Solo Travel Adventures: Safe Travel for Women, Preparing for a Trip, Overcoming Fear, Travel Tips
Hi sister Travelers. Do you get excited just thinking about going on a trip or even just planning a trip? You have this excitement inside you, or maybe you come across some pictures on Instagram or you see some reels of some really amazing places and that gets you so excited. You wish you were there.Well, I'm gonna tell you. Go ahead and go there. Go there in your mind. Because there are actually some positive benefits to anticipating, dreaming, planning a trip, and I've encouraged you all along to, you know, get out there and do those adventures. Go on those trips. Don't waste any time. And, you know, planning a trip can actually, science has proven, that just the planning of a trip can increase your happiness. So who doesn't wanna be happy? Right? So go ahead and plan that trip and here's some science behind it. But anticipating, uh, or planning a trip can have far more benefits and impact, a positive impact on you mentally. There's a 2014 Cornell University study that proved this by demonstrating in their research that anticipating a trip or experience increased a person's happiness more than buying a material object. An experience, whether it's anticipated or actualized, produced higher levels of dopamine and extends a lifetime. You know, one can share and talk about it for the rest of their life, right? It's not just, oh, how long can you talk about? New iPhone you got, and maybe that person already has the same iPhone, so what does it matter? Right? But memories of a trip can be shared and talked about. And there's another study by the Institute of Applied Positive Research that said people found people to actually be happiest when they had a vacation or trip already planned. And there's this excitement, and let me share with you, I know this for a fact, and it happens to me every time I go on a trip. I am so happier you. As when I have a trip planned already and I have this anticipation, I, I have this something to look forward to, right? We see this kind of, this, uh, place that we're gonna go that's gonna make things better, maybe, or take us away from the stress and dread of our day-to-day life. It's just a whole thing for us, even just to get there, right? It's like you don't think it's gonna happen, but it's happening. And that's also the excitement of, you know, planning a trip and actually getting there. Anything could happen. And that's also the excitement, right, about the trip or the vacation that you're planning. So I encourage you because planning a trip and anticipating a trip has such positive on your brain and your mental state that go ahead and. , plan it out. Even if you don't buy the ticket yet, I want you to go and research where you wanna go, right? Plan out. Look at pictures on the internet and see your happiness increase.Facebook community: Solo Travel for Women Over 50Instagram @solotraveladventures50www.cherylbeckesch.comSend me a message or share your solo travel story with me.https://www.speakpipe.com/SoloTravelAdventuresLeave a review:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/solo-travel-adventures-safe-travel-for-women-preparing-for-a-trip-overcoming-fear-travel-tips/id1650161410

Lasting effects from the worst economic downturn in our lifetime are having a staggering effect on financial health. In fact, a recent survey from Frost Bank shows current financial health as a result of the pandemic is low, with two in five (40%) Americans citing their financial situation as fair or poor. In a time when much is out of our control, we can control our thoughts and actions which are proven to make a difference. Frost's research found that people who talk about their finances are 2x more likely to have better financial health. And, the people talking about money have something in common – optimism. Michelle Gielan had a dream job at CBS News—and quit. As an anchor of two national news programs, she was disturbed by the amount of negativity in the news. She didn't want a child walking through the room while she was doing her job, hearing her continually telling negative stories about the world. But her time at CBS News also showed her the incredible power we have to create positive change by broadcasting a worldview that is more empowered, optimistic, and solution-focused. Michelle left her job as a broadcaster at CBS News to study positive psychology—the science of happiness and human potential—under Dr. Martin Seligman (known as the founder of positive psychology) at the University of Pennsylvania Positive Psychology Center. Michelle's research shows how your optimistic, empowered mindset is the most valuable resource in creating happiness and forward progress. Today, she runs the Institute for Applied Positive Research, investigating how mindset fuels happiness and success at organizations including Google, Boston Children's Hospital, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and Pepsi Co.—and the results have been remarkable. Michelle has a regular series in Harvard Business Review on happiness at work and was named one of top 10 authors on resilience by HBR. She is the author of Broadcasting Happiness: The Science of Igniting and Sustaining Positive Change. Michelle has a B.S. in Computer Engineering from Tufts University and a Masters in Applied Positive Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania. Throughout the next six weeks, we'll be re-releasing 6 top shows that are the special favorites from our editor Matt Mawhinney and his awesome production team at PodAssist. “If you’re not feeling so positive and you go engage in a simple positive habit, and then you feel better, you’re reminding your brain that your behaviors matter.” - Michelle Gielan One of my favorite topics is how to speak bravely, and today’s Finding Brave guest is someone who can back up the importance of doing this with strong research. What she shares today reveals how our language shapes and influences our reality so much more than most of us understand. Michelle Gielan is the bestselling author of Broadcasting Happiness: The Science of Igniting and Sustaining Positive Change and was named one of the Top 10 authors on resilience by the Harvard Business Review. She is the founder of the Institute for Applied Positive Research. Michelle is also the Executive Producer of “The Happiness Advantage” on PBS and a featured professor in Oprah’s Happiness course. These days, when we open the news, all we see are the negative things happening around. We are exposed to these things every single minute that it becomes harder to find happiness. Will there be a way to look at these challenges in our lives that leaves us feeling empowered, ready to take action, and overcome them? Bestselling author and founder of the Institute for Applied Positive Research, Michelle Gielan, knows the answer. Through her book, Broadcasting Happiness, she talks about how we can continually transmit information that influences other people, highlighting the importance on our part to be a positive influence on others. Michelle also defines rational optimism while stating some great research on how we can harness the feel-good hormones in our body. Chris Majer, CEO of the Human Potential Project, shares the beauty of consistency and resilience to continue to persevere in life. When the world seems like a repetition of the same failures and disappointments, it takes that desire to start again that will eventually lead us to winning on top of finding our true potential. Chris gets down into the type of learning we should aim for with the understanding that competence is produced not in mere motivation alone, but in practice. He sheds some light into what we can learn from athletes as well as how we can carry ourselves throughout the entire process of being learners. Love the show?
