despite the harsh system of Edomite supremacy. We are commanded to gather together as the 12 tribes in these last days and only the elect, the remnant will take heed. Our heritage is written of in the bible and by returning to the LORD by repenting and keeping the Father's laws, statutes and commandments with humility and love can we seek salvation from Babylon the Great which is America. Repent for the kingdom of heaven is nigh. The Name of God Series 8: Is Yehovah His Name? Our Response To A Modern PhariseeNehemia Gordon has been traveling the world with a new doctrinal message trying to bring Yehovah back. However, in this video, we will respond to his very shallow claim which has no basis in Ancient Hebrew, no precedent and even his colleagues mostly do not agree with him. In fact, his own name doesn't agree and he even says so. You gotta watch this. This is a reload of a video that was somehow taken down and a copyright strike applied illegally bypassing YouTube's process and even the legal system in which we had full right to play and respond to his actual words. We encourage to first watch this video from Dr, Michael Rood's program featuring Nehemia Gordon first and then, this is our response:https://youtu.be/SsLhk39qEqwThese guys are not propagating ancient Hebrew, they are applying modern Yiddish rules and letters that do not exist in Ancient Hebrew. How do we know? The Dead Sea Scrolls have no V nor J and the Bible sets the precedent for Yah not Yeh as does NahamYAH's own name even just as NetanYAHU sets the precedence as EliYAHU and the other prophets do as His name is YAHU-AH. There is not one coherent scholarly example in this video in which he ever proves Ancient Hebrew ever had a V and the stretching he uses borders on fraudulent in any other profession. Let's call it what it is. Yah Bless.Support the show

The Covenant Stories EpisodeThe covenants are the DNA strand that ties the whole Book/God's Plan together. In a nutshell: God made man in "their" image. Man sinned. Relationship was broken between God and man with no way to live with God in His Kingdom.God makes Covenant with mankind to make a way for sin to be washed away and relationship restored to make a way to live forever in His Kingdom. If we are going to place our trust in God, then shouldn't we know who God is and what He is like? What He has done on our behalf? Who we are in Christ? And How we are to live in light of God's Covenant promises? The Making of a CovenantTravel back in time with me to the Ancient Hebrew way of thinkingThe story of the Bible is the story of the Hebrew wife of God and the Gentile Bride of Christ grafted into the Hebrews. The Abrahamic Covenant. Is it still relevant to us today? It began as a blood covenant with Abram. God called Himself “The God of Abraham” “The God of Isaac” and “The God of Jacob” and ultimately the God of Israel. Through Jesus, we can all have access to salvation, the Jew and the Gentile. The Abrahamic Covenant, made new, better translated as “re-newed” in the strongs ( a primate root; to be new, causatively to rebuild:-renew, repair) is now a better covenant through Jesus Christ.
